Есть и заметно негативные оценки: «disgusting spirit with stench of decaying eggs» (r7), «Very bad» (r13), «Shallow whisky» (r25), жалобы на серные/неприятные ноты (r47, r49, r56).

Pretty flat for me, but not bad at all.
The predecessor was not the best, but still worlds better. Had this version in the blind tasting today. Nose okay. Taste - yes what can I say. Very thin. Finish somewhere between nonexistent and very short. A pity
Little deep. Oak and nut dominate.
disgusting spirit with stench of decaying eggs and taste of cheap ruski vodka.
There's not much to write about, far too watery, boring. The finish is extremely short. You should save the money for this Auchentoshan. It's better to add around €15-20 and buy a reasonable non-smokey standard whisky. They're available at Bunnahabhain, Glendronach, Aberlour, Balvenie, etc.

It was a fine whisky. It was on discount so I bought to try it. Not a seasoned whisky drinker. So take this review with a grain of salt. Nose was not very complex. Couldn’t take any spesific notes. Also finish was very weak and short. Taste on the other hand was very delicate and round. I would I buy it again? Yes, but just for trying it again. Because I’m not pleased with it.
i am a big fan of the older Auchentoshan offerings like the 10,12 and 21 year but this is on the poor side in my view. It has a manufactured taste like lots of fake sweetness added to it and i also think there is some colouring added. This is not representative of the Lowland style, it just tastes like entry level fodder, Auchentoshan as one of the few Lowland distilleries left, it needs to put out better whisky than this. It reminded me of poor relation of the budget Tamnavulin sherry cask but not as good?

A spicy-sweet and quite tasty whisky that I find pleasant to drink and enjoy.
Thanks to triple distillation, it is very light, slightly sweet, with notes of vanilla and tangerines. Subtly honey and slightly spicy.

very good value For money
Tasted blind: unpeated, amber-orange. Nose is directly outspoken: malt, salty, sea, wood, a bit of rot, a little bit creamy, a bit of dried fruit/raisins. Interesting but not my style. Taste is more subtle: fresh, soft, slightly astringent (European oak?). Very hard to evaluate and judge. Post-reveal: never had an Auchentoshan before, interesting for sure, not that expensive either!

The price is nice but you may get more taste out of some blend of equal value. Tasted in the following lineup: Auchentoshan Select old label, bot. 1990s? (65 pts.), Auchentoshan American Oak (72), Auchentoshan 10yo bot. 1990s (76), Auchentoshan 12yo QE2 (78), Auchentoshan 12yo bot. 2023 (71), Auchentoshan Three Wood bot. 2000s (76), Auchentoshan Three Wood bot. 2023 (71), Auchentoshan 21yo bot. 1990s (79), Auchentoshan 21yo bot. 2020s Limited Release label without 'A' (82), Auchentoshan 21yo Limited A Release label 2019 (81), Auchentoshan 22yo decanter 1990s (75), Auchentoshan 25yo decanter 1990s (83). Boy am I ever glad that ocean of Auchentoshan was all 40-43%. I might have drowned in it otherwise. If there are any conclusions to be drawn from this tasting, they are: 1) Auchentoshan's cask policy seems to have for a long time been to go cheap. The 1990s bottlings carry a clear sulfur taint from their sherry casks, and the new bottlings have a lot of planky oak and wood spices. 2) This is priced like a single malt but drinks like a single grain. This is unfortunately underscored by the over 20yo bottles where the spirit has mellowed out with time but hasn't developed any additional complexity and as such their around €200 or higher price tag isn't in any way warranted. 3) This distillery may be best enjoyed through the IBs now.
The Auchentoshan 12 is a fairly average single malt. It doesn't do much wrong, but it doesn't leave a lasting impression. The triple distillation makes it a smooth, pleasant-to-drink whisky. It's a nice whisky for beginners.

The nose is very pleasantly fruity. Apples, apricots, honey and caramel, a touch of lemon and a hint of malt. A floral, slightly grassy note is noticeable. The sherry influence brings somewhat darker notes. |

