Fairly strong, deep smoke. Loamy peat, muddy earth, tall grass, reeds. Clear, crystalline iodine, very vague reflections of vanilla and white fruits. Delicate woodiness. It is sandy, chalky, with returns of wet cave, gypsum, stalactite. Vanilla makes its way in there, with difficulty. Peanut butter, sesame, pumpkin seeds. Pond, stagnant water, but also pomegranate seeds. With a few drops of water, the fruits are more present, Mirabelle plums, Belle Hélène pear, lychees. Beautiful young wood beams. On the palate, sesame spread, peat and solid spices, paprika, cumin, nutmeg. It's well wooded again. Long and powerful finish, delicately bitter, hay, yam, black radish, dry earth. Hazelnuts and cola. A squeeze of lemon at the end. The DNA of Lagavulin is widely recognizable, we are dealing with a distillate absolutely not bothered by the influence of the cask, a pure and bewitching liquid which floods us with all the power of its classicism. https://ilikesky2020.blogspot.com/2023/05/lagavulin-12-yo-diageo-special-release.html

Whisky's coming come. Design and price politics aside, this is once again a wonderful straight forward yet very luscious Laga 12 experience. It does not do EVERYTHING, but what it does, it does very sovereignly. Very yummy indeed!
To me, this bottling seems somewhat less mature than earlier editions up to and including 2016. Unfortunately, the two subsequent years didn't correct this impression – they became even more one-dimensional. Only the 2025 Fireside Tales managed to catch up again and more strongly recall the old, heavy Lagavulin depth. And this certainly has nothing to do with my "adapting palate." Even today, the old Lagavulin 12s taste better than the modern bottlings simply because they incorporate older casks in their blending process. Of course, pricing also plays a role. Diageo understands how to confidently price the collector hype surrounding limited releases. Objectively speaking, it's difficult to justify the asking price based solely on sensory performance. And yet: Lagavulin is Lagavulin. The DNA – that heavy, maritime, oil-soaked smoke – is unmistakably present. Anyone who has tasted the new make or even the wash knows that this character doesn't develop in the cask. You can mature Lagavulin in casks however you like, you will always recognize it as Lagavulin with its long, distinctive fermentation and its exceptionally wide stills. Conclusion: A very good Lagavulin with a clear identity, but not on par with the strongest vintages. The price-performance ratio is debatable, but the enjoyment factor is high nonetheless.

Typical Lagavulin character immediately fills the glass: dark, maritime smoke, iodine, wet ropes, along with malty sweetness and a touch of lemon zest. Vanilla and charred wood linger in the background. However, everything seems a bit younger and less deeply interwoven than in previous bottlings – the smoke is clearer, more angular, less integrated. |
| Вкус |

Oily on the palate, robust peat smoke, salted caramel, and roasted barley. A pleasant maritime salinity pervades the entire experience. However, I find it lacking in some of the dark, mature complexity of earlier vintages – less leather, less dried fruit, less depth. The cask is working, but it doesn't quite bear the same hallmarks of maturation as older bottlings. The alcohol can be a bit harsh at times. |

Long, dry, ashy. Smoke and oak spice dominate, accompanied by a subtle bitterness and a hint of citrus. Good length, but less complex than I know Lagavulin to be at its best. |
Intense smoke reminiscent of the sea, seaweed, and a touch of bourbon, with a hint of sweetness. Strong start, spicy and woody sweetness The finish is drier, the flavor fades out.

The fruit cannot be found in the taste. First the sweetened limes and lemons roll over the tongue, then the smoke strikes massively, paired with the black pepper. Very intensive. Light wood is minimally noticeable. With water, more sweetened citrus fruits and vanilla come out. He doesn't lose with water. I think it is better with it, it opens even more and the flavors are easier to taste individually. |

A very good Lagavulin even if it is classic and needs time.
Tasted during a blind tasting. He couldn't charm me. I missed the sweet and sultry that I normally have with Lagavulin. I couldn't do much with this one and it shows in my score.
It's just my whisky profile which I like, I like peats a lot and Lagavulin and Laphroaig are my favourites. My advice, let the whisky catch some air, pour it into a glass and wait about 10 minutes, it's really worth it, it will give you a beautiful fruity peat smell. For me, the same fruitiness as the 2017 edition, the 2019 and 2020 editions more sharply peaty.

