Насыщенный современный олоросо: тёмные фрукты, шоколад, кожа, пряности. Единодушный восторг — эталон хересного стиля в лучшем возрасте для Glendronach; смущают лишь жар от крепости и лёгкая дубовость.

В аромате тёмная махагоновая масса благородного сухого олоросо: изюм, инжир, финики, чернослив, тёмная вишня, шоколад и эспрессо, поверх — старая кожа, рождественский кекс, коричневый сахар и мягкая дубовая пряность (ваниль, корица, гвоздика, мускатный орех). Вкус плотный, маслянистый, «жевательный»: сухость олоросо, тёмный шоколад высокого содержания какао, кофе, сушёные фрукты, солоноватость и постепенно нарастающие пряности — перец, имбирь, гвоздика. Послевкусие долгое, сухое, ореховое, с горчинкой какао и улуна, кожей и эспрессо, что почти никого не отталкивает. Опытные ревьюеры сходятся: херес мощный, но малт и дуб пробиваются и создают равновесие без изъянов, а образец раскрывается после «жевания»; это выгодно отличает виски от куда более дорогих старых релизов и попадает в лучший возрастной диапазон Glendronach (18–24 года). Расхождения незначительны и не по качеству, а по нюансам: кого-то смущает жар высокой крепости и лёгкая избыточная дубовость, кто-то советует добавить воду (раскрывает солодовость), тогда как другие предпочитают неразбавленным; один отметил, что бочка №35 сильнее. Оценки очень согласованы — почти все в диапазоне 89–95, с единичным пиком, что подтверждает репутацию эталона современного хересного стиля.

Nice nose, dark fruits, obviously plenty of sherry but it is not overpowering and plenty of pastries and various cakes. Slightly hot but in a good way as it adds to the experience, creamy sherry , a decent amount of peat, bucket loads of dark forest fruits and rich fruit cake. This has great balance, nothing takes the lead flavour wise and nothing takes a back seat everything in harmony. At this age Glendronach is far better than some of those 40 year offering at 2k price tags, and reinforces my belief that Glendronachs sweet spot is 18 -24 years old Tasted with a few drops of water.

[June, 2020] Glendronach floods the market with single cask releases since years so it is worthless to catch up on all of them but this one seems to be excellent... ...and it is a nice modern (dry) oloroso sherry cask maturation without any flaws. The sherry is bold but both the malt and the wood can manage to create a balanced profile (after some chewing). There are a lot of interesting and delicious aromas and flavours to explore in this dram, and it is a pure pleasure to sip - finally.

Нос	92	The colour is very dark at mahogany and the nose offers a lush modern oloroso sherry profile without flaws or off-notes. The malt struggles hard to shine through this massive wall of winey aromas but it manages it, finally. The woods are firm but appropriate in this setting. I like the old leathery note which grows stronger upon breathing.
Вкус	92	The taste is nicely layered and greatly chewable, a real stunner. It offers all the adorable oloroso-induced flavours in a perfect wooden framing. The malt-driven flavours require some chewing to be unlocked but it works very well after that. Beside these there are delicious impressions of coffee beans, dark chocolates (or cocoa beans), fruits of all kinds and again leathery notes. Later the spices enter the spotlights with many different impressions (from vanilla to cinnamon to peppers and ginger). While the taste is very sherry-driven first it balances out after some chewing which is great. The wood again is perfect in this setting - significant but never dominating.
Финиш	91	The initial mouthfeel is quite hot first which quickly turns into a warming and coating effect. The wood and the sherry add a minor dryness which is not distracting. The finish is long and adds more chocolatey, earthy and bitter tea-ish/herbal impressions both from the sherry and the woods. Water releases more malty aromas in the nose and on the palate so it is worth a try - but finally I prefer the neat dram.

N- Would wonder who would not like this highly affluent elixir of well integrated rich creamy chocolate, mashed raisin, fig and demarara, up against hot rubbers phenol notes undertones for the width, with plums and peaches fruit lurking on. P- Firm grips of sherry dryness. Melting demarara with pinch of wonderful saltiness and fresh plums that heightened the flavours to optimum pleasures. Buttery citrus, full, rich, juicy, utterly good and entertaining. F- Medium-long, superbly solid with finesse. Spicy and a little fiery, but in a good manner, with an upmost pleasures of chewiness mouthfeel. Superb single cask release at a bargain price. — at The Whisky Bar, Kuala Lumpur.

Doing a GlenDronach 1993 head to head - Cask 40 vs 42. Official tasting notes: Appearance: Rich red wood. Nose - Sweet dates and ripe figs, balanced with crisp herbal notes. Milk chocolate rolls through the robust sherry character. Palate: Roasted cocoa beans and vanilla combined with a delicate, lasting herbal notes, all backed by a nutty, dried raisin and currant character. A very difficult session as both were so similar generally, but quite different when you goes into details. I would pick out #42 for better complexity on the nose and palate, although the finish is less pleasant compared to #40.

