In the glass tonight: Laphroaig The 1815 Legacy Edition. With 48% vol. A NAS whisky, originally intended for travel retail, you can get it in the first quarter of 2020 in the Dutch online trade for € 58. How is he doing against his NAS colleagues from the Laphroaig family? I think the spirits will separate here. For me personally, the "Lore" is the better choice for the same (reduced) price.

Clearly recognizable in the nose as Laphroiag, a medically sweet peat smoke spreads in the nose. Herbs, floral notes, licorice, sandalwood and yellow fruit. Canned peaches come to my mind. The sandalwood note becomes stronger in the glass with increasing time. This dram is very close to the "lore", it may be a little more acidic. The first impression is quite positive. |

On the palate, greasy smoke and sweetness, liquorice and rosemary. You can taste a very clear oak note. He seems a little phenolic and young to me. Ripe apricots remain as a fruit component; white pepper is clearly noticeable and a slight bitter note. |

The medium to long finish is dominated by phenolic smoke, honey sweetness, yellow fruit and a dry note. I can well imagine that this combination will find its friends. I'm more on the side of the "Lore". |
20 20 19 20 79 young, a lot of oak, little aftertaste, there is almost no aftertaste, ok, you can drink it, but of course it is desirable only when traveling on an airplane ... another sad release that I don't want to remember ... sad
The 1815 Legacy, along with the Four Oak, was launched in the first half of 2017 specifically for Travel Retail. So "exclusive" it was not, but shortly after the show you got both bottlings without any problems even without a plane ticket. What made Laphroaig wrong at the Four Oaks did them right again in 1815. A nice game with the distillery character.
Blind tasting of an unmistakable Laphroaig.

[January, 2018] Since the Beam Global management took over the responsibility of Laphroaig this once proud distillery is on a route that leads it far away from its traditional high quality profile. The whisky became more and more wood-driven and immature (almost all new releases are NAS) with an annoying "I punch that in your face" attitude. I am not sure if this is the new "Whisky Zeitgeist" but I am sure it is not my style. Out of all the new standard releases of the last three years I liked just the Cask Strength editions (that were distilled before Beam took over) - on all others my taste buds voted "forget it"... And this one is no exception, it is even worser! Immature spirit loaded with tons of bitter and adstringent tannins from virgin oak maturation is nothing I will ever enjoy in my life. This is just a very simple minded and effect-seeking dram that tries to impress by its boldness ("Can you really stand this?") instead by its quality. The price point of almost 100 Euro for such a young, immature whisky is - to be honest - shameless and ridiculous... It is the result when greed and ignorance combine to ride on top of the wave of the current whisky boom! But you should be aware that every wave breaks near the shore sometimes and any unprepared surfer can easily break his/her neck... I call this the "Bad Years of Laphroaig" and in case you own the same taste preference I advice to stock as many Laphroaig produced before 2010 as you most probably want to drink over the next 10 to 15 years to come. The situation will not improve as long as the owners do not change that management policy that just goes for volume instead of quality. All others (who enjoy this new Laphroaig style) should ignore this statement from an old, melancholic whisky drinker that grew up before the whisky boom started, please!

Blind Aroma: Light smoke, sweetish, fruity, spicy, note of methanol taste Some smoke, great sweetish spice, wood finish Medium length, spicy, slightly bitter 151022 from 88 to 87
Matured in charred first-fill bourbon casks and in European oak hogsheads
A very round, pleasing and well-balanced filling. I have now tasted them in parallel with An Cuan Mòr and two different 18 year olds (old label / new label). A certain similarity to the An Cuan Mòr is certainly present, may not be surprising, after all, both come from Laphroaig and have the same barrel combination. However, this one is much stronger and in my opinion even better in balance. The departure of the 1815 is shorter, but more spectacular. The smoke here is much stronger again and has a different, for Laphroaig rather untypical profile. The two 18s, however, he can not even begin to oppose something, both seem much more mature, are stronger and especially the old is just complete. However, he is much closer than the An Cuan Mòr. A very successful NAS bottling, which, like the Lore shows, that whiskys without age are not necessarily young.
It's ok, like a lot of young peaty whiskies can be ok or even very good. Problem is of course the ridiculous price tag for this dram. It's just lots of smoke with lots of wood spices which is dissapointing for an 80+ euro bottling.

Delicious smoky whisky, but not particularly memorable.
Tasty, but clearly too expensive
Nose: Delicate, pleasant smoke, a touch of hospital, iodine, sea salt, delicate salty caramel, vanilla pudding with blueberry juice, sweet fruit, dried fruit, citrus, yeast cake with red fruit. Taste: Peat smoke, caramel, dark fruit, dried fruit, ash, spices, cinnamon, ginger. Finish: medium - short, dry, smoky, spices, ginger, tart wood, citrus zest. The coolest thing about it is that you don't feel alcohol at all, nothing bothers you, nothing bites, it's really wow! The nose at 88, the taste at 87 and the finish at 86 so I'll go ahead and give you 87.00.
Disappointing... Quite young, aggressive, and no complexity compared to 10yo standard... There is no reason to pay such money

gentle Laphroaig. that's what came to my mind first. seaweed, salty, peat and some cold ashes as well. but also sweet, malty and hints of fruit. Extremly easy to drink, ABV is well integrated, allthough so mild to drink that is some fine and long finish, peat and seaweed mingle nicely. Overall quite a fine Laphroaig. Not a fierce monster like the 10yo CS but really nice!

A very simple, even primitive release. For a good, but quite sharp aroma, the taste and finish are a failure. Lots of bitterness, slight alcohol, the smokiness of the aroma almost disappears by the finish. Weak, very weak.

