This is a direct comparison between the Yellow Submarine 25 bottle launched during the Feis Ile 2016 and the WMD III bottle sold in 2018. Here is 1) the Feis Ile 2016 bottle and 2) the 2018 WMD III. That was very exciting. Can I now say to the hundredth, if exactly the same whisky in the glass was or exclude this, which would probably be simpler? Not really ..... Both are quite similar to some transient behavior of the WMD III, but it can also be that my brain helped a lot. But let's just assume that this is the same whisky and if not, then at least a very similar composition. The initial clear discrepancy I attribute to the fact that 1) has been waiting for more than 2 years in a half-full sample bottles on the tasting. So a few words to the WMD III itself: Air helps and works wonders here. If I let the respective first impression out, then this is an outstanding whisky and even the change after some time in the air you can classify positively under exciting, if you like. In the mouth, after the first sip, he was a revelation, a total flood of aromas, the combination of chocolatey sherry fruit note and tingling acidic components is great, the aftertaste then long, pleasant and warming. More please :-)

1) first suggest a heavy note of dark fruits before it gets fresher, citrus notes come to it, the whisky looks ripe and set, very complex, old leather, behind it come red fruits like raspberry, over all lies a slightly caramel creamier and cheesier Keynote, which also gives clear indications of the Laddie basic character, chocolate, rather whole milk, something acidic, which I can describe as iodine, slightly peppery spice, or nutmeg it could be, which makes a lot in the nose Fun, here I could smell forever ... ok, then back to this one, I can only confirm it once again, these are two different whiskys, this one delivers directly from the very good, totally chocolaty and the Citrus notes flash through again beautifully, wow the last smell before the first sip here is suddenly the citrus note totally dominant, reminds me something of citrus freshness at a m detergent, warming brings back the previous flavor profile 2) ok, definitely different, fresher, notes of green apples, fruit salad, malt, looks much younger at first, I have here strong tobacco associations and mine also a trace of smoke to discover, here is the creamy Laddienote there, caramel and vanilla , slightly floral, the spicy tobacco is clearly in the foreground, it really takes time to develop and I'll give it to him ..... yes he actually opens, and he actually approaches, it's fascinating what air now, here too clearly chocolate, nuts, dark fruits, the sherry influence is now noticeable, the green apple remains noticeable as a background note, the age is here now clearly tangible, so after I have 1) finished trying, has the nose of 2) increased again, fuller, more intense and rounder, now actually quite close to the flavors of 1) at the beginning, I am very curious about the taste |

1) oily, creamy, here too the citrus note is there and lies over the dark fruits of the sherry, interesting interaction, fish and tingling, also raspberry, the acid brings, some chocolate, but now rather dark, clearly oak there, the one indicates drier tone, overall rather sour fruity than sweet, which fits well with the oak, the whisky is also set in the mouth rather, the drinking strength contributes to the flavors play the first violin and alcohol is not an issue 2) oily and creamy, nutty, also sherry influence, chocolate, oak, ok the taste also says that they are different whiskys, the second sip is much better than the first, intense, creamy, fruity, clearly dark chocolate, tingling of light acid, now I'm not one hundred percent sure, the similarity is bigger again, the last sip I let the whisky slide over his tongue and read the notes of 1) -> could fit now quite well |

1) then explode the fruit, have now a fruit salad with apple and pear, grapes and even kiwi, again nice fresh and sour, also the wood has left slightly dry in the haunting traces, espresso to the fruit salad 2) here very grapes-heavy, bitter oak, grape skin, dry and tingling, occupies the mouth, light peppery pungency, after the second sip now also chocolate, apple, also fruity, nice warming and long fading |
Definitely tasty and without missing notes, but a bit unexcited, there is a lack of depth, the wine and the old age in combination have made it a bit gentle.