Нос	93	Like hs305 put it - flawless modern oloroso sherry cask matured profile. Such a pleasure when nosing, with multi-layered of dried fruits note. More espresso, dark chocolate, and lots of brown sugar and toffee sweetness. A bit of sweet vinegar appears after a while. There is a nice oakiness which compliments the sherry notes perfectly.
Вкус	92	Dark chocolate with dried fruits sweetness works perfectly here. A bit of Oolong tea, and some bitter oakiness here, some might found it a little bit too oaky, but I'm ok with it. Sweet chocolate syrup and a slight bit of saltiness. Surprise.
Финиш	87	Long, dry and nutty, predominantly ultra high cocoa content dark chocolate and Oolong tea, quite bitter but not unpleasant.

A 4cl sample. There is really nothing subtle about this malt. Big, bold Oloroso notes, the flavours slap you across the face, but everything is in balance and no off notes at all. I’m not really a sherry whore, like many, but this is pretty undeniable. Putting it beside a similar glendronach and it blows it away. A benchmark of modern sherried whisky. Thanks to my friend for the sample

Нос	90	Dry Oloroso sherry. New leather, espresso, bakers chocolate, brisket crust, barrel char, dark cherries, dried blueberries, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, clove. Earthy woods like dried firewood, twigs and leaves.
Вкус	91	Dry and rich. Spice builds - pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, clove. Espresso, new leather, carob, dark chocolate. Dark dried fruits (cherry, blueberry, strawberry, prune, fig). A little polish
Финиш	91	Long, drying, spice stays about the same. Leather and coffee beans. Copper. Loses the fruits to oak. Black pepper and licorice join in late.

Nose: wonderful, rum raisin, intense, even after slight dilution to approx. 46%. Palate: mouthcoating, liqueur-like, sweet, vanilla sugar, rum raisin, grapey, complex, a whisky to 'chew', nice mouthfeel. Finish: Oak spice, espresso, sweetness and slight bitterness linger longer, pleasant.

There’s no question that there’s some ginger spiciness apparent when drunken neat, but it’s far less than the monstrous 58.6% ABV, and it only hits on the front palate. This GlenDronach 1993 Single Cask #42 aged for 23 Years in an Oloroso Sherry Butt is excellent. Even with the high ABV, it’s very enjoyable neat, with the initial spice kick at the front palate always balanced by the delicious Oloroso Sherry influence, the wood and malt and sherry all in harmony. There’s a luxurious appeal to every sip, and the initial ginger spice never dominates, but actually engages your palate, keeping its attention as you enjoy each dram. This is one of the best modern sherry cask whiskies I’ve tried in a while. A touch less heat (neat) and this would be legendary.

Нос	91	Beautiful, warm Christmas cake. Taking another inhale: It’s like cutting open that Christmas cake and revealing a moist cake with plums, cherries, raisins. Stewed figs. No alcohol burn on the nose despite the 58.6% ABV! Impressive.
Вкус	92	Thick, viscous mouthfeel. This is a balanced ginger heat that’s powerful at the start, but never gets unbalanced. Just an initial spice that’s always controlled, and the ginger scales down beautifully over time, balanced by the incredible flavors. Rich caramel, plum jam, Christmas cake, baked raisins (in the cake). By the mid-palate, a gorgeous dark chocolate (80% cacao) arrives, fine leather bound books in an ancient library. 2nd dram: Cinnamon-ginger, cloves, dried pluots. Plum jam. Some malty notes in the background. More of the ancient library.
Финиш	90	Long. The initial ginger heat at this point is a beautiful gentle warmth in the chest, fading away. More dried stone fruit. Dark chocolate (70% cacao) on the finish, a beautiful ginger spice fade (controlled). Rich, old leather notes in the background. Balanced.

Overall, a very interesting and delicious GlenDronach. He is a sherry bomb in any case and also the beautiful, old flavors are not missing. Some water does him good in any case. He finds a complete U-turn from almost sherry overloaded to old and complex. However, in my opinion, it is not quite as excellent as the barrel 35th But that is complain at a very high level and always a matter of taste.

Tasting set from @Whisky.Hedonist.MY. Glendronach 1993 cask 40 & 42. Both are very intense, well balance sherry cask whisky. Cask 42 gave a more lively impression.

Нос	90	explosive sherry note, dried fruit, fig, raisin, marmalade, vanilla and little hint of cinnamon. Oak, cedar and dark chocolate from the cask
Вкус	89	Sweet Vanilla, oak. silky and soft tannin.
Финиш	92	Very long finish with the pleasant tannin mouthfeel. Dark chocolate and toffee.

Nose.. On the nose, very, very nice delicate honeydew honey squeezing through under raisins, figs, dates and spices — the kind used for mulled red wine. Taste... Pleasantly heavy, quite oily, honey, a bit of fruit in the caramel and cocoa. The finish... lingers long, is pleasant - a bit like hot, but not at all sweet chocolate, like mulled wine with good wine.
