49 — «no rough edges, disappointment all along the line», короткий сухой финиш [r13]; «Too medicinal» [r54]; 74/75 баллов с акцентом на дым/торф и пепельный финиш [r47][r57]; «не мой любимый Laphroaig» [r127]; «херес не дружит с торфом, слишком тяжёлый релиз» [r131]; «негармонично, искусственно, не хватает специй стандарта» [r132]; «разочарование и пустота, нет интенсивности и послевкусия» [r137]; «неприятное кислое послевкусие» [r126]; «failed bottling… distillery character… no longer as recognizable» [r142]; «tastes too little like Laphroaig… too much like 08/15 smoker» [r147]. Редкие детали вкуса включают «cucumbers» [r146], «lovage, wormwood and angostura» [r157] и «cheesecake with raisins… BBQ» [r160].

while I can see the appeal of a sherried Laphroaig, it's not for me. Laphroaig smoke and sherry influences do not seem to be very well integrated to me. It's not bad whisky, I'd just rather have the regular 10 or quarter cask ones.

thick, syruppy sherry notes dominate here, which is impressive considering they have to overcome the Laphroaig smoke. Raising, dates, new leather. instead of typical Laphroaig smoke I get tar, wet stone and some ashes. |

This is some good stuff! Laphroaig 10y on steroids! Yes! More ABV and more flavor. But also more tannins and bitters towards the end. Soooo a great playful nose with sweetness, leather and caramel, a great taste with kippery and maritime elements but a finish that is less deep and more bitter than anticipated. Overall a beautiful whisky! Really one of my favorites!

Colour: brownish yellow, dark copper. And what was more noticeable: “The most richly flavored of all scotch whiskys” was replaced by “One of the most richly flavoured whiskys”. What the f happened ?? ???? Overall, a very complex whisky, the marriage worked very well. It is not nauseatingly sweet, but the oloroso gives rather an extra layer, which mainly dominates on the nose at the beginning. Highly recommended to all Islay lovers! ????

Soft, delicate smoky peat whisky, thin, polished phenolic strokes, allow, in addition to the main theme, to consider a decent palette of shades and midtones of the background in the totality that form a three-dimensional picture, among the shortcomings - slenderness and wateriness.

It’s a good whisky, but I don’t think it’s a great one. The nose is delicious and fairly balanced, but the sherry really takes over on the sip. It’s a bit unfortunate for this whisky that my recent point of comparison is the 2021 PX-cask Cairdeas. That whisky was about as sweet as this one, but had much more savoury and smoky depth. I don’t think this is as good as Triple Wood, either.
A slightly overdone but very enjoyable Laphroaig.
Nose: Very pleasant smoked sherry, medical vibes, iodine, very pleasant salty smoke, lots of leather, old leather furniture but also newly bought leather shoes or belt, grilled bacon, tobacco, cinnamon, campfire ashes, milk chocolate, lots of fruit: figs, cherries, plum jam, dried fruit. Taste: A hit of large salty smoke, combined with ashes from a freshly burned fire and hospital smells with iodine at the forefront, sweet caramel, bitter chocolate, raisins in brine, smoked plum, forest fruit marmalade, pleasantly salty, sea salt combined with salty nuts, under the nose, some leather and wet tobacco, some spices and old astringent wood, herbs. Finish: Bitter chocolate and heavily salty smoke, spicy, medium long, salty, leathery, tobacco, burnt caramel, herbs.
Iodine, hospital, sea, plum, cherries, wet wood.
Dark, mahogany color. Oily structure.

It is not very volatile, rather secretive. Unless it's a matter of the previously tasted Bowmore. Traces of peat and medicine. Dried fruits. Raisins. Caramel. Toffee. Dessert chocolate. A bit more medicinal and forest notes start coming out from underneath. Forest Moss. Salt. Sea breeze. Dates. Dessert chocolate. Hazelnuts. However, the nose is a bit hidden, even on the next approach. The peanuts have arrived. |

Very controversial whisky, in my opinion. It has wonderful balance between sherry and peat part of the whisky. From the other hand, it too vulgar and smack you in the nose. And, finally, has long finish

The distinct character of Laphroaig is well complemented by the influence of the sherry finish. However, the dominant character is still undeniably "Laphroaig" rather than the sherry. If you're a fan of Laphroaig, there's no reason not to buy this.

