В аромате — прибрежный торф и дым, йод, водоросли и солёный морской бриз поверх сладости: мёд, ваниль, карамель, миндаль, а также обугленный ананас, персик и абрикос — та самая фруктовая сладость, что отмечают как новый почерк дистиллерии при нынешнем производстве. Во вкусе плотное маслянистое тело, торфяной дым, копчёный бекон и обугленное мясо, соль, йод, пряности (перец, гвоздика, мускатный орех) и стойкая фруктово-медовая сладость; несмотря на почти 59%, спирт интегрирован и почти не колется. Послевкусие среднее или длинное, дымное, солёное, суховатое, слегка кисловатое с яблоком и морскими нотами. Хвалят прежде всего гармонию, укрощённый спирт и сочетание молодой мощи с балансом, а самый детальный опытный отзыв ставит вещь вровень с L2.0 как «маленький шедевр». Критика идёт по двум линиям: простота и предсказуемость (торфяно-дубовый «монстр» ради дешёвого эффекта, вкус тяжелосольного бурбона без прежней сложности старого Laphroaig) и завышенная цена за виски без указания возраста уровня максимум 12 лет; заявленных «тропических фруктов», кроме жареного ананаса, почти никто не находит. Расхождение среди опытных заметное — от 81–83 (молодой, неприятно смолистый, «зачем это») до 90 (доверие к дистиллерии оправдано), но основная масса держится в узком коридоре 86–89, так что при разбросе словесных вердиктов числовые оценки в целом согласованы вокруг рейтинга 88.

A lot of coastal peat and sweetness, definitely a modern Laphroaig - very nice and drinkable

Throwing a NAS onto the market for ~180 euros: you do that if you have the appropriate chutzpah or if you think you have built up a fundamental level of trust over the years so that you can simply afford it. I can confirm the latter for myself - and my trust was not disappointed. The Elements L 1.0 clearly goes in the direction that the bottlings responsible for Barry MacAffer have already shown: fruitier and more accessible than before, but without the classic Laphroaig character falling by the wayside. If I had to guess an age, I would be around 15 years old, but for 18 it's definitely too robust for me. The packaging says, among other things: A series of surprising whiskys revealing new dimensions of Laphroaig. Flavor profile: Spice - Tropical - Smoke I can't confirm 'Tropical', but I can play the rest.

Нос	90	Dried seaweed, warm tar, a slight hint of Hansaplast, sweet pineapple, peach wedges, dried apricot pieces. Thyme, rosemary, black pepper, now a resonating medicinal note in the background. Dried herbs, yeast dough. On the one hand, this is clearly Laphroaig - and on the other hand, it's not. Or to put it another way, perhaps better: the nose is a modification of what was previously associated with Laphroaig.
Вкус	91	Oh yes, it takes no prisoners and goes straight to the front with hearty peat smoke, a very nice and sweet fruit note and pronounced sea aromas. This fruit sweetness, which falls somewhere between apricot, peach, sweet red apple, red currant and here and there strawberry, seems to be evolving into (the?) new Laphroaig style under MacAffer. It's dense and fat on the tongue, which is definitely not due to the 58.6%, but rather because it has a well-defined body with a very decent base. Thyme, oregano, rosemary, pepper, grated nutmeg. A warm caramel candy, vanilla, forest honey, sugar beet syrup - and the fruit notes last a long time, which in combination with the maritime, tarry smoke makes it very pleasant and tasty.
Финиш	90	Medium to long, a hint of peat smoke to set you apart (that combination of smoke - seaweed - elastane that only Laphroaig can achieve), persistent fruit sweetness, later slightly dry, only slightly spicy, the focus here shifts to the maritime, the sea is close.

The nose doesn't presage the palate, which has much more ooph to it, including a spice note. The peat comes in fairly late, but provides a gentle medicinal note. Well worth trying - not sure I'd want a full bottle to work my way through.

Нос	85	Slightly spiky in the glss, but the main note I get is chocolate hobnobs - a note of note, followed by a hint of chocolate. Im struggling to pick up the peat.
Вкус	87	The mouthfeel is pleasant - it is n unusul combination of beilng slightly thin whilst oily at the samew time - the peat comes through on the palate as a slightly medicinal note - like mild antiseptic - the chocolate nobnobs are no longer obvious - the alcohol provides a warming finish with a hint of star anise.
Финиш	85	The finish is medium with a drying note creeping in - the alcohol provides a gentle burn, but with a hint of star anise or some form of dark spice.

