Quick hit review. Whisky calendar - Day 9. I've been wanting to try this Roseisle for some time, and now I have tasted it blind, which is even better. On the nose, lime juice, pineapple cubes and herbal teas make an appearance. It is a bit austere, but water unlocks sweeter notes. Kiwi fruit, lemons and red apples unfold on the palate before resinous oak, pepper and pink grapefruit kick in. The slightly bitter aftertaste is lingering with gummy bears, tannins and a touch of IPA. I think this is a very competent Speysider, but the price tag is downright ridiculous! https://whiskylovingpianist.wordpress.com/2023/10/29/whisky-show-2023-new-kids-on-the-loch-part-1-2/ C: There are many factors at play here, not least of all, that this ‘Special Release’ is the first from Diageo’s multi-million-pound experimentation earthship,… and then there’s the price. This £120 inaugural Roseisle is excellent as a standalone single malt if somehow unremarkable in context when you consider Diageo’s available resources and what else is on offer from every which way from even their humblest competitors. Put it this way, I’ll take either of those Indri bottles any day of the week [WLP] – the Trini [three wood] at around just £40.
N: Smoutebollen and vanilla, followed by some lime or yuzu, apple pie with icing sugar. Surprisingly fresh and inviting. I am very pleasantly surprised. S: The taste is nicely in line with the nose, but becomes slightly darker, if you know what I mean. Baked apples and candied peach with a hint of mint. F: Nice, long aftertaste that becomes very fruity. C: This is Speyside through and through. Summer in the glass. Recommended!

It's a perfectly decent whisky, though not one that I would personally crave a second glass of.

I have to admit. For 12 years old ex-bourbon and no smoke, you get almost the maximum here. Nicely balanced whisky between sweetness, freshness and spice, without being exciting. I look forward to older bottlings.
First of all: I have decided to initially only taste the Roseisle from the 2023 Special Releases, as I am quite interested in this probably rare opportunity to visit the distillery. So why not others? The prices of the series have risen to sometimes absurd levels in recent years, while in my opinion the quality has steadily declined. Now to Roseisle: As I subconsciously expected, it's a solid ex-bourbon maturation (by no means bad), but it doesn't offer anything particularly special, and you can easily get something with similar flavor for half the price. Therefore, I'll refrain from giving it any tasting notes. Unfortunately, this aligns with my impression of the special releases of recent years: mostly solid malts at exorbitant prices. What makes these bottlings special is primarily their high price.

The thing is completely crazy in the nose! A very extreme sniffing whisky. Interestingly, despite this immense restlessness, which it inevitably is, he doesn't seem out of balance, just incredibly complex. Unfortunately, he cannot keep this promise in his mouth; he would have to be thirty years older. Nevertheless, the malt is in no way a disappointment, there are no obvious weaknesses, overall it's a nice debut for a distillery from which single malts probably won't appear that often.

Immediately after pouring, yellow fruit is buried under a mountain of lemon zest, some bergamot, slowly adding sweet malty notes, but also a hint of multivitamin juice. Later, creamy pudding notes, served in a granite bowl. A lot happens there and you don't want to put it down again. Now honey, leather and fallen fruit, all in the damp cellar. then iodine and caramel. Now it's getting really dark and sweet. Time to breathe. After a lot of standing time, there is initially a note of slightly fermented or intentionally pickled mangoes that dominates everything. I can't remember ever recognizing mango aromas so clearly, not just associations. However, this only lasts for a few seconds before the fruit flavors diversify. Pears, lychees, peaches, lots of vanilla and a little honey. The mineral hints also rematerialize, while the fruit notes now become significantly darker again, peach compote, yellow fruit jelly, then the fruits disappear completely again and maritime notes take over the field. A little later the circle closes again with a splash of lemon and everything repeats itself. When warmed up, the versatility continues unabated, now for the first time I also have green fruits and floral notes, but also significantly more malt sugar. Now the alcohol starts to sting the nose and the bouquet becomes increasingly flat. With a lot of glass movement it becomes extremely zesty again. |

In the mouth there are initially no noticeable fruity notes, but a lot of honey and malty notes, almost acid-free. The mouthfeel is dense and oily, the alcohol sets in gently but relentlessly with a slight delay, a good portion of white pepper heralds the first appearance of some barrel acid and a few oak tones towards the end. Some mint. In the second sip, fruit acid is at least noticeable, but when it comes to this fruity variety from the nose, the malt can't keep up. Unfortunately the whole thing seems rather one-dimensional, not bad, but not even a shadow of what the nose had to offer. |

