Very well balanced and drinkable - it's so creamy that the high abv is really not noticable

2018 Talisker 10 against two pre classic malts bottles, brown & green, no back labels https://www.whiskybase.com/whiskies/whisky/68682/talisker-10-year-old#note-container https://www.whiskybase.com/whiskies/whisky/118057/talisker-10-year-old#note-container https://www.whiskybase.com/whiskies/whisky/15130/talisker-10-year-old#note-container I would describe the 2018 10 year as like a blended 10 year Talisker because the vatting of casks has ironed out all the rough edges but I liked the old rough edges. The 2018 is fine, nothing wrong with it and smells much richer than the older ones but it is less expressive on the palate but still high quality and the peat and pepper is still there. The old 1 litre brown bottle is a marked contrast to the 2018, it is lighter as the sherry is much less pronounced but it smells fresher, and definitely has more power with the peat and pepper taking centre stage. The green bottle the oldest is similar to the 1 litre brown bottle but appears too have a little more of everything, not much more just more peppery and a little more fruit but very well balanced. In summary the new 10 year 2018 is a nice whisky but it is too rounded , I suppose the extra sherry is to appeal to a wider audience, it is a dumbed down version of what the 10 year should be. The 1 litre pre classic malts is a different beast and has less sherry but more peat/pepper which I prefer, it is lighter and not as heavy going as the 2018. The green bottle is still the best but only by a whisker, it just has a little more of a kick, this is still the daddy in my view and the best of any Talisker 10 year. They are obviously smoothing out the new 10 year to appeal to a wider audience, and while I can happily drink it, the dumbing down has gone too far for me but the flavour profile is still a good one, but too much sherry for me but just having another sip there is healthy does of peat. 1 Green pre classic 2 Brown pre classic 3 2018 right now lets see how it compares to the 1985 27 year OB https://www.whiskybase.com/whiskies/whisky/44404/talisker-1985#note-container I think the 1985 is the best but it shares definite similarities with the older 10 year, perhaps a little unfair comparing a 27 year cask strength to the 10 years but it is only a little inform of the green bottle pre classic malts which for me is still the `Daddy`,
Note by Serge Valentin from whiskyfun.com: Talisker 27 yo 1985/2013 (56.10%, OB, Special Releases, 3000 bottles) One of the few Special Releases of 2013 that I hadn't tried yet. It was fully matured in refill American oak, which sounds pretty good to my ears. Colour: gold. Nose: this is a different story. It's not that it's a fully naked oldish Talisker, and there is a little vanilla, but the whole is, well, pretty magnificent. I find rather more passion fruits and mangos than in other old ones, but the briny side is big. Salted warm croissants? And shoe polish, quince jelly, seashells (you know we love whelks at WF Towers), soot, a drop of olive oil, our beloved gentians... All pretty perfect so far. With water: more perfect. Salted almonds and deluxe shoe polish. Brown. Ha! Mouth (neat): perfekkt. Huge, massive and yet elegant and immediately pleasing. It's strong and yet it goes down a treat, as they say, which may be dangerous. Oily mouth feel, some touches of gingery oak (but those remain very discreet), orange zests, mangos, lemon juice, a little pepper, oysters, brine, tar and Chinese sweet and sour sauce (the one for dim-sums, I've seen it's called gwoo low jup in Cantonese and tang cu zhi in Mandarin). Phew. With water: becomes zesty, lemony, chiselled, rieslingesque. And more oysters. Finish: long, this time more on grapefruits, which is normal. Grapefruits often appears in the finishes in my experience, and bring a welcome freshness. Also green apples, while the trademark pepper remains, say very civilised. Comments: grand whisky, as expected. There's some youth in this oldie.SGP:566 - 92 points.

Magnificent Talisker with big fruits and a lot of extract.
Sea, cold smoke, a little vanilla... But the taste is simply bomb - oysters, lemon, pepper, fatty, oily. The finish is long, deep, sharp. 22.5-23.5-23-23

What's not to love? About as good as you can hope for. Balanced, rich, complex and most of all, just damn tasty.
An excellent release of this fine whisky. I really want to repeat it. It's a Moscow winter evening outside, and my glass makes me feel like I'm lying on the sand under a palm tree somewhere on a tropical island.

Young in sensation, but very powerful molt, not too diverse in derivatives, but the pressure and density compensate for everything, and in the development, again, powerfully adds sweetness and creamy notes.
Very smooth vanilla, a touch of spice and smoke. Mist of white fruits, plums and grapes. Vanilla flan, cinnamon and orange blossom. Traces of very fresh iodine, very gentle salty sea breeze. Behind, something acrid, wild, heather, tree bark, pine cone, nutmeg, saffron. Quince Jelly. Sponge cake, icing sugar. Wildflower honey. Candied ginger, a little spicy. Baked apples. Concentrated mouthfeel of honey, limoncello, yellow plums. The spices are quite strong, black pepper, mustard, cloves, with holly, bay leaf. Dark chocolate and fresh earth, dried mushrooms. Raisin cake. Very long finish, where vanilla and white fruits return, rustling on the tongue, dried fig and ginger. Not too ripe apricot, green apple. Slight increase in acidity. A Talisker a little more fruity and acidic than the 25 year old Cask Strength. https://ilikesky2020.blogspot.com/2021/03/talisker-1985-maritime-edition-27-yo.html

Slightly more austere than fruity, but there are days that call for austerity I guess. With that said, the oakiness at the end... minus one. So 92 points total.

