Отдельно противоречива ценность: «bargain» при исходной цене, но не за 80€ [r63], и «incentive to buy only comes with a good price-to-enjoyment ratio» [r60]. Контекстные сравнения включают Kilkerran WIP 7 Sherry Wood [r3][r19], Springbank [r4][r9][r16][r29][r32] и Bruichladdich [r21].

Raw, a neutral spirit with a hint of bourbon barrel flavor.
Let's say it immediately, it seems that a Kilkerran aged in bourbon casks can not be bad. This last edition of the series "Work In Progress" does not disappoint, quite the contrary. She confirms that Glengyle distills a very large whisky. This version is richer, but also much more complex than the previous version, less instant. The aromas sparkle, swarm and explode on all sides. But, once again, it will be necessary to be patient to discover all the facets of this superb whisky.

Compared with Kilkerran WIP 7 Sherry Wood
The nose is initially closed and alcoholic, it takes time. When it opens, it is an austere malt that is offered to us, mainly mineral and lemony, with a small note of fresh eucalyptus. In the mouth, it is powerful, quite fluid, always on the same aromas, with a hint of smoke as a bonus. The finish is long and very lemony. In the end, a chiseled malt, sharp, and promising for the future. It reminds me a bit of the Springbank "BBR peat smoked", in fatter and less smoked, the less mature this-says. It swims pretty well, but I do not find the addition of water necessary. In the 88-89 / 100, to be confirmed.
n: mineral ...a bit closed and dense m:minerall but not too much, subtle wax, some apples and pears as well and a little pepper f:long enough with its own character 89 excellent character!!!
One of my absolute favorites! Would I recommend to anyone who starts wondering if any whisky really needs to look like cherry juice
Just very well done. And the price is right for the quality. I love the sweet/coastal combination. But it really benefits from water
Springbank Kilkerran style. The intensity of the dram does prevail on bourbon

A very consistent presentation from nose to finish, great balance between distillery character and (fantastic!) wood, no off-notes whatsoever, just a rich, creamy, oily, fruity experience with just the right dose of peat. At the same time it is neither too weak, nor overpowering, nothing over-engineered or “made to suit a certain taste” about it – an honest, down-to-earth malt from an underrepresented distillery. This gives most of the big names a run for their money Tasting Notes: https://dokla.net/dailydram/2015/07/19/tasting-glengyle-kilkerran-wip-7-bourbon-2004-2015/

That rather petrol note really isn't my thing - a little too sickly but it is pushing its own path
A notch above the 8 year olds, and in a not too dissimilar world to fellow young Campbeltowner the Springbank 9 year old local barley .. fat, oily, buttery, salty goodness.

Both the sherry wood and the bourbon wood are very good with plenty of flavors and character. Not easy to determine which one is better than the other in my opinion. I have always preferred the bourbon wood slightly over the sherry wood in previous WIP wood expressions, but now they are really close despite the difference in abv. The Sherry wood was slightly more appealing on the nose, while the bourbon wood was more appealing on the palate and the finish. So this bourbon wood was still slightly better on my palate that the sherry wood when it comes to Kilkerran. There are some hints of subtle peat and mineral in both that really shows that they are close siblings. (Rating interval 86-89)

Tasted blind in day 11 of the Usquebaugh Society Blind Tasting Comprtition 2015. I guessed this one correctly for the full points! (More lucky than proud... ;-) )
Pleasant first impression, lots of wood, a little smoke, probably more wood smoke than peat, great. Fruity, reminiscent of applesauce, strong alcohol, slightly pungent in the nose. On the tongue, the smoke makes itself felt first. Reminds me of a Bruichladdich, like the Scottish Barley. A little clove is added, very strong and spicy. But also some vanilla, which then acts sweetly. Medium long, pleasant finish. I think, a nice dram for the Advent season.
No fuss here, an expressive whisky, succulent-salted duo very successful, marine and citrus. Vanilla and wood dosed just enough to complicate without harming the duo. A success.

Aroma: Creamy chocolate, the scent is a bit windy, with wood, bourbon breeze, skin, slightly spices, cereals, hazelnuts. It's not bad, but .... (84 b) Taste: ... the main thing is on the tongue. Here he will show his quality. Malt, the bourbon drum again. Spicy, with sharpness of alcohol, but we can also find honey sweetness, creamy chocolate, candied fruit, and even pepper and citrus. The brut of barrel sublimates the smoked / peated / fruity marriage which is really well balanced, fine and subtle. This edition is a big step above the previous one, unequivocal in my eyes. A whisky claaaasse, noble strain. 89/100 (limit 90, without quite reaching it).

