89.50 Nose: very smoky and fruity sweet, hospital smells, wet cardboard, freshly laid asphalt, delicate salty sea climate, dark fruits, blueberries, plum jam, sour blackcurrant, bacon, salty smoked bacon, coffee, coffee ice cream. It's as if it wasn't ex-Bourbon, which suits me perfectly! Taste: very oily and thick, the taste is a bit different from what was felt in the aroma, but it is equally interesting, a lot of peat and smoke, ash, a burning fire, a lot of pungent wood, chocolate with salt, a lot of salt, chili, spices, cocoa, a bit of cinnamon. Finish: medium long and warming, extremely dry, again very salty, sea, dried algae, sugar syrup, smoked fish, pepper. Really very good Batch! The incredibly fruity aroma is astonishing compared to previous batches. For the first time in 10 Cs I encountered such dark aromatic fruit, you can sit and smell it for hours!
Kind of a classic now. An annual batch (good, with exceptions) of a very well matured 10 as OA in CS at an even more or less reasonable RRP (with a fee discount (which was eliminated at some point)) I paid 45 for a #006 from Laphi itself ), where you can actually be sure and blindly buying 1 to x¹ bottles is not a mistake. Always a little different, but always damn tasty. It's been sitting in the glass for a while now... ...tart herbs, reminiscent of Italian cuisine...basil; now smoke, classic; There's a big medicine cabinet in the hospital with a lot of different stuff in it; dry, powdery; but behind it lies the sweetness of vanilla, delicate caramel pastries and slightly oxidized light fruit pulp; Despite everything, you're still stuck in the hospital, somewhere near here a Buddl Desi tipped over... ...slightly caramelly sweet beginning; the herbs are emerging; becomes bitter; powerful; powerful; a dash of chocolate and dark cocoa; You have something like Laphroaig in your mouth; Smoke; Fire; Desi; All hell is breaking loose in the hospital; seductive; It's kind of tasty and the strength of the alcohol is pleasing... ...with a delicately seductive light vanilla-fruit sweetness, which is joined by an increasingly dominant herbal note, it then leaves. You can feel something from the cocoa, including black pepper; some black tea; In the corner there is a really old, dark, greasy leather chair that has been sitting for decades. Cool lounge here in the KH, you won't forget it despite everything. Definitely not a mistake to have some in stock. As usual, tasty, strong, that's how it should be. The only thing I would like to have back is more KH. I think there used to be more in it.
> Blind Tasting < Nose: sweet, fermented strawberries, musty oak, slight acidity, smoke, some spices, slightly mineral note •• Taste: sweet, smoke (phenolic), oak, malt, mineral note •• Finish: medium long, sweet smoke with mineral notes remains. •• Conclusion: Strongly smoky whisky. Not too complex. Fruits are difficult to interpret.

I'm not a big fan of CS, and this is beyond my optimum smoke - but nice secondary aromas: fatty cream, resin, salt, spray, plus ripe oranges, summer honey.

Besides the medicinal smoke, the whisky is light but pleasant. Mostly a light honey sweetness and some citrus sourness. The alcohol is definitely there, but not sharp enough to be offputting. Still, I prefer it with a dose of water. Some notes, like the leathery note, comes through more with water. The style of peat is making it a unique whisky and I can enjoy it. I always come back to it every now and then, which means it has found a niche to thrive in despite not being a favorite whisky overall. Is it something entirely different than the standard 10, like some people think? To me - no. It is a cranked up 10, just like you would expect

Mostly medicinal, somewhat ashy smoke. Spirity hit. Difficult to get through the smoke because the alcohol hits the nose when you stick around. Light nose. A bit malty. Some honey. Rather uneventful besides the smoke |

Alcohol and white pepper right away. Then bandaid hits. Sweetness and saltiness turns up behind that together with a citrus sourness. Rather light. No heavy notes. No particular notes taking center stage. Enjoyable. Easier to drink with water. The sweet and sour delivery stays intense, but now a leather note comes through as well. I think the medicinal smoke turns into a leather note when integrated more and when given the chance |