+ H2O initially a hint of sour oak, mild smoke, trace herbaceous. A while later: aromatic smoke, a little sweet and a little spicy. Here, too, a trace of tart fruit notes, wood / oak, some ash, lemon, a maritime idea, seems a bit concentrated. Develops further in the glass, now also a hint of vanilla, clove and apple must, a hint of burned-out match. Demanding and takes time. 90-91 |

Soft and sweet at first, then buttery and rich, dark chocolate. The nose shows raspberry juice and a familiar hint of smoke. On the palate chocolate biscuits, berry chutney, ripe apples. The addition of water results in more sweet smoke and mystical volcanic vapors. Cool, salty and sweet on the finish. Medium-bodied body. Malty with fine smelling smoke.

Overall, a delightfully tame and mature Talisker with just a hint of the peppery profile I typically associate with the distillery. Soft maritime notes appeared in abundance, and, though I enjoyed the contrast between the initial hit of sweet fruits and slightly bitter finish, I found that transition also left the dram feeling less cohesive at times. However, those were quibbles, and this would make for a fine celebratory bottle. Mental Image: Halocline Themed Pipe Shop
a hint of smoke, salty pepper with a hint of chili, a fine seabreeze, some seaweed, herbs, oaky, fine sweetness kicks in later, some salty raspberries with some drops of honey. the finish is just marvelous long lasting. that is another old Talisker I really loved to taste! What a malt! (WSZ17)

Colour: Full gold Nose: Discreet pepper, peat, leather, lemon, vanilla and burning hot with white chocolate and a very gentle spice. Add to that the finest lime juice, some honey, bourbon vanilla and a metallic character of tinplate tin - that fits! Taste: Spicy, spicy and yet harmonious on the palate; with soft herbs, lots of pepper, white chocolate, cream, milk foam and green apple. The creamy note is very pronounced here and the salt content remains stable and whirls constantly on the tongue. Leather notes, a bit wet earth and more than just the right wood effect - just super delicious !! Finish: Long - the spice is retained here and the slightly dry wood notes combine perfectly with the peppery spice. The fruity apple sweetness completes the enjoyment. Add some peat, wet straw and pickled, soft herbs - also topp! 93 points N: 92P / G: 94P / F: 93P

an old Taliskermen who appears as a stepbrother, clearly made by the sea, but a lot of dry dark dark chocolate, a very successful composition, the background of summer + herbs like, as well as the beautiful berries, with a little more patience I could taste camphor + currants so it remained a hunch

I'd say this is the best Talisker I've tasted so far. I put it on today to compare with Talisker 30 Yo and Maritime came out victorious. Perfect full interesting and marine... Wow... Maybe this is how I would imagine a 30 year old CELP.
A horny whisky from a great distillery, which unfortunately has been destroying its very good reputation with bad bottlings for years. This bottling, however, shows Talisker at its best.

Amazing whisky with beautiful layers and complexity! Easy to appreciate with flavours coming back in different waves.
Oh baby. After my first 2 sniffs of this, I let out a loud “oh yeah!”. Loads of character throughout. The nose especially is just awesome. I think I would have liked the experience on the palate and finish to be even more intense than they were, but the whisky certainly didn’t slouch there in terms of character and complexity. Nice oily texture too. It really takes me back to my time on the Isle of Mull, actually, with the crashing waves, tide pools, and misty cliffside forests. Sublime. Nose: Simultaneously soft and intense. The first thing to jump out was some nose-prickling salt, then green apples. Next comes wax, leather, green tea, very soft peat, bonito flakes, and subtle seaweed. Old dry wood, and solventy notes. Acrylic paint? There’s a certain juiciness to the fruit as well, maybe from the salt. Lemon, pineapple, pear, grapefruit, passionfruit, and watermelon (candies). There’s pickled ginger, even sweet pickled onions. Some sweeter notes of honey, milk chocolate, vanilla, maple syrup, and caramel are there too. With more time it got even juicier and chocolatier. Palate: Medium, oily. Fruit, and wax. Quite astringent up front. Then comes a big hit of peppery peat smoke, intermixed with honey. It develops to leather, oceanside rocks, rich nuts, and loads of foresty earthy notes. Wow, after just letting it sit for another ten minutes, there’s now this fragrant tropical note: coconut and candied ginger. Macadamia nuts? Now I’m getting that hand cream note like I did in that Longrow. Apple skins and cinnamon. Lots of oaky and mineral notes, with a minty and almost juniper-y tail end. Finish: Long, but lightening up. Lingering smoke, coming back to fruit, honey, and wax. There’s some bracingly tart citrus here, mixed with mineral notes and more earth. Some richer astringent notes of dark chocolate and espresso. Mist-filled coastal forest. Slate and tide pools. A tingle of black pepper. Lasting wax and pineapple. Juniper. Salted peanuts.
A wonderful interplay of perfume and ocean scents.

In the nose a very typical Talisker, which develops on the palate an unusually good smokiness. Positive surprise with several phases.
Great mouthfeel, very complex - a true gem and the last incredibly sublime Talisker to come out for less than four figures retail.
Peat smoke, seaweed, moss, iodine: mineral. With aeration it rounds and vanilla appears. Powerful attack, pleasant texture, liquorice, the mid-palate is a smoke explosion that dominates notes of melted fruit. The fairly long finish leaves a slight veil of smoke and the typical Talisker pepper that pecks the tip of the tongue. A dram that requires time but the water does not bring anything, the alcohol is very well integrated, very good.
A great malt, very complex. Personally a bit too round, but still great.

It is hard to beat old Talisker and the Maritime edition 1985 is a good reason why. It has the salt and iodine that one would expect to find in any Talisker and presents a powerful and well balanced palette of spicy, peppery, honey spread on top of slightly bitter dark chocolate. There's a little something herbal going on there too. Mouthfeel is quite thick. The finish lingers like a long and slow burning coal.