Nose: Stir-fried lettuce with dace in black bean sauce really tastes exactly like this. Cantonese people say they can’t laugh. Put more salted fish for a while, domineering ocean style, salty cheese, a lot of caraway seeds, some grassy smell of New World Sauvignon Blanc, and some stinky green smell of Chilean Cabernet sauvignon, and then turn into the chalk period, wild animals, etc. The farmy atmosphere is very interesting to me, and the overall expressiveness is also very confident. Drink: Compared with 2016, the wine is fuller in body, better in temperature, and still at a very high level of expression. It feels like you are on the streets of a Southeast Asian country, where the heat has nowhere to hide. Very aggressive ocean scent, but the next wave turned out to be honey, with countless tropical fruits on top. Overall: Compared with SR2 2016, which also has a score of WF92, the overall style of this wine will be stronger, more aggressive, full of personality, angular, and has a very strong wine under the premise of body quality Remember, the cost performance is also very online, but it reminds me of some high-quality laph newly bottled recently, and laga will have more strength to break through 90 points.

A classic Islay dram. Smoke & peat at one of their best. Shorter maturation vs standard 16-year-old does not mean short of Lagavulin character and poise.

Absolutely can't understand this hype and reviews. Straight maritime with smoke and a little sweetness. Not really anymore. Unbalanced, harsh and excessively pressing, even sharp on the tongue and in the finish. Interchangeable, hardly attractive, gives much more interesting things for less than half the current price. The prices on Laga 12 indeed are going up these days, and for sure this is much more pricy than what I had to pay for earlier editions - but this is just part of the current trend, as single malt prices are going up. Anyhow imho this delivers great VFM. I really enjoyed this dram, it is not highly complex or multi-layered but as Serge would say this is razor sharp. Clear and expressive, no offnotes and has lots of oomph. Adding water makes the notes more bold and clear.

It was delicious, and it was very strange. I didn't understand at first that it tasted like hospital, but I feel like I have hospital gauze in my mouth. It is a unique taste that you will not be able to taste anywhere else, and it seems that you can only taste whisky. I heard it's pit, but it tastes amazing! The scent is so strong that even after eating, the scent lingers on the tip of your nose for a few minutes.
Color: crescent moon. Frosty yellow. Smell: peat, almost all peat, charcoal, take a deep breath, under the peat and charcoal smell is the smell of burnt maltose and fried sugar, rotten apples, just a little. Drinking: Take a sip, sweet with peat, a little bit of burning thatch, and a bit like chewing licorice. More than 50 degrees but not spicy. In the throat, the aftertaste is strong but not pungent. The main notes are ashes, the ashes of thatch, the ashes of a wood fire. Add water to dilute to about 40 degrees: Smell: The peat and charcoal are slightly lighter, and the salty sweetness is highlighted. Drinking: The sweetness of the mouth becomes brighter, like honey water and like a spring, and the alcohol sense becomes more active, running around in the mouth. The smell of burning thatch and licorice are gone, but the smell of ash still stands out. It can be said that it is not complicated.

Lagavulin 2008 / 12 Year Old / Special Releases 2021. 1cl sample at The Whisky Show 2022. I can’t rate a whisky off such a small sample, but initial impressions: Airy aroma slightly medicinal - iodine. Taste is good and potent, salty with a breathy smoke, punchy and one-dimensional. Pleasant salty spirit-led finish, almost more like a Caol Ila. Good and enjoyable but not great by any means 3.5/84