Love laphroaig, enjoy sherry, but this one is not well done. Strong medicinal Laphroaig peat, but the sherry feels like it does not belong. Too many intense flavours that are not integrated. It’s almost as if someone mixed in young sherry straight into the bottle. Peated cherry cough syrup. It’s not undrinkable and I have my moments when I reach for this, but those moments are few and far between.
Color: I actually only know Laphroaig a lot lighter. I have no idea whether it is the sherry barrel influence or whether the still has helped with coloring Nose: The whisky is cold. Fresh from the packing station. Still a wonderful Laphroaignase. Smoky, iodic, somewhat ashy, tobacco, cherry, slightly sweet, zero alcoholic. Everything is very fine, not brutal. I like it. Mouth: Wow - it pushes hard, full ashes, sweet on the tip of the tongue, then more dry than sweet, then switches back again. Dark fruity. After the sip, the nose has hardly any smokiness (as is so often the case with Laphroaig and me), no burning, tarry. All in all, I would think full Islay ;-) Finish: stays in the mouth for a long time. Becomes dry and woody. Burned oak. Cold ashtray. Conclusion: For friends of smoky Islay whisky and for every Laphi friend a must, I would think. I find it round and sufficiently complex. Nice interplay between sweet and dry, sufficient fruitiness and fat Laphroaigaschigkeit. Appropriately trained nerds will probably get a lot more flavors out of here. But that is (for me) not an Islay copy, but the full Islay broadside. But not brutal, but nicely round and balanced. But you have to like the strong Laphroaig taste. After a few sips, the nose is completely detached from the smokiness containing iodine. What remains is a fruity, floral, sherry barrel-ripened fragrance with delicate smoky notes in the background. If it was undiluted, I would give it 89 points. An Islay connoisseur might give him more (or less). PS Still in the mouth after 30 minutes. I'll go brush my teeth ;-)
John and Simon von Laphroaig compared him in today's livestream (03/30/21) with a "Triple Wood on steroids". In a direct comparison, I found the good old TW better and rounder. Unfortunately, TW is / is definitely discontinued. Fortunately, the new Sherry Oak 10 is neither chill-filtered nor colored and has an age indication. Also consistent 48% alcohol. Composition: 25% full maturity in Refill Oloroso Hogsheads + 75% double matured in ex Bourbon Casks for 9 years, the latter then finished for 12 months in "Oloroso impregnated casks". TW for currently around 40 € is also a clear PL winner against the new Sherry Oak 10 for around 70 €. Both are delicious - especially if you like it sweet.
Laphroaig is definitely good and most importantly not standard. Isla in combination with sherry is almost always a win-win! 10 Sherry is neither complicated nor very deep, but tasty and charismatic.
I like it better than the standard 10. Very tasty. I only expected the smoke to be more present.

The normal Laphroaig power in connection with a sherry barrel - but somehow the spark doesn't want to jump over so completely despite this actually attractive combination.

Laphroaig Sherry Oak not only matures in both bourbon and sherry casks. The malt then receives an additional Oloroso sherry finish in European oak casks.
Cool! A worthy alternative to the classic 10. Mega aromatic, drinkable) Not to say that it is better than the basic 10, let's say it is cool in its own way.

Typical Laphroaig (medicinal smoke) but somewhat "muted" by the sherry but lots of blueberries and cherries. In addition, a note of meat directly on the grill. The Laphroaig note is clearer in the mouth, but it is super supported by the fruity sweetness. Which harmoniously rounds off the entire mouthfeel!

You can do it, but you don't have to, because the first time I tried it, it tasted like a somewhat botched PX Cask Laphi, and the second time it tasted like a smooth drinking Laphi à la Bowmore 15yo.

In the world of whisky, there is always a lot of criticism and (often justified) moaning about prices. It seems that the South Islay distilleries in particular can no longer please anyone. Praise is therefore rare. With this bottling, however, you have to give Laphroaig credit for managing to really convey one of the most popular flavour profiles (heavily peated "dark" sherry) at a fair price of currently €55-80. All of this with a 10y. Age Statement and 48% ABV. I am satisfied, for one. I will definitely buy it again. A great daily dram that is really good to sip. Hopefully it will stay with us for a while longer.

