B: 43%, filtered, coloured, thin. 18 N: Tannin, vanilla, muscat, burnt sugar, peat. 22 P: Tannin, vanilla, smoke, spice. 22 F: Tannin, vanilla, smoke spice. Medium 21 Distillery tour tasting. A lot of ambition and a high price but nothing special. Not impressed

Great stuff! It suits my taste. A little more percentage would have done it good.

Eyes: Brown sugar water smells fragrance Nose: What a smell of charcoal and dog hair. . . . Table salt, potato chips, miscellaneous noodles, American ginseng, refreshing fruity flavor gradually revealed, fruit pie, black brin, a little floral fragrance, green leaves. Peat, with a hint of smoke, mosquito coils, shredded tobacco + tobacco, satay beef sauce, butter biscuits, starved me to death. . . . It is undoubtedly a very balanced and elegant peat Shirley style. Although this double matured has a feeling of increasing the amount and not increasing the price, Shirley has not yet overwhelmed the crowd. It is still around the peat, and the flavor elements that appear are not the "Shirley bomb". set. Taste Palate: salty, slightly sour, slightly sweet, sea fish, sea salt, bacon and smoked sausage. Then there are fruity flavors, citrus, pineapple syrup, tribute mandarin, a bit of dark fruit, shredded tobacco and black chocolate. The barrel taste and bitter bottom are medium, but the presence is not strong, peat, medium smoke, a little Chinese medicinal material, and a milky taste at the end. Final rhyme Finish: long, ginseng tea, seaweed shrimp skin, back sweet, fine sugar, fresh flower cake, smoke-like smoke brought by peat. N- Favourite annual releases to many Lagavulin fans. Double matured in PX that impart a brilliant amber that shines thru the glare of morning sun. Sun dried cotton with lovely zest in the middle, buttery raisin cream underlay, well aged and integrated peat that nose like an opened bag of savoury groundnut with salt dusted shells. Profound, yet breezy, so is rather clean despite peated with soft sweetness. (90/22) P- Grilled pumpkin wedge with sugar glaze, compote of delightful citrus, mineral and ozone rising for balanced and smoggy mouthfeel. (88/22) F- Medium long, there are moments feeling the void and diluted missing chains. Otherwise is warming, peppery with full smokes layered at the back palate. (87/21) B/B- 87/21. Quite tidy. Weighted Rate- 86pt Cr-1, Fr-2, Fl-1, Pt-03 Ft-2, Sp-0, Wd-2, Wn-2, Sc-2 — at The Whisky Bar, Kuala Lumpur.

Nose: pleasant smoke, malty sweet, citrus, dark fruits, nutty, maritime notes • • Taste: roasted peppers, a light hint of pepper, the PX sweetness is fully there, oak wort and a little iodine are added, dark chocolate rounds off the wide spectrum • Outlet: very creamy almost creamy, persistent spicy sweet finish • Comment: I really like this multifaceted Lagavulin.

Really peaty and only little smoky, nevertheless pretty drinkable

Great combination of peat smoke and the sweetness of the Pedro Ximenez Sherry, fantastic whisky for a fair price. A highlight for me every time to open the bottle.

with water: No, please no water Conclusion: Actually the quintessence from Islay, complex, great peat with phenolic nuances, with 46% that would be perfect

Honey-sweet, warm, greasy smoke on the nose. In the background light herbal notes and fruits. Very soft and oily in the mouth with light sherry notes and minimal saltiness. In addition, light ash in the mouth. The finish is very mild, spicy and ashy, and it becomes increasingly fruity with dark chocolate in the background. Length: 8/10 The spearhead of the Distillers Edition Range, much more accessible and interesting compared to the classic 16er due to the sweet fruit notes. Note 1-

For me an almost perfect Lagavulin. Which also gets along very well with the 43%.

An excellent representative of Islay, a very even malt. A clear nose-mouth-finish sequence is all-in-one and delicious. Fans of Islay and sherry aging, I recommend.

The aroma is sweet, fruity, jammy, jammy, framed by smoke and peat. Taste - sweet, sherry, prunes, raisins, dried fruit, molasses jam.

Mild, powerful, and just delicious! A Lagavulin 16 is always a welcome guest in my glass, whether a DE or a "normal" 16s. For a long time I did not have a 16er in the glass, since today I know again why these bottlings are so popular and popular and annoyed me that lately I have not often poured a laga into the glass. Good, honest, tasty and tasty, just to enjoy! 22/22/22/22 (88P)

2002-2018 Vintage. Much mellow than the 16 yo, I think the finishing period in the PX casks reduced too much strength of the smokiness without adding enough flavor into it. So, it is a very complex one covering very aspects and still in the Lagavulin profile. But not that phenomenal.

The lag keeps the level. basic 16-ku will not surpass, for me personally. I really liked DE in taste, here it is clearly his very strong point.

Strong winter smoke nose, medium body,with great honey tastes ..long aftertaste..

Steady dram, although the least remarkable and versatile DE version I've had so far. Not so much fruity elements as I would expect.

Aroma: Intense peat and vanilla. A raisin sweetness balances the smoke. In the background the aroma of roasted malt, iodine and tobacco. Taste: Full-bodied, sweet and delicious. First, a clear malt taste, then peat smoke and slight saltiness. Coffee and vanilla as well as a light fruit taste. Finish: Incredibly long, peat and fruit complement the spiciness of oak. Color: Golden sugar syrup.