Wow, if you don't try it, you've missed something. Really great and then you understand what is special about Lagavulin. Smoky, creamy, slightly sweet, absolutely round and harmonious. No burning, no fuss or missing notes. Absolute top quality. This again shows that age is not the decisive factor when it comes to whisky. Just lovely. I am happy that I picked up the money and allowed myself 2 bottles.
I have compared the 2021 release of Lagavulin to the 2020 side by side for many a sip, and I'm not exactly sure which I like better, but starting to lean a little towards the 2021 bottling. It's slightly floral and there is definitely a hint of lemon mixed with more peat at the very edge of the cliff before you suddenly drop off. The 2020 is a bit more straight to the point, while the 2021 is dressed up, just a little, with some flair and style, before the big night out on the town. The 2020 is very direct, with a little bristle on the edges, while the 2021 is a tad smoother, like a powdered baby's cheek, and you're slightly on edge, like in the presence of Lord Varys. It's still more of the Lagavulin that I would expect, but the earlier release is just, well, different, and frankly, I think that I like both. Because sometimes you want a gentle caress, and sometimes a slap on the self-absorbed grimace.
The Lagavulin 12 is a fixed value in the Special Releases. The aristocrat of Islay is the 'fiercest and smokiest' of the gang, hence 'The Lion's Fire'. When I was on Islay the other day, I didn't see a single lion there, I have to say. Anyway, matured on refill American oak. The previous three releases I found really excellent, so the bar for this Laga is also very high. On the nose it is surprisingly soft with only a sigh of smoke. The medicinal notes are present (think burn ointment and a band-aid). Then beautiful notes of sweet malt with a lot of citrus and white pepper. The juice from a jar of olives. Seaweed. Rocks in the surf. Plasticine. Elegant and inviting. A lot less sweet than last year's edition. But this is again great. Yes! On the palate it is Lagavulin pur sang. Very smoky. Sweet smoke, really. Powerful notes of lemon and pepper (feel free to make that chili), supplemented with olives, oysters and a lot of toasted oak. A perfect balance between sweet, salty and bitter (from the wood) notes. The aftertaste is smoky, salty, peated on lemon and stockfish. So satisfying. The best one of the series – again. I buy these blind every year. You cannot go wrong with this one.

Whiskynotes.be: Nose: dry peat with lots of coastal notes and medicinal elements. Beach sand, tarry ropes, with sea spray and iodine bandages. Dried seaweed. Hints of green apple and lemon. A slight mineral sharpness, as well as green olive juice, but also subtle sweetness in the distance. Like most of these 12 year-olds, slightly fierce but very high quality. Mouth: oily, with a sweetness of salted caramel and bready malt coming out first, before you’re struck by deep bonfire notes, char and plenty of brine. Lemon peels, smoked oysters, iodine and tingling pepper. Dry leafy notes, olives and chalk in the end, with light oak tannin as well. Finish: rather long, on tar, slightly acrid smoke, green wood and lemon. 91/100

Not as sharp, rough and clean as previous batch (2019, 2020), more towards the 2017, 2018 batches but cleaner. I always like the earlier batches of Laga 12, maybe those are the first Laga 12 (and high strength whiskies) I tried and I quite fond towards the flavor profile. I would say the 19/20 batch are more transparent where the peat, tars, smoke all hits aggressively. While the 17/18 batch have some delicate sweetness lingers in between make it softer and more rounded. This batch feels like in between those batches. But well the price for these bottles are just getting more expensive every year, for the similar price here there might be some good alternatives.

Sorry, no metaphors. I hated this until I added a few drops of H2O, and then my life changed forever. I an only giving it 96 because I'm still rather new to the cask strength world (why did it take so long???).
hmm There were times when a Lagavulin 12 CS ignited a veritable firework of aromas, so that the 90 limit was sometimes easily cracked. This 2021 bottling comes across as frighteningly weak and random and it doesn't hide its youth at all. Smoked pear? Haven't had it in my nose with a 12 CS yet. I recently had a current Lagavulin 8yo 48% in my glass, which I was very enthusiastic about and which, in my opinion, deserved its 88/88/86 without further ado. So if I look at the prices currently being charged for the 'Special Edition' 12 CS, I know for future times which whisky to reach for when I want a youthful Lagavulin in the glass. The level here is still comparatively high, but compared to its predecessors, this 12 CS was a shot in the oven for me.