Its a nice one. You definitely taste a lot of the sherry cask, which works well with the typical Laphroaig smoke. 48% ABV is okay, but actually cask strength would have been a lot better.
It is of medium viscosity and its bouquet is of relatively strong intensity. I have aromas of intense peat smoke, dark fruits, raisins, nuts, maritime notes, leather and tobacco. Relatively flat. A good balance between sweetness and dryness in terms of taste. The alcohol is relatively well integrated and it has a relatively heavy body.
The 48% are pleasantly involved. Only a slight sweetness comes through from the sherry because the medicinal smoke is so dominant. With the water there is also a little vanilla.

An extremely tasty and extremely gentle Islaymalt with a wonderfully fine fruity peat note! ... but unfortunately (except for the nose) this wonderful malt has little in common with a Laphroaig. In contrast to the normal 10 bottle, there is no taste of phenol, mineral smoke, seaweed and algae, and absolutely no comparison to the CS bottlings that I love; here I miss the campfire, the embers and the burnt wood. As already mentioned, a damn tasty malt, but not a typical Laphi for me!

A really good dram for an affordable €50-60. Very pleasant fruity notes on the nose with raisins, spices and leather combined with campfire smoke. On the palate it reveals its 10 years compared to the Laphi PX. No medicinal smoke and seaweed influences, as with other Laphi's, but balanced sherry notes with tobacco, red fruits and forest honey. Everything nicely integrated into the smoke. The 48% give the dram its power. Great!! Departure of medium length with gentle oak and smoky notes. Price-performance victory over others
This whisky achieves the feat of delivering the full power of Laphroaig while remaining elegant throughout. The sherry doesn't seem fake, but wonderfully underscores what's already there. The blackberry in the smell doesn't fight against the medicinal smoke, but elicits an exciting smoked fish note from it. In the mouth, the sherry creates a smoother texture so that the taste is more reminiscent of grilled honey ham. I find it difficult to price it. Tasted blind, I would say that it is definitely worth its almost 60€. On the other hand, Laphroaig can almost double the price for a higher bottling strength plus sherry finish compared to the regular 10s.

Ok, it’s what you might expect if you have a sherry cask rendition from Laphroaig, no obvious faults, a good marriage however lacks something to make it stand out. The cask influences seems a bit safe, to ensure you don’t lose the Laphroaig character. Good but left me asking for more.

- a very tasty malt from the island of Islay - significantly better than the standard 10 J. - tasty but the price of 60€ is too high => should be on par with the Quarter Cask in terms of price, so around €40 would probably be justified

PALATE Sherry, copper, cinnamon, graham, smoke, nuts, citrus peels, plastic and touch herbal and inky/iodine. All the better for not being great? I know, sounds stupid but bear with me. The thing is, it’s very easy to get causing up chasing the next best dram, searching for illusive smells and tastes and decrying this rare bottle or that limited edition release to be mana from heaven, peated or sherried ambrosia but a lot of the time, at least for me, the real moments of joy are when you can switch off, pour a few fat fingers of a decent scotch and just enjoy the moment. You see, it’s like being an art critic, or any other critic. The joy is always being tempered with a multitude of other things, expectations, biases, intellectual or distillery snobbery, even peer pressure and the pressure to conform to the latest take from online influencers. It’s easily done once you start going down the whisky rabbit hole things change, you can lose your way and in the dark, just like that funny looking little chap with his precious ring, you change. Maybe not to such a degree though. So going back to basics or finding your centre or just getting your head out your arse is important to do once in a while and, for me, it’s good whisky (note note great) that does it for me. It takes away the pressure to be endlessly impressed by this or that and let me just drink and enjoy the drink. No strings attached. It’s liberating. And here we are with this bottle. On the nose and it’s recognisably Laphroaig. There’s a medicinal peat, seashore, a little camphor, some smoked seaweed and brine. A bit of preserved lemons but only a drop and then a little pine sap, old leather and then is dunked in sherry. Nutty, brown and a little backbone of orange oil, balsamic and a little menthol note. It’s not a massive nose. There better. But it’s very cosy and easy. Not too much of this or that. In the mouth and the arrival of good, sweet sherry slides quickly into peat and iodine and salt and liquorice and ash. A little citrus note and more salt and peat smote. A toffee note, Everton mints spring to mind. It get progressively more salty and medicinal but the sherry holds its hand all the way down the lane with a sticky toffee thrown in for good measure, but it is the salinity and the medicinal sticking plasters that dominate in the end. It’s all just right. This is the kind of whisky that you can put on a table between friends and just use it to lubricate an evening and it will. It will pass you by and you’ll have a great time. In the same way you could drink it in a pub and have a great night because the whisky would not be the star and sometimes that’s what good whisky needs to be. Just good. Because good means it’s not the centre of attention and that can be rather marvellous in itself.
Awesome sherry "smoky", with a good balance of sweet and sour berries, phenols and spices.
Pretty neat, not too complicated, easy to drink, I would almost pass for a port cask