Laphroaig 10 Year Old Cask Strength Batch 16, 58.5%. 25ml sample from HopScotch, March 2025. So, between batches 10 and 15 I owned at least two bottles of each batch, which went down at varying rates, but I've decided that unless they start declaring NCF and natural colour I will be looking to IBs and skipping some of these going forward. A sample will do, if I can find them, to keep my toe in and see whether I should invest in a particular batch. Dark orange. Doesn’t look natural, but could be. Aroma is rusted metal, flamed orange peel, touch of Turkish Delight. Quite a ‘sweet’ vibe and not very Laphroaig-like. Body is watery to slightly thinner than water. Taste is muddled – redcurrant with a hint of iodine and buttery toasted bread. Finishes salty and resinous and lightly smoky with a slightly acrid note. Okay stuff – drinks very easily at the ABV and has some nice flavours, but definitely the weakest batch I’ve tried to my taste, so I’m glad I (completely by chance) skipped this one. 3.475/83 With water down to around 50%, it’s much more seaweedy on the aroma but still airy and ‘sweet’ (perhaps some fresh sherry casks?). Body picks up a bit. Taste is simplistic but the smoke has opened up a little bit more. A little water did help this batch, which is not something that I have thought about previous batches, interestingly. 3.5/84-

The dark color immediately catches the eye and raises expectations of exceptional depth and maturity. This hue seems particularly promising for a pure bourbon cask whisky. However, in the glass, I encounter a certain discrepancy: visually, it suggests more complexity than is ultimately delivered on the palate.

Typical Laphroaig smoke rises powerfully, accompanied by iodine, seaweed, and a distinct medicinal note. Vanilla, a touch of citrus, and a malty sweetness are also present. This profile is polarizing – and I find myself constantly grappling with it. I want to make peace with these pronounced hospital associations, but unfortunately, over the years, I've only partially succeeded. |

On the palate, it displays power and intensity. The cask strength provides presence, but the alcohol doesn't seem optimally integrated to me. The warmth is noticeably dominant and at times overshadows the more subtle notes. At the same time, the pure bourbon cask certainly brings a certain complexity: sweet vanilla, lemon zest, maritime freshness, and ashy peat intertwine. However, the interplay of flavors repeatedly veers into that strongly medicinal direction, which I respect, but don't truly love. |

The finish is long, smoky, iodine-like, and dry with a lingering spiciness. The sweetness counteracts this, but cannot completely tame the edgy character. Conclusion: A powerful, honest representative of the distillery with very good value for money, especially for a cask-strength whisky matured exclusively in bourbon barrels. It offers intensity and considerable complexity, but for me, the flavor profile remains ambivalent. The pronounced medicinal notes and the only moderately integrated alcohol strength prevent me from truly warming to it. Objectively strong, personally conflicted – and yet, given the price, always worth considering. |

Intuitive peat, hospital scent, and barbecue. Spicy barbecue, long intuitive peat. Slight bourbon acetone.
The conclusion here right away: excellent! Maritime notes of salt and a refreshing sea breeze unfold in the nose, accompanied by a hint of iodine and a typically smoky note. A true feast for the senses that only increases the anticipation of the first sip. And the taste keeps what the nose promises! Plenty of smoke and a pleasant saltiness caress the palate, accompanied by a wonderful pinch of pepper that gives the whole thing an exciting spiciness. This batch is truly exceptional and is exactly the Laphroaig I love so much. With the addition of water, the whisky shows a completely new facet. The pepper fades into the background as the salty notes soften and the smoke lingers more subtly. An exciting transformation that makes the pleasure experience even more varied. Conclusion: A clear YES! This batch is a real treat and definitely not a bad buy. If you want to experience Laphroaig at its best, this bottling should not be missed. It is a wonderful example of the outstanding quality of Cask Strength batches.
Compared to batch 15 from last year, sweeter and oilier in the mouth, even slightly yellow fruity on the nose. As always, high level, great batch! I'm really happy and amazed that this bottling can keep the high quality for years.

Laphroaig exactly as it should be: traditional taste, medicinal smoke burning in a campfire off Islay, subtly combined with a slight hint of smoked ham. The caramel taste is not noticeable. Batch 12 is very similar to it. An excellent batch!!! Ps: Not coal and wood heavy garbage like Batch 15 :).

Water edge, clear, unusually dark for a 10 CS... Conclusion: A batch that is more on the sweet side and less on the medicinal side - but still doesn't "forget" its origins...

