Salt and pepper, wood smoke, ghee heated in a frying pan, smoked citrus confiture, vanilla sugar. Very nice. The taste is powerful, burning. Smoked, salty sea cocktail, fruity caramel sweetness. The aftertaste is tart, ash with fruity sweetness. Laf is quite tasty, but the strength is still a little disturbing. Thanks Kensay!

Great thing - great, intense top malt! [Color] honey;
For the tasting, only a 2cl sample was available. The impressions described here are thus only "first impressions". Edit: Nevertheless, this little sample was enough to make me want more. I would like to have poured a dram here and today. The very positive reviews are understandable in this Malt, as far as I'm concerned.

Hm, honey. Incredibly drinkable and comparatively very mild. Could be a little more concise. Maybe you could wish for more "Laphi-ness". I think it's at least interesting what the CS10 can do. Because this is certainly not bad whisky. Full review, alongside five other Laphroaig CS10: https://keinehalbendrinks.de/2022/02/24/laphroaig-cask-strength-10-year-old/
Laphi with a fantastic finish that lasts forever - absolutely brilliant dram !!!

So much lemon and acidity and so measured. The balanced smoke and subtle sweetness is so impressive. (Rating interval 86-90)
Nose Sweet with caramel and vanilla accompanied by a very light phenolic touch. Citrus fruits and salted seaweed. Hints of smoked ham in the background. Taste Oily and vibrant. Tons and tons of peat followed by two hands full of white pepper. Only very slightly sweet which surprises given the nose. Dried apple rings covered in milk chocolate, followed by more dried fruits. Hints of oak. Finish Long, strong and dry. Lots of smoke balanced by floral honey and a whiff of salt. Mouthwatering. Overall The nose is, although very pleasant, not really laphroaig-y. Therefore you get all that great laphroaig-ness on the palate and in the finish. Another very fine batch which surprises with an outstanding amount of complexity given its young age. I think I like this batch a notch more than the previous batch. http://dramlicious.com/peaty-friday-episode-20/
Not very complex, but the alcohol is very well integrated and gives off a superb aromatic power.
Excellent Laphroaig, although Batch 006 is better in my opinion.
This is really ashy, salty and rubbery on the nose with some putty mixed in. The peat is sweet, plenty of salt on the palate with sweet grapefruit and a hint of mango. The salt/brine seems to grow with time, a little lemon creeps in and menthol Finish is quite long & warming. Quite a restrained laphy but I like it.

I'm not a Laphroaig fan yet, but I haven't drank a lot either. It doesn't really match my loot scheme per se, but wow, this whisky is really interesting to look at. It definitely has a few rough edges and there are a few things to discover. Maybe I gave an extra point because I usually drink other whiskys and that's why the "special" turns me on.

Maritime notes in the foreground. Salt. Smoked aroma. Medical. Behind it some peach. After adding water, it suddenly opens up surprisingly after a few minutes and becomes wine-gummy. I would have guessed € 5 on sherry, but that's wrong, phew, luckily I didn't guess € 5. I'll get something more special fruity there. A bit citrus-like ... it's not a lemon, more of a not particularly ripe grapefruit, but far in the background, it only flashes sometimes. Maybe cedar. A bitter sweetness that I can define even more precisely after a few minutes: spreadable sausage. Yes, right, spreadable sausage. Including the slight sweetness. Someone mixed a whole sausage spread into the whisky. Fantastic idea! |

Far sweeter than your nose suggested. But only at the beginning, then disappears more and more and only reappears in the finish. Quite spicy, maybe it's marjoram. Smoked, but not too extreme. Again the sausage spread. I ate them often as a child, but very rarely since then. But tastes good. |

Also sweet at the beginning. Very slightly fruity in the background. There is a subtle bitter note. And then it gets ashier and spicier. Up to iron. The spread sausage is now downright umami. The ash sounds like a long time to a 10 year old. |
Very steady and good one, nice smoky notes with some sweet- and fruitiness. Not the most complex dram I've had, but very good at what it does.

Gorgeous release. Powerful, direct and open, it is difficult to imagine a release that even better represents the character of the distillery. There is everything at once, except that there is a little lack of depth. But is she needed in such a release? not sure

very close to batch 6, medium expressive nose too, but less marked barbecue. Mouth a bit less sweet, less easy, not the apple side here, but the alcohol feels a little bit in the end. Both are excellent whiskys, but when we knew the Red Stripe ...
Not unpleasant at all, despite my aversion towards high-PPM naphthalene stinkers. The nose strikes a chord and its quite complex.
Another blockbuster by Laphroaig. It shows once again how excellent (relatively) young Islay whiskies can be: raw and uncomplicated.