[April, 2024] For years, there are two clear trends with all new Laphroaig releases - the quality goes south while the prices are heading north. From time to time I still check a new bottling simply to proof if (at least) the quality trend will reverse... ...no, it does not (until now). This is just another very simple peat-wood monster which goes for cheap thrills, only. There are no signs of the glorious and complex old Laphroaig profile, instead this tastes just like a heavily-peated Bourbon whisky. Of course, this is drinkable but both the charm and thrill of the old Laphroaig are gone completely. To be honest, to me there is nothing of interest in there to write a detailed tasting note. It is perfectly designed for today's malt whisky mass market, but it is not of interest to someone who was lucky enough to experience the unique and non-replicable old Laphroaig profile for decades. ...could be any heavily-peated whisk(e)y, sorry folks.

Nose: tasty peaty dunnage smell, and yes, the bourbon cask is very evident. But that peat, seaweed, salty air, wonderful. Palate: The theme continues, added sweetness, even some fruit comes through. The medicinal notes are not overwhelming but part of the overall enjoyment. Finish: relatively mild, not ultra long.

Нос	89	BBQ, ham, bacon, campfire. A bit of phenolic undertone with a touch of sweetness. The sweetness becomes more apparent over time in the glass. Today smoked peanut.

Typically, Laphroaig uses two 5.5 tonne mash tuns to give 11 tonnes of wort to go into the washback. For this expression, they looked back to the pre-1990s when it was common practice to use a singular 8.5 tonne mash tun, and used it in addition to the two 5.5s for a whisky that's the result of old meeting new. The wort they pull from the tuns through to the washbacks is usually semi-cloudy, which is what gives Laphroaig its combination of fruity and smoky flavours. For Elements 1.0, they’ve also pulled through cloudy wort, which gives bigger and heavier flavours, emphasising the phenolic notes. Cloudy wort can be quite bold and a little overpowering, but this 50/50 mix of cloudy and semi-cloudy has balanced out perfectly. It is matured in ex-bourbon casks. The story of this exciting release doesn’t just stop once the liquid is made. The packaging and design of Elements 1.0 is inspired by sketches of designs for the distillery expansion in the late 1800s and early 1900s. There’s something new to study for the keen-eyed each time you look, as they’ve incorporated some nuggets of information about the process of creating Elements on the label of the bottle and the box itself.

Very nice nose with not much behind it. A quarter cask with intense oak and sweetness, that's how it strikes me. Or as a certain Sherlock H. would say: 'Elementary, Watson!'

Нос	88	Charred roofing felt, Finnish tar soap, smoked lemon slices, the sweetness of dried apricots and freshly sliced chilies. Pretty attractive.
Вкус	86	Surprisingly gentle for almost 59%, spicy and oily. But then, after this little sensation, not really meaningful anymore.
Финиш	85	Pleasant, yes, and again: balanced and almost elegant for the alcohol content, but that's about it as far as aromas go.

The nose is really well done, the smoke is there but it is smoother, it is mostly vegetal, angelica, roasted hazelnuts, a full ashtray in the background, very discreet medicinal notes, ether, but also a few drops of grapefruit, papaya seared in the pan, prickly pear, oily vanilla, mineral salts on the end. On the palate, nice balance, coconut milk, big layer of smoke that crushes on the tongue, white fruits heated in the oven, not too strong spices, ginger, clove. Well done finish, not too violent, elegant woody, tinder, coal nuggets, chestnuts, custard. A very decent dram. A strong player, sweet, sea-like, with a lot of smoke, sour fruit. The alcohol is completely unnoticeable, pleasantly warming.

A Laphroaig as intense and powerful as you would wish - and (as expected) the alcohol is comparatively tame, barely noticeable on the nose. This bottling combines harmony and balance with youthful power. Addendum: After tasting the equally excellent L2.0, the last sentence applies even more to that one. Despite their great differences, both bottlings are completely on the same level. Two small masterpieces, despite the lack of an age statement.

Нос	89	Open it straight away and the very nice, strong smoke typical of Laphroaig will immediately pour out of the glass, interwoven with sweet, smooth honey and fruit notes. Iodine and salt are also a must here. It's unbelievable that we're dealing with over 58% here. There's nothing sharp or pungent here. The nose is lush and perfectly balanced. Maritime smoke, iodine, salty sea spray, vanilla, flambéed pineapple, caramel, honey, passion fruit, dried peach slices, delicate oak spice. Once the nose has blocked out the smoke, the overall impression changes somewhat, sour aromas (red apples) come to the fore and "delicate" aromas are also added that remind me of fried bacon.

