Starting as ‘White Dog’ before being aged between 6-8 years. N: If no surprises, there’s plenty to like even if the abv holds it back significantly. T: An all-rounder that delivers at its price point. Much preferred over Famous Grouse [WLP78], for example, at a similar premium. F: Form and balance is maintained throughout. C: Buffalo Trace dropped the abv from 45% in 2022. The trick is to add a little of the White Dog [+/-84 points]. Otherwise: 82

First time I did an evaluation suggested by a confrere, like a blind test, without seeing the label beforehand; the result was really cool, because I focused on feelings and not reason. So much so that, in aroma, it seemed to me almost like a scotch in a light sherry, but when drinking it, the palate gave away what it was and, thus, the bourbon aromas started. In fact, it is a pleasant bourbon for everyday life, indispensable, simple on the palate but aromatic, the corn notes are smooth and the alcohol is tamed, I was happy!

Нос 83 Cognac, light acetic, candied fruits, figs in syrup, milk chocolate, very light vanilla and malt. Spicy without being offensive, in the second layer and only after the first sip, did the plastic and corn acetone appear. With water, the spiciness decreases and the sweetness increases, as can the candied fruits and acetone.
Вкус 75 Typical of corn acetone, fruit and brandy came in second place. With water, new wood, pink pepper and corn increase.
Финиш 72 Medium, with acetone and new wood, as well as a fleeting aftertaste of malt and vanilla.

Overall, this Bourbon is not a bad choice in its price range, but I would still tend to favor Buffalo Trace 90 Proof for a few more euros. It's also a pity that it has been reduced to 40% ABV. It lacks a bit of complexity for my taste.

Нос 77 The nose is quite marked with vanilla notes, a hint of caramel, a slight touch of stewed fruit, and a subtly biscuity aroma.
Вкус 77 On the palate, it is the caramel that is most noticeable, a little sweetness accompanying the vanilla. There's a very subtle aftertaste of lightly toasted wood that pairs well with the vanilla. Overall, it's a rather pastry-like bourbon.
Финиш 76 The finish doesn't last very long but opens up to other subtle flavors, slightly woody while still maintaining a caramel aspect.

First impressions: Good beginners whiskey, something to look out for if you're wanting sweet and smooth but straightforward.

Нос 80 Quite closed in the beginning but after a little time in the glass it opens up a little revealing some sweet vanilla notes followed by some wood.
Вкус 82 A bit thin feels watered down and could use with more ABV (I'd like to try the 45% version). Again, very smooth whiskey, very pleasant in the mouth with an only marginal alcoholic bite. Loads of vanilla followed up by oakiness and a hint of spice.
Финиш 83 Rather wood-driven finish with a lingering spiciness, as well as a hint of salt. Medium finish.

The 40% is an "okay" whiskey. I'd consider it a mixer for cocktails rather than drinking it neat.

This light version of Buffalo Trace is an easy drinking bourbon, but lacks some weight. The 45% ABV version is a lot more rounded. Thanks, Pat!

Buffalo Trace is for bourbon what Glenfiddich 12 is for Scotch: it's reliable, widely available and does the job. On the nose, you get the usual suspects - vanilla, honey and some toffee. It's quite floral and sweet with hints of apple juice and wood glue. The taste is spicier and more peppery with vanilla cream, treacle and slightly bitter oak. Shall we say 'smooth and mellow'? Distant notes of almonds, mint and refined sugar remain in the aftertaste. This benchmark bourbon will certainly not blow your socks off, but it's both enjoyable and great value for money. This is one of my low-cost bourbons from one of the most beautiful and professional distillery's. This is the version widely available in Europe (40%), the american version with 90º proof is even better.

I bought the wrong one... The 700ml version is only 40% abv! Should buy the 1000ml version is 45%.... I will definitely remember in the future... The taste becomes watery...the aroma becomes too thin, But even so, The aroma is still better than most 40% whiskies. Still a great whiskey. The taste score is 81 and the price doesn't affect the score.

N: Loads of vanilla bursting immediately with spices. Some cinnamon. Toffee and toasted oak. P: The palate delivers the same notes albeit in a much more muted and toned down version. Overall pleasant and sweet with no off notes. F: Short to medium at best. Sweet and a bit oaky.