I simply love Laphroaig. My first ever whisky was a Laphroaig 10y old. Since then I'm hooked and I try to taste as many of them as possible :-) I often read about the 'bad years' of Laphroaig (since 2010-till present). Don't know if it's true or not... I had my first Laphroaig in 2016... So, unfortunately I don't know how the 'great' bottles of the past must have tasted. I'm curious and I hope to compare one day. But, about this flask: In my opinion the 1815 is a great whisky! Young. True. Tannines. True. But also sharp, elegant, bittersweet. I love the peppery nose with pork sausages, smoke and kippery elements. The taste is nice, really sweaty and sweet and smoky, flirting with apothecary vibes. Finish is long and bittersweet.

This expression by Laphroaig is (in my opinion) a mixture of An Cuan Mòr and Lore. No special direction but some sweet fruity components taking the lead. Concerning price/performance ratio: 7/10
Pretty late to taste a sample of this NAS Laphroaig. It's got a salty mediterranean nose, ashes and smoke. The first sip punches your tongue with ashes iodine and wood spices. It's pretty dry. Second sip wood spices and iodine and smoke. Not much more to come out of this dram. Leave it for a while do something else. Come back to drink it. It hasn't changed much. Not very well rounded just a bully trying to punch you in the face but not quite hitting it. At least the old 10 year old or the 10 year cask strength know how to knock you out and we love them for that. Their NAS little brother is just a wannabe no one likes to be around him as it seems from previous ratings.

I tasted the sample imported from the Whisky Festival 2017. I directly compared Bowmore with 18 yo and it was a perfect match. Both are good whiskys.
Blind tasted on 02-26-2022. 88/89
This was an overall excellent dram. The nose started out almost blah, but then I just couldn’t stop sniffing it. It evolved and the different aromas danced around each other wonderfully. The taste is strong, but not much is going on. It’s mostly dry and woody, the smoke is an afterthought. The finish brings everything back to form, though. This was a real trip I’m glad I took.

A very sweet and smoky edition from Laphroaig. Well rounded honest and for the price it’s not great value. In my view the rendition is better than the Lore delivers a true Laphroaig character and if you like your peaty whiskies on the sweeter side, this one is a winner.

In my opinion, one of the better NAS from Laphroaig. That's what a stinker should be like. In April 2024 the bottle is almost empty...
Fine dram. No where near 10 yo cask strength, so in that sense it is too expensive but compared to the general market I will say it is worth the money but absolutely not more. How Serge could give it 72 beats me. But hey, taste is subjective.
They prepped up with sherry, and it turned out not bad, pretty) I leveled head-on with 10, my beloved, and here is the case when stylistically the samples are different, but both are good. 10 is more strict, 1815 Legacy Edishn is sweeter, but quite collected, balanced, where there are three woods, qa helmet, quarter helmet ... And here the yummy came out quite well, it's a pity that there is no information about the barrels, to see something matured and solid they mixed, in general, and the price seems to speak for itself! delicious! I advise!
Nice and tasty version of Laphroaig. I found it smoother than classic Laphroaig 10 but more complex and bold at the same time. Good taste, good balance, good drams!

Serge effect or not, this one does not reach any wuthering heights....
Room temperature when drinking: 16 ℃ Viewing Eyes: golden yellow Wenxiang Nose: The first stage is medical alcohol, green grapes, partly fermented dough, peat appears as disinfectant and bandage. In the middle is sea salt, cream cake, dried cranberries, and peat appears as thick smoked bacon. At the end are juicy melons such as honeydew melons, ripe green fruits, and slightly fermented fruit acids that are pleasing. Freshly baked biscuits give it a grainy aroma, and peat appears as dense black smoke and ash. The grease feels sufficient and has a certain consistency, and the peat performance is quite pleasant. The combination of smelling honeydew melon and ham has a solid foundation, as if I were seeing the waves beating Haiyan effectively. Taste Palate: The entrance is sweet melons, cucumbers and other melons, horse milk, green. . In the middle is the pleasant acidity of lime and the spiciness of pepper. At the end is the bitter taste of disinfectant water, plant ash, alkali, and tablets. Finish: Long, extremely numb, and the tongue has lost consciousness. Smoked bacon, sea water, bacon, coke, weak green grape juice Body: Medium, with a strong sense of oiliness and wrapping, slightly salty, smooth and dense, medium acidity, with a bit of bitterness. Nose: 88/100 Palate: 87/100 Finish: 86/100 Body: 87/100 Overall: 87/100 Overall: The smell and taste match each other. The sweet melon at the beginning of the entrance is particularly charming, and the body is also my favorite type.
The nose starts out unusually creamy for a Laphi, with a medium-strong fruitiness, the medicinal and maritime note is not as pronounced as with its brothers, here it seems a bit more accessible. Full and round in the mouth with a slightly acidic fruitiness. The finish is very fruity, creamy and maritime. With and with a note of chocolate lays over it. Length: 7/10 Overall great Laphi, who doesn't seem as wild as his brothers, for me one of the better ones in the core range. Grade: 2+

A very adult, balanced Laphroaig that has it all. Adult and calm. The nose is deep and arouses curiosity without smacking the smoke. In the mouth it plays with sweetness and wood, has spiciness, but here too it is balanced and round. In the aftermath, the smoke pushes again and the aroma also lasts for a long time. As long as it is always available for less than 70 €, it should keep its place on my shelf forever.

This is the same juice as An Cuan Mor. Tasted side by side and found only minor variations. Its quite tasty but very expensive for what it is. Very dissapointing. 86 points for the taste. 0 points for the bullsh*t that they market this as a new product when its in fact only a new packaging. I paid 100€ for this marketing stunt. This really is a nice whisky. A friend brought a bottle back from a trip to England and I was the fortunate recipient. The color on this one is a deeper red than normal bottlings from this distillery.