Laphroaig has come up with an exciting story for this whisky and in today's whisky world, stories about a new whisky unfortunately always mean that it will be expensive... This distillate was fermented from two different mash tuns; One of these mash tuns probably worked "in the style of the 1990s" (although in my experience 1990 wasn't exactly the legendary vintage of Laphroaig). In addition, "the 55-hour fermentation of the mash was personally monitored by the distillery manager" - that sounds exciting, almost "experimental" if you imagine it... No matter, the resulting semi-cloudy seasoning is said to have added “tropical fruits” in any case. Tropical fruits in Islay whisky are essentially the Mona Lisa or Rembrandt of flavors - if they are really there. Except for the grilled pineapple, I can't find any tropical fruits here. In the official tasting notes of most of the current "historic" Islay malts over 150 euros, you can now almost always read about the legendary tropical fruits - it is rare to actually find them in the whisky. Here too, the “story” finally didn’t really take me away. The Triple Wood from 2008 (WB-ID 6083), which I have in my glass at the same time, seems like a diluted version of this, but for the 1.5 point difference and 30 euros for a liter at the time, I'm not sure which one I prefer both of them.

Нос	89	An intense aromatic nose, but not a sharp nose that is not driven by alcohol - that's a good thing. A sweetness that unfortunately reminds me of caramel coloring and caramel coloring, which is probably also included here because the label doesn't exclude it and hardly any distillery would leave out this addition "without coloring" if they could - at least in a 180 euro whisky . Everything that comes after is very balanced, the iodine, the salty coastal flavors, the medicinal smoke. A mix of the very good 10yo CS Batch 11 and the mediocre Batch 12. Grilled pineapple!
Вкус	89	88.5 Sweetness, then dark wood (oak, unfortunately), then maritime smoke, also the rather sweet, burnt bacon, dry smoke - nothing special, but not boring either due to the almost 60 percent. But definitely not tropical fruits. A bit disappointing overall. Little complex, few special aromas - like a colorful mix of the last 10yo Cask Strength batches from Batch 12 to 15.
Финиш	88	88.5 The mouthfeel is clean, nice, minimally oily and then comes a lot of dry, fruity (but not tropical) smoke. Remains peppery and dry in the throat; I guess medium length, but that could also be the alcohol.

Another outstanding Laphroaig bottling. Heavy peat level. Lots of burnt lemon cake. Just the right amount of wood and disinfectant. But the price? Sorry, not justified at all. I would rather pack two bottles of the 10yo CS any time of day or night.

First impression: It may be that the "pre-production", namely mash and fermentation, was slightly different, but at the moment it still tastes like a (very good!), extremely barrel-heavy (bourbon + QC?), sweet, oaky-spicy young and but delicious Laphroaig at a price that I don't understand, which will certainly never achieve cult status, simply because of the high number of bottles. More after the second and third tasting...

Somewhere in Scapa and Laphroaig It doesn't have that old feeling, but it emphasizes funkyness, maltness, and salty taste

It has an oily viscosity and its bouquet is of high intensity. I have aromas of intense, maritime peat smoke, vanilla, creme brulee, bacon, pipe tobacco and licorice. Moderately complex. A good balance between sweetness and dryness in terms of taste. The alcohol is pretty well integrated and has a heavy body.

To me it seems like a modern, slightly bloated Laphroaig. Definitely very drinkable and tasty too. But for the price it doesn't offer much that's new that I don't already know from the 10 CS, Lore or Quarter Cask. But that doesn't detract from the positive impression.

Open Review Overall, the spirit retains a low-aged feel while exhibiting strong peat. The bourbon cask nuances are not weak, but they do not feel like high-aged spirits and give the impression of being slightly overshadowed by the peat. If you like Laphroaig feet, this is a bit rounder than recent batches of 10CS, yet still retains its intensity.

I was able to try the Laphroaig Elements 1.0 at a trade fair. I find it very round and well balanced. Typical Laphroaig notes and nice campfire smoke with some medicine. But I can't see the added value of Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength and that doesn't justify the price, which is more than twice as high.

In general, the expectations were that it would be just CS 10 but more expensive, but I am comparing it with CS batch 14 and they are very different. The peatiness-smokiness of the brand is recognisable. The distillate itself seems to be really different, although I'm not sure for the better. This one is clearly young, the distillate itself is very nice to hear, all those green and malty notes, but overall very high quality. Everything that is characteristic of a bourbon barrel can be read well - there is spice, there is sharpness, there is a pronounced oakiness, despite the clearly young age. Very dry mouth! Oil and machine notes appear in the taste, but the finish sinks a little.

Nose and initial taste baked apples and baked dough. Muffins? Also, a certain sourness. There seems to be some sherry overtones. Has it spent times in sherry casks? Peat throughout. I need to let it "develop" and come back to it. Sourness has significantly abated, so good. Improved, but not enough to raise rating. Retasted June 2023. Wonderful aftertaste. Only half bottle left. Rating improved.

