[November, 2014]  I had this dram during a FoSM club tasting.In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 85.  I took no detailed notes.

Since Serge has rated it consistently at 90pts for the recent batch, I thought it will be interesting to re-visit this as I believe this is one of the most bang for your bucks 10-year-old in the market. I'm trying a more recent batch here. I think this deserves a big 90pts if you consider price in the rating. It's just a perfect 10YO like the Springbank 10 or Benromach 10.

Нос 88 A lot more smokier and pungent, compared to what I had a few years back, and the maritime notes are more powerful as well. I have to say it is really nice, and the most beautiful thing is its simplicity - powerful, smoky, briney and coastal. That's all you want from a basic Talisker. Nothing to fancy, but the essential parts are just perfectly blended together on the nose. It's also rather sweet with a surprising fruitiness. Good job Diageo.
Вкус 87 Not as powerful as the nose, but still a good arrival with big dash of saltiness and peppery attacking your tongue. Nice viscosity as well. White pepper becomes more apparent, with some minerals and a bit of candy sweetness. Some minty notes as well.
Финиш 88 Faint smokiness, with saltiness and peppery playing all the way from start to finish. Rather long finish for a 10yo.

Black pepper. Red chillies. Caramel. Orange cream biscuits. Barley sugar. Chocolate. Sweet peat. Then you add water and fruits are revealed. Pears, fresh oranges and sour apples. Some tropical fruits too. Distinctive and delicious.

The nose isn't very convincing but the taste makes up for it and then some. Hands down my favorite "daily dram". Such a well balanced, complex taste and mouth feel. Great drinking experience.

You have to stop with caramel, the color has become artificial, and this talisker has lost compared to previous versions ... we are on a product more consensual, easy, close to the storm. Too bad, talisker also loses some of its identity with these new versions.

After Lagavulin 16y this is the best of the classic single malts, but that is my opinion as a turf enthusiast. Talisker is in my top 10 of the distilleries anyway.

Insanely complex for 10 years, constantly discovering new, extremely delicious, the pepper can disturb beginners, as better to grab a HP 12 or Bunna 12 first. Tip: leave open bottle 2.3 months, which wins tremendously!

The nose was a bit disappointing (was it the influence of the caramel?), but the taste and the finish are incredible. The salt and peat are present, but in a more modest way than you will taste from the Islay-whiskies. The signature of Talisker, the pepper is obviously present!

He is often and often highly praised, for me it is "only" a good 10 year old. Not bad but nothing special for me. Had him like to graduate after a hearty meal such. Goulash or beef roulades, because he fits wonderfully. The bottle is now empty, will not be rebuilt, let's see how the DE will beat.

- significantly better than SKYE, STORM and DARK STORM - distinctive peppery note - by far the best 10 y. Standard whisky I know - in comparison, significantly better than its successor from 2021 (unfortunately a loss of quality can also be seen here)

Нос 87 Much more salty than peaty, I love it. Seabreeze, seaweed, grilled meat and some bbq smoke behind, grapefruit, honey, lemon, vanilla, slightly medicina on the background. After some minutes on the glass appears the aroma of peated barley. Complex for its age, you can sit down and enjoy it for several time.
Вкус 85 It lacks a bit of body. Still on the salt and green side, tons of seaweed. Medicine cabinet still there, oaky, vanilla, grapefruit. After some sips a touch of white pepper starts to arrive.
Финиш 83 Medium to short finish. Some extinguished coal bbq fire flavours.

Touch of sea and smoke, barley honey and salty mix. Slight bitter prickly notes which I can’t place, maybe inferior cask or something in production process, but not to distracting. A few drops of water takes out the bitterness and brings out sweeter notes. I enjoyed this one but found the parley better.

This Talisker is round, has a certain oiliness and a steady arrival and is consistent on the palate. It's fresh and at the same time offers a certain deepness. Not too complex, but I think really great value for money. It certainly has atmosphere and to me is a classic I like coming back to from time to time.

"It was better before" ..... pfffff .... I do not know, I had to be 7 or 8 years old at the Epoch Times. By cons, what I know: this whisky really has its paw, and propelled me into the world of mustaches. To you, connoisseur of malts and its history, I teach you nothing. To you, a novice whisky researcher who is wondering where to start, or who has heard of it, but who knows not too much .... do not look anymore, well, if you keep looking, but for 30 €, you have no right to let this one pass.

