Nicknamed the 'death star', Roseisle is modern malt factory capable of producing any style of whisky, thus threatening smaller distilleries in the Diageo portfolio. Initially quite floral and biscuity, the nose leans towards orchard fruits, breakfast cereals and potato fritters. A bit odd, but not unpleasant. Orange zest, crisp apples and peppery spices lead the intense arrival, followed by honey, pears and resinous oak. It benefits from water. The slightly tropical finish sparkles with gooseberries, lime and marzipan. A good whisky - but far too expensive for what it is. RATING: 3.7/5.0 stars ≙ 85 pts → ABOVE AVERAGE [+]

https://whiskylovingpianist.wordpress.com/2025/11/01/whisky-show-2025-new-kids/ Can we still call [some of] these turn-of-the-century distilleries, the ‘new kids’ [on the Loch]? After all, Daftmill and Kilchoman, for example, are in their 21st year. Roseisle, whose whisky first appeared officially in 2023 [WLP], is in its 16th year. C: At natural cask strength as stated, the price point and [general Diageo] practices may be discouraging, but otherwise, very decent whisky as before [WLP86]. No surprise, given that consistency is at its heart.

Fruits, a sweet but not very fruity sherry; it's spicy, round The mouth is astonishing, with a sensation of roasting, well-dried malt, then white chocolate. A good dram that doesn't add anything special after the feeling of having entered a working distillery.

A nose that seemed very light to me but beautifully balanced, a little vegetal, angelica, parsley, and cereal, dried barley and oats. In the background, orchard fruits, green apples, white peaches, a zest of lemon. Some floral fragrances. On the palate, still very light, small white fruits with muesli, pastry cream, vanilla and almonds. The influence of the barrels is felt, pepper and cloves. Soft finish, rather woody and herbaceous, apples and apricots, soft caramel, licorice stick. A barely detectable bitterness. To be honest, it's good but very light, with little personality. Only the finish reveals a bit of character. https://ilikesky2020.blogspot.com/2025/03/roseisle-12-yo-special-release-2024.html

My second Roseisle, and the second one that convinces. I don't know why some tasters relate to it as "vague" or "not much to experience in it". To me, this whisky is modern and traditional at the same time. Roseisle is a modern plant, versatile in the styles it can produce. What they've done for the 2nd consecutive year, is make a classic Speyside profile whisky. It's fruity, creamy and lush, with a necessary balancing note of spice and mint. It's quite expressive instead of vague or not much to experience. My ratings are not taking the price into consideration. And about that: I agree with some other reviewers that the price of around € 130 is rather steep for a 12 year old cask strength whisky.
This year's edition of Roseisle is very average. The aroma is definitely a plus with vanilla, apple pie, lots of sweetness, unfortunately the taste turns it all the other way, because it is too spicy, too bitter. The finish slightly raises the note, because the spiciness and bitterness are moderate. The alcohol is completely imperceptible, which is also an advantage. Last year's version is more to my taste.

A fine dram that can use some water to really open up. It's a pleasant introduction to this new distillery that actually produces for Diageo's blends on a massive scale. I like that it's included in the Special Releases, and even more so no cask chicanery was applied (i.e. bourbon casks instead of red wine, rum, port, mezcal, dragon char stone-spun re-toasted casks, ..). Nevertheless, as is the case with (almost ?) all recent Special Releases, you can get better drams at this price level.

With water: I really experimented with water here for a long time, diluting the dram further and further. The first thing I noticed was that it didn't become cloudy, which, despite being cask strength, suggests chill filtration. That's a shame; a special release whisky doesn't deserve that. It becomes very lemony, and the buttery notes also intensify. The alcoholic kick can be tamed quite well with plenty of water. Conclusion: Especially with water, it reminds me a lot of Glenmorangie Astar, particularly with its citrus notes, but it doesn't quite reach that level. Otherwise, it's a well-structured whisky, and the first word that comes to mind is clean. The first-fill proportion was probably quite low. Basically, it's a spirit that can be used in many ways, especially for a variety of finishes. Ultimately, it's rather generic, and that's precisely why Diageo built the distillery – versatile without overwhelming anyone with too many flavors. Personally, I didn't find it particularly enjoyable.

