The bourbon influence is a bit too much for my taste, in between the sherry goes under. In fact, I had hoped for more fruit, which came up a bit short. Still, a great 12-year-old that you can remember. For the full review, go here: https://keinehalbendrinks.de/2023/02/27/drei-rotkehlchen/

Very similar notes to the 40% version, but there's a subtle cardboard note, which I don't like that much (but it is very subtle). Due to the alcohol, all notes of peaches, biscuits, and fruitiness are much more pronounced. Lemon peel is present here but not in the 40% version, very interestingly integrated. The lemon acid is not noticeable at all. On the second pass of the lineup, however, it holds much better than the 40% version, the fruitiness is there, and the biscuit is there. After an hour in the glass, there are also notes of cherries, or cherry liqeur chocolates. |

At first sip, noticeably better than 40% version. Perceptible strength, pleasant notes of dried fruit, vanilla, orange (with the addition of peel, and slight bitterness), and a light hint of caramel. |

Mint, but more polished than the 40% version, accompanied by a sweet bitterness of wood that is not too strong, and nicely complements the mint. |
A bit engineered for me, feels very modern and cask-blasted. Fans of bourbon and rye may enjoy the big time oak more than I did, however. Not bad whiskey, but a bit fatiguing for me.

Woodshop, cedar, sawdust, sour oak. Lime candies, grilled citrus, little bit of balsamic. Faint kind of gingerbread impression, little bit of hazelnut, a little bit of estery raspberry and glue. It’s a nice nose but damn it bites, needs some real time to breathe. Water brings out some softer fruits, like pineapple dusted with Tajin, but that spicy oak still dominates. |

Hmm, very casky… big bourbon spices (vanilla, pepper, cinnamon), big modern sherry (berries, red fruit, some rubber, some cinnamon chewing gum). Very "angular." Water brings, again, a little pineapple but it never gets fully tropical, the core here remains firmly oaky and cask-driven. |

Redbreast 12 Years Cask Strength, 56.3% alc. Original bottling (2021, batch B1/21). Ageing: Bourbon and Sherry casks Nose: Aromatic, intense, spicy. First I smell rum balls, followed by peach liqueur and coffee chocolate. Then the Redbreast becomes fruitier, pear and mango appear, some honeydew melon and banana. Towards the end, parsley and damp oak emerge, as well as some tree sap and vanilla. Palate: Intense, full-bodied, powerful. The alcohol pushes pretty hard here. Assorted fruit in chocolate fondue, butter biscuits and vanilla biscuits. In addition, dried apricots, milk coffee and ginger, cold metal and a slight sharpness are evidence of the cask strength. Finish: Medium length, some caramel and mint chocolate. Conclusion: Similar to the drinking strength version only in the basics and sometimes seems like a completely different whiskey to me. A cask strength is always an enrichment. 85/100 points (2022)
Harmonious and mild without being boring. Unfortunately, he does not bring more complex notes with him, but what he has is good - especially in the nose. Lots of parallels to Batch B2/19.
Well matured Irish whiskey with very oily and intense tropical aromas. Without varnish notes I would have rated 90. Nonetheless it's very solid whiskey considering its price.

After I really liked the 12yo Standard Redbreast as a Scotch fan, the CS bottling ended up on my wish list. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I'm a little disappointed here. Without the addition of water it is alcoholically spicy. Taming it requires a few drops of water. Then it is a solid bottling that combines ExBC and sherry. But unfortunately nothing more. Maybe my expectations were just too high.