I wanted to love this but there is a heat in the finish that really drags down the whole event. It’s not overly sherried, which I really appreciate. It isn’t terribly complex but overall this is a nice, richer variation of the standard 10-year old, so I guess I would say, mission accomplished! I have a second bottle for the bunker, and I’m glad I do. Retasted as a part of The Whisky Show Advent Calendar 2024: WOW, what a difference. No heat in the finish at all, and the richness is dialed up a notch. I feel like this makes so much more sense now, not sure why the full bottle never showed this well.

Classic Laphroaig iodine, medicinal peat smoke. Honey, milk chocolate, apple cider, and a bit musty at times. With water, the sweetness becomes more prominent, with honey and vanilla. The nose is the highlight, but again not overly sherried. On the re-taste, OMG very clear sweet and juicy barbecue sauce, grilled meats, and clove cigarettes. Good for another point in the score. |

Soft and sweet. A gush of honey, then becoming sharp and a bit stale. A sense of motor oil and machinery. Not too complex, this beast. I don’t get any savory or meaty notes. On the re-taste, still soft, but rich and decadent, undeniable sweetness, and that wonderful combination of peat and sherry, with lingering grassy and herbal elements. Good for an extra two points in the score. |

A peat blast, then turning into sharp, astringent oak. Cough syrup and menthol. Espresso and grapefruit juice. With time, a sense of dirty sherry lingers in the background. But the problem is an acetone flavor that brings everything down, especially when neat. On the re-taste, no heat at all, and a lingering note of chalk which increases the interest. Good for a whopping 5 extra points in the score. |

N) medicinal, earth, iodine, acacia honey, raisins, dark chocolate, grapefruit, orange "A well-balanced peat + sherry." Initially, the alcohol feels a bit sharp, but it fades away quickly with some breathing. The sherry doesn’t overpower the peat, nor does the peat dominate the sherry — they achieve a nice harmony. Behind Laphroaig’s signature medicinal peat, there’s a touch of earth and iodine, followed by deep sweetness from acacia honey, raisins, and dark chocolate. As it breathes, the peat softens, and the citrus notes of grapefruit and orange become more prominent. |

Behind the citrus, there’s the sweetness of raisins, along with earthy peat and a smoky finish. Dark chocolate adds a bittersweet note toward the end. This leans more toward oloroso sherry, with moderate sweetness and a hint of nuttiness, rather than the sticky sweetness of PX. |

The sherry scent is incredibly strong. It's hard to believe it's Laphroaig... In terms of taste, there is a cool, cola-like sweetness and notes of wood. It is better than Laphroaig 10, but I don't think the difference in taste is significant enough to warrant a huge score.
The nose is slightly smoky and fruity. Typical of Laphroaig, there are also herbal/medicinal notes. Very complex in flavor, but absolutely delicious. Herbs, smoke, and sherry are perfectly balanced. It has a meadow-like quality, followed by bacon, spice, and BBQ notes in the finish. Insane!
нос 88 · вкус 88 · финиш 87
There are quite a few Notes already, so I'll keep it short. Lots of sherry and dark wood tones. This also makes the Laphroaig smoke a little less typical and has a more subdued effect. Almost goes in the direction of wood smoke. Plus a few herbs. The whisky is well made and the finish doesn't look fake either. You can drink well. But I like laphis from the bourbon barrel or with a more subtle sherry influence better. For me, that goes better with the smoke from Laphroaig.
Fair quality to the price, significant sherry and ashy nosing Palate is kind of brown sugar sweet taste, wood taste more ashy. Comfirt drinking.