Very pleased with this one, great sweetness and smokiness with loads of bite and different not being sherried like the 16. I like it. Was worried at first casue I hated the 8. Comparing the two the eight is way to distillate forward, just pure ethanol and no flavour. This one is great, refill bourbon barrels are where it is at with Lagavulin Cask Strength!
Nose: Lovely and medicinal, with tarry ropes and some spend bandages, there’s a lot of minerality going on in here as well, lemon zest hovers above and a sweet/salty sensation with barley sweetness, smoke, and white pepper, with water hint of olive brine, is more pronounced, as well as tasted oak, and hints of sea-spray. we’re definitely on islay time. Palate: That’s a Lagavulin alright, and It would take a genius to spot that even blindfolded. very much the Lagavuling style – lovely bonfires, quite a lot of sweet smoke, and more of the lemon, some pepper, and chili bite, but not too hot and fairly lovely to sip, more of the saline-y touch, and brine, olives, and sea salt, oysters and bitter toasted wood, and peat reek, soot and coal, TCP. Finish: salty, smoky, tarry, sweet peated barley eaten from the floor malting, bitter smoky chocolate, and lemon. lovely. Conclusion: This year’s 12 year old does not disappoint in any way. Excellent stuff, high-quality ‘laga’ for you. around 130 quid is not cheap though – for a 12 year old even at ‘cask strength’, but they will sell well. I wonder how it would match against the 26-year-old. more info soon.
the nose iz astounding.. absolutely, quintessential Islay nose.. powerful, straight up smokey and salty, fat peat and loads of wild sage.. as for the rest, i can understand where the pretty words come from, i especially like the oiliness and the salty licorice, but it’s just too young and rough for me.. somehow, I just cannot seem to connect with the house of Lagavulin
It is incomprehensible to me how this Lagavulin gets an overall rating of 90.15 and how numerous well-known users can assign 91 and 92 points here. Did I miss something? I like smokers, and they don't necessarily have to be particularly old to be good - but here my impressions are so far removed from the ratings that I actually had to check again whether the bottle divider from which I got the sample, is legit. If you were to sell this here as a Scarabus for 50 €, it would be available at a reasonable price and would get its 87 points in the base. For me, he fits in seamlessly with a large number of interchangeable, young and edgy smokers.

Asphalt, ginseng tempura (trust me, I had it at a Korean restaurant recently, not a fan tbh), brine, salted lemon, marble that gradually turned into mouldy seaweed. The peatiness with preserved vegetal characteristics was distinctive. Pine, raw turnips, mouldy wood shavings and became smokier and earthier near the rim bottom. Sweeter as it spent longer in the glass, like beetroot and lemon juice concentrate. After a sip, damp leather sofa on a super humid day. Smoky broiled meat from the emptied glass. |

Blind, you can think of a Caol Ila by its sweet and salty side at the same time. One can also think of a Laphroaig by the medicinal profile of the peat. I also find the toasted side of some versions of Uigeadail The lemony side of Lagavulin is also present. A good 12-year-old Lagavulin can be more marine than the others. Fairly long finish with a veil of fine liquorice. You have to give it some time in the glass.
Sweet maritime ash. Insanely peaty which makes it quite hard to find anything else but sweetness coming from the barrel. Very drinkable but quite ordinary

Lagavulin always places behind other Islay single malts for me. Diageo usually dilutes it and overprices it. IB's are hard to find in my area, and I think in general. So, here we have a age stated, cask strength, and what I presume is natural color Laga. I love it.

An outstanding, uncompromising Lagavulin. The refill American oak casks give the distillate plenty of room to breathe – allowing the smoke, salt, citrus, and typical maritime character to take center stage. For me, one of the stronger 12-year-old Lagavulin Special Releases.

Price goes up while quality goes down. That is how the Lagavulin Special Releases go by nowadays, at least in my books. I just don't feel the oomph that many others have with their extensive reviews of 89,90,91 and 92 points. Then again, points are personal. For me, this release has everything a Lagavulin has to offer, from the smoky peat brine to clam chowder, seagrass, and all that smokey peaty goodness. But it's boring, I can get this flavor profile in previous bottlings. So why should I give it a nice high rating for these amazing notes which can be found in cheaper bottles than I still have on my shelf? 85 last year (2020 edition), maybe I'll be generous and give it an 86 as there is an edge in comparison to the previous batch. That said, this is just another Lagavulin to me. I am being haunted by the past batches that continue to amaze me.