N: An old favourite for many of us, but tasted blind how will it fair? Guesses from the group start with Ardbeg and deliberate around Ardmore or Ledaig once islay has been ruled out. I nosed Icing-sugar lemon and peat, lots of peat with some sherry, but we are all convinced it's either Islay or a familiar peated mainlander. T: Burned, charred, woody lemon oak with a thinness to its body but a subtle strength and complexity - it wont be Ladyburn. After a mild fresh breeze and a little stagnant movement it moves right along. F: Grainy oak, always true to the distillate. A dry conclusion, neither definitely smokey or peaty but something in between. C: With a subtle strength at its core, we were all rather perplexed and confused to be told it as Talisker. It's not what I associate with this great standard dram. Next up, no. 6: WB Scores a B-

Famous for its 'chili catch', Talisker 10 from the Isle of Skye is said to be 'made by the sea' - a suitable analogy. Its mineral, phenolic nose reminds of fresh, salty seawater with iodine and seaweed. A light sweetness of citrus fruits combines with restrained peatiness. The arrival is strong with a rich note of malted barley and dried fruits, leaving a peppery chili burn on the palate. A real 'afterburner' that finishes pleasantly warming, briny and spicy. The only downside is the excessive addition of artificial colorant (E150a), combined with heavy chill-filtration. RATING: 4.0/5.0 stars ≙ 87 pts → FIRST-CLASS

Yes, it has changed quite noticeably since the time I had been tasted it. Changes are evident and much perceptable. New Talisker has different, contemporary aspects to it, it's far less peppery now, less robust, and I can't say it's good or it is not good. But, either way, I can not say I like it better as compared to old style. The previous one is more to my liking.

Serge: Talisker 10 yo (45.8%, OB, +/-2014) Colour: gold. Nose: better rounded, and rather more herbal than I remembered. Caraway, cumin… Then more damp chalk and clay, antiseptic, braking fluid, creosote, notes of overripe oranges, bandages, oysters ‘from yesterday’… There is some wildness, and yet it’s clean and precise spirit. Love it. Always loved it. Mouth: amazing. Everything’s perfect. Lemon, wet clothes, raw wool, grains, porridge (not my favourite food, though), pepper, some kind of green curry, seaweed (the stuff our Japanese friends serve as salad, the name escapes me)… Frankly, this is great whisky. Finish: long, salty, clean, and yet complex, and yet finely delimited (what?) Comments: bang for your buck! Having said that, I’m feeling that Talisker’s becoming more medicinal these days. And maybe peatier again. Nice cure, nice cure. SGP:367 - 91 points.

The mouth feel is pleasantly bodied and creamy and the finish lasts form spans a minute or more. For a 10 year old, this is surprisingly approachable and engaging. If you're testing the waters of peat and haven't been scared off by lightly peated whiskies, this is a good middle ground malt.

Нос 85 Everything very far on the ground with spicy wood notes. Slightly malty lemon and some sea breeze.
Вкус 87 Balanced is clearly anderst. But everything that has promised to nose, he's on the palate full on it. He knows how to assert himself. Even a little oily fruity. Respect.
Финиш 84 Medium to rather short. Now it is clear that he is too young for top marks. Still, he picked me up. Thank you.

Extremely well priced daily whisky full of maritime notes and peat. Sadly it is chill-filtered and artificially coloured. Its sweetness is sometimes slightly artificial as well though. And that puts me off a little. For its price this really is a great daily dram. The one litre bottle would be my preferred to buy for bigger groups.

Maybe just a tad thin on the palate for mouthfeel but I’m probably stretching to find something to fault. In the nose Laphroaig Triple Wood in less intense: slightly maritime smoke, slightly sweet, relatively light. Relatively simple but not unattractive. Creamy-sweet and slightly vanilla in the mouth. Unfortunately also a bit thin. In the finish a flood of light, green fruits, some lemon and light oak notes (coffee). Compared to typical Islay representatives, hardly any ash. The charismatic Talisker Chili Catch is there, but also rather restrained. Length: 4/10 As a standard to start with smoky malts, certainly due to the PLV, an institution. Unfortunately, too little complex and voluminous for the ambitious connoisseur. I would rather go for the Islay representatives or the Distillers Edition. Grade: 2+

very mature for his ten years. Not overly complicated but quite complete. As everyday dram almost too much of a good thing. The chilli-catch and the smoke may not be for everyone, but they're both not overly strong enough to knock you out. Maybe a good whisky to try.