Quick hit review. It's hard to find an Irish whiskey with a craft presentation, so this is as good as it gets. On the nose, whiffs of lime juice, peach and sawdust mix with wood spices, black pepper and grass. Fruity-sweet and floral, the taste convinces with gingerbread, green apples and balanced oak notes. The cask strength ensures a long and satisfying finish. You can't go wrong with this Redbreast, it's good value for money! RATING: 4.0/5.0 stars ≙ 87 pts → FIRST-CLASS

Redbreast 12 YO Cask Strength Country of origin: Ireland Category: Single Pot Still Distillery : New Middleton (Pernod Ricard) Distillation: triple Barrels: ex-bourbon + ex-sherry Aging period: 12 years Filtration: none Dye: no Fortress: 56.3% (cask) Volume: 700 ml Bottling date: 03/02/2021 Batch number: B1/21 Nose. Apricot jam with stone, light raisins and dried apricots, dates, quiche, yellow apples and pears, dried banana, papaya, mango, redcurrant and cherry jam, toffee, milk chocolate, almonds, lemon peel, furniture varnish, muesli, oatmeal, vanilla, nutmeg. Typical Irish light, "light", vanilla-fruity nose with a slight point. It takes enough time to remove the light alcohol harshness and reveal the aroma to the fullest. Taste. Sweet. A wealth of yellow fruits, dried fruits, jam, toffee, vanilla. Some salted almonds. Creamy creamy silk texture in the first layer. But then comes a rather strong burning sensation of spices. At first it seemed excessive to me, but then, it seems, I got used to it and is already perceived normally. Well, that spicy edge is said to be a hallmark of the Pot Still Whiskey style, so we take it for what it is. In the end, without bitterness at all, it would be liquor at all, and we don’t drink liquors. And with water and without water is perceived with a bang. The taste is not very multifaceted and complex, but it is very bright, intense, "sunny". Aftertaste. Long. Dryish. Concentrated fruit and dried fruit syrup, vanilla, nutmeg. Outcome. Really high-quality Irish whiskey, allowing you to get acquainted with the style of Pot Still Whiskey. Light (if you are used to barrel aging, otherwise just dilute with water), fruity, vanilla, well balanced. Bright, unique and interesting in its own way, but still not as versatile as other Scots and also very expensive for us, especially now. Rating: 86 out of 100.

tasting 2024/3/26 Nose- Alcohol, acetone, mangosteen (grass + sherry cask's unique fig-like scent, honey, weak apple, something unspeakable and musty smell. At first, a bad scent mixed with alcohol acetone and a stale smell prevails. Give me a few drops of water and some time, and the notes mentioned above slowly appear. Personally, I thought of a gold spot a lot, but the gold spot has a much stronger scent of grass and acetone. There are often reviews that it's a lai whiskey. However, I think Redbrest is properly restrained. The smell is not so bright as a whole, but it feels like it's been sprayed with a lot of sticky and cloudy things. Palette - fig. White fruit like mangosteen, honey. Rich, etc. Rusty, some apples. It tastes good. It tastes the same as nose. It has a slippery texture and sweetness that you don't know if it's unique to Irish. I personally really like it. Finish - fig honey rich, same as pallet. Not strong. Passed by in a flash. Personally, I don't think it's a bad idea to put in a bottle if I can get it cheaply. If you don't like something sticky and slippery, you might not like it.

I've had the "normal" 12YO and found it to be an OK slightly above average Irish. Getting it at cask strength raised it to another level. The lighter profile of Irish needs this extra punch to be interesting, and if it gets too hot you always got the option to water it down yourself.

I have to admit, I love the Redbreast 21. This batch of the 12CS clearly has the same DNA. A little less tropical fruit like mango, papaya and honeymelon but more punch. Like the previous batch, it needs a bit of a nose to get going. You can speed up this procedure by adding a few drops of water, but it doesn't have to be, giving time is also sufficient. And when the necessary time has passed, it really revs up so that you can once again congratulate yourself on buying this bottling.

