Суммаризация отзывов
Среди 34 текстовых отзывов многие описывают выраженный дым и торф. В [r1] нос начинается «decidedly smoky and burnt» с пеплом, углём и мокрой газетой, позже появляются фермерские ноты (старый амбар, пустой овчарник, ржавая техника, мокрая земля); вкус «strongly smoky, almost pungent», финиш «long, very phenolic and smoky». В [r3] сказано: «Not balanced and too vegetal for me». В [r13] — «I don't like the intrinsic cane sugary sweetness of the dram». В [r14] — «A tad too aggressive to my liking», разбавление водой помогает немного. В [r25] — «powerful, slightly sharp, smoky-peaty whisky, very young and straightforward, barely formed», с недостатками короткой выдержки и агрессивности бочек. Также есть краткие отзывы: [r5] «A great Islay expression!», [r6] «preferred the younger port charlottes but this is still a great whisky, superior and a lot more interesting than the octomores», [r8] «Grand PC that chases away the darkness on these winter nights», [r9] «Good as long as you like peat in your face», [r12] «A very long and warming finish of peat, nutmeg and earth aromas», [r17] «Not as complex as it might be but fine peated malt nonetheless», [r21] «Cracking stuff!», [r22] «more subtle, more worked, the wood feels more, always wet by a barrel of algae reclaiming greasy peat», [r26] «I prefer this one to the Octomores. It`s like licking a chimney and having fun. Despite the high alc, it has an astonishing smoothness», [r29] «Well needs water, so it's obligatory to add some therein». Ряд отзывов — это только пометки о слепой дегустации или ссылки без описания ([r4], [r7], [r10], [r15], [r28], [r30], [r32], [r33]).

Нос 88 Starts off decidedly smoky and burnt. Ash, coal, wet newspaper. In the background there are creamy vanilla notes, some salt and overall quite robust. Becomes more complex and quite farm-like over time. Old barn, empty sheepfold and rusty farm machinery, wet earth and trampled bracken. With water: wonderfully balanced between peat smoke, salt and farm aromas. somewhat earthy, perhaps also slightly sulphurous and slightly rotten cider fruit.
Вкус 87 Strongly smoky, almost pungent. Lots of burnt and ash aromas, less farm like in smell. A little sweeter and saltier. With water: sweeter, fruitier, farm-like again with an empty sheepfold, rainy hay, musty, earthy cellars and slightly rotten cider fruit.
Финиш 86 Long, very phenolic and smoky.

N: Aah, one of my favourite places - PC world!! Starting off with vegetable soap [liquid and bar], washing detergent, coal tar, old oak sheds, 2 stroke engine oil,  seaweed, new & synthetic leather and smoked compost - thats the peat vibe. Its also rather industrial and chemical [fertiliser] - although certainly not wholly undesirable. There are also more subtle notes of vanilla, lime leaves, dandelion, thyme, rosemary, Day two and its all about the alliums - specifically onions [dried, fried and caramalised] along with roasted fennel, endive, brimstone scrub and fresh aniseed. Two months later, theres herbal chewing gum but its all about the scrub. Caol Ila meets Brimstone! T: Rather well integrated this one but hard to pin down due to the immensity of the phenols - and yet when you pick it apart its not incredibly demanding. It is however rather chemical and soapy as on the nose but this changes somewhat with water with the peat becoming more organic in the process. Day two brings fresh onion and fennel soup with a soupy/brine film forming on the palate into the finish. Around two months later and the soapiness has dissipated and moved towards a fennel/celery scrub. There is still that soapy/bath product freshness but coupled with the high quality malt and a mouthfeel to die for, this is turning out to be much better than when i first opened it. And then theres the far reaching development which stretches out like a long summer. Waxy oily scrub signals the finish along with a touch of billiard chalk. Don’t be scared to add water, its certainly not a delicate wall flower. F: Fennel/coal tar/liquorice reside with the wood now having a good go. Two months later, im still getting the coal tar, very Lagavulin but more so - Caol Ila. Loving the waxy mouthfeel and the clean malt - raw barley notes that are intact till the last. Perfect closing sequence with spirt and oak firm friends. Most notably, the peat appears so tame. C: I struggled with this PC10, such was the soapiness on opening. Two months on however and things are different. With water, this is working and with time - ooh what a mouthfeel. Furthermore, what of the fabulous barley underpinning the whole expression? Unlike the fold, this certainly isn’t my favourite of the range but boy, this PC series really is a knockout. Scores a B[+]

After the PC8 that I had in my beginnings, I was pleasantly very surprised by this PC10. An olfactory explosion with beautiful citrus aromas. Very oily, silky, a powerful peat but excellent in the mouth. Tastes of honey and caramel, a lingering length in the mouth.