At the start, very spicy and tasty sherry, deep and fruity, more blackberries and blueberries than blackcurrants, and without any acidity. Then a smoky and tarry side sets in, it's humid, tropical. A thick peat with sea salt, iodized, spice it all up. Strawberries and raspberries crushed. Cranberries. Burgundy. At the end, we feel a medicinal touch. Marriage is quite effective. In the mouth, the peat is more present, but it remains very soft, the fruits dominate. Some spices grate the tongue. Loam and spongy earth, volcanic rock, lignite, iron filings, nails, tires and rubber. Coarse raw salt. Sufficiently long finish, in the same vein as the palate, where the fruits gradually fade away to give way to a black and oily earth. Then it's ashy, like licking the bottom of an ashtray. Tinplate in retro-olfaction. Finally, a slight acidity, on redcurrant. We are going to reassure the fans by confirming that it is excellent, the sherry is very round, deep and intense, the finish especially is very nice. https://ilikesky2020.blogspot.com/2021/05/laphroaig-10-yo-sherry-oak-finish.html

Lots of rancio on the nose....Slightly underwhelming in the first taste, but the phenolic peat flares up and the finish is fantastic.... I love the finish of really old tasting sherry casks but I wish the phenolic spirit was more assertive and concentraed... and the price is ridiculous. This, like many other unconvincing sherry cask whiskies is only 'finished' in a sherry cask. So, like the Bowmore and the Macallan and even Lagavulin 16 these days, it has an artificiality to it. The sherry hasn't really evolved with the peat like a genuinely first class sherried whisky, but has just been painted onto it. For the price I would have expected something with more depth, this is ok, but you can't help but feel that these things are mass-produced to a detriment in artisanal quality, in a way they never were 20 years ago.
Good whisky. 48% alcohol definitely suits her.

Finally, an upgrade for the standard, flat, 40% 10 y.o. You may call this release as Laphroaig 10 distillers edition. Sherry is not well integrated but does not ruin anything. It’s more like a new approach… that is not disappointing, nor exciting.

85+ I know I am the millioneth person saying this, but here it goes: the Laphroaig house style really goes well with some good sherry cask maturation/finish. I would still like to see this type of maturation being done with, let's say, 5-10% of the 10 CS stock and see if it works. Needs no water at all, but it does not suffer from a reduction to about 45%.

Heavy-medicinal, but also light-fruity. The maritime-vegetal notes (algae, salt, seafood) are perfectly harmonized with the presence of good sherry casks (fresh but not intrusive, great time-ratio in terms of maturation). A very textured nose, if that makes any sense. Lots of honey-malt notes as well, the distillate asserts itself confidently. Great cask blending for such a mass product. |

Medium-light oiliness yet very chewable, not as dense but just as satisfying as the nose. Jammy, lighter (in terms of peat smoke) and at the same time darker here: the red fuits are redder and the spices are spicier. Still quite malty. Sometimes it comes off as toooooo approachable, but that is hardly a minus. Very, very enjoyable. |

With this bottling, Laphroaig could convince skeptics who are often put off by the extreme peat smoke aromas for which this distillery is known. While the characteristic medicinal notes are detectable, they are successfully tamed by a very harmonious and appealing sherry influence, giving the malt a pleasant drinkability. A real surprise for me—not a standout, but extremely delicious!

WCI Laphroaig 2 Online Tasting. The version I have in my glass is the one distilled in 2013, bottled in 2023 and it is good, a modern Laphroaig not entirely masked by the sherry, but after tasting the older Laphroaigs it is a bit disappointing.

For someone like me, who counts Laphroaig to his favorite distilleries and who prefers to see his Dram Laphroaig matured in an ex-Bourbon barrel, this comrade takes some getting used to. The color is too dark, the smell too strange, the taste too sweet. Laphroaig and ex-bourbon barrels, a connection as sure as a rain shower on Islay when you are about to set off for the American Monument. The development towards sherry barrel-aged Laphroaig is only logical, however, if you look at the countless UA who pimp their South Islay Coast purchases with heavily soaked sherry barrels. The last Cairdeas was already under the influence of Port + Wine, the next Cairdeas will be a PX - why should only the UA throw something like that on the market (which demands it). In contrast to the undisclosed Islay smokers (who always only sausage Lagavulin), the sherry in the Laphroaig 10yo Sherry Oak does not look superimposed, but as if it belonged to it per se. If I think away from the "classic" Laphroaig flavors and the experiences I've had with Laphroaig so far (if this is possible at all), it still looks rather modern, but on a high level. "Objectively" an 88-point malt - subjectively I will certainly be able to enjoy myself. I just think of “Laphroaig” away, then it's okay.

