I thought this was pretty decent without being exciting but this has to be one of the cheapest 21 year old OB out there. This distillery gets very little air time , I would buy a bottle of this, it is an easy sipper with no sharp edges, take it for what it is. The finish is a little weak, but the palate is fine.

[August, 2016] Together with friends I emptied a bottle that I bought for 69 Euro in July, 2016.In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 82,5. My notes state it is the weakest 21 year Knockando I had so far.
Not bad, but I would expect more complexity and depth from whisky of this age!

Nose: fruity juicy oranges, fresh grapefruit, lime, fresh fruity tartness, hardly any sweetness in the nose, oak notes in the background well perceptible, but never dominiant, slightly dusty like sawdust from rotten wood Taste: Wood, in contrast to the nose a lot of oak and almost no fruit, slightly bitter, tart, slightly dry, but then comes on a light sweetness and light chocolate / coffee notes, but which are mostly overshadowed by tart wood, such a slightly biting stringy woody wort lies above everything. Also about the sherry fruits, which I can find only with the second sip. A mixture of oranges and occasionally a hint of red berries. The finish is quite long for 43% and becomes extremely dry and sawdust aromatic. Conclusion: The 1994 18-year-old Knockando tastes better. This one has a really nice nose, but in the mouth it's too harsh, woody just for my taste not in balance or too long in the barrel. Drinkable yes - but at the price I get better like Aberlour 18 or Cardhu 18

Less heavily sherried than the 18-year-old. Needs a bit of time in the glass. Nose: some cardboard and wood shavings, mint chocolates, sun-dried hay, baked apples, and honey. Still pretty fresh and light after 21 years. Veeeery faint peat in the background, could also be charred wood. Makes a rather dry impression, not a whole lot of fruitiness. It's pleasant, but a bit quiet. On the tongue, the body could be bigger, for sure. A bit thin; unimpressive attack. Very Speyside, very middle-of-the-road, with a very chillfiltered mouthfeel. More sherry on the palate than on the nose. Dry throughout, with tannic bursts and quite a bit of bitterness at the end. The age (i.e., old wood) comes through at the death as well. Finishes on bitter, sour coffee, perhaps a splash of herbal liqueur as well. Still some heat, even at 43% and 21 years. Not great, to be honest. Hmmmmh, I really liked the recent 12- and 15-year-old standard bottlings, and the 18-year-old was good as well if you're into dry sherry, but this one leaves me cold. For the most part, this provides an entry-level experience, with the age only showing intermittently, in frustrating flashes. I really don't see the point of this bottling. For the money, I'd opt for a Glenfarclas 21 or even a Ballantine's 21 (the 43% version, needless to say).
sweet spices, a peppery side on the return and the diffuse sherry sensation! then humus (wet grass!), mushrooms (cepes) and characteristic dry woody, vanilla-orange for fruits.

Here I have to be grateful for the sample from André as an encore. I don't have to stay long either, because it is one of the whiskys that hardly deserves its age. Especially in the transition to the finish, a complete deregistration of the sensory impressions from 21 years of maturation. The fact is: the nose saves the 84 points.

He has a rather unusual nose with an interplay of pleasant tannins and decent fruitiness, the former predominating. On the palate the aroma profile in the nose corresponds well and acceptable strength. You can enjoy it well, provided that the somewhat superficial tannins don't bother you.

Uncorked two months ago, it has maintained its gentleman level throughout and was an elegant, well-matured, extremely inexpensive 21yo Speysider until the end. Very successful and balanced, with complexity, but without rough edges - I bought it again because it was so much fun

Pleasant nose. Slightly woody, vanilla, caramel, lightly sour. Ok, but not memorable. Would have guessed it to be younger.
this one needs a lot of time to come to it's best. over half a year it kept improving. now it's finished so i'll never know if it would have improved more, all i know is that at first i was dissappointed and now i reckon it's damn good value for money!