A bit closed at first, after a while a basket full of tropical fruits appears: passion fruit, papaya, mango, dragonfruit, banana. But also dried figs and raisins, which together with a note of nougat chocolate form the foundation. Increasing spice, whereby the individual components cannot be separated from one another: simply a spice rack. |

Dry and not too violent start, the 56.3% glide comfortably over the tongue. Creamy, fat and full, again with a good portion of tropical fruits. Nougat, almond chocolate, toffee, caramel. Quite early the pot still spices, which first delight the palate with a good portion of pepper, only to become a bit more tame a little later with allspice, marjoram, tarragon, thyme and cumin. The tropical fruits from the beginning took a little break in between, but are now surging again. I like that very much when flavors that have already been ticked off and said goodbye drop by again. |

Medium to long finish, indeed. You don't really trust a 12yo, but it happens quite often with Redbreast. I put it down to the pot still spices, thanks to the large proportion of unmalted barley. Grated Nutmeg, Fresh Ginger, Clove Powder, Thyme. Plus nougat, almonds, rapeseed honey. |
A great 12 year old Redbreast at cask strength. This version is quite tropical and nutty. Concerning price/performance ratio: 9/10
nose: intense, vanilla, woody, spices, fruits cooked on apples and exotic fruits, the blackcurrant seems absent it requires a rest period before getting into it stuffy: explosion of peppery spices, wood, tannin, almost burnt roasted coffee, it changes from 40°! the fruits are of course the peach, the cooked and candied apple, subtle mango, the sugar gives a little break to this maddening mouth, a little pastry, vanilla, nougat, a delight final: long, intense, the woodiness, the noble spices there, it's even difficult to deliver a note since the quality almost makes you forget all the scents, magnificent! to take with a starter before, the water breaks these divine scents.
A dark dram with bitter sour fruits. Stewed mangoes, marmalade, tangelos, coconut, watered down light roast coffee, smoked moderately hot chili peppers, buttered toast, butterscotch on sponge cake, semi-dried apricots, and a hint of pears. It's interesting that the 40% version is butterscotch forward with some citrus fruits while this one is fruit forward (with the fruits being more defined/identifiable) with some butterscotch. Also, the 40% has a bit of biscuitiness common in Irish pot still, whereas this one has a bit of cakiness instead.
That's a nice batch! Right after opening the bottle the flavour is quite dark for an irish whiskey. Very dry oak and roasted notes are dominant, but it's still clearly an irish whiskey and tastes like a Redbreast. It was lacking in the sweet zone and the alcohol presence is surely a bit too much for some. You can help it with a drop of water which will also reveal some fruit. Let the bottle rest for a week or two after opening it and get ready for the reward. All the fruit you are familiar with from the normal/current 12yo Redbreast will appear to complete this CS. Still there's no reduction of the massive dry/dark oaky notes. What a pleasant, beautiful and massive whiskey! I only wish distilleries can keep up this level of quality in the future too!

Aroma: closed at first, a little alcoholic fumes, caramel, dried fruits - dried apricots, dates, figs, raisins, something from fresh fruit - a ripe peach. Bark, currant leaf, blackcurrant berries. Over time, currant nuances intensify, a light aroma of a varnished board, wax appears. Taste: bright, many spices and spices, ginger, cloves, chili pepper, orange peel, caramel sweetness, ripe peaches, apricots, orange liqueur. Finish: continues the taste, oily, fading spices, blackcurrant tea, herbal bitterness, longer than average. Score: 88 Bottom line: a solid batch, probably a little worse than the others I've tested. Over time, the aroma noticeably improves, so it's worth letting it breathe a little longer. I find myself thinking that this is one of the best whiskeys in its class for this money, if you take against the backdrop of Glengoyne Cask Strength, and a few more from Speyside, which have sunk lately, then I would probably take a new batch of Redbreast.

