For me, the best editions were defined by the 100 Proof Edition from Signatory Vintage. At the original price, it's practically a must-buy.

Нос 88 Toffee notes are immediately noticeable, along with a hint of alcohol. With a little time, the alcohol becomes less perceptible and plum notes emerge. A few drops of water are sufficient.
Вкус 88 The plums are barely perceptible in the background. Taste-wise, this dram reminds me more of very delicious brandy-covered chocolates.
Финиш 87 The medium-length finish leaves a very pleasant, dry mouthfeel. The dark aromas remain clearly dominant.

With a good average community rating, this Benrinnes is one of the strong entries in the 100 Proof Edition series and shows a very successful balance between fruit, sweetness, spice and sherry depth. I had a sample from a dealer's 100-proof tasting set.

Нос 85 The opening presents sweet, ripe fruits – apricots and mango – along with toffee and a delicate spiciness, typical of first-fill Oloroso sherry maturation. The sherry influences also bring oaky depth and complexity. .
Вкус 84 On the palate, it is full-bodied and complex, with recurring fruitiness, soft butterscotch and fudge sweetness, and sherry notes that harmonize well with spices and a touch of oak. It doesn't need water. .

The most impressive bottling of the ones I tasted so far within this competitively priced series. A quality sherry maturation without completely overpowering the potent Benrinnes spirit itself.

Нос 87 Opens up sherry forward with black cherries, raisins, citrus fruits, and a bit of coffee. Some dried spices and dusty oak on an earthy background surface, while it also has a fresh and slightly sharp / youngish edge.
Вкус 88 A thick and luscious palate, with the 100 proof alcohol well integrated. It's fruity with cherry jam, raisins, and blackberries, followed by milk chocolate, vanilla and spices: cloves, curry and cinnamon. The meaty character of Benrinnes also surfaces, with some spirit sulphur and a whiff of smoke as well. 88 points for me, bordering on 89 points.
Финиш 88 The sweetness of raisins and red fruits is countered by the sourness of citrus fruits, some coffee and tannins, and a fresh touch of ginger, cumin and oregano. Lingers dark with a growing bitterness.

1 Buck for your Bang ! 1 Buck (in euro) for every BANG! Great powerhouse from a lesser known Distillery. I think I can get 50 BANGS from 1 bottle. But otherwise a real Bang for the Buck too! Don't expect an absolutely full-bodied sherry, a touch light still in the palette, but still. Class for the money.

Exceptional whisky for the money. Delivers very good..as the whole series, you need to like sherry maturations. For me some droplets of water did a very good improvement.

dark cherries, Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte, Kirschwasser, date syrup, bit boozy with some heat, needs water for my taste, has a carbonated appearance, menthol, dry and tannic european oak, some similarities to an old bourbon, hints of glue all cask, no distillery, very loud and not very well integrated, but good fun, reminds me of those signatory bottled edradours

A 1st fill Oloroso sherry cask driven whisky, huge value and bang for buck. It is a modern sherry bomb for the red ones but the fruity soft Benrinnes character is still noticeable. Recommended. 86/100

Nose: The alcohol immediately becomes apparent and dominates the first impression. Strong Oloroso notes dominate the aroma, intense and rich. Beyond that, the nose remains rather closed, making subtle nuances difficult to discern. The actual distillery character seems almost completely masked. Taste: The attack is powerful and accompanied by a pronounced peppery spiciness. Sherry aromas dominate the palate with full force, supported by distinctive wood tones. The sherry is omnipresent, leaving little room for other facets. With water: The addition of water noticeably changes the aroma – a slightly sticky note emerges on the nose. On the palate, the whisky is now significantly milder, but a considerable amount of water is needed to reduce the alcohol sharpness to a pleasant level. The whisky is now surprisingly dry, while the sherry emphasis remains prominent.

Very warm spicy and fruity, first fill Oloroso with Benrinnes always works well. Complexity: 86 (I expected a bit more at 13 years old) Intensity: 88 Price quality, again of course insane for €49.99.

Overall, it is what it looks like: a modern, dark sherry whisky with its typical notes. Fortunately, it has no sulphur. It doesn't offer anything new or interesting. The Benrinnes distillery or its age also offer nothing special. It is a bottling that we have seen dozens of times in one form or another. But here comes the thing: it is simply delicious and pleasant to drink, is 100 proof and is unbeatably cheap. So we don't need or look for anything special here and are simply happy with what we have. For my part, I have ordered another bottle because it is well suited as an "everyday" drinking whisky.

Among the advantages of this whisky, it is worth noting the price. In 2025, buying a 13-year-old barrel-aged whisky in an Oloroso cask for 50 euros is like getting into a time machine and traveling back 10 years. But… that’s where the advantages end and the taste puts everything in its place. Therefore, there is a philosophical question: should we evaluate malt depending on the price/quality+hype ratio or still on absolute indicators, regardless of price? If we still believe that price is important, then this whisky would have 88 points, which is what people gave it on average. But my assessment is on an absolute scale. Bottle bought and just adjusted. Molt breathed in the glass for up to an hour. No water.