The nose is clear and honest, as the color suggests. The alcohol is noticeable but well integrated. Very typical Lagavulin notes come straight to me. Campfire smoke, some iodine, seaweed and ash. But at the same time a pleasant sweetness, almost a bit like shortbread. Put some lemon on top. I take it very pleasantly and it was round with a manageable complexity - which I neither expect nor miss given its age. |

The alcohol is a little more present than on the nose. The smoke spreads immediately, followed by a lemon cake in which a piece of ginger has got lost. The salty, ashy notes from the nose are also present on the palate. A small impact from the tannins gives it a nice volume together with the smoke. |

For me, quite simply the best 12-year-old Special Release Lagavulin since the awesome 2016 (my personal favourite throughout the last few years). Actually imho this 2021 is combining the smooth characters of 2015 with the complexity and truly astounding length of 2016. Will need to taste them H2H and after some time of opening, but unfortunately no open 2016 currently (please help..????) As for the price: not cheap by any means, but for me, that's unfortunately in line with current pricing of over 10 years Islay Cask Strength? Quite shockingly doesn't... shock me anymore.
A really successful Laga!

[November, 2021] I screened my old books to find out the price history of this classic 12-years old cask strength Lagavulin edition - here it is: 65€ (2002/3), 84€ (2011/2), 94€ (2015/6), 97€ (2019), 112€ (2020) and now 125€ (2021). It seems as if the price increase significantly accelerates over the last two years... ...but the quality can not keep that pace. Personally I still like the 2019 edition best while this year's release is a little better than last year's. Nevertheless, all three are still on a high quality level making Lagavulin one of the most consistent distilleries of the last decades.

The colour is pale straw and the nose offers the trademark clean Lagavulin profile but it smells a little less mature than my beloved 2019 edition. Maybe this edition is a little too much polished and "streamlined" and this does not change even after a longer breathing time. |

The taste offers an unusual but interesting maritime spike with a powerful saltiness, smoked oysters and seaweed in a rich malty-wooden sauce. This is really delicious and very interesting to explore. After some chewing the barley sugars grow stronger and sooth the bitter peaty and wooden flavours which re-establishes a fine balance of flavours. The second dram is even better than the first was, so be generous and reward yourself with a rather bigger measure when tasting this beauty! |

The initial mouthfeel is a little hot (due to the high abv) which quickly dissolves into a warming and nicely coating texture without distracting moments. The finish is long and adds more maritime-peaty impressions beside cold bonfire ashes (imagine an extinguished peat-fired BBQ at the shores of Islay). Some water turns both nose and taste more punchy (alcoholic) and releases a tasty chocolatey note during the finish. A bigger reduction takes the punchiness away again and releases the maritime impressions in the nose too (great!) while the taste smooths and turns even more quaffable. I like to explore this dram neat first but then I prefer to saviour it at a reduced level of about 46% abv. |
Nose: Tar, freshly laid asphalt. seaweed, flotsam. almond butter and olives. orange zest. Barley malt, Schlenkerla smoked beer. Mouth: Compared to the Talisker Special Release it's like day and night. Full mouthfeel, voluminous aromas. Oily in the mouth. Olive oil, almond butter, limoncello, cantuccini. But all covered in a layer of greasy smoke. nori sheets. Bamberg smoked beer again. Finish: Long, sweet and maritime at the same time, ash. 90/100

Big nose, green, seaweed, sea, green tea. With air easier, hardware store, ashy smoke. With water: Small green plant section recapitulation, then more mashy, younger. Reminds of the contrast Tali Special Release vs. current Tali 10 ... Mouth - with water: Lagavulin-typical fragrant smoke note, bergamot, star fruit, very nice, then bitter almond, resin, smoldering campfire. Mash later, etc. The nose benefits briefly, but then returns to the youthful aromas. Medium-long finish, bitter almond, seaweed, green tea, hammer. Hm, in the mouth already next-level-reduced smoke lagavulina flavors, which the current 16er is only beginning to offer, otherwise youthful ... With 90 ++ I would not come, and not even with 150 €, more than smoke with barrel pimped It definitely has taste to offer.