Pure phenolic bomb, classic Laphroaig profile. First one is greeted by an avalanche of ashy smoke, crushed black pepper, toasted seaweed and iodine. However, after some time and patience, my favorite part of Laphroiag shows up, a dense and comforting malt sweetness that turns the above impressions more damp and herbal (sugary jasmine chung feng tea). More patience still and some light tropical fruitiness appears (honeydew melon, peaches, lime). Some greasy nuts in the background. Adding water turns it smokier here. Very decent casks, I assume they are using plenty of refill bourbon ones and they suit the profile perfectly. Very nice. |

Resinous caramels, toasted paprika. Very straightforward, not much to write about but the experience is great. |

with water: he doesn't need it, it's very drinkable at this strength, but let's try it anyway. It becomes sweet, a bit softer, some spices like cinnamon appear, very delicate and easy to drink, a bit of water takes it to another level Conclusion: It's always a homecoming when you get your nose at the new batch of CS, and yet there's always something new, something different, waiting for you. This time I have more fruit than usual, and the cinnamon note is also something new in the CS. A very good batch. In a direct comparison with the 2023 Cairdeas, the CS beats it by far, and it's a good 20 EUR cheaper. Only one thing doesn't fit: the color! Why do you have to work with quite a lot of E150 and give the whisky such a color that suggests sherry influence?
Another successful 10 Cask Strength, the sweetness of this batch is pleasant. But I'm not the biggest fan of it, it reminds me a little of Batch 007, which was pretty sweet too. I'm missing a bit of the "brutality" in Batch 016...

Extremely drinkable, nothing to analyze to death, but I don't want that with a Laphroaig. This one convinces straight away, and not just because of the perfectly integrated alcohol: Batch #16 is fat, sweet and oily with aromas of warm tar paper with bacon plums. And then at the very end there are actually tropical fruit notes like the very old Laphroaigs. Yummy! That adds another point. Has what it takes to become an all-time favorite.

Neat it's somewhat 1-dimensional but a classic Laphroaig profile, thoughit is one of the sweetest and heaviest Laphroaig drams I've had... The peat is pronounced and well rounded by the sweetness, which makes for a nice long finish within a focused horizon. With water it gets a little rubbery with a pinch of salt and some fruit shows up to round it off when you strike the right balance.

This is how Batch 16 of Laphroaig Cask Strength 10 Year Old is described in the newsletter to the Friends of Laphroaig: "Colour: Its deep golden yellow brings out the sweeter notes of vanilla mixed with sea salt in this single malt bottled at natural cask strength." The previous paragraph says: "Our Original Cask Strength is not chill-filtered and its natural cask strength is not reduced. So you pour it as it comes out of the cask." The last sentence, taken literally, actually implies that no coloring has been added to this bottling. However, this is not explicitly stated in the newsletter. Because this point is important to me and I prefer to drink whisky without coloring, I checked with the Laphroaig team again and asked for clarification. If I get a clear answer, I will report! Update 07/25/2023: Yesterday I received a friendly email with the signature "Kind regards, Laphroaig Team". It confirms (my translation) that to control color a very minimal amount of caramel (0.0002%) is added; at this concentration, it has no effect on aromas and cannot be tasted. I was also given three general reasons for colouring: First, for example, the Laphroaig 10 Year Old is a mix of 10 to 12 year old Laphroaig and there are color differences at different ages. The second reason is the use of ex-Bourbon casks. Even barrels that looked exactly the same and assumed the same properties produced different colors. The last but most important reason is that the color in the glass should always look the same (...when our customers pour a glass of Laphroaig, the color should always look similar in the glass."). Finally, to avoid misunderstandings, the Laphroaig team would like to have the German advertising text revised. This is what it looks like. As always, I thanked you kindly for the nice and detailed answer and gave my reasons for not using dyes in Laphroaig Cask Strength and Laphroaig Càirdeas! As said elsewhere, hope dies last.

85-86 Good whisky. Loved batch 12 (89-90) so atm this is still kind of a letdown for me. Maybe it'll improve over time in an opened bottle. Water flattens it, contrary to batch 12, which in my opinion definitely needed water. Wood notes are a little too obvious in this one.
Tasted at the Utrecht Whisky Tasting Festival 2023, so this review is based on a single glass. This was my first Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength, but after tasting this I can’t wait for my standard “10” to run out. The great body and mouth feel of an undiluted whisky, but without the knock out punch of the alcohol that sometimes comes with it.