The initial nose is restrained, but with a distinct alcoholic kick. Then some garden fruits emerge: apples, a touch of pear, cereal notes, a hint of vanilla, pickled ginger. The sweetness leans towards sugar or very light honey, with lemon zest, a subtle butteriness, and a few almond flakes. Even after some time, it remains restrained; the alcohol is still present, and the oak gradually becomes more noticeable. |

Vanilla, powdered white sugar, malt, yellow apples, spices (think black pepper/ginger), possibly pears. A good, but far from spectacular whisky. This is very similar to the last year's version. The only difference I see is, that here the vanilla is more dominant. In my opinion, if you already had the last year's version, you do not need the newer one.

Very fragrant, floral, perfumed, sweet and fruity aroma without a hint of alcohol astringency. The taste is honey and vanilla sweet, dense, slightly spicy and malty, pleasantly fruity with a hint of woody bitterness. The finish is quite short, significantly spicy and slightly bitter.
Roseisle 12 years, Diageo Special Release 2024, 55.6% alc. Aged in Bourbon barrels Nose: Wonderfully fruity with an intense spice and herb component. Ripe apples and pears, nectarines, some peach and vanilla. Plus mineral aromas of graphite and slate, then pepper, freshly grated ginger, malt beer and various kitchen herbs. Palate: The Roseisle is initially sweet and creamy, but then develops a lot of power. A colorful mixture of the already familiar flavors, but even spicier. Apples, dried apricots, honey, beeswax, green pepper, sage and fennel. Finish: Medium to long, fruity, then becomes drier and gets a pleasant bitterness. Conclusion: Okay Diageo, bravo, really great special release. And now please let's get a Roseisle Core Range at this level! 87/100 points (2024)

Maybe it pays to keep an open bottle and taste it again every so often. Output from a new distillery presumably Highland, and as stated first fill ex bourbon and bourbon refill casks. Creamy, spicy, floral. Long aftertaste with honey and fruit. 2024 iteration. 2025??? In my experience Diageo runs hot and cold. I think this one is hot. Retasted November 2025. Good finish, so good rating.
In its full strength this Roseisle has no evident drawback, although there is nothing special about it as well. But dilluted to 46-48% it transforms dramtically, revealing creamy and custard notes. My mark gets +2 extra points just because of that. Don't hesitate to play with water in your whisky.

Tasting this for my blog on www.whisky-odyssey.com which will be published 1 november 2024. I got a strange thought here, but this whisky gives me a feeling like ‘Diageo showing they can make a better Glenlivet than The Glenlivet’. It really reminds me of older bottlings of The Glenlivet 12 years old, the ones we love so much with the strong signature of peaches in it.

The aroma is fruity, fresh apples, pears, some citrus (lemon and lime) and dried bananas. Notes of black pepper, ginger and grassy bitterness are expressed. Vanilla and chocolate appear over time. The taste is quite sharp, at the beginning there is a powerful attack of black pepper and oak, then dark chocolate, ginger and green apples appear. The finish is medium length, with grassy bitterness. With a promising nose, it seemed too peppery on the palate, which spoiled the overall impression.
The introductory price of well over one hundred euros is a ludicrous example of the whisky bubble and Diageo's reckless audacity in 2024. It's madness to slap such a daring price tag on a rather average dram. Nevertheless, it's no wonder that the Origami Kite II can now be found for around 70 euros, and even on sale for around 50 euros. A price that finally seems justified. The dram offers a fruity nose, with notes of apple slices and Williams pear, the fruit purée blending seamlessly. On the palate, the alcohol makes a brief but intense impact, still reminiscent of an orchard, where the flavor from the well-chosen oak cask emerges. A good composition, a pleasing blend. The finish is medium to long and full-bodied. In its current price range, it's a solid dram; at the current sale price of around fifty euros, it's a good buy. Alternatively, Diageo's Singleton of Glen Ord 12 Year Old, with its lower alcohol content, is almost as good.
