🥃 Whisky Auctioneer

As Scottie might say: "It's whiskey Jim, but not as we know it".  Interesting, but not a great fan of bourbon.

Two Barrels This Double Oak version from Jim Beam was launched in 2016. As the name suggests it is matured in not one, but two barrels, freshly charred. The nose is honeysweet on vanilla sugar, caramel, hint of fruit tea and coconut milk, hazelnuts, menthol and bitter oranges, but there is also some nail polish remover there (and no, Dearly Beloved is not doing her nails right now). Some melon and banana maybe? Okay-ish. On the palate I first get spices like nutmeg, cinnamon and… oh! The sweetness of the fruit is gone before I can say anything about it. It turns immediately bitter. What a shame. I like a bitterness now and then, but it should not dominate, which it does here. I got some hazelnuts and dried fruit, but I think the second cask was a bit to active. The finish is medium long, sweet and peppery, but dry. At the death I get the taste of warm cola (yes, I once left my glass in the sun too long and took another sip – I can strongly recommend against it). Around 30 EUR, which is fair for what you get, but it’s not really a sipper. Rather to be poured with a big chunk of ice while enjoying a bit of sunshine on your terrace.

Another release, which sounds good, but nothing more. Lots of wasted potential. Since I definitely prefer the Woodford Reserve Double Oaked.

Slightly better than a pod

Maybe it would work if they made it four oak? Just kidding. Might be better with cola than regular JB... If you're wondering about my way below average score for this, consider that it's just the usual JB (59 pts.) with some makeup. I prefer honest poor whiskey (let's say Valamo 5yo, 69 pts.) to dressed up poor whiskey.