As soon as my sample is opened, an overlying smell of ash penetrates the living room. Swirled through the glass, pale straw yellow, it offers citrus fruits that are overlaid with alcohol. As a connoisseur, I would appreciate it if the 16y was delivered in the usual old quality. Instead, it is bottled with toothache-killing 56.5%, which makes it unnecessarily aggressive and unbalanced in taste and finish. I can only understand Lagavulin's strategy in monetary terms

Smoke, salt, and lumber— were we building longboats or outriggers on the shore? Wood, tar, and hessian kept that imagine front of mind as more subtle layers of citrus rind, vanilla, menthol, and wormwood appeared. A touch of glue and turpentine provided a chemical or medicinal edge. Medium-bodied on the palate, the flavors were similar, though buttery citrus came to the fore leaving charred wood, tar, hessian, sand, and salt further in the background with peeled oranges. We took a break from shipbuilding to dine on buttery rolls, clotted cream, and rhubarb preserves. Toward the end came black pepper and a touch of motor oil. The finish was long and buttery with ash, sand, pepper, and sea. Surprisingly balanced, the aroma was a touch odd and not altogether composed, but everything fell into place on the palate. I was surprised how well the spirit felt integrated, while some of the Lagavulin I have had lately were quite peppery, this saved those elements for a mild finale. This was incredibly buttery on the palate. Though the peat shy may still find it a bit acrid or even bitter at times, I thought it was wonderfully composed. Overall, this was one of the few times I found the aroma of a whisky less than desirable, but the palate full of fun.
I can only agree with FCBayernMuenchen1900: The current price is outrageous and ridiculously high. Where's the common sense? Price and performance do not go together here. After all, we are not even told how many bottles have been filled in the first place!

Peaty, smoky, ash, roasted orange peel, iodine, roasted aromas, citric, medicinal. Creamy, grainy, strong body, warming, piquant, pronounced intensity. Little depth, a little masty.

On the nose there are hints of sand, algae, boat ropes, salt, iodine, lemons and a little bit of medicine Sandy beach, ropes of tar, with sea spray and iodine bandages. On the palate it is oily, a distinct note of peat is immediately felt, then comes the malt, salted and slightly burnt caramel, seafood, a strong note of chilli, brine and green citrus. Final: medium long, with hints of tar, slightly acrid smoke, wood and lemon. Definitely less sweet than that of 2020.
Pure Lagavulin power, as perfectly illustrated by the label. To be honest, I cannot tell how the 2021 compares to previous years since I am not tasting any side by side, but I do know that the 12yo is damn consistent year after year after year. This is balanced for what it is, full of oomph, full of pungent peat, somewhat creamy even, and it has that slight seasalt/hint of sourness/herbacious quality that just makes this a winner. Quite sweet also... not fruity but more sugary lemony liqueur. I bought two bottles. I will drink one. And I will gift the other to a favorite relative of mine (meaning I'm not totally convinced this is *that* special, despite someone famous giving it a 92 points). Still, a 90 in my book is special enough!

I usually found the 12 yo releases very good but a tad too sweet. There is still some sweet peat in this one but it's more balanced. A simple clean but very good Lagavulin.
Good Lagavulin, unfortunately no longer the price-performance ratio.

A very good, simple Lagavulin. No errors and very good for the key data. I'm missing the special and for me this is just a very good young cask strength standard that reflects flavors of an Islay whisky from the bourbon casks.

As long as this whisky is that expensive, I am not going to buy it. I really cannot understand that people are paying that much money for a simple 12 year old whisky at cask strength without even thinking about it. It is definitely not worth 130 Euros or even more. There is a lot of whisky out there that gives you much better value for your money. 1 example is Arran 18 ! years old. Is anyone waking up now ?
Color: White wine Summary: Excellent Lagavulin - recommended, but you must be a peat lover.

21+ 20 20 20 81+ From the opening, - Light ethereality, the nose is smoother than in the releases of 2019 and 2020, which were opened at the same time, but... but then the taste and aftertaste were upset, this whisky clearly requires time. Ok, I'll give him a good breath, that usually helps!) final update - he breathed until March 14, 2024 - yes, it became better, but not dramtically, too much charred oak, ok, this bottle never “sank”, it happens...

scbp-6254, the peat degree seems to be lower than in previous years. It is now known that this year's barrel smell seems to be weaker, so in comparison, the possibility of a sharp reduction in peat degree does not seem to be small.

