Fresh, fruity, powerful, very drinkable

Tasted at the Whisky Show, Budapest 2018.10.27.

21 22 20 21 84 Good overall, but for me it is simple and sour and the aftertaste is not distinct.

Some sulphur, dark fruits, vanilla, toffee, sweet spices, ok

furniture cleaning wax, lychees, elegant, pear, vanilla, robust, chocolate layers, oaken furniture wax.

Grassy and floral. The nose does not go along with the body.

One of the most beautiful and heaviest bottles I have ever seen and held. Very creamy it smells, sherry intense, raisins, honey, oak. Very strong in the mouth, aromatic, quite spicy. Juniper, cloves, herbal salt. Medium-length finish. Not bad. Way too expensive...

definitely a good malt - personally, the style is not so, because he can not decide between his Vattinganteilen and I lack a certain clarity. Without the extreme fleshy notes in my nose, I would have given 2 more points - I just do not like whisky smelling of Sunday roast

A wonderful and promising beginning in the aroma, unfortunately, was not fully supported by the taste / finish, and although overall the whisky leaves a pleasant impression, its potential is not fully revealed, which is disappointing.

The taste seems stronger, richer, spicier and sharper. The middle is simply great, but the edges (aroma and balance) are not so bright and complex. 21 23 23 21

beautiful malt. Very complex due to the different barrel maturations, especially in the nose.

Nose: Creamy and fruity, the nose opens with notes of toffee and fresh citrus. In the mouth: At once sweet and intense, the mouth reveals successively notes of dark chocolate, grapes for a great depth and a beautiful complexity. A dash of water can open on woody and peppery notes. The finale: Long and memorable. A very greedy glass that transcribes all the fruity and delicate character of Single Malts Arran.

Brodick Bay & Lochranza Castle, the first two in a probably 3-part series. I have to say that Lochranza Castle is much more mature and harmonious, I definitely like it better. The finish in Amontillado barrels brings a very harmonious note. Brodick Bay has a more youthful character with a rather bitter, tannin-like barrel character.

The wine's age doesn't show; despite being 20 years old, the Arran tastes quite harsh, unbalanced, and in some parts immature. A shame.

I'm a fan of Arran. So the rehearsal was a must! With these key data, not too much should go wrong.

Pastries and mellow fruits arrived for high tea on a tiered platter of scones, biscuits, and mini cakes— a classically Arran start that was malty, fruity, and honey-sweet. In the tea pot, something herbal and slightly floral with hints of orange and occasionally bergamot. Medium-bodied the flavor profile drifted from strawberry cream pastries to hibiscus and passionflower tea with simple syrup or a touch of whipped honey on whole grain bread rolls. The influence of the sherry casks was more readily apparent on the palate as stone fruits slowly gathered steam with a touch of clove oil and vanilla, while pepper lingered at the end. The finish was medium to long with dried fruits, a kiss of salt, and more malty pastries. The first of the Explorers series from Arran, this release showcased the maltier side of the spirit with tons of big pastry notes and cereals coming out ahead of the fruitier inclinations of the sherry maturation. It was missing Arran’s earthiness, but had all the other elements to make it something of a classic. I thought the flavors were not quite as clear and well-defined as Volumes Two and Four of the series, but not nearly as muddled as volume three. Overall, a versatile malt and something more of a session or sipping whisky than some of the others in the series. I did not think it quite hit the same highs, though it was not far off.

Gentle and complex was the first impression. sherry, nuts, apricots. some old oak but not too much. But after the first sip it faded away quickley. it got a bit watery, the aromas did not develop any further. Did expect more from this dram. the 18yo was the better choice for me.