Printing, offset printing in aroma and taste, this was in laphroaig 10 sherry, and now here) Instead of a deep malt heart in the 90s, the machine-typographic component now prevails. The finish is a little too dry in my opinion compared to other releases, but still cool!

Joins the ranks of the more tannin-heavy and woody batches with caramel aromas. I thought coloring was going out of style with Islay whisky. When it comes to Speysiders, I can still understand it. Here it is superfluous. Still a good CS, between 87 and 88.5 points. The aromas are too intense, too clumsy, but sometimes you want that. I'll put it this way, if the whisky has been in the bottle for 20 years, then that's 89 points, but that's too much and at the same time not enough.

88.5 Settles after 20 minutes. Then I get a lot of bacon, smoked ham, fudge, and salty smoke. Too much artificial sweetness, not enough fruit. Water has little influence here, but takes the edge off. So it's a maximum of almost 89 points, but more like 88. |

88.5 Lots of tannins on the palate, a chocolaty sweetness. Again, the alcohol isn't fiery and really ok for a 10 year old CS. Let me put it this way: a solid malt for friends of the modern 10 CS. Water makes it fruitier, but also simpler. |

Another pretty decent Laphroaig Cask Strength. For me, it's not quite on a par with Batch 12, which I also rated, and slightly better than Batch 14. I only had samples of Batches 13 and 15. Both bottlings were OK, but nothing special, 15 is better than 13. Batch 16 is a bit different to No. 12, here in Batch 16 I somehow have even more fruity spiciness, and thus slightly sweeter sherry influences, but it's almost as good: salty, sweet, caramelly, medicinally smoky, full-bodied, edgy, wild, with very well-integrated alcohol. A firework for the taste receptors, as long as you're a Laphroaig fan. For around €75, it's an absolute bargain when I think of the new Ardbeg 13 J that I just tasted. Now, in December, I compared the current Laphroaig L 1.0 with it. Here too, the Batch #16 Cask Strength wins, especially when you compare the prices. Update 06.10.2024: After many drams and comparisons with other batches, it is firmly at 90 P.

Context: Second bottle. Quality was the same (as expected). The difference in grading is me, not the bottle. it's a 4 in 1. Oxidation and water change things a lot. Conclusion: Everything a cask strength should be because it changes with air and water. This is a 'make your own favourite' the definitive Laphroaig. Opinion: I recommend to keep it in the glass for 30 minutes, or in an opened bottle for 2-12 months (longer idk), dilute with water to 45-50.

Since I think this cask strength Laphroaig has improved to a new level, it may be worthy to compare to batch 001, probably the benchmark of this version of Laphroaig. The peat and malt are similar in terms of concentration. But batch 001 is sweeter and longer aftertaste although batch 006 comes close. The peat aspect in 016 is more refined, so I would give them comparable scores. High praise indeed, considering 001 came out on 2009 at $64.95 and 009 comes out at $89.99 in 2023. I consider the $25 increase due to increased demand and inflation.

It’s… ok. I was maybe hoping for a bit more considering I’ve rated some earlier batches 88. This one’s ashy and smoky with a side of bourbon wood fruit and salted licorice, but the iodine and sauna notes I associate with Laphroaig have taken a back seat and this batch doesn’t seem to take that well to water. This is probably less an issue with the batch and more with the general direction Laphroaig and other Islay distilleries are going. [edit] Later into the bottle, there is a farmy undercurrent to the peat that isn't at all Laphroaig. -1 point for that. [edit 2] Digging into my last sample I find quite attacking woody, resinous parts here. You can for sure find the Laphroaig tastes as well but it has a certain overoaked vibe that wasn't there in the earlier batches, and an ashy bitterness I first found in a Quarter Cask bottle over ten years ago. The balance is off.