The finish begins with a moderate barrel emphasis and is essentially a medium-long fade that leaves the mouth somewhat stale. The chest area becomes noticeably warmer. The second sip is similar with the addition of a good portion of malt sugar. |

A solid debut. Modern and clean to the point of being constructed, which was to be expected from Diageo. But I'm glad that they stuck with "normal" bourbon barrels and saved themselves any other "special" gimmicks. For the full review, click here: https://keinehalbendrinks.de/2024/11/08/newcomer-e/

A strong and rich whisky of classic bourbon profile, quite a wide palette of derivatives and good depth for 12 years of aging, a sweet-woody core is neatly framed by leather, tobacco and light mineral-industrial shades with final light notes of ash and smoke in the background. Overall, it makes a very pleasant impression, in style it resembles Brooklady from the Islay Barley series or Bear Barley with the addition of candy notes.
It starts with a pleasant bourbon aroma, but then becomes extremely sugary and harsh at the same time. After that, there's not much more to it. Quick assessment: It's certainly worth trying once, but I don't need to have it again after this sample.

This is as far as I know the only single malt from Roseisle that was released, so it's very special. This distillery is quite multifaceted, as it is able to distill various styles of spirit. This whisky seems to be a medium robust spirit, maybe with high cut points as it is quite fresh, fruity and flowery on the nose. It has substantial weight though, giving an oily texture. The wood has done its work, to add a creamy side, along with warming spice. It's quite an allround whisky which is quite complex for a 12-year old. I would not mind to have this in my cabinet at all!

The nose is fruity, flowery and nutty/creamy. Fruit: kiwi, green apple, gooseberry. In other words: the rather sour fruit but with a sense of sweetness to it too. Flowery: a high estery note of rose and orange blossom Nutty/creamy/woody: coconut and vanilla, wood staves. Apart from that, there is honeyed cereal and a hint of grass. All in all a distinct profile, a bit lowland style but it's very pleasant. |

Viscous and oily, and very friendly. There is good balance between what is sweet associated (honey-drizzled cereal, vanilla custard, coconut, white chocolate) and the sour-indicating fruits like again kiwi and gooseberry, yet accompanied by white raisin (which is again on the "sweeter" side). Grass pops up slowly, just as some spice from the wood, like cinnamon, coriander seeds and a bit of ginger (as in ginger bread). |

A good whisky with a cool vanilla and fruit-dominant aroma, but the sneaking notes of unripe alcohols in the taste and the same unripe aftertaste do not allow us to talk about this whisky as a full-fledged 12-year-old release. Also, I really missed the barrel. 21.5 21 20.5 20.5

When it comes to new Diageo bottlings, I've been trying to approach them with as few expectations as possible lately, to avoid disappointment and also to try not to let the price of the bottle influence the taste experience. Admittedly, I don't always succeed. Here, with the first Roseisle, I was really positively surprised and I really welcome the decision to demonstrate a cask strength bottling from this large distillery. The nose is simple at first glance, but also full and balanced. I really enjoy it on the palate too. The alcohol comes through a little more here, but that's not a problem at all, as it tolerates water features very well and even benefits from them. Personally, I think the price per bottle is a bit too high for what is on offer, so I won't be buying a large bottle, but I will be excited to try other Roseisle bottlings if they come out.

EYE/NOSE Rich gold tone. Initially very malty, with light honey. This is followed by lemon cream, warm almond pudding and an increasingly intense scent of vanilla pulp. Not really spectacular, but quite pleasant nose. A successful start. PALATE Pleasantly creamy, despite the comparatively high alcohol content. The lemon cream from the nose is present again here. I also find the almondiness, now paired with oak spice, as well as the honey. Caramel and cocoa are also added, while the malty aromas from the nose fade into the background. I make a note of a little spiciness, ginger and white pepper. Bright grapes add some fruity elements to the flavor profile. Good harmony and balance between the individual components. FINISH/CONCLUSION No missing notes, pleasantly warm, medium-long finish, largely characterized by vanilla sweetness. Towards the end, nutty notes that bring a little bitterness, but are never unpleasant. More notes and reviews on Facebook: #Maltkanzlei

Halftime Snacks Light and fruity with summery citrusy sangria and freshly mowed grass— or was it iced orange and tangerine slices at a youth soccer game? Perhaps somewhere in-between with a gentle, sweet citrus, fresh pine, zinc sun screen, and dandelions alongside mellow earth. Medium-bodied with a bright and vibrant fruitiness alongside green grass and a touch of earth. Orange slices and lemonade paired with tangerine shortbread cookies and juice boxes. Freshly mowed grass, clovers, and peppery dandelion developed toward the end with mellow hints of earth, honey, and vanilla bean. The finish was medium to long with citrusy sangria and mellow dried grass. Overall, a beautiful introduction to Roseisle and something that felt made for the summer heat or to be splashed on the rocks or in a high ball. It was not the most complex beast, but it was well-balanced and enjoyable.
Chance of 87 points. However, too many peppers in the aftertaste, which throws the whole thing out of balance.
Well done for an unofficial inaugural release, not highly complex but intense Speyside aroma. Roseisle can produce many types of brand, I would call this one “Hardcore Speyside”. My price: 70€, would be ok for a 12 year old.