Redbreast 12 Cask Strength is one of the stars of the range, mostly well rated and quickly sold out. In January 2023, it is priced at under €70 to €75. www.glen-efze.de
Nose: Honey and mildly sweet apples, with a bit of red wine or sangria; it is a bit strong at first, but settles down as you get into the glass. There is some icing sugar, bread and baked goods to go along with the vanilla, brown sugar, and a bit of oak. Slightly sharp spirit, a little bit metallic at times, but still new flavors come forward: dark stewed fruits, a hint of salt, grass and leaves, and fresh lumber. With the nose situated a little further back from the glass, perfume and flowers are there as well. Palate: Mouthfeel is thick, and this is quite rich and oily all around. Warmth from hot cinnamon oranges, orange rind, and a little bit of pepper spice; sweet apples and overripe pear, too, or even a mild stone fruit like peach. There is a little bit of smoke coming in with the wood notes, and the oakiness is medium. Brown sugar and baking spices take over, barley grain, cereal, even a hint of nutmeg and semi-sweet baked goods; bread and butter. All of this is rounded out with syrupy dark fruit, and then finishes with a hint of leather and perfume. Finish: The warmth here lingers for a while, and the finish is of a medium-long length. It's pleasant, though, and we're finding apples, caramel, and some cinnamon red hots; then the subtle notes, orange rind, reddish-purple sherry fruit, vanilla, and oats. After the tannins subside, we're left with that little perfumed leather note from the palate, but it actually grows a bit stronger and comes to the front - this almost tastes a bit older and more developed than 12 years might make you think.

A well-cut 12, balanced, without sharp edges, with a pleasant enveloping taste and a long finish. Of the derivatives - ripe yellow pear, dry grain, freshly cut grass, wild rose, raisins, chocolate wafers, honey.
Sweet smell, punch cake with oranges, peaches, and fruit jelly. There are also sweet plums in the smell. The taste is also sweet, a lot of vanilla, toffee, white chocolate, sweet cream, but also citrus. In the finish, there is a lemon tartness, slightly smokiness, yeastiness, tobacco - the original sweetness practically disappears. It warms up with the power of alcohol.

Irish whiskeys are always a nice change because they almost always have a very soft and special bouquet due to the triple distillation and are nice and light. Unfortunately, sometimes they are too easy and therefore boring. With a Redbreast you don't have to worry as much and especially the 12 cask strength is always a safe bet and a super standard that can definitely keep up with the 12 Cask Strength from Springbank in terms of quality, PLV and reliability. A perfect standard for little money, which I enjoy again and again with friends every year. Today, because of the joy of reunion after almost two years, very, very tight 89 points.

Full, rich aromas of honey, some vanilla and a slight spiciness, which comes from the influence of the Olorso casks used - in addition to the bourbon casks used. The triple distillation does not make this whiskey too light, just clean. In its volume, the individual aromas are almost shy and require some concentration, because they are more broad and less deep. All in all not a spectacle, but definitely a reliable bank again if you are looking for a nice cask strong at that age for a reasonable 70 euros. The more time you give it, the broader the flavors become. Then a very slight dirtiness at the back, which is not as clear as with the mentioned 12s from Springbank. |

For something that's so often praised, I find it rather bland and somewhat boring. Yes, it's a smooth Irish whiskey, but I still expected something more. It's certainly not a bad whiskey, but I don't really enjoy drinking it... re-tasting: still disappointed. just too dull and boring.

Amazing Irish whiskey. So fruity and 'pot still oily', I love it. It's a shame it so expensive and scarce. But if I can find another bottle, I'll definitely buy another bottle.
NOSE: Sweet almond, marzipan. TASTE: Sweet and moderately peppery arrival. On the mid palate lots of nice peppery notes without being too spicy. Punchy. Dried apricot and peach. Takes water well. Mint. SCORE: 88 points.
Very similar to some Aberlour Abunadh releases. Powerful rich aroma. Nuts, exotic fruits, dried fruits, honey, figs, cinnamon, pepper, ginger, spicy oak, raisins, baked fruits and plums, creamy, chewy. You can add a little water. The aftertaste is spicy, enveloping. 89-90, but if you break it down, then 22.5-22.5-22-22.5

Bourbon-like notes. Alcohol comes through, only a little fruity, lots of caramel, vanilla and sugar cane. Better to grab a good bourbon right away!

Simply a safe bank! The combination of fruity spiciness of the expressive pot still distillate and the ideal accompanying barrels never fails to impress.