I can't remember any 10 CS that has such a (comparatively) fruity-sweet nose. Don't get us wrong: it has everything you'd expect from a Laphroaig 10 CS, but on top of that it delivers a sweetness that I haven't had in a 10 CS before, and which at times made me doubt that this was only and exclusively Ex-Bourbon Casks were used. With his profile he fits very well with this year's Càirdeas White Port & Madeira, here a Barry MacAffer style could definitely emerge. A very (I don't think I ever wrote that in connection with a 10 CS) quaffable (quaffable, the Whiskybase software turns my German term "süffig" into "enjoyable", which from my point of view, however, applies to every Batch of the 10 CS applies - quite amusing: with this addition in brackets, the "enjoyable" actually becomes a "quaffable", if I remove the addition, the software makes it just an "enjoyable" again) batch, which despite its accessibility preserves the character of the series.

Ah yes, such a 10 CS always has a kind of coming home. Now Batch 016 shows, in addition to the well-loved standard program (peat smoke en masse, warm tar paper, Hansaplast, the smell of station 9 in the local hospital, dried seaweed, sea spray, maybe a little Wadden Sea feeling), which one always hopes to do in the next batch - and yes, here it is again - a note in the nose that I didn't expect here: fruity sweetness. And no, that doesn't mean the dried apricots or the lemon or the lime that one or the other batch had, no, this batch smells clearly of sweet blackberries, raisins and dried figs. amazing. A little later, spicy bacon is added, a mild mixture of spices (no herbs of any kind, such as in Herb Batch #010). The peat smoke note increases in intensity over time, even displacing the fruit a bit, so that seaweed, tar paper and hansaplast have a little more room to develop. |

Served with warm machine oil, smoked ham and smoked fish. At the beginning there is no trace of the sweet fruit from the nose. And not later either, as it turns out. Smoked peach wedges, dried apricots, some lime juice, charred wood, pepper. High accessibility without sacrificing character. |

10CS batch1, Batch16, Cairdeas 2024 vertical review When I drank Laphroaig Batches 13, 14, 15, and 16 vertically, I remember thinking that 16 wasn't bad. However, when compared to Batch 1, it just felt like a deteriorated Laphroaig. Since I evaluated the score based on Batch 1, Batch 16 felt like it suffered in terms of score. The exquisite balance of Batch 1 was quite satisfying, but Batch 16 couldn't match this perfection. Even when I tasted it again, Batch 16 had too much oak nuance. As for Cardious 2024, the PX cask involvement created a completely different note composition from the 10 CS series, making a direct comparison a bit ambiguous. If I had to rate it, I would say that it is sweet and smooth, with a characteristic meaty feel created by the combination of PX sherry and peat.

Batch 1: 89 Smoky (4) Seaweed (3) Medicinal (2) Iodine (2) Ash (3) Pineapple (4) Apple (4) Specification Honey (4) Vanilla (3) Lime Peel (3) Grain (2) Coconut (2) - The peat nuance is strong from the beginning. The fruity aroma harmoniously blends with the complex peat nuance, resulting in a remarkably well-balanced palate. The overall aroma is bright and refreshing. Tropical fruit nuances reminiscent of pineapple blend well with the peat, while the refreshing tartness of apple adds a light touch. - The sweet scent other than fruit is also light, and the floral nuance is minimal, giving it a honey-like feel. - Initially, the vanilla nuance is around a 3, but as it sits in the glass, it gradually intensifies to around a 3.5. The lime peel nuance blends in appropriately, providing a nice balance. - A subtle grain aroma is felt in the base, and the nutty flavor of coconut is also added. Batch 16: 87 Honey (4) Medicinal (3) Iodine (3) Ash (3) Salt (2) Lemon Peel (3) Pineapple (3) Coconut (2) Light Oak (4) Dark Chocolate (3) - The balance is heavily skewed toward the sweet note. The honey nuance is most noticeable. - The peat follows suit, but is weaker than expected. There are some medicinal nuances and iodine, but they don't overpower the bright, sweet notes. - The nuance of pineapple mixed with a sour feel is just right. Coconut is laid out as a base. - The light oak aroma is quite strong. - The soft bitterness of dark chocolate, which forms the canvas for the above fragrances, is felt. Among dark chocolates, the cocoa content doesn't feel particularly high. Cardius 2024: 88 dried figs (4), raisins (3), dried cranberries (2), brown sugar (4), smoked ham (3), oranges (3), dark chocolate (3), leather (3), medicinal (2), seaweed (2), Brazil nuts (3) - The nuances of PX casks are quite prominent. Dried fruit nuances such as dried figs and raisins, as well as the sweetness of brown sugar, are strongly felt. - The composition has a rather meaty aroma, but the saltiness of salt is mixed in, creating a distinct smoked ham-like feeling. The leather nuance that follows the meatiness is also more pronounced than the intensity. - The citrus is also more influenced by PX casks than bourbon casks, and comes across as nuances of dried cranberries and oranges. - The peat feels overshadowed by the other notes. It's subtle, with the exception of the smoked ham, and the bitterness of Brazil nuts adds to the subtlety. The bitterness, added to the smooth creaminess, is reminiscent of dark chocolate with a much higher cocoa content than the aforementioned dark chocolate. |