He certainly does not try to hold back with his finish in the presentation, but goes straight to attack: thick, fat sherry notes with raisins, dried figs, leather and tobacco. Smoke? Dark chocolate, freshly ground espresso beans, light spice. |

Wild herbs, pepper, nutmeg, slightly salty. I find myself pouring myself more, even though the glass was full. “War” is the keyword here. |

If you look at the color, you immediately think of the typical wet sherry casks these days. But unlike other bottlings, the Laphroig's hyper-dominant casks didn't manage to complete the distillate with sherry flavors. The typical smoke and the spicy notes can assert themselves in the nose and in the taste. But you definitely get a strong counterpart with the sherry maturation. The nose is very appealing, I really like the combination of the dark sherry aromas with the Laphi style. in the mouth it becomes sweeter than expected. The sherry aromas are also present here. But the herbs and the maritime touch are also there.

On the smoke side, the Sherry Oak begins somewhat atypically for a Laphroig. The typical phenolic aromas with the well-known medical associations of gauze bandages, adhesive plasters, hospital corridors, and so on are completely absent at first. It's more of a cold wood ash smelling smoke that is heavily intertwined with the sherry cask notes. There are leather, raisins, dark dried fruits like figs, dates, plums and some tobacco. After a little standing time and more oxygen supply, the dried fruits turn into fresh red berries with a pleasant acidity, blackberries, maybe blueberries. Also the smoke is now more laphilic, with more hospital vibes now. In general, the bourbon casks with a light citrus fruit and hint of vanilla are now becoming more apparent. As an aftertaste in the smell, the European oak barrels show up with a pleasant spiciness. The 48% alcohol is not noticeable at all. |

In the mouth, iodine and the typical hospital style in the rich smoke are present right from the start. But still paired with some cold charcoal which I didn't have on the regular 10y. A slight sweetness with vanilla and plums, the dried and now candied fruits and the leather with a few dried tobacco leaves also testify to the sherry finish in the taste. Some furniture polish is also included. Then come the flavors I love about Islay Malts. Dried kitchen herbs, smoked spruce needles, tree resin, with a hint of lemon. Dried seaweed provides the maritime touch. |

Very big disappointment. This need to soften the Laphroaig to make it more accessible to palates around the world is worrying. He's sweet, too sweet. The peat is confused, the degree is there to give a wow effect but which does not hold on a weak finish. The lack of mastery of aging is quite striking, and the game with multiple finishes does not bode well for the future. Laph 'will become a standard product, without soul or flavor except to fall into the panel of the dastardly.

Nose: Great nose with the typical peaty accusations and the minerality, the smoke however not typical hospital, more like fireplace smoke. Reminds something of the cart. In addition, vanilla and a beautiful red fruit that I associate with cherries. Taste: For a Laphroaig and especially 48% in the mouth, initially quite mild. Extremely oily in the mouth. Subtle sweetness, plus the mineral notes. Then oak comes through and it gets a little more rugged. But the nose promises more than it actually delivers. Departure: The finish is then characterized by smoky barbecue notes, but overall short. First impression: what the Triple Wood has in nice approaches appears more pronounced and full-bodied here. I will definitely (have to) taste the two and the PX side by side. But the Laphi has not changed my world now. And when I think about what I can get for 70 €, the bottle will probably never find its way to me a second time. For me, the TW is much more stable in terms of PLV. Probably falls under the heading "Made to sell" and not a really useful addition to the previous range.
He's boring me a little. Solid, tasty, sherry peat. Neither monster nor particularly strong. I lack character, strength, Laphroaig. So it's a good dram, but nothing more. You don't have to chase after that, in my opinion.
I'm missing the typical Laphroaig smoke a little. However, I like the sweetness quite a lot. A very nice, pleasant, not entirely harmonious single malt. Just the thing for a snowy post-Easter Tuesday afternoon, like today. A highly recommended addition to the collection for Laphroaig fans.
Blenders Glass. Nose: Nice combination of sherry and peat, although obviously young. For peat, grass, citrus, allspice. The light medicine typical of the lafs is present, but uncomplicated - good, but simple. 21 On the palate, woodiness and wateriness are well masked by peat. Again - good, but simple. 21 The finish is quite long, woody and sherry (smoked prunes, dates, figs) and peat. 22 Good, but simple - this is the motto of this drink. Summary: It's good to just have a drink while smoking a cigar or pipe, or roll in a company. B21 85
Not bad, Laphroaig smoke with sherry suits me. I just have the feeling that the otherwise great Laphroaig smoke falls victim to the sherry. He could have been a bit presenter throughout.