Nose: Sweet caramel, cornsirup, vanillafudge. Not much of all and a little on-dimensional but a good introduction of bourbon whiskey. There is some five spices in the background. Initial taste: Classic bourbon, vanilla, toffee, corn and more vanilla. It actually tastes quite simulate as it smells. Hint of citrus. Body: rounded but light. Finish: medium. vanilla and some spices are showing up. and some orange citrus is showing up. a little dry. Price: very good for this quality. Presentation: Decent. Comments: I would recommend this one as a very nice introduction to bourbon whiskey.

Нос 70 Banana, wet oak, blackberry, Demerara sugar, pear, apple. Very young and a bit soapy, but it has things happening.
Вкус 53 Cheapest casks they could find. Astringent. Some vanilla and sweetness. Lots of soap.
Финиш 51 Vodka aged for a few months. Initially bitter. Vanilla, liquorice in the background. Lots of soap. Now I wonder if there was soap in my glass... nope, “treated” myself to more in a glass I knew was safe, the whiskey is the soapy one.

This is an extremely good value whiskey Having tried many other bourbons, many of which alot more expensive, it's up there with the nicest. Good bourbon. On the nose, there's a lot of acetone and some caramel. Palate is sweet, like a freshly baked muffin. Light mouthfeel. Short finish.

Here you get something for your money! For less than 20 euros a great whiskey for in between. Also spicier than some other bourbon. Simply a classic that should not be missing in any collection. Overall very harmonious and mild, despite the disproportionate amount of rye.

Bourbon is usually not my first drinking choice but this is really nice value for the money... Would say have to try few bourbons to appreciate this Bottle needs time to get some air... then it becomes as good as this grade shows...

83/100. An ode to toffee, caramel, vanilla and rye cereal with toasted notes. Notes of spices on the palate, maple syrup, apple cooked with yellow fruit jam, brown candy sugar and a touch of coconut. Peppered glass base, caramel, vanilla and cinnamon. Well done but a bit short. It's a shame it's 40°. At 45° it was longer and more complex with notes of pencil lead and glue.

A beautiful spicy everyday bourbon. The oak is present, no gluey note, slightly fruity and despite the 40% not a bit thin. Maybe one of the best in the price range.

It’s to smack away. A bourbon without the often penetrating glue in the nose. Now not the aroma power in the nose. But he shows what he has beautifully. Surprisingly spicy in the mouth. I might have expected a little more sweetness in the mouth, but the Buffalo Trace is not bad. For just under € 20, that's a more than decent PLV.

Нос 83 The bourbon in the glass shows a rich amber brown. Very delicate fragrance in the glass. The 45% alcohol absolutely doesn't sting your nose. The glue note often seen in bourbon is only subtle, if at all. In addition to lots of vanilla and sweetness, a delicate floral note. Interesting. A little orange is also present.
Вкус 81 Surprisingly spicy! At the beginning it is briefly sweet, then, as I said, it becomes spicy with nutmeg and oak. Not too strong. Pleasant mouthfeel.

Just so drinkable. Fruity, oily and relatively well rounded. Slight alcohol/solvent in the nose at least for me. Still at this price point very much a good find.

Нос 79 Aromas: Very light and pleasant, dominated by notes of vanilla and caramel. Nuances: Touches of citrus, especially orange zest, a hint of oak and spices.
Вкус 83 Light attack, supple and creamy mouthfeel, (40% vol.) Flavors: Dominated by caramel and vanilla. Toffee is the best word, in my opinion, to accurately describe the flavor, with a subtle hint of oak. Complexity: A subtle and harmonious blend of spices (cinnamon, nutmeg) supported by notes of dried fruit.
Финиш 78 Length: Short to medium, soft. Aromatic expression: Evolves from sweet notes of vanilla and caramel perceived on the palate to a drier finish, marked by oak and persistent spices.

I don't drink much bourbon so it's difficult to say whether this is a standard bourbon or not; to me it seems it is. But that spinach at the end: yuk! Tasted 05/05/2016 in a bourbon line-up.

One of the best and easily available bourbons on market for the price. Almost indistinguishable from the age statement variety, eagle rare (10 year). The only real difference is Buffalo is sweeter and less floral and almost always cheaper!

Нос 82 Sweet, volatile and relatively full. Caramel dominates, then vanilla. There are some varnishes. Corn. Then a little honey comes out. Minimal spiceiness with a deep breath.
Вкус 80 Sweet, caramel, but a little less sweet than on the nose. A little more spice appears. Light oak. Corn. There are traces of varnish. The taste becomes drier over time.
Финиш 78 Sweetness, caramel, warms you up a bit. Then caramel again, light spice on the tongue. Quite a short finish.

Great Bourbon for the price