It seems to have extracted various layers very well during the 12-year maturation period. It is expected that the distillery, in which Diageo has invested heavily, will release a variety of products, including 15-year and 18-year-old products. (I hope that at least one CS is included in the regular lineup instead of going with SR.) If it ages a little more and becomes softer and the layers become deeper, I expect that both the aroma and taste will show great results.

Quite a strong buzz. At around 55%, it doesn't feel soft/strong, but just about the same. - A vanilla scent that hits you intuitively. It gives a bourbon-like nuance. - It has quite a floral scent, but it feels heavy rather than bright. A heavy yet sweet feeling mixed with bitterness like chestnut honey. - Complex flavor of fruits with large seeds in the center, such as apricots and canned cherries. - Bitter citrus of the lemon peel type - Grassy scent of rye whisky. There is also a bit of mint mixed in. - Wow, a sweet synthetic fruity scent like bubble gum. It reminds me of various tropical fruits such as pineapple, lychee, and the flesh of durian. - A savory grain scent reminiscent of white bread. There is a lot in the base, but it seems to be overpowered by other scents. - A little cinnamon-like spice sprinkled on a latte. Cinnamon comes up softly. : N Summary - Colorful layers for 12 years and above. In addition to the striking feeling that comes from the frequency, it is quite well constructed and is enjoyable to try. |

In the end, it tastes like unripe bananas and canned peaches that have lost their sweetness in the mouth. - The nutty and bitter taste of dark chocolate. : F Summary - Moderately soft and pleasant finish. Not bad, but the first impression is kind of faceless and standard. Spices, pears, cut grass, hay, some honey and nuts, vanilla, lots of oak, some wax. The taste becomes a little more interesting, but there are too many spices here. The strength is felt. It seems that there is still a little smoke somewhere far away. In the finish there is a hint of bitterness and wet rags.
I honestly didn't know what to expect from this whisky, I don't know it. But the fact that it is matured purely in bourbon barrels is quite a big plus because I prefer this type of whisky... This distillate suited me 100 percent, there were no surprises or extremes. It's a great whisky and that's it. Alcohol well integrated, easy to drink. Well done! Update! After tasting it again, I can only confirm what was described above, except that this time it seemed a bit pungent - alcoholic...

If you wanted to include a ‘classic’ bourbon-cask Speyside profile in a flight of drams, you wouldn’t need to look past this! Very fresh and creamy nose, with plenty of vanilla, barley, green fruits and a whiff of well-integrated oak. Opens up nicely with a small drop of water. Creamy and peppery on the palate, with fruity notes (apple and lemon) lingering in the background. Relatively short, oaky finish, that drifts towards bitterness but then pulls back to a nice barley note at the last minute. Bodes very well for future releases from Roseisle.

I think it's a superb first bottling for Roseisle; it's a delightful, light, balanced whisky with several interesting aromas. It's almost like a "constructed" whisky; each layer is distinctly distinct, but the transitions don't create a parasitic heterogeneity. The RRP, like all Special Releases, is challenging; I find the €70-€100 range more suitable for this bottle. Price performance: Medium Would I buy again?: Yes, at the right price.

Rotting Maltese plums and apricots. A slight scent of sweat. Licorice. Light almond, light vanilla. Light green apple. Light raw alcohol, not enough to be disturbing. A very light toffee. Vanilla cake. Maybe red apple. Light fennel seeds. Tobacco cologne. Light brown sugar. Grass and florality. When diluted a little, the nose turned into a patisserie. Rice pudding. Tasty but doesn't meet expectations; it gets too thin with water. |