Нос 81 Classic modern aroma of sour/sweet sherry cask. Strawberries and red fruits. Alcohol. Sulphur free.
Вкус 81 Drunk cherry. Over time — cocoa. Pepper, cloves and a lot of oak. The oak is more burnt, bitter. Raisins in the rum. The distillery is not readable. Sherry killed it.
Финиш 79 Short peppery aftertaste, a bit of sweet currant at the end.

Wow! If you like dominant sherry bottlings, you'll love this whisky. I'm a bit surprised that Signatory Vintage released it as a 100 proof bottling. This could have been released as a vase for €100 and would have been equally well received. My only criticism would be that the sherry is almost too dominant. But that's exactly where I'm coming from. That's why, for me, it's a first-class bottling with an outstanding price-performance ratio.

An excellent representative of the style: sherry bomb But without heaviness. Benrinnes' distillate, despite being triple distilled, has enough character to not be overpowered by the first-fill Oloroso cask. Lots of chocolate in its nose, with beeswax. Classic style but excellent. Looks less young than those "only" 13 years old. Mouth and finish in style, even if the finish is a little short, which in my eyes prevents it from exceeding 90 points.

Andrew Symington is said to be a fan of Oloroso butts for whisky maturation. This is certainly evident in the Signatory range. And here we have another typical Signatory maturation. There's little doubt about it: this Benrinnes is dark, this Benrinnes is a sherry bomb. Even if that's somewhat frowned upon these days, sometimes it has to be a sherry bomb. Ultimately, this has become a beautifully dry sherry bomb. However, similar to many 100 Proof expressions, the robust Oloroso cask influence tends to dominate, somewhat obscuring the underlying distillate's character.

I have to admit that this random purchase made a very good impression on me. Whisky is so easily drinkable, that I almost forgot to do a proper tasting. Yes, here the sherry influence is enormous, but it still leaves some space for Benrinnes malt. Not all whiskies from 100 proof series are engaging, but this one is definitely one of them.

Great sherry monster, considering the price range of 100 proof edition. Before tasting it I expected it to be typical heavily sherried SV malt with no personality of the distillery, but some fruity character of Benrinnes is surprisingly alive!

Good whisky. Well-balanced and easy to drink. It's a sherry bomb, as it should be. I think they use good barrels, which is why the whisky is so good. In my opinion, it's hard to find such a tasty whisky or that price.

A heavy, dark sherry-based malt in which the alcohol is very well integrated. It's pleasing that it just about manages to turn things around and doesn't develop any off-sulfur notes. I'm still considering buying a bottle, because in the long run it could become a little too one-sided for me. [84~87] nice, there is something to discover, purchase incentive only if the price-enjoyment ratio is good :-) If I were to take the price into account (which I generally don't do), I would have to rate it even higher.

Нос 87 Dark and powerful. Raisins marinated in rum, black heart cherries, sweet and sour blood orange, figs, forest honey, a little tree resin, wood spice, old oak cupboard. Very intense and just about to tip over into sulphur. But everything is still good.
Вкус 88 Oily mouthfeel. The 100 proof is now apparent, the tongue tingles slightly. The impressions from the nosing are reflected, but the malt slowly becomes sweet and bitter.
Финиш 87 The sweetness quickly turns into an astringent dryness. The raisins also fade very quickly. Instead, an intense woody spiciness takes over, without the malt being too woody.

Нос 87 earthy dusty dried cranberries, with a sence of freshness, conflicting but interesting combination, some raisins, slight vanilla cream, with water added it reveals more woody and nutty characters
Вкус 88 Hawthorn cake, dried cranberries and raisins still, chocolate, almond, creamy body but not heavy, tingling with light wet woody spices
Финиш 87 a lot of dried dark fruits, chocolate with nuts, passion fruit seeds, more woody spices revealed but still wet, some aged citrus peel feeling, long and tasteful

This is a high strength intensely sweet and dry sherry, bottled as whisky. The casks employed are so overpowering that there is nothing left of spirit originally distilled. This doesn't mean it's bad or unpleasant in small doses. If you enjoy this you really should try a good Oloroso sherry directly rather than in this roundabout way - there are some really good ones around!

Rich and deep sherry, red fruits, blueberries, blackcurrants, raspberries, redcurrants of all colors. Spoonfuls of jam. Forest honey. Prunes, varnished noble wood. On the palate, molasses, resin, quince, green tea, apple crumble generously drizzled with cinnamon. Intense spices, cloves, nutmeg, cumin. Quite a long and enjoyable finish, chocolate religieuse, slight woody bitterness, cola, coffee grounds. Shortbread biscuits, chestnuts, forest undergrowth, a few drops of caramel. I really liked the nose; it's Sherry as we like it, deep, subtle, and not cloying. Color: dark red, or rather brown. Aroma: very closed, which is not surprising at this degree. Red grapes warmed in the sun, lemon zest, tobacco leaf. Taste: here it is rich, cherry jam, grapes, a little mint, pepper, pear, a little oak. Delicious. Aftertaste is long: mint candy, pear a little oak. Conclusion: the aroma is closed, but the taste and aftertaste are excellent, very tasty. Adding water does not enhance the aroma, but it becomes very drinkable. Rating: 89