Batch 1: 89 Pineapple (4) Coconut (4) Honey (5) Flowers (4) Dried Lemon Peel (4) Ash (4) Salt (3) Olive Oil (3) Apple (3) Tropical Fruit (3) Nutmeg (3) Burnt Pepper (4) Vanilla (3) Light Oak (3) - Similar to the fragrance, it's quite bright. The initial notes are strongly reminiscent of tropical fruits, with pineapple. However, the addition of coconut creates a base that feels oily and smooth, yet refreshing. - A strong honey-sweetness with a significant floral nuance. The floral notes are reminiscent of white flowers. The citrus notes are slightly subdued and add a touch of bitterness, a dry sensation reminiscent of dried lemon peel. This balances well with the oily, sweet notes that precede it. The ash-like nuance of wood burning is quite strong, balancing it out with the citrus. The saltiness adds a savory kick, enhancing the flavor. - As the coconut nuance fades, it changes into a refreshing, oily nuance like olive oil. - The freshness of apple and the nuances of tropical fruits other than pineapple add layers. - The aroma of nutmeg rises gently through the nasal passages, while the spice of burnt pepper stands out on the palate, creating a balanced finish. The combination of a moderate amount of vanilla and a hint of light oak creates an exquisite balance. Batch 16: 88 Specifications Honey (5) Medicinal (4) Iodine (3) Ash (3) Brazil Nuts (3) Dark Chocolate (4) Pineapple (3) Lemon Peel (3) Pepper (4) Nutmeg (3) Coconut (2) - The sweetness of honey is very strong. It is mixed with a slight floral note, so it feels like a mixture of sage and acacia honey. - The peat is strong, with a strong medicinal feel. Nuances of iodine and wood ash also accompany it. - A moderately bitter, Brazil nut-like flavor is felt. A subtle coconut flavor is felt, and the creaminess gradually intensifies, leading to dark chocolate. The pineapple nuances don't stand out as much, overshadowed by the other flavors. The citrus from the lemon peel also contributes to the balance. - The spice of pepper is quite strong, and the scent of nutmeg is moderate. Cardius 2024: 89 Cream (4), Dark Chocolate (4), Mocha Coffee (3), Blackcurrant Jam (4), Blueberry Puree (3), Raisins (3), Dried Apricots (3), Toffee (4), Brazil Nuts (3), Nutmeg (3), Ash (3), Salt (3) - Quite creamy and smooth. It has a strong dark chocolate flavor, with a high cocoa content and a hint of cocoa. The dark flavor also has nuances of mocha coffee. - The berry nuance is quite strong, reminiscent of blackcurrant jam. It's sweet, yet light. Beneath it lies a light, sweet, and slightly tart blueberry puree. There's also a hint of raisin. - If you think about the sweetness separately, it comes across as the sweetness of toffee. - The bitterness of Brazil nuts is just right. - The spice of nutmeg provides a good balance. - The peat doesn't exert as much force as you might expect. There's a nice blend of wood ash and a hint of salt that adds a savory note. It feels like the seasoning from a PX cask. |