A super Laphroaig rendition, character shines through with a tasty malt. Enjoyable bold nose , peaty, maritime, fruity smoky, smoked bacon, maple syrup, spices, apples, light honey , caramel, medicinal, vanilla. Taste is rich, peaty, sweet and well rounded with no off notes. Warm waves of fruitiness, salty pineapples, iodines, plasters are there. Not too sweet or savoury . As few drops of water tones down the smoke and enhances the sweetness. Lovely malt. Thanks to Maurice for the sample.

I never thought I was actually going to end up buying this Laphroaig because of the (as I thought) outrageous price for a NAS whisky. Well, little did I know that my opinion would be changed that quickly... I had a chance to try this Laphroaig last night and (unfortunately?) it is an absolute stunner! It's all you would expect from a good, well-matured and also well-aged (!!) Laphroaig. It's very fruity (feels like there is quite a portion of 18+ Laphroaig in there), it is lightly medicinal, it is very peaty with notes of tobacco and herbs, it is thick, it is deep, it is complex and the peaty finish lingers forever. Well, what can I say... I couldn't resist and ended up buying a bottle. Sure, the price is steep but the quality of the liquid certainly matches the high price tag - even though I would have preferred it to be around 150 Euros. Stunner nonetheless!

A textbook-style modern Laphroaig with a strong straight punch. It delivers fruitiness, nuttiness, and peat in balanced fashion without noticeable off-notes, making it feel cleaner and more polished than some Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength releases that can occasionally lean funky or rough around the edges. While the nose volume is slightly underwhelming for the ABV and the rough tannins reduce drinkability somewhat, the overall balance is very solid.

Nose: Heavy, smoldering stinky smoke with some algae. Crispy bacon fried in sesame oil with Sichuan peppercorns. Decent vanilla and lots of fruit. Red apple, papaya, a little mango and passion fruit. I have to think a little of the 16-year-old Laphroaig for Amazon - but the Laphroaig Elements is also different: more direct in the smoke aroma, more complex and fruity in the secondary aromas. Mouth: Initially slightly peppery, then black tea. The fruit is rather subtle, herbs are more in the foreground here. The fruit is a nice mix of mango, baked apple and pineapple. Finish: Medium length, ashy and fruity, vanilla. 90/100 Conclusion: I like it very, very much. Has the strong smoke of a young Laphi but at the same time beautiful, deep fruit notes of an older whisky. I wouldn't be surprised if under 10 year olds, some from quarter casks (because of the strong vanilla) and around 16 year olds were married here. And I think the composition is extremely successful

I'm torn about this whisky. I like it a lot, it seems like an extremely rich quarter cask. It's better, but the price is in a completely different world.

After finishing a whole bottle, my conclusion is rather mixed. An interesting Laphi with some unusual aromas like grilled pineapple. In my opinion, the price of 170 to 180 euros is rather absurd. I wouldn't buy it again even for half the price.

The Laphroaig L 1.0 disappoints long-time fans of the brand, lacking the complex and deep flavors of previous bottlings. Instead, it offers a simpler, heavily peated experience. With a high price tag of over €170, it's hard to justify, especially when compared to more robust and affordable bottlings like the Laphroaig Cask Strength 10 Year Old. Overall, the Laphroaig L 1.0 gets a score of 85 out of 100 from me.

Tasting of a 5 cl. sample. It's a bit unusual for a NAS Laphroaig, that's true. Rather bright fruits with a lot of sweetness and mineral maritime in the mouth and throat, the nose on the milder side. For me it doesn't have the typical medicinal Laphroaig peat/smoke, but rather the campfire smoke of Lagavulin or Caol Ila. It's also quite tasty, but nothing extraordinary, I miss the big taste explosion. This adventure wouldn't be worth the full price to me. In terms of price-performance ratio, at over €170, the NAS is a loser for me personally compared to the current Laphroaig Cask Strength 10 Batch #16. In addition to the mouth-filling, intense (fruit) aromas, I also miss the stronger oak to counterbalance the smoke. If I'm looking for something delicate, mild, more balanced from Laphroaig, I take the Laphi 16, which is also cheaper than this one. On the other hand, with Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength I always get what I expect from Laphroaig CS, with certain aromatic nuances from batch to batch, brutal aromas. But always at fair prices. To even give this L 1.0 90 or 91 points, I think it's exaggerated. Somehow you don't need it in the entire Laphroaig range. Hopefully Laphroaig won't copy Ardbeg's pricing policy in the future: mostly overpriced NAS special bottlings with average quality ;-)

Perfectly integrated alc. - does not feel like 58,6%. Finish: long finish with peat and smoke. Little bit spicy and again grilled meat. Overall a warm mouthfeel but not very oily. The color is between honey and gold and I‘m overall very satisfied with this dram! It‘s good and I would definitely recommend to try one.