Nice balance, strong iodine, liquory

At the top of my list

Compared to 16yo, this one is much more on the sherry side with the sweetness of cherries and dark chocolate, the spiciness of cloves and tobacco, and the fruitiness of plums and sweet cherries, but with significantly less smoky and maritime character. It's sharper on the palate, with a clearer identity, the vibrant acidity of fresh fruit, and much more pronounced spices like nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, and white pepper. It's no longer a bonfire by the seaside, more like an old house with a wooden floor, leather armchairs, shelves full of books, cherries in liquor on the table, and a cracking fireplace in the living room... It is different to 16yo, more complex, with an extra layer of dark chocolate, spices, fruits, and leather, yet lacking what I really like in Islay - It's still there, but in the finish - characteristic sweet peat. I do like it, and am willing to give it one extra point for its character and complexity, but for daily, I chose 16yo.

[November, 2018] The Lagavulin Distillers Edition is one of my favourite all-days drams and so I have to check the latest edition, for sure. And when I saw a special offer as low as 58 Euro I could not resist to buy a bottle... ...and guess what? It proves the consistent high quality of Lagavulin releases with pride! No flaw or off-note (anyone had a sulphur-spoiled Lagavulin ever?) but an impressive, balanced and dangerously quaffable dram at a very reasonable price (it is a real bargain at 58 Euros these days). Beside Glenfarclas and Caol Ila the most reliable high-quality distillery out there...

An unexpected surprise. Curious to taste the difference between the classic, and always good, 16 yo, I was expecting a peat with an hint of sherry. Instead, I found a wonderful balanced Islay whisky where the peat wan't the protagonist but a well mixed participant of the complex character. This will become quickly one of the "must be always available" bottles in my shelf ... :)

This beautiful fruity sherry smoke is very surprising and convincing right from the start. Over time, the nose becomes more aromatic. I'm not sure, but I even had the feeling that I was briefly aware of something like cherry or pipe tobacco. I cannot say whether there are any differences in taste compared to previous editions due to the lack of comparability. I liked this bottling.

The Distillers Editions are exactly what I'm looking for. Very round and soft, but with the typical Laga note. The finish could be a bit longer, but it becomes chocolatey after 2 sips. Tried again on December 23 and November 24 and adjusted the rating slightly. 86-90 – Wow, really good one, needs a bottle

Aroma: Pleasant dust, grease, honey, cherry, smoked plum, smoked fish, delicate iodine, sea air, blackcurrant, dried fruit Palate: Soot, ashtray, saltiness, oak, orange, sea breeze, smoked plum, soft liquorice and leatheriness, finish with some salty caramel The smell is not smoky unlike 16yo, but it is more sherry and dusty which I like very much, and the taste is less sweet, more smooth, still incredibly pleasant. Very curvy, 43% don't mind

87.50 Much less smoky and maritime, with more sweet citrus, honey, caramel, toffee, chocolate, and nuts. Well-balanced spices perfectly emphasize the whisky's character. After a while, more sour and sweet red fruits, cherry liqueur, and raspberries emerge.

This whisky is exactly what it says it is, a classic Lagavulin 16 meatiness with an added punch of PX. Imagine honey glazed barbecued meats. If you like the classic Lagavulin profile and have a sweet-tooth, I would definitely recommend this. Value (£75) : 5/10

Very good signature Lagavulin nose, arrives a little bit thin on the palate but then builds up to a surprisingly long, extremely satisfying finish. Curious to try older releases of these Distiller’s Editions!

Smokey and sherry. Full bodied nose. Heavy smoke, typical Lagavulin, but which an added layer of fruitiness. The sherry aroma's are well integrated. Falls a bit flat in the taste, but the finish is great. Medium-long with again the smoke and fire.

The nose reminds me of an old indoor bar that I always go before they closed down a few years ago. Old wood furniture, dusty, bottles of whisky hanging upside down, full of old posters, with people smoking right beside you. After having cask strength whiskies for most of the time, its always good to have some good OB and reminded that how good some commercial OB can be. The finishing is the best part for this whisky, medium long with soothing peat lingers.

Another great Laga DE.

A lagavulin rather faithful to itself, although a little too diluted alas

N: peat, cooked grapes, dried, spices forward, woody and maritime return B: sweetness of peat, vanilla, candied fruit, sweet sweetness at this time, the smoke takes the front, unctuous sensation in the mouth with dark chocolate that hides a little more peat. F: dry peat, cold ashes, candied fruits (grapes, tangerine, orange zest), spices and quite short length, sweet, but lacking somewhere of character.

The nose is expressed on an iodized and peppery peat. The texture suffers a little from the dilution. Very long finish on a soft and charcoal peat with again a little black pepper. Not the most complex but very well made and extremely easy to drink.

Tasting with a half-empty bottle. In the first drams, the smoky notes were still in the foreground, but 10 days later, a perfect, velvety enjoyment of a highly complex smoked sherry whisky, in which everyone brought new notes to light again. As someone who likes to treat themselves to a PX sherry as a dessert, the unmistakable notes of PX cask ripening are particularly impressive and valuable to me

2020 Rating

Lagavulin Distillers Edition is my favorite everyday dram. Anyway I checked the new 2002/2018 release today when I got it as offer 63 Euros. I am not disappointed and this Lagavulin Edition proves the consistent high quality. However, I think its a little bit less good and sweet than the 2000/2016 I drank before.

Lots of opinions that the DE is not as good as it used to be. Bought a bottle at 58 ! Euro. Let´s see...