Laga 12sr, whose Webe score has gone to Mars I was curious and was thinking about buying it, but I felt expensive, so I got what I didn't buy in exchange. Nose: Pete, alcohol kick welcomes me. There seems to be a smell like green apples behind it, but it's hard to keep up with it. Palette: It has a good body and good strength. I think it's because the weight class of alcohol is different from the Lagade I drank today. It was hard on the nose, but it goes well in the mouth. That's great. The bitter taste is also very weak. Finish: Weak, leaving a lingering aftertaste of feet and green apples. Overall Review: A delicious and well-made drink. The alcohol is great, but there aren't many off-notes. The biggest downside is the price. The price is reasonable in Korea, but it is expensive if you buy it directly from overseas. In conclusion, the Weebe score is 'to some extent', and the price is reasonable.
There is Caol Ila, Ardbeg, there is the typical Lagavulin taste! nose: fresh peat, wet spray, a medicinal side, there is salt, salted fish, a meaty return, fresh and cooked lemon peppery spices, it's also sweet, buttery and on chocolate fat stuffy: sweet, intense sweet peat, fruits on candied citrus fruits, there is this meaty return which gives relief in the mouth, the velvety lemon, the spices which make the scents explode, it's agreed and terribly good, addictive; a whisky is simply that: the return to humidified fish crates, to the seaweed fire warming sailors on their sea trip, the dry oak, sweet, creamy vanilla, sweet candied fruit, a little malt, nuts, cocoa final: long, intense, maritime, meaty, candied fruit, more ashy on the finish
Lagavulin; what else?!

Diageo's annual cask-strength whisky line Lagavulin 2021.
light golden, ...in the nose peat and smoke, seaweed and iodine, like a gentle breeze from the sea, light spice of white pepper and bright fruits ...on the tongue sea salt, campfire smoke and peat, spicy white pepper, very strong, mineral, honey and salt, very deep layers... Medium to long finish of bright, sweet grapes mixed with salt and smoke... Very tasty ????
Flawless scotch, except for the price. Matured in refill American oak casks. Non-chill filtered. Not coloured. Thick slow primary legs. Slowly forming secondary legs. Droplets. Holds water well. Advanced level whisky.
Tasted during the "Islay King 2024" blind tasting: Lime peel, green apple, pears... all properly smoked. Very maritime with smoked eel.

A truly super “no-nonsense” peated whisky. Although the super nuances of peat are ahead of the distillate, the balance achieved, the degree of iodizedness and so on make this whisky extraordinary. The price is a bit more complicated. The price abroad is a bit too high, but that shouldn’t be a reason for those who like this type of whisky not to buy it. The price in Turkey is like free. Extraordinary quality. Super whisky. Price performance: Medium-good. Would I buy it again?: Yes.

A super peaty nose. Seashells, iodine and moss. Medicinal and smoke. Band-aid. Burnt and earthy touches. Wet soil and clay. A slightly leafy lively side. 1-2 notes reminiscent of umami. An extraordinary balance considering the alcohol level. Very low burning, zero bitterness. Light sweetness. Super peat nuances, really a super experience for a peat lover. 12 years old, it has reached the right maturity. Light red apple note with sweetness from below. Balanced despite the peat being intense; does not overwhelm. Iodine decreases a little on the palate and reaches a full enjoyable level. Still quite kelpy. Super complexity. Really enjoyable. Super |

Lots of smoke and coal at first, over time slightly sour coal is given over. Medium length, medium intensity. A herbal side; Burnt rosemary. As I mentioned before; the bitterness and pungency being under control makes it really enjoyable. Despite everything, it does not get as high a score as the palate in my eyes because it is not very complex. |

Ocean water, limestone, sand, hint of unsweetened caramel, oak, a sugared bitter lactic taste like skim milk that's been left out too long (and sugared), which is gross. The ABV integrates well. I much prefer the standard Lagavulin 16 and their 2022 12 year old Feis Ile. My enjoyment of drinking this is 59/100, but if it wasn't for the rotten milk taste, I'd give it an 88/100.