Tasting notes from 09/01/2015. Alternative tasting notes (date unknown): Nose: salty, vanilla, citrus, slightly nutmeg? Surprisingly fresh. Taste: nice round Talisker; salty (but not as strong as in the smell), tingling on the side of the tongue, nice balance between fruit and smokiness. Light creamy texture. Finish: Reasonably long aftertaste in the back of the palate. (80 points)

Dress: caramel Nose: Saline, mineral, herbaceous. It is very fresh, with a rounder and softer bottom; Palate: Creamy and round texture, sweet and smoky. Final: smoke, sweet and warm. A very balanced whisky, with a nice typical nose. Excellent report Q / P whose disappearance of our rays is to regret :(

A great standard whisky at a low price, which also has a lot of independence (Talisker anyway). You can relax and drink on the couch or take it apart, the aromas are relatively easy to grasp.

Нос 85 Nice and light fruity, apples, pears, apricots and citrus fruits, plus a light smoke. Some vanilla and caramel and nice and spicy (salt and pepper). The whole thing has a slightly medicinal touch. Like it.
Вкус 83 In the mouth, the whisky starts out minerally with light smoke, salt, pepper and a little citrus, the remaining fruit from the nose fades into the background. But it is also nice and creamy, almost soft, with great caramel notes. The alcohol is perfectly integrated, almost too pleasant.
Финиш 83 Long, creamy finish, sweet and sour, smoky and spicy.

Granted you get a good or great batch (which is imho more often the case than not), this one is excellent for a 10 yo. Forget Skye and Storm, for some variation or added refinement/finess get Port Ruighe, DE, and 18, but on a good day the 10 does not fall behind its older siblings. Always one to have at home, like Laga 16, too, imho.

A classic, complex and fantastic taste experience that only Talisker can conjure up. Talisker 10 will always be one of my favorites. It should be found in every bar cabinet and every spirits collection of two or more bottles.

Нос 86 Feels appetizing and warm in the nose with just a little alcohol. At first you smell sour soot and smoke as well as bitter spices dominated by pepper. After some time, it is mixed with sweet malt, a little dried fruit and a touch of chocolate. Wonderful and complex.
Вкус 85 The taste is soft with dryness and some alcohol. The taste is dominated by dry and bitter malt seasoned with smoke, salt and seaweed. Sweet fruits and a little chocolate fight their way through, along with delicate hints of citrus.
Финиш 87 Softness and sweetness slowly transform into salt and bitterness, while heat spreads in the mouth and down the throat. After a while, smoke and salt intensify in a wonderful combination, and this fine finish lingers for a very long time.

If you can overlook the color adulteration typical of Diageo, then this is one of the nicer older bottlings of Talisker 10 that still had some character and a certain recognizability. It's no comparison to the current, inferior bottlings.

In the comparative experiment earlier / today I was most looking forward to the comparison of a current and an older Talisker 10. And it was also the Talisker 10 that had the biggest differences in my comparison. Bud smells the Lukas and offers a more varied spectrum of flavors. Terence does a good job, but not outstanding. It would be nice if Bud was a current issue of the Tali 10 ... My tip is different, because in the past everything was better. :-)

Matured in American oak casks, likely ex-bourbon and ex-sherry. Slow thick dense legs, shedding into thin long ones. Midsize slow secondary legs. Rare trailing droplets. Coloured and chill-filtered. A drop of water introduces malty, spicy, and herbal notes on the nose, but restrains smoke. It also smooths the palate, bringing fruitiness, sweetness, and maltiness to the fore. A classical single malt to be savoured.

Enjoyable and good at what it does, if but a bit one-dimensional. It doesn't get any more peppery than this. The peat is active too, perhaps more so than when I had it 4 years ago. But frankly I don't get a whole lot else out of it. This makes for a great daily drinker if you can get it cheaply as it is in some markets. However I wouldn't go into this expecting lots of complexity.

Talisker 10. This is a distillery I have really struggled with at times. I feel like I should like it based on the peaty coastal promises, and yet every time I drink it I get acrid bitter notes that have a chemical harshness (which presumably what others interpret as the 'chilli catch'. That said, I have enjoyed one or two of their NAS whiskies. It's very much a distillery I approach with trepidation, and I will never throw more than just a couple of quid at trying a dram! June 2018 - A 30ml sample. Really easy going lots of cream soda vanilla in aroma. Taste is similar with lots of smoky warmth. Decent, creamy, cream soda background. (3.3/79) Aug 2018 - A 20cl bottle. Simple aroma. Baked apple aroma with light smoke. Taste is spicy, smoked, briney. OK. (3.2/77) Feb 2019 - From a bottle which had been open a while, to hip flask for something to consume at a wedding. The hip flask sipping experience is certainly the most I've got out of this whisky. Suits being consumed from a hip flask outdoors - not being examined in relaxing surroundings (which is how I like to drink my whisky) (3.35/80)

a few drops of water release a pleasant dried fruits sweetness and increase the complexity to the peat smoke, salt, brine and pepper. Perfect balance and one of the best value for your money. The 2012 release improved compared to earlier versions.