N: The CS abv level is making all the difference here. Lots of wood spice, a waxy-oiliness and plenty of beer notes - yet its clean and polished too. T: Dry for starters but turning towards a creamy, moorish, delicious bourbon wood development. It provides a superb mouthfeel and full palate coating. Theres a touch of roughness [neat certainly], as it becomes sweet ’n’ sour and tannic into the finish. Its also dry like a dark chocolate can be. F: Not a lot here in the latter stages but for a more salivating mouthfeel to counteract the earlier dryness. Allium=aniseed fresh at the end with a touch more soft, malt chocolate to conclude. C: Very drinkable with a sweet spot at its heart, this is good stuff. Scores a C+
Very good. But I didn't recognise the Springbank profile! Shame on me. Tasted at day 11 of the Usquebaugh Society blind tasting competition 2015. My guess was a Fettercairn, 17yo at 58% because it was so peppery.
A fantastic showing when tasting it on its own. Once in competition with more matured whiskies, it shows its limitations, youthfulness and very modern profile. That's where it looses a few points with me.

Tightly and powerfully, but more tightly, compared to the samples of the commercial fortress, simpler, a sort of antipode Kilhomanu - there is everything below 50% - sluggish and boring, here on the contrary - weak releases will be more interesting, although due to power and density on points a small advantage.
A Kilkerran that mixes finesse and character. It has all the necessary assets for a good whisky. I loved that it's the taste and the price.

That was "back then" (at the time of issue) the temporary high point at Glengyle, because it wasn't much better in terms of bourbon barrel maturation, and it probably contains older stuff. Fantastic concentration of aromas and rich Campbeltown oiliness paired with intense fruit & funk = that is / was great! Details: see Totoro :)

Kilkerran WIP VII Bourbon Cask Distillery: Glengyle (Campbeltown) Distilled: approx. 2004 Bottled: 2015 (Age: approx. 11 years) Edition: 6000 bottles Maturation: Bourbon Wood Alcohol: 54.1% Expectation: For the seventh and last time the Glengyle Distillery will be releasing a Kilkerran under the name "Work In Progress", next year the first "official" Kilkerran with 12 years maturity will appear. The Glengyle Distillery was reactivated in 2004 after about 80 years of Sleeping Beauty sleep. Back then, it was not so much about the whisky boom that was coming up, more about wanting to deprive Campbeltown of the status of a whisky region and making a third distillery quickly. Long-time Springbank manager Frank McHardy supervised the construction of the cult figure at Springbank. From the outset, it was planned to fill the single malt (which may not be called Glengyle because of a protected brand name), only at 12 years to fill. For the meantime, there were quasi samples under the name "Work in Progress", separated for three years in Bourbon - and Sherrycaskreifung, with the Bourbon Wood to be discussed here for the first time a bottling in cask strength. Last year, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary, I was already able to taste a strong filling and was quite enthusiastic. In the run-up to the publication of this bottling slight hype conditions in common whisky forums, etc. were observed, let's see if it was justified ... Eye: medium golden yellow Nose: apples, pears, vanilla, caramel, green banana, honeydew melon, fruit of punch or rum pot, orange gum (chilled for about 4 minutes ...), some smoke, alcoholic note well integrated, Taste: oak, smoky notes, orange and orange peel, Uncle Dittmeyer's juice cartons of yesteryear, something about the date ..., above all lies an unobtrusive smoke. Finish: medium in length, the oak and smoke are remembered for a long time ... Conclusion: very nice bottling, so similar was the barrel from last year in Campbeltown. If the first official bottling will be published next year, then we can be happy, a nice thing is that, luckily they have reopened this distillery. 89 points

Slate The series Work In Progress is about to finish, is it not? I think it is about time the Glengyle distillery reveals a standard bottling. But in the meantime we will have to work with this WIP 7, that matured on bourbon casks and was bottled at cask strength. We are rid of the terrible pink label, only to be offered up this pale green monstrosity. Oh, well, I suppose the important thing is the Kilkerran that is inside. Big mineral nose on clay, gravel, beach sand and breakfast cereals. Oatmeal. A bit of vanilla, mint and a single slice of lime. Well, this is special, but absolutely stunning. Mouth coating, clean and waxy! On the palate I do get a lot of lime and white pepper, but the taste is like me licking it of a slate. There is a hint of exotic fruit – albeit quite discrete – lake papaya and agrums. The sweet peat rears its head midpalate, leading to a soft but nice smokiness. Wonderfully long finish on greasy coals, vanilla and citrus fruit. The first WIP at cask strength and it will be long remembered. What a whisky! Seems old school, but is simply stunning. Ridiculously good spirit. 88/100 Update: on 12th Augustus 2016 the standard Kilkerran 12 Year Old will be released.
Surprising, a soil Whisky, sulphurous, we like the style? Perfect in this case, if not, go to 12 years which is to my taste better balanced, more greedy and pastry chef. If it had to be given a subjective note, it would be a 86

Five drops of water open up the malt and harmonize the slightly bitter impressions in the finish. [85~87] Nice, there's something to discover, but the incentive to buy only comes with a good price-to-enjoyment ratio :-)

Excellent, in a style that I like a lot. Only the nose is a little behind, but the raw cask brings a lot to this version at the mouth and the final compared to the old WIP Bourbons. More body, more length, more ... Everything! A distillery that has everything a big future but that may have to stand out a little more than its big neighbor to find his audience.