Laphroaig 10 years CS, 2015, 56.3% Yeah sure, it's smoky but is noticeably holding back! It doesn't smell like a hospital rather a subtle smoky note, although you can smell the starch. Beautiful smoke, slightly sweet wood. Violent in the mouth. Very strong! Looks a little more spicy. A mixture of laurel and juniper, Carnations and rotten wood. Above all, this subtle, by no means overwhelming smoke note. Great stinker!

The aroma is rich, intense, oily. Iodine, seaweed, minerality, peat smoke, coniferous theme. Citrus fruits, fresh pastries, vanilla, monpasier, some spicy spices. Taste - bright, dry, salty with bitterness. Soot, minerality, smoked smoke, medical theme, vanilla, citrus peel, pepper. Finish - long, salty - mineral. Medical theme, soot, spicy spices, vanilla, citrus peel. Conclusion: Bright, powerful, marine with a rich palette of aromas and tastes. The lack of signature sweetness is a little repulsive, but this is not its drawback, but a feature.
Very successful Laphi! 88 points.
Tasted in a bar in Stuttgart in 2018.
https://kaypingers-whiskyblog.de/frontend/fullarticle.php?id=170 Color gold Nose: Relatively strict start with salt and pepper, wet leaves, grass, menthol (fragrant oils) and lemon. Very mineral with quartz, wet rock, stream stones and a fresh sea breeze. In addition, there is sweet mountain honey with underlying, dull leather notes. Taste: Sweet, peaty, smoky and with a strong herbal influence. Phenols with green apple and caramelized sugar. The CS series of previous bottlings continues almost seamlessly. Finish: Long - a sweet-bitter and unfortunately somewhat inharmonious interplay. Bitter-sweet and ending with woody sugar notes. Note: A little better than its predecessor. 86 points (nose: 89 / taste: 86 / finish: 83)

A showdown between Colin Dunn vs Joe Clark. Three drams each, blind. We started with the ever-popular Johnnie Walker Green label [WB] from Colin. He's got the edge with his third and final An Cnoc 18yo dram, but can Joe's no.#3 snatch victory? N: Hello sage, and garlic and loads of Ayurvedic soap! A big hitter, cask strength I imagine. T: That works. It's huge, thick and bold and,... beyond peat. This is all about the strength. F: Is this Octomore? C: The cask strength makes all the difference. Very good, but I find it the spirit a little rough, certainly in relation to the subtlety crafted Ancnoc 18 WB. Of all the six drams, I sense I really need more time with this one. Results: a win-win of course but the An Cnoc comes home. Scores a B-
Only thing wrong with the CS is that Laphroaig makes way too little and mess things up further with ballots and draws.
Strong, boisterous Laphroaig. Sea, salt, peat, medicinal, liquorice, pepper, spices, lemon zest for all dryness and directness also delicate, sweet hints in the background. Just a great Islay whisky.

Wow, here you can experiment well with water, but this would not be necessary because of the well-integrated alcohol.
Almost all bottlings of the 10yo. in cask strength, so many other Laphroaig bottlings have lost depth of taste (quality), so much the connoisseur who wants to open and drink this bottle must ask in view of the sharp increase in prices of this bottling, where are still the meaning of an acquisition should. A few years ago, this bottling was the non plus ultra of those Laphroaig lovers who did not necessarily prefer very long storage times with lots of fumigated smoke, but who wanted a typical, smoky Laphroaig. At prices for the 40% 10yo. from still below 30 € and prices of cask strength bottling in the range of sometimes more than five times the purchase of this bottling in the "normal" trade to drink pure snobbery - or you just have a lot (too much) money. Because miraculously, the cheap, old 10yo. Standard with 40% one of the bottlings, the quality of which has not decreased in recent years, as with almost all other Laphroaig bottlings under 100 € purchase price, but increased. This makes the excellent cask strength bottling appear overpriced. What she probably is in the trade too. Marketing olé

Wonderful nosing whisky, and the palate doesn't disappoint either.
World class example of peaty whisky. Its young and strong, yet well matured. Incredible balance between salty, savoury, smoky and sweetness. I hope Laphroaig never stops doing these cask strength releases.
tasted head to head with batch 8 n: a full load of peat smoke, ta r, ashes and soot. smells like a surgery (ointments and embrocations, iodine). also liquorice and a little citrus fruit in the background. t: very much the nose, oily arrival with a huge punch, subtle sweetness behind the smoke and the medicine. grapefruits and lemons. f: long, tarry, liquorice. comments: this is no whisky, this is medicine! a little rounder than batch 8, I think. 90/100