Batch 1: 88 Burnt pepper (4) Seaweed (3) Ash (3) Salt (3) Pineapple (4) Specification Honey (4) Lemon peel (4) Nuts (2) Dark chocolate (2) The finish is medium to long. While the overall notes end at a medium length, the intense peat nuance lingers. The subtle, oily sweetness and slightly salty peat nuances linger, extending the finish. - The intense spice of the pepper hits you quite strongly at first. It's not overly spicy, so it feels like you've just scraped off the peppery crust of smoked ham. The seaweed nuance is quite substantial. While the intensity itself is moderate, it's distinct and blends well with the ash-like nuance of burnt wood. The salt nuance gradually intensifies, adding a salty tang to the palate and enhancing the savory flavor. - The nuances of pineapple are strongly felt, along with the sweetness of honey without a floral note. The citrus added with the pineapple feels like lemon peel. - A slightly oily nuance gives a healthy, nutty feel. The finish has subtle dark chocolate nuances. Batch 16: 87 Medicinal (4) Iodine (4) Ash (3) Salt (3) Dark Chocolate (3) Coffee (3) Honey (4) Lemon Peel (4) Pineapple (2) Peat dominates the palate. Medicinal nuances are strongly felt, and iodine follows. As the peat gradually becomes more pronounced, a hint of wood ash follows suit, and a subtle tobacco ash-like aroma is added. The saltiness is subtle at the beginning, but becomes more pronounced from the middle, adding a savory flavor. - It has the nuance of dark chocolate with a fairly high cocoa content. It also feels like coffee. The sweetness of honey is strong for a moment, then fades away. Lemon peel is also strong for a moment, but this gradually weakens, leaving only a hint. - The nuances of pineapple are hidden among the other notes, making them stand out. Cardius 2024: 88 Raisins (4), Nutmeg (4), Pepper (3), Salt (4), Dark Chocolate (4), Brazil Nuts (4), Ash (3), Seaweed (3), Lemon (2) - A finish with a distinct PX cask flavor. The length is medium, but the balance is quite good. - As the light raisin nuances rise (like a red grape version of Shine Muscat, but a bit different from Ruby Romant and more like an imaginary grape), the spices are appropriately mixed to create an exquisite balance. The scent of nutmeg is strong, but there is a stimulating pepperiness. - Although it says salt, it has a strong meaty taste like smoked ham at first, and then as the meaty taste decreases, a strong savory and salty taste remains. The dark chocolate nuance is also quite strong, with a cocoa content of around 40%. The saltiness of the salt is mixed in, creating a chocolatey texture with grains of salt embedded within the chocolate, maximizing its savory flavor. After a while, the bitterness fades into the astringency of Brazil nuts. - As time passes, the ash from burning wood becomes more pronounced, along with the saltiness of seaweed. There is a subtle lemon citrus note. |

Haven't had batch 15, but compared to #14 there's a return to some fruitiness again.

You can't go wrong with those batches. Fully flavoured and they can even match an Octomore in peaty intensity. The good thing is these recent 10 Cask Strength batches have become a bit cheaper and more available in my country since about 2022. I compared it to batch 12, it was (almost) as good.

Dry and ashy peat, pretty heavy. Sweet vanilla, banana, some lemon and apple juice, followed by a fresh spiciness of cardamom and peppermint. An impression of wet wood and espresso emerge from the background. |

Heavily peated of course. Beyond the peat lemon curd, pineapple and banana milkshake can be distinguished. The fresh spices and coffee of the nose slowly translate to the palate, coupled with some red peppers now. It's also quite mineral and maritime, Laphroaig is distilled practically on the beach after all. A thick and intense palate! |

Heavily peated again, more ashy than medicinal now. The fruits, coffee, fresh spices and saltiness all return. Lingers long! |

Diluted to 50%. Quite brash and aggressive, absolutely Laphroaig. I haven't had a cigarette in five years, now I want one.

Powerful, complex, captivating. Fresh cigarette smoke, sandalwood incense so intense I had to double-check if I'd inadvertently rubbed some on my hands. Toffee, leather, diesel. |

Full and rounded mouthfeel: oily, not overly so. Flavors are aggressive. Rich new full-grain leather: I've bitten into a wallet. Fades to iodine. As it opens up, a touch of sweetness emerges- sherry, honey, caramel at the back. |

Long. Dry grass, ash, peat, iodine, heavy oak. Fades to stale cigar smoke that lingers in the mouth: if I hold my nose, I can convince myself that I've smoked one. |
It says on the bottle label that they recommend you add water and you get these YouTube bloggers that insist you add water to everything and it's absolute nonsense. Embrace the monster and you will tame it and learn to love it.