In a word - nice! A whole basket of fruit opens up, the different influences on the legs flash over and over each other and complement each other wonderfully. Tropical fruits like papayas and pineapple, some of the classic ex-bourbon flavors like honey and subtle oak in the background. The latter makes it clear that this is not a young malt, but keeps - I like that - very overcast and not overly overly dry and spicy aromas. With some, the malt becomes even creamier and more pleasing, especially the fruit flavors become stronger. Well noticeable for my taste on the sherry influence, which is light and slightly dry. Overall, really nice nose, where you can stay long, long. |

Sweet, fruity, pleasing and simply very pleasant. It is not uncommon for malts to start drifting into very dry wood and barrel flavors at this age due to the extremely strong influence of the barrels, so the Bruichladdich definitely does not give a damn. The fruits from the nose are back, now a little more immature and more towards green fruits. Also the sherry notes are discreetly noticeable, maybe a bit too decent. I miss the influence of the wine barrels, at least I can not grasp them in any way. If you leave the malt some time on the tongue, the dry sherry is noticeably stronger. The slightly red fruits (and also some oak) enter the ring and make for a nice change. |

Long and slightly drier. Is there a subtle smoky note that mixes with the spicy woody aromas? The WMD III finds here still a pleasant balance and avoids extremes. What remains is a slightly dry palate, without any bitter (miss) note. |
In the beginning, the whisky is quite restrained, but if you give it some time, the flavors come out better. On the palate okay, but the alcohol is not really well involved and he is a bit sprittig. Finally he stays in the mouth for a really long time.

It starts with unspecific fruitiness, then it becomes sour and spicy. Toasted aromas appear. Later then pear, quince jelly and passion fruit. Slightly sprightly. You can still find vanilla, honey and oak and in the course of sweetness. |

Quite oaky and spicy. Also bright fruits. Alcohol is somewhat sprightly and not very well integrated. |

Departure is usually medium long, but the whisky remains in the mouth for a long time with nut, honey and oak. |

7 // 8 Hm, maybe a little over-aged. Lots of sherry influence, a bit dry. Nutty and dried fruits. // Definitely needs water. Sweet, tropical, brown sugar, overripe banana. |

That whisky is truly a jewel. Red fruits on the nose a light ocean sided smell ( very faint). in the mouth it shows the unicorn everyone is talking about, complex, fruity, and a very Laddie like finish that shows we are home. Very glad to have found a whole bottle.

"WMD" stands for "Whisky of Mass Distinction" – and that's exactly what this bottling is. The Yellow Submarine is not a figment of the imagination – it's a real part of the island's history. At the end of the 1990s, a small yellow submarine was discovered off the coast of Islay. The British government initially denied everything until the mystery was solved by the Royal Navy. Bruichladdich took this curiosity with typical Scottish humor – and turned it into an iconic whisky series. The WMD III – The Yellow Submarine is the final homage to this story. A bottling full of depth, matured for 25 years in casks, perfectly composed and thought out down to the last detail. TASTING NOTES Aroma: A complex bouquet with notes of red apples, melon, pineapple, accompanied by honey, lavender, and a hint of oak. Taste: Full-bodied and rich with flavors of orange, chocolate, brownies, and a hint of spice. The texture is oily and creamy, which intensifies the flavor. Finish: Long-lasting with a pleasant warmth, accompanied by notes of chocolate, spices, and a hint of sea salt. FACTS Age: 25 years Edition: 1,991 bottles Distilled: 1991 Bottled: 2018 Cask type: Refill sherry & bourbon, Spanish red wine Coloring: No Chill filtration: No Bottle size: 0.7 l Alcohol content: 46.0% Region: Islay
So given the other reviews on here 87 may seem a little stingy and be under no illusion, this whisky is absolutely ace. I've marked it down marginally as the nose is a little closed off for my taste but the palate is pretty much knock out.

Slightly closed, gives off some lime and a bit of rubber. Not a block buster at all but gently gives you an idea of what is to come. |

Complex, unctuous and mouth coating, a mix of soft orange fruit and deep red fruit. Hints of old oak barrels are intermingled as well |