For a long time, alongside the Glenkinchie distillery near Edinburgh, Auchentoshan was the most representative of whisky from the Lowlands. Due to its triple distillation, which is more common in Ireland, the milder and softer bottlings from the "corner of the field" (literal translation of Auchentoshan from Gaelic) were considered the perfect entry-level whisky. And so I too hoped that I had made a good choice when I bought the 12-year-old standard. But can you really still recommend it so unreservedly? 40 percent by volume. Colored. Chill-filtered. So far, so usual in this price segment. We don't really talk about packaging. But here I'll do it anyway and describe it as ugly as hell. But I'm not part of the supposed target audience either, as I'm neither young nor urban. And now for the contents. Aroma: In fact, as advertised on the packaging, it is definitely not one-dimensional, but without finding the balance that the 12-year-old (if you believe connoisseurs of older bottlings) used to have. Now the bitter tartness of the oak dominates, giving the whole thing a dark basic tone. Behind a lot of Ikea cupboard wood, I catch traces of unripe pear and nuts - and with a lot of imagination, the fruity influence of the sherry casks. What is noticeable: the longer the bottle is open and in contact with air, the rounder the nose - but without really impressing. Taste: To a lesser extent, it continues what the nose promises - and therefore does not do justice to the advertising. The whisky is not mild or soft at any point. The alcohol is well integrated (which can be different with triple distilled whiskies), but the barrel spice of the oak (I suspect young wood) leaves a citrusy, bitter note on the tongue. This is not a drop that you really want to have in your mouth for 12 seconds. Also because other aromas, such as a certain nuttiness, cannot prevail here. By the way: As with the nose, the taste also improves a little when the bottle is open for longer and the fill level is no longer so high. Finish: Very short to short. The initial, almost berry-like sweetness (does the sherry dare to come out here?) immediately gives way to a woody, spicy dryness and the already familiar nuts. The 40% alcohol by volume leaves no noticeable impression. Conclusion: The opposite of art is well-intentioned. Although the Auchentoshan 12 has no off notes, it irons out its already thin distillery character due to triple distillation with so many wood aromas that only Pinocchio or Meister Eder would like it. The barrel or barrels are simply too present, which is why pure enjoyment of this whisky - even for a beginner - is not really recommended at the moment. There are better single malts out there, even for less money. It's a shame, because the hymns of praise for the bottlings of the past indicate that the spirit itself has potential.

In the nose and taste, the ex-bourbon character is clearly in the foreground for me. This whisky may have stood next to a sherry barrel, but he didn't get much of it. Standard whisky for beginners - a bit disappointing for a 12-year-old whisky, there could have been more -> where are sherry notes, please? 25 euros are ok, you shouldn't have to spend more for it. Somehow it reminds me of the Tullibardine 228, but much better than the Tullibardine. [75 - 71 = above average -> maybe for an every day dram]

"Delicate and Layered" in the sense of "the sweetness covers everything" - you don't have to like it, but you can. Not bad for beginners or as a dessert.

Overall, very sweet, intensely sweet fruits, pleasant and soft. The sweetness is predominant. Basically impressive what you can conjure up for 12 years and with 40% in the bottle, but the Auchentoshan already borders on too much sweetness. Almost pushy. Great for beginners, price fits. Easy drinking, but because of the sweetness definitely nothing for every day.

When I drank it at the bar, I could definitely smell the vinegar, but when I bought it in a bottle this time, there was no such smell at all and it was pleasant to drink. Soft finish and fruity aroma In Korea, it is famous for being a whisky that was given as a hostage in the form of one box for every bottle of Macallan 12 Sherry.

Nose: Honey, apple, something off-putting in the sherry (ammonia-like smell), acidity (not citrus), grape, medicinal herbs, wood The aroma has a bourbon cask base, overlaid with a twisted sherry note as if it was brought back from the underworld. This might be where Auchentoshan’s notorious reputation stems from. After the unsettling sherry note passes, you get a blend of sweetness and tanginess, red grapes, medicinal herbal notes, and wood. |

Palate: Apple, bitterness, grape, grape seed, wood The ominous sherry note from the nose is barely present on the palate. As soon as the whisky touches the tongue, it creates a drying sensation, with almost no trace of the initial sweetness from the nose. This is a very dry whisky, with only faint hints of apple and honey. The dominant flavor is a bitterness reminiscent of biting into fruit skins or seeds. There are subtle notes of red grape and a woody character that add to the overall profile. |

Auchentochan 12 vs Glenkinchie 12 First acquaintance with the region, distilleries. FRAGRANCE. The scent is light in both. Even extremely light. All the same, triple distillation is audible. In Glenkinchy, it is somehow more interesting, more diverse, in Ahentoshena everything is straightforward and simple. TASTE. It is empty, which is not good or bad for a given product, if we take into account the industry of production, price, degree. AFTERTASTE. Blurry, akentoshen in general, emptiness, mixed with unpleasant moments. Ch. even more or less. OUTPUT. Weak ... now, maybe a couple of years ago it would have been more interesting, working fluid, to get acquainted with the region, distillery, for show, as I did in principle. Good whisky for reasonable price. Nose: cooked fruits (stew or compote), cherries, strawberries, caramel, touch of wood and beeswax Taste: fruity including both cooked and dried Finish: short, but spicy and a bit salty
On the nose it starts off sweet and orange-fruity with tangerines and some damp cardboard. In the mouth it is very mild but still sufficiently strong with a slight spice, which intensifies strongly in the finish and is again underlined by the fruit from the nose. Length: 3/10 Overall, a little too much damp wood for my taste, but otherwise solid malt. Grade: 2

Even with triple distillation, it is felt that the purification from sulfur compounds is very poor, and there is not enough long-term contact with copper. Sulfur off-notes are observed in a fresh glass, and fortunately, they disappear quite quickly over time. Overall, the whisky is still quite drinkable and I fully admit that you can drink it without taking shots. Also noticeable is a strong drop in quality compared to the previous edition. Unlike the previous version, there is no sherry presence at all, but only trace amounts of woodiness closer to the aftertaste. 18 20 20 16