Aroma: sweet honey, milk caramel, coffee with milk, dark raisins, prunes, black currant wiped with sugar, second wave - old lacquered furniture, dusty books, minerals (stone crumb), after some time fresh sliced ginger appears, blooming lilac . The fragrance is constantly revealed and begins to play with new colors, good! Taste: sweet ginger, extra black chocolate, black coffee with sugar, dark raisins, brown demerara sugar. Finish: medium length, chocolate and coffee gradually leaving sweetness in bitterness, compote of dried fruits, prunes, spices. Rating: 86 Bottom line: the aroma is closed, time-consuming, but gradually introduces something new and develops - I really liked it; after that you expect something similar from taste and finish, but alas, everything is pretty simple and monotonous here, but of course the balance is at a height - the coffee and chocolate theme is traced from aroma to finish.

Most know rarely as Knokando is a sub-brand distillery of Diageo, it mainly product single malt not basic liquor. This master reserve distilled in 1994, it brings us back to the retro style like the movie “Godfather”. Although flavor is rather normal, it still feels easy for drinking and completely liquor body. Compared with those new bottled whisky, the structure of liquor is full and sense of depth, at least it hasn’t strong alcohol and raw malt. Nose:short orange aroma , white floral, especially honey Taste:little chocolate、good malty、sweet marmalade、bitter but accepted Finish:citrus and malty.
A good start to older whiskys (>20 years) and definitely the most affordable 21 YO. Easy drinking at this age. But it does not hold up against any other 21 YO, feels younger and fresher compared to others. But for ~60€ quite alright.

An unexcited Knockando in 1994 Restrained and closed, it lies in the glass. With a little time and hand warmth it opens and exudes - better said "breathes" a tender Sherrybuket. The flavors are quite reserved, I have to look for something. Very interwoven (here is an excuse for not finding much at first), but elegantly flatters my senses. Raisin water. When I turn in a glass, I feel the smell of fresh bread, toast bread crumbs in the hot toaster, maybe. Little sweetness, but herbal aromas report. The palate remains a little pale in taste, slightly nutty. The alcohol is noticeable, although it is only 43 vol. % lies. Slight bitterness appears in the medium-long finish, cocoa dust, for example, and remains for a while. An unexcited drop, which is reasonably priced for its 21 years. However, not a replacement candidate.
An unexcited whisky that is "limited" to typical notes of bourbon and sherry casks. A bit of disappointment spreads with the first sip, but the aroma unfolds better and better with each subsequent sip. It's a rather quiet, dignified dam, with no special character or uniqueness... but maybe that's its strength - it conveys calm and serenity. A bit fiery on the palate, then warmth that lasts a long time on the finish and thus ensures a satisfied feeling of well-being. A whisky to "come down" .
This vintage is like Catherine Zeta-Jones in 1998 ( google it) - it's a beauty.

The first drop it hits the glass feels the room with fragrance. Opulent figs, raisins, and dried fruit emerge first. Cacao, chocolate follows with a much more discrete rounded note in the back (search for it, it's there)- Sweetness rounds the caramel and moves the dry fruit aroma further. Vanilla is present, but further in the back, shy. Raw warm jam fragrance dissipates once it sits in the glass and gives way to hay-like sweetness. Very complex, inviting, opulent, desireful. |

3 Components: Oak, Sherry, fresh fruits The development is progressive, starts with the oakiness, after all, it has been sitting in oak for 21 years. Its bittersweet, caramelized flavors are inviting - one more sip. The Sherry follows, with dried fruits, sherry signature, figs, and plums. Chocolate notes rise, in a smooth butterlike experience - wonderful The end comes from the x-bourbon American oak component, the apple, pears, and mandarins move you from sherry to bourbon. The transition is smooth, calm end balanced - complex and delicious |

The smoothness velvety sensation of silk describes best the finish of this whisky. Sherry and spices are present and reminiscent from the mouthfeel, pear and apple remain long before the whisky is gone, reminding you, how lucky you are to have had the opportunity to taste it. |