We all know what we are getting with your average Laphroaig 10 and it's pretty consistent but this is turned up to 11. Cured meats of age. Sea salt, beach fire, a Balrog roar in the face. Even at 58% this is dare I say gentle on the nose hairs. It's as if Johnny Storm was nosing a Laphroaig. With a few drops of water the intensity has gone and as the saying goes it's the watered down version. |

This is the last dram of the bottle and I have drank all of it ohh natural. But tonight I will add water. This is very palatable. Lots of intense flavours. There is nothing medicinal about this whatsoever. It's maritime all the way. Lots of body. You know you are in a fight. With water that chewy mouth feel has gone and it has been replaced by something more artificial. |

The finish will probably go on until the wee small hours. It's bold and it's brash. Death by cremation. With water there is more spice but the maritime is more inland. |
A typical Laphroaig Cask Strength, one might say, in addition to the classic Laphroaig parameters also nice and sweet and fruity. From my personal point of view, only the finish differs from its predecessors and presents itself with a bitterness that I don't like and only disappears with the next sip. Maybe it's due to the daily form - 19.08.2023

A typical Laphroaig with the well-known medicinal note. The alcohol whips up a little, but is also easy to drink without water.
Aroma: iodine, herbaceous, distinct - but when aired it is beautifully honey, caramel, creamy, toasted marshmelow (egg cognac) Taste: an explosion of flavors, smokiness, barbecue, spiciness, wood, dark fruit - a really beautiful shot
Smoked meat, fatty steak, grilled over charcoal, melon and banana, salted caramel and sea breeze. The smoke is quite persistent in taste, the sweet tones recede under its pressure and alcohol notes.

The interesting thing was that when I first smelled it, I smelled something like fresh green peas... A slight surprise was also the pronounced sweetness, which I did not expect in this whisky.
It's been a long time since I drank such a good draft of Laphroaig at cask strength. Sweet, very fruity, with a lot of smoke, forest notes, wet earth and smoked meat. The aroma is a memory of childhood flavors with dumplings topped with bacon cracklings.

Need to test this one against the 003, 006, 008 batches to see if it stands up. Until then 91 it is. Great version, woody, peaty, sweet, dirty, and certainly a loud batch. Amazing taste, fantastic finish. This seems one of them great ones! Fantastic whisky! May 25, tested against 10, 11 & 15. Down to 90 it goes... Still great stuff
Medicinal peat, brine maritime notes, yellow fruits, vanilla and some ash. The Laphroaig spirit elevates the bourbon refill barrel influences and makes for a more exciting dram. About the same league as their 10yo sherry finish.

I really love the 10 CS serie. None of these bottlings are really bad. I like batch #5, batch #8 snd batch #13. This batch is another cracking bottling.. Nose: A good amount of sandalwood, bonfires, ashes and kippers. Whispers of almond paste too, as well as tarry peat, salty Dutch liquorice, and plaster. There’s also whiffs of barbecued meat and hessian. Taste: Sweet arrival, but aggressive also. Syrupy vanilla with chili heat, pepper and ginger. And then some iodine too, as well as plenty of olive brine, some TCP and asphalt. Quite an in-your-face kind of whisky. Finish: Long, ashy and slightly dry and somewhat medicinal. The Laphroaig 10 CS series packs a punch, yet always delivers an incredible aroma. When it comes to intensity and smokiness, the Laphroaig CS series is hard to beat.
I always say:"If I can only drink an under €80 Whisky for the rest of my life. It'd be Laphroaig 10 CS". And while there always is a difference in quality, it is always really good.

A bit on the sweet side for Laphroaig, with a lot of stone fruits like overripe apricots and peaches. Followed by a mix of maple syrup and lime. This is then immediately replaced by the oh so lovely hospital notes and some fresh tar. I'd say the nose is quite maritime for a Laphroaig. |

Again quite a fresh and sweet start with maple syrup and some honey. But this is then followed up by the lovely medicinal peat Laphroaig is so famous for. Then a lot of salt and full turn to maple syrup. Funny. |

Long, very drying. The sweetness is almost gone, what remains is such a precise maritime peatiness. A hospital thats been burnt to the ground by the Joker but right next to the sea, while the wint goes onshore. The aftermath reveals a very mineralic note almost reminiscent of Highland Park. |