A very enjoyable, very variable, impressive finish with distinct layers. First, light spices, fennel seeds, and cinnamon. Light white flowers follow, followed by green apple and coriander seeds, and finally, a generous maltiness; brioche and loaf bread, perhaps lightly toasted toast. The transitions between phases are rapid; the finish is medium-long. Medium intensity. Very enjoyable! |
A characterful and interesting dram with a warm, slightly funky profile and good texture, though it lacks a bit of deeper complexity and evolution. Overall impression: Warm spiced, gently funky fruit character with a mellow, slightly engineered but still enjoyable bourbon-cask profile. Distinctive enough to stand out, but not fully layered. Nose: * Musty dunnage / warehouse funk * Overripe / slightly rotting apples and pears * Vanilla, honey, light caramel * Soft, mellow spice Palate: * Sweet malt, vanilla cream, honey * Ripe orchard fruit (apple, peach, citrus peel) * Light white pepper and gentle oak spice * Biscuit dough texture Finish: * Medium to long * Vanilla oak and soft spice * Slight nuttiness * Clean, slightly dry cereal fade Key takeaway: Distinctive nose with a funky, slightly musty fruit edge; palate is sweet and creamy with gentle spice and orchard fruit; finish is clean and steady but not particularly complex or evolving.

Roseisle Aged 12 Years Special Release 2023, SSMSW, 56.5%. 30ml sample from The Sample Guys and consumed at home December 2023. Dark golden orange. Just a hint too dark for me to trust the colour, and it’s a Diageo product after all. Aroma is soft, not spiky at all, musty oak, some light apple fruitiness. A very light and clean aroma. Not exciting, but nothing wrong with it. Body is lightly oily but with a cutting ethanol dryness too. Taste is lime peel, a surprisingly clear lime note, some creamy oak, faintest coffee, almost milky but off-set with rock salt spikiness. Where the aroma lacked interest, the flavour makes up for it. Not a cohesive flavour – there’s the lime and the salt and then there’s the coffee and the creamy oak and you feel like you’re being hit from two clear and opposing angles, and there’s some structure in that. Interesting, yes, but doesn’t quite work for me. Bright spirit and the chocolatey note of the casks. Contrasting, sort-of working but not quite enough. On the finish there’s a very exciting goat cheese note, a flavour that pops up in some of my favourite whiskies, but quite light here. I find this really interesting, but I don’t love it. 3.475/83 With a drop of mineral water and a wait. The musty refill oak shows up more on the aroma. Taste is cleaner, easier, far less intense, less abrasive but also less characterful. A cardamom note shows up that wasn’t there before, maybe a little fennel seed. Very easy and clean now at around 50%, with a nice ethereal complexity. This spirit would be beautiful in a blend. As soon as I tried it at a lower ABV, this whisky evoked JW Red, which is a very under-rated whisky in my opinion. If the whisky coming out of Roseisle is all like this, I think JW blends are going to be very solid going forward.
Highly acidic candy, lemon and honey, western pear, ginger, suitably bitter texture, simple and no big feature
The first shot from Roseisle turns out to be a really beautiful whisky with lots of fruit and strength. There is a good balance between the distillate and the fresh bourbon casks, and the cask strength highlights the secondary flavor notes, of which there is fortunately some. I look forward to seeing if there is another Roseisle among the Special Releases 2024.

Fruity sweetness fills the mouth and slowly transitions into more bitter notes of malt and grain. The alcohol tingles the tongue and gives a good warmth deep down in the body. A wonderful combination of salt, sweetness and bitterness gathers around the finish, which lasts a very long time. |

Very well crafted, as if not to leave any negative impressions. Complexity suffers a bit, but pleasant through and through. Not very impressive as a malt, but an impressive product.
Sniff: Very malty fresh to begin with. Looking at the tube the bottle comes in, I notice they did not add “Speyside” to the words “Single Malt Scotch Whisky”. Vanilla rules supreme, no denying that. Underneath it there are some fruity notes, mostly yellow, like banana, but also some citrus elements. And then back to vanilla. Sip: There we go, our first ever sip of Roseisle. They really put much effort into creating balance. There is not an off-note to be found. The vanilla-infused wood notes are very attractive, but there is more when spicy herbs rise from the background. Black pepper, a hint of chocolate, but also sweetness. The addition of water brings out more tropical fruits. Swallow: Gentle and smooth, with good length, and enough kick from the high alcohol to make an impression. The abv never gets in the way in the form of hot notes. I do not recommend water for this. Excellent integration of all elements. Maybe slightly too much bitterness from the first-fill casks. It is extremely well put together whisky, and fits well into the region. Speyside or not? It is not exactly the brutality of close neighbor Benromach. If you ask me, this sits well with the better expressions of Miltonduff and Glenburgie. So, yes, an addition to the Speyside domain. Maybe this Roseisle is just a tad too one dimensional but I do applaud the initiative to bring out a ‘naked’ version first, before seducing us whisky geeks with a dark sherried expression. I am sure this supple but oily spirit can stand more extreme casks. Look forward to that.