A bit of sherry and cold smoke, more ash and cold charcoal, bacon, a subtle bit of iodine and leather, fruity notes of plum jam, orange peel, raisins. In the background spices such as cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. Strong wood aromas penetrate the front and somewhat displace the fruity notes and the smoke. |

The sherry influence is strong. More on the fruity side on the nose, very sweet on the palate. The smoke has little intensity and is no longer Laphroaig-like. In my opinion, the malt lacks character and expressiveness - 07/10/2021

Someone decided to mock Laphroaig 10 and distort it in a strange way. The casks were clearly chosen in a strange way; perhaps paxarette? The taste is pleasing at first, but then a nasty (with its stupid sourness) aftertaste suddenly sets in. N:22 T:22 F:20 B:20

This is a dark, rich, luxurious whisky. A leather armchair smoking a cigar in a study sort of whisky. Cigars (tobacco, smoke, and ash), leather, coffee, raisins, fig newtons, cookie dough, elastics, and caramel ice cream. Of all my Laphroaigs, I've been drinking this one the most.
The Laphroaig DNS does not get lost, like how could, it's Laphroaig. But the sherry manages to make it an even little more friendly. The alcohol content (48%) is almost perfect. Sure I've would've loved a C-S Laphroaig Sherry 10. But 48 is more than fine. I would easily and gladly recommend this bottle to someone who is just getting familiar with smoke and not afraid of a little more alcohol than usual.

I like it less than the current standard 10yo. I find the sherry influence to be inharmonious. It seems somehow artificial. It lacks the spice of the standard.
“A fine and full-bodied single malt. Finished in sherry oak casks to layer aromatic honey onto our famous peat smoke. Slàinte. Unforgettable flavours from our classic 10 Year Old whisky find harmony with the sweetness and complexity of Oloroso sherry to create Laphroaig® 10 Sherry Oak. Finished in European sherry oak casks for a particularly memorable single malt. This unique expression begins with the same time-honoured process that goes into our regular 10 Year Old Laphroaig®. After drawing rich character from ex-Bourbon barrels, the spirit then rests in casks previously filled with sweet Oloroso sherry. Each barrel is hand selected to add extra complexity to our quintessential single malt. It’s what layers notes of Manuka honey and grilled bacon onto our renowned flavours of peat smoke and seaweed.” Overall this is a very good expression from Laphroaig. It mixes heavy smoke with sherry quite well. It also has a 10 yo age statement which is always nice to see. However I think the price is a bit high. For 10 euros less it would be a perfect purchase. But even so this is a good purchase, an enjoyable whisky. I will score it 87 / 100. A solid whisky that you should buy and enjoy at your own pace. Buy it, try it. Drink responsibly.

Despite my love for Laphroaig and sherry, this release struck me as disappointing and utterly empty. Sure, there was a fairly characteristic sherry aroma at first, but it felt like it was under a layer of machine oil. Which isn't even bad, on the contrary it`s rather interesting. But that's it. The whisky failed to develop in depth aromas or develop in the glass. And then things get very sad. The taste is mediocre and disappointing. There's no intensity at all. I didn't notice any aftertaste at all. Considering how much I liked the base 10, which also failed to deliver a wow effect or excitement yesterday. Although I remember my wild, overwhelming delight at it initially. Perhaps I wasn't in the mood. Or maybe I just got spoiled. Because the differences between what I remember and what I tried yesterday are too radical. But based on what I tried yesterday, I'm giving this a rating.

We have a slightly above average Laphroaig here! I would say it's a “doped” 10 with real power and thrust. Or a quarter cask with complexity (sherry flavors). Laphroaig likes to bottle whisky at 48%. The typical Laphroaig flavors break through, like with the Quarter Cask. This Laphroaig is on the medicinal side (smokiness), not the ashy. Here the smoke is carried by a dark fruit. Most likely it is ripe churches and otherwise indistinguishable ripe fruit. The fruit got too close to a campfire. The finish is medium to long with a spicy dryness. The smoke remains. I don't like this one as much as my beloved 16'er, although of course there are two completely different orientations of Laphroaig. You can spend around € 60 for this. 50 € would be fair! This shouldn't be the first Laphroaig for beginners! I can't find any marking on the bottle for a possible color, as can be found on the normal 10'er, a quarter cask and the disused 18'er that are in my closet. It's the same with the 16'er. Therefore one can speculate about a coloring. But it is very dark, which is why I would bet on a color. It has "only" 10 years and after damp barrels, which can quickly bring color to the whisky, it does not taste good.