Tasted blind. A peated whisky with some maritime touches and medicinality, but none of those chemical notes I would associate with Bowmore, not enough peat for a Laphroaig or Caol Ila, and just doesn't feel at all like Ardbeg or Lagavulin, so...? [Port Charlotte, of course. Should have guessed from the light farm-y touches.] This tasted like an already mature whisky with not too much wood influence. However, I am missing a bit of oomph, something to make it truly memorable.

Despite being aged two years longer, it seems younger and rougher to me than the PC8 Ar Dùthchas. But it still tastes good.

Нос 87 A "green" nose at first sniff, but without the youthfulness that often goes with it. Gooseberries, fresh beech branches, cold, almost metallic smoke, fresh herbs, thyme branches, sage, rosemary.
Вкус 86 Very strong start, in my opinion stronger than the PC8 with its 60.5%, which I had in my glass half an hour ago. Herbal smoke, kiwi, gooseberry, slightly metallic. Dark chocolate, cold espresso, nougat, walnuts and Brazil nuts.
Финиш 85 Short and crisp, more fruity than spicy, lots of cold smoke, a slightly chemical note.

Вкус 87 Taste: Very salty, marine, smoke, ash, peat, vanilla, toffee, tart wood, tart fruit, apricot kernel, citrus, very spicy, pepper, ginger, slightly tingles on the tongue. 87.00

Brief comparison between PC8 (WID:9854), PC10 (WID:34014) and PC12 (WID:76543) The PC8 is a very straight forward smoky laddie malt. In addition to the typical and rather special smokiness of a Port Charlotte, there is not that much anymore. The barrel elegantly holds back. There's probably a lot of smoke in your face. Which is then inevitably one-dimensional. But the barrel gets through better with water. Despite the alcohol strength, you have to be relatively careful with it. It cannot tolerate too much water. It's a bit different with the PC10. It appears "warmer" and the barrel influence is stronger. Here the relationship between smoke and barrel fits better. This creates a little more sweetness, depth and maturity. The PC12 shows even more. The barrels were more active, which is also reflected in the color. Surely he's kissed by the brimstone. If you don't have any problems with it, then it's a clear improvement. He looks more mature compared to the PC8 and PC10, but far from tame. The extroverted Port Charlotte smoke combined with more active and slightly dirtier barrels just suits me here. The PC12 clearly won the comparison for me. After that comes the PC10 and then the PC8. I'm glad I have more bottles from the PC12. I don't have a bottle from the PC10 and PC8. But I'm not that sad about it. In the meantime there are probably better alternatives from Port Charlotte.

The sensation of a wood fire strikes first. More austere and less expressive than other PC tasted so far, alcohol seems less well integrated too. Fennel, parsley, cloves; pretty closed. Beautiful thick texture, sweet attack, large size of the mouth, licorice and clove. Unlike the nose alcohol is well integrated. The farmer side is present just right. Long finish on smoke and bitter plants, roots (gentian). Not the most exciting release of PC, especially because of the nose, but whisky that remains very pleasant all the same with a big character.

A powerful, slightly sharp, smoky-peaty whisky, very young and straightforward, barely formed, the density and pressure barely compensate for the shortcomings of short aging and excessive aggression of the casks.

I prefer this one to the Octomores. It`s like licking a chimney and having fun. Despite the high alc, it has an astonishing smoothness. Highly recommended.

A decent expression without any doubts but I would have guessed younger than 10 YO. There is a complexity behind the peat but the barley spirit is there as well, not yet fully integrated in my opinion. (Rating interval 85-88)

https://whiskylovingpianist.wordpress.com/2022/09/18/have-i-got-news-four-you-revisiting-bruichladdichs-peat-monsters/ N: A bready salty allium-y [seemingly] rum > tequila-like collaboration with the addition of a few sultanas, 1/3 teaspoon of cocoa powder and, despite Bruichladdich’s savoury nature in general, more than a suggestion of maple syrup over a few ham squares. Indeed, sweet ex-bourbon casks help subdue the phenols somewhat. T: Super oily yet floury/grain-dry over a salty shammy leathery belly, we’ve a heavy salted vegetal/medicinal minerallic > diluted syrupy delivery,… F: ,… with a gradual~growing reveal, intensely salty, and with a dirty dry garage-y savoury-sour [watered-down] golden syrup finish. C: Bruichladdich’s heavily peated bruisers [accompanied by a suitably complimentary high-octane abv] rarely favour the faint-hearted, this one being a prime example. For me, the highlight was the journey points between arrival and release.