Liquid honey overload! Spice and dryness, peppery, somewhat oily and waxy mouthfeel. Hint of artificial gum, leather, earthy notes, caramel. Complex and fantastic, both on the nose and in the taste. Mixed experience with other Diageo SR, this however is a prime example of seriously good stuff!

It has something, even if it still seems a bit underdeveloped. Grassy notes, green tea, apple, peppery notes, and spicy ginger. On the palate, it shifts from sweet to spicy. To me, it seems much younger than it is. It doesn't really convince me. 84/100 or 5/10

20cl bottle, I wish more distilleries sold bottles of this size (thanks Diageo). Very well integrated alcohol, nice example to start understanding what type of distillate they make. Light (not in a bad way), floral, fresh wood, some orange, white grapes, a touch of vanilla and an almost efervescent feeling (champagne like). Relaxed and silky.

Relatively crazy on the nose, but nothing that would seem to throw him off balance. I would have hoped for a little more vanilla and honey even without water. The overall fruity melange is still convincing. However, this dram is in no way a disappointment - with no noticeable weaknesses. All in all, satisfaction is achieved - with the exception of the ambitious price (some points deducted).

With the Roseisle 12 SE 2023, a malt enters the stage that many whisky enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting in recent years: a 12-year-old single malt from a relatively young distillery, free of historical baggage, but with a clear, modern style. The question for me was: Can such an "unknown" malt, at the mature age of 12 years, impress – and above all: can it hold its own in direct comparison with established Speyside whiskies?

Initially soft, delicately fruity, and inviting. Green apple and pear dominate, accompanied by vanilla caramel and a light honey note. A hint of citrus zest and candied orange emerges in the background. No heavy sherry notes, but rather clear, fresh fruit. Slightly herbal nuances and a touch of malt round out the profile. Overall, very approachable, clear, and inviting – without any harsh edges. |

The initial taste is soft and rounded, with sweet malt, vanilla, and a hint of blossom honey. The fruitiness continues: yellow apple, pear, and delicate pineapple notes give the malt juiciness and lightness. A light touch of pepper and a subtle spiciness add a touch of excitement without being overpowering. No dramtic peat, no dominant sherry influence – just a classic light-to-medium-bodied Speyside character. |

Medium-long, smooth, slightly sweet with fruity accents and a hint of vanilla caramel. The spice remains subtle, with a touch of citrus zest lingering into the finish. Not a monumental finish, but pleasant and harmonious with the overall development. Conclusion: If Springbank is the punk or hard rock representative of distilleries – raw, artisanal, steeped in tradition, and with rough edges – then Roseisle is more the pop artist. Here, modern production, precision, and consistency take center stage, rather than romanticized craftsmanship. This doesn't always make it easy to generate great enthusiasm in specialist circles. But one has to acknowledge: Roseisle fulfills exactly the role of a good pop artist. Catchy melodies, cleanly produced, accessible, harmonious – perhaps not compositions for the ages, but undoubtedly entertaining fun of a high standard. With Roseisle 14 SR 2025, which was published two years later. However, the distillery has impressively demonstrated the potential of its distillate. It clearly shows that an excellent Scotch whisky can be produced despite industrial mass production. In direct comparison, the 12-year-old's work seems somewhat less profound and ambitious. Nevertheless, it remains a very successful debut – clean, coherent, and stylistically clearly positioned. |

Really impressive debut from Roseisle. Super duper fruity, apples pears peaches, vanilla, soft oak, a hint of minerality. Solid buttery mouthfeel, everything is in perfect balance, a little nutty, and gets a little spicy towards end of a gentle medium finish. Banger of a whisky, if only it was half its price…..

Aroma: sweet base note, ripe pineapple, alcohol perfectly integrated, cotton candy at a fair, cherry, vanilla in the base, overall more on the yellow fruit side, beautifully balanced... Taste: English orange marmalade, woody spice, alcohol very well integrated, licorice, peppery, malty, medium finish, again with a spicy undertone. Color: Straw-colored, medium waterline, clear Conclusion: In summary, as is almost to be expected with such a Diageo project, a perfectly styled whisky that nevertheless doesn't bore – and the lack of "rough edges" combined with the cask strength offered delivers exactly what I sometimes like to pour myself: Not intellectual, not mundane, but still delicious...
I didn't expect much from this release, but I liked it. It's probably not the kind of whisky I'll buy a bottle of, but I'm happy to drink a sample. The nose is vanilla-perfumed. Shortbread cookies, butter, oatmeal, goat cheese with honey and walnuts. Very drinkable. In general, it is a standard of safe, tasty scotch. By the way, very similar to a more bourbon Arran 10 to me. But I will take one point off for the price.