This Laphroaig comes with a lot of wood and marries the sweetness and medicinal smoke of Laphroiag into an extraordinary combination for this price range. Islay whisky with sherry should work - as seen for example with the Lagavulin Distillers Edition. The Islay / Sherry combination works this time too - astonishingly dark color and a great taste of oak. The bitterness, which is more likely to be found in older whiskys, is also exceptional.

This is great for people who love peated whiskies such as Lagavulins or Ardbegs, and perfect for those who already like the Laphroaig 10. The whisky has become remarkably smooth and slightly more complex after the sherry maturation. The rich and round flavours of dried fruits also strikes a good balance with the classic smokiness and iodine in a Laphroaig 10. An outstanding expression well worth a taste. With its richness in flavour, this compliments an equally rich, flavourful and savory dish. The smokiness and dried fruit sweetness of this Laphroaig was sublime with the savory, rich and spicy nyonya beef rendang and blue pea coconut rice. For me a failed bottling. Much worse and completely different in taste than the "PX cask" travel-retail bottling and also completely different and significantly worse than the "triple wood" bottling, which is unfortunately no longer available. A disappointment. The distillery character and the typical aroma structure of Laphroaig is no longer as recognizable as a "friend of Laphroaig" would like and the barrel influence is strong, but in this bottling it simply does not harmonize with the malt that is filled into the barrels became. Laphroaig succeeded best in combining their typical malt with "exotic barrels" in my opinion with the "Brodir" series, which had been stored in port wine barrels. Unfortunately also discontinued. Against the background of the disappointment, my 83 points are benevolent.

Laphroaig Sherry Oak Finish 48%. I bought the first bottling of this immediately upon release without trying it first, on the basis that I think sherry cask finished Laphroaig simply works. Reviewed Dec 2021. Very dark. Two tone cognac brown. If this is naturally coloured then the pope is protestant. Aroma is initially hammy, gammon, dusty, some tired oak, quite muted though. Taste is coffeeish, randomly, like a vaguely fruity coffee, moving to burnt notes. The Laphroaig medicinal character is almost absent. I might not have called Laphroaig in a blind tasting here - maybe even if someone had told me it was South Islay. Some clove. Some strawberry. It is an okay dram. Perfectly fine. Quite well-balanced. It has an above-average flavour profile. Not wonderful but good and bottled at a good abv. No real complaints from me but the standard 10 has a better flavour profile and independent bottlings would tend to be better than this (albeit more expensive). Solid though, and I can't complain too much at the £65 asking price. I would have saved money by waiting, and my interests would have been better served by sourcing a sample of this and buying another bottle of CS, but I will still happily drink this. 3.5/83.5
In direct comparison with the PX I prefer the 10YO Sherry. All in all a successful Laphroaig, my favorite is and remains the 10YO Cask Strength, and I reserve the place on the shelf for that, so I didn't buy the 10YO Sherry.

Big step up from the more recent bottlings of the standard 10yo. This one evolves and got better the further I got down the bottle. A nice, harmonious blending of sherried sweetness and the medicinal, oily Laphroaig peat.
Smoke, cucumbers, sea salty and iodine tones, soot, and sweet tones of dried fruits try to break through this.

Yes, it's nice, but I'm not really excited about it. Tastes too little like Laphroaig for me and too much like 08/15 smoker from the sherry wet barrel. I think the current 10 series Talisker can do that just as well for half the money.

This is exactly how I imagine a combination of sherry and smoke to smell. The taste was less smoky than expected, but for the stated price it is still a clear recommendation. Edit: The bottle was emptied today, there's one last little dram for me. It's even improved a little over time. The leather note became more dominant, the sherry remained very dark and the Laphroaig-typical sticking plaster smokiness increased again. I'm increasing it by one point and giving it an impressive 88 points. And I'll buy it again at the next opportunity.

A real surprise! I wouldn't have believed Laphroaig would actually be able to bottle this kind of quality nowadays. Unusual sherry notes like lovage, wormwood and angostura showcase real complexity. Combine this with a big and rich body and a really long finish, and you get what is almost 90 points material. Only almost, because the nose flattens immensly after the very first sip. This is certainly a 'supercharged' Laphroaig because of it's secondary sherry maturation but it's key notes are still clearly perceivable, and it's got excellent balance and length. More Laphroaig like this, please! One dram note.