An experiment I would say perfectly successful, by changing a few elements of the processing the end result upsets what we know of Laphroaig, although not all the characteristics are lost. Something new and different, certainly pleasant and well constructed, I don’t know if better or worse but very interesting.

Нос	89	The first thing that strikes the nose is the absence of Laphroaig’s usual peated markings: the smoke is clearly in the background, vegetal and maritime and devoid of the usual medicinal notes, pushed towards evocations of resin and toasted pine. In the foreground are citrus-driven fruity notes (especially tangerines), mixed between fresh (peach, apricot, mango) and candied fruit, with a chorus of pastry in the background: angel food cake, honey, meringues, pineapple in syrup. Over time, the coastal smoke rises in volume and a drizzle of cough syrup appears. Quite the chameleon.

My fourth deliberate Laphroaig tasting dram, and by far the most unique. The salinity here is incredible; very salty to the extent that it sits on your lips like seawater. It laughs at Inchgower. But, it's quite nice all around--it has a balance and would be a fun one to show. I'd venture to say it's my favorite Laphroaig so far, but I still need to sample the L2 and the 18 YO. Water may have improved the profile, reducing the heat a bit and bringing up the other components. I'd suggest a drop.

Нос	85	Wet ropes, oyster shells, candied ginger. Perhaps some chorine. Clear, but not screaming out of the glass.
Вкус	87	Body is fairly light. Lots of transitions happened, and so fast it was hard to capture them on the first sip. The ABV showed first, as it came in quite hot. Saline dominates this dram. The saltiest tasting whisky I can remember; it sits on the lips well after the dram is sipped. Medicinal notes follow; tar, iodine, medical tape. Towards the end sweetness takes the forefront along with a measured smokiness. Very unique--but the salinity is so pronounced it almost seems suspect.
Финиш	87	Long, smoky, medicinal, salty-sweet. While persistent, the overall profile remains light and not overbearing. Tea spice.

Archer has described this great material appropriately and beautifully. Admittedly, I was skeptical in advance about the lack of age information and the issue price of ~ 180 euros. But I have to say, for me this was a very positive surprise and the best thing I've had the pleasure of trying from Laphroaig in recent years. What awaits the connoisseur here is no medicinal, tarry ashtray residue, but rather a complex tropical aroma paired with sweet and spicy notes of ham and herbs. The whole thing hits the tongue very densely, intensely and beautifully interwoven and stays there for quite a while after the sip has left the mouth. The alcohol tingles on the tongue, but is well integrated when swallowed and doesn't burn at all. Despite the NAS, it tastes solid and sedate, I'm guessing it's 15-17 years old. Great fabric, need a new pull of it!

Yes, this whisky is sweet and peaty. Its character is fruity, malty and very fresh. Not at all like a Laphroaig, more like Port Charlotte in my opinion. Additionally, I wasn't convinced by the price point.

Conclusion: For fans of the raw, untamed side of Laphroaig.

For me this is a typical representative of a morden Islay. There's a bit of a lot and it's not unspectacular, but nothing really characteristic outside the usual range of tastes. What I don't like, by the way, are the flavors that are often found in today's Islay whiskys, which remind me of mineral drinks like champagne etc. To me, the taste of this whisky seems very constructed and adapted to the supposed tastes that people want to serve these days. I understand everyone who likes that, but I much prefer a simple standard bottling or average single barrel bottlings.

Arrived in my shop yesterday and I was able to try one. I just thought he was fantastic. Intense laphroaig notes. Complex, older smoke, but still intense. The feeling is that it has been in the barrel for a few years and then added something like 10 years to intensify the whole thing. A phenolic sweetness in the mouth that lasts forever. Still in my mouth the next day. It felt like my first Octo, which I had in my mouth for half a week, only on Laphroaig. The bottle had to be taken away immediately ;) Easily one of the best Laphis I've had so far.

Wonderful complex dram. Changing by the minute Below notes were first impressions. Sweetness grows with time on the nose and mouth. Nose: peat smoke ,sea air with unripe apples Mouth: Damp camp fire with green apple,almond cake and salted caramel wrapped in a band aid. It’s a cross between CS and Quarter cask. It’s got young qualities but that’s not a bad thing with Laphroaig. Finish: Peat smoke lingers for hours!