The empty glass breathes ash and mineral peat. Batches 006 and 007 tasted and excellent!
I especially appreciate the notes of red fruits in this Laphroaig.
In the nose just neat wet, medical and somehow also carbonated smoke over a massive bourbon note. Really sweet vanilla and caramel. Including lemon and grapefruit, so sour citrus notes. I put my nose even deeper into the glass come iodine, hospital corridor and disinfectant. Ointment. Sour red currant. Over it the vanilla sweetness and this smoldering smoke after coal. All very strong and massive due to the high alcohol content. But I wanted to drink it: Wow, great bound alcohol. Smoke is above everything. Strangely, it is much drier than in the nose. Reminiscent of burning cardboard. The sweetness comes right behind and then salty notes follow. Sea spray, rotting algae. Shellfish. The fruitiness loses something, but on the tongue is now a peppery spice. On the tongue fights pepper with vanilla sweetness, the back oral cavity, however, is covered by salty iodine and in the finish again much moister, medical smoke. Crazy as the smoky notes change from dry to moist when swallowing. And I think I've never had that much iodine in a dram. In the finish is also a certain fruitiness there. Especially the sour red currant and also some gooseberry. And also a certain slightly biting paint touch as if the painters were at work. And while I'm writing this, he's all back. Conclusion: Violent, great, intense Laphroaig. I like it very much, if not quite as good as its replacement on the bus, Octomore 10 years 2nd. It is even more complex and complex with even more massive smoke. What I'll do the same again.

Laphroaig 10 years Cask Strength, Batch 7, 56.3%, Original Bottling Region: Islay, Scotland Nose: Amazingly balanced and fruity on the go. Slightly smoky, only remotely medically. Many different fruits follow, including raspberries, blackberries and apricots, apples and peaches. The individual aromas are very hazy and difficult to grasp. Over time, the fruits are drier, with some vanilla. The sweetness thickens, toffee and hazelnut cream follow. Palate: Significantly heavier than in the nose, strong and smoky. Tar and phenol, with fruits and a nice sweetness. Candied ginger sticks, nuts and malt, caramel and dried redcurrants. Finish: Long and with a certain bitterness, reminiscent of cocoa and coffee. In addition malt and peat smoke. Conclusion: Wow, 10 years and already so complex? In the nose, the smoke retains wonderful and hardly reminiscent of a Laphroaig, on the palate and the finish, the distillery is wonderful to advantage. The nose belongs to the good wood management. Definitely a very successful single malt! 90/100 points (tasted 2015, approx. 60 €) I thank Lars for the rehearsal and Daniel Freitag for the photo! Strong and strong, a whisky to shake up; I would prefer the normal 10s at any time - 25.03.2017
Nose: Clear median smoke at first, but accompanied by a lot of sweet vanilla. I like the first thing much better than the standard. After a while I also feel like bitter almond, marzipan, caramel. Something like carnation and vanilla do not go out of my mind. Taste: Very sweet with a lot of caramel and brown sugar. A pleasant tingle in the mouth and planzliche peat notes and chocolate make in the mouth wide. I had never thought that a Laphroaig can taste that way and am extremely pleasantly surprised! Peat notes in the form of cold ash and lots of residual sweetness dominate the finish. Conclusion: I already know why I had to buy a 10 CS.

Sample A million notes here, so just a personal one then. Tasted against batch 008 Spectacular amount of pine tar, tree oils, mint, pine needles, iodine and gauze, some nice honey to tie it together. It’s very big but oh so satisfying. Brisket bark, Menthol, Eucalyptus, char and ash... Against the 008... honestly it’s like getting hit by Tyson and then Holyfield and trying to analyze each one. Who cares, the first one knocked you out anyways. Both are great and I’ll say these Lp10cs - any of them I’ve had - are the best BFYB peaters on Islay. And it’s not close. The winner? I’m dead, remember?
Laphi CS, actually it doesn't matter which batch is in the jar ... smoke, peat, subtle fly ash (although I don't find batch 007 so extremely smoky, ashy and "campfire-heavy") paired with sweetness and fruit. Of course, iodine, phenol, seaweed and the medical hospital notes typical of Laphroaig should not be missing ... Fits and tastes good!
There are so many completely different tones here, which together, oddly enough, created a very good whisky.