A malt that makes one realize that some of them really do make reasonably prized, excellent age-stated core-range malts in these days of hype, overprizing and NAS. Guaranteed experience of pepper, mild & round smoke, a sturdy and full body and a pleasant syrupiness. Were it not for the very slight acrid/over-sweet, off-note I associate with the colorant, this would score an 87/88 by me. A character that could well be called a wise man's Port Ellen: something very similar to the OB 3rd and 6th PE-releases. The Ellen's are quite a few categories higher in my book, yes, but they are also two-and-a-half times older and 40-50 times the price at the moment. If you are new to the game and like this, then I would recommend to try also the Distiller's Editions which are pure greatness. All in all real (use)value and (intrinsic)quality for money.

Nice, but the youthfulness & lack of power are noticeable compared to the NAS bombs and the 18s, PLV still fine!

Very enjoyable 10-year-old whisky that is relatively light on peat and thus a good introduction to smoky whiskies. The sweetness keeps it well-balanced and, given some time to breath, the whisky might surprise you with a grassy note. The finish is relatively short, but the nose and taste make up for it. Pleasant throughout.

This is one of those drams that I seemed to like the one day and dislike the other, but I like it more often than dislike. It has it’s flaws and needs alot of air (I didn’t enjoy the neck pour at all), but turns into a wonderful dram which exceeded my expectations.

Нос 84 Briney, caramel, green grapes, red apples, gooseberries, grassy, cinnamon, clove, red wine. Needs time to open up.
Вкус 85 Briney, spicy and waxy. Some stone fruit, tangerine, citrus peel, vanilla, caramel, cinnamon, ginger. Does better with a little water.
Финиш 83 Short to medium and mouth watering, the waxiness lingers with sweet spice taking the lead.

Sturdy basics. To be able to complete such a complex flavor structure in 10 years, and to be able to sell it at a low price, it is really perfect. How exactly did they do it? I believe this bottle of malt is like good news for all whisky drinkers. Thanks to Talisker, I hope this taste can be passed down to future generations and benefit mankind forever. The total taste is 86 points, the price +1 point, a total of 87 points.

A must have. Indeed this is a very singular profile at all levels, indeed some people wont like it, but this is probably why we love it. The most excellent "find it everywhere" entry level whisky along with Lagavulin 16.

Clear yet complex aromas, great taste and unique finish, simply good. Must hide in terms of complexity even from older whiskys, to the departure as an absolute unique selling point.

To me personally, the Talisker 10 is nothing more than just a very simple entry Single Malt Whisky. Yes, it's cheap and widely available but certainly nothing spectacular. The average rating of 85 points is quite exaggerated imho. To me it's not even good enough to be an above average "daily dram". The best thing about this one is its price tag.

The ratio of price performance is amazing is peat, but delicate, supplemented with pepper. I am not surprised at the fact that she has been awarded so much awards, and that she is generally pleased with her. Buy a bottle while they are still.

Colour: Diageo GoldTM (E150a) Body: Full Nose: Woody, quite oily, restrained peat smoke, spice, fruit- artificial lemon, melon, raisin (A little Sherry), vanilla, pine resin, brine, sea spray, seaweed. Water: Spiced rum soaked dried fruit, fruit cake, raisin, shortbread, cola bottles, chocolate powder, some nut. Tonnes of artificial toffee after a bit. Taste: Oily texture, fruity- Great oily lemon note, vanilla, building spice- Ginger, nutmeg and black pepper with wisps of smoke, sea salt, seaweed. Lovely balance. Water: Some chocolate and nut, much more Sherry and raisin. Finish: Medium/long length. Sea spray leads to the classic cracked black pepper kick. With water you get some chocolate.

It seems that with increasing volumes of release and the number of releases, the quality of the source material has fallen on average and this release is an attempt to withstand the brand under new conditions. It turned out approximately as if trying to "improve" a mediocre audio recording with an equalizer shift in all bands.

I do not belong to the Talisker fans. But this 10-year-old Talisker surprised me. For the price of 30 € you get a really good whisky with a light smoky note. Price-performance is top. Also suitable for beginners.

It is difficult to find whisky with a similar experience at the same price. As the whisky I drink is increasing, many entry-level models are rarely drunk, but the Tesca has been kept in the wine cabinet for 10 years. An easily accessible location.
