Отдельно отмечают сложность и баланс: «incredibly complex, fruity-sweet and balanced» [r3], «balance and harmony in all the big flavors» [r13], «wonderful balance of all components» [r8].
[r19] отмечает, что тёмные ароматы почти уходят в соевый соус и имеют «all sorts of little bitterness notes», и это «not quite my style». Таким образом, в текстах виден не единодушный, а скорее преимущественно положительный отклик с заметной оговоркой у части авторов насчёт горечи и древесности.

A perfect DRAM. Incredibly harmonious. Perfect in taste. A lot has already been written about it, so I'll spare it here.
Well, this one is quite disappointing. In my opinion, it should have been taken out of the cask earlier. It's far too bitter for me. I usually enjoy dry sherry influences. But this one is far too one-sided for me, at least on the palate. Chocolate, spices, and brutal oak flavors. I miss counterpoints like tart fruit and nutty sherry influences. The finish is again very nice with dark dried fruits and leather. Age has left more than just bitterness here, and also reveals typical Glenfarclas notes of apricot kernels.

The nose neat, is full of mixed fruit jams with a hint of coffee, fruit syrup is the order of the day on show here. Tangy fruit on the palate but also spice from the wood, a bit like some of the best middle-aged bourbons but not as pronounced. On the palate the sweetness is being overtaken quite quickly by the wood, it is almost like the sweetness has come to a stop, hit a brick wall etc. I cannot get anywhere near the high scores on here by other members, not sweet enough for me. Proficient without being exciting.

One of my favorite Malts. Close to perfection
This is how sherry malt should taste. Strong, plum-fruity, spicy; Berry compote with some cinnamon, mouth-filling. Pleasant oak notes, leather. Right: The "old library". You can keep the malt in your mouth longer and will always discover new flavors. The wonderful balance of all components would have to be added. From the premium snifter with the best family cask and one of the best spirits ever.

Very sweet and dense, we are no doubt in the sherry malt heaven. Because: Intense juicy plum, enriched with cinnamon. The old oak tree in the old barrel warehouse immediately reports. Dark berries, marjoram. Forest floor. And yes, some dark Glenfarclas honey is dripped into the blackberry compote. A mint leaf ensures the right freshness. You just have to love such noses. Ok, I definitely love this fragrance. |

Full cinnamon plum, spicy, berry compote. Oak and leather indicate the age. The 52.3% are not disturbing in any phase, they simply strengthen the appearance. It is a Scottish single malt from the sherry barrel. In perfection. Age, fruity notes and spices give a wonderful overall picture. |

In the finish, all of this continues, the honey is added again and the aroma arrangement is never unbalanced. It stays tight and it stays long. |
Dark fruits, dried fruits, cherries, liquorice, tobacco, sherry wood, menthol, deep dark sherry, very enjoyable

[November, 2018] After four very delicious bourbon cask-matured Glenfarclas from the Summer 2018 release of The Family Casks (vintages 1977-80) I have to conclude this little tasting session with a sherried 'farclas, for sure. So I selected the darkest vintage out of this release... ...and it is the lush old style sherry-matured dram I hoped for! Such casks were quite common before the paxarette ban of the SWA in 1989 (which was the most stupied thing they did, by the way) and (almost) every whisky connoisseur adores such drams - simply look at the high ratings here at WB (they are more than justified)! If I could I would kick the SWA guy who proposed the paxarette ban into his (you select which part is best)... [September, 2020] I re-tasted this dram tonight and fully confirm my old review and score. A great old-style sherry monster which did not ate the whisky completely, like so many others did. Fine stuff to quaff.

The colour is brown sherry and the nose offers a bold old style (and for sure paxarette-improved) sherry nose that is simply ... unmatched by any dram after the paxarette ban of 1989. It is not just completely sulphur-free but free of all other off-notes or imbalances too. Yes, the sherry is massive but still the powerful Glenfarclas malt manages to hold its head up. This nose is almost rum-alike given its intense power and it offers high esthers and muscovado sugars beside fir honey (including hints of tree resin), fruits, spices and marzipan. Ooh, what a pleasure to sniff! Where is the guy with the paxarette ban??? |

The taste is nicely layered on both sherry-induced and malty flavours in a fine balance. There are fruits (both home-grown and exotic), raisins, nuts, vanillas, tannins, sugars, spices and and and ... no one tries to dominate the others! A perfect composition without any flaw - that is extremely quaffable. Bring me that guy with the paxarette ban, please!!! Water turns the dram smoother and more approachable - actually I like both the power of the neat and the charming beauty of the reduced dram (best at about 43% abv). |

The initial mouthfeel is ... simply great. A pleasant warming and coating feeling takes place with the right amount of bitter tannins to keep the enormous sherry-sweetness under control. The finish is virtually endless and adds more delicious spices and chocolatey notes. A minor bitter note develops towards the end but this is welcomed to counter the sherry sweetness. Okay, finally I condemn the guy with the paxarette ban to drink a dram of the modern style and sulphur-spoiled sherried whisky every night right before going to bed... |
The nose is world class! Creamy and velvety, aromatic and extremely fruity, sweet and delicate. The taste is dignified and old fruit and wood flavors to advantage, a herbal and spicy note is the dominant all the time in the foreground. Only the undefinable end of the after-sound confuses me a little. Otherwise, this Glenfarclas is one of my best Family Casks I've had in the glass lately! Full of character, balanced and incredibly delicious! 24/23/23/23 (93P)

This is one superb oldschool sherried Glenfarclas! This cask delivered a juicy and very, very tasty whisky that can leave you mesmerizing for hours because of it's complex and ever changing character. It's no sherry monster like modern day whiskies, but instead it demonstrates balance and harmony in all the big flavors like juicy red fruits, dried exotic fruits, spices, sweets, nuts and old wood. Easily sits in my top 10 best whiskies ever tasted.
A perfect sherry whisky with Paxarette and ester notes - it doesn't get much more than that. Between 94 and 95 points and one of my all-time top 5 to 10 whiskys. This is due to the complex nose and wonderful mouthfeel/finish. The taste falls off a bit behind it, which sounds almost mocking on a palate with 93.5 points. A worthy whisky for Christmas Eve. The short version: this is a perfect whisky, a magnificent Family Cask work of art and a Glenfarclas Dark Sherry benchmark whisky. The special ester notes of fruit and rubber set this whisky apart from other perfect sherry malts with over 90 points.

This is not only a perfect, dark sherry nose, but also a complex one. In the foreground are the classic aromas you would expect: leather, old wood, cherries, even lots of cherries and tobacco, a Maduro cigar leaf. But then straight away a bunch of menthol. Ultra-pure, incredibly clean and smooth, although smooth doesn't mean negative here. Paxarette and ester notes; What more could you want from a malt like this? The ester notes in the blender glass are in the direction of menthol, Jamaican rum with rubber and berries. Be sure to smell it in the blender glass because these notes are hardly noticeable in the Glencairn. 2-3 points difference between the Blenders glass and the Glencairn. Of course, this nose doesn't need water, but with water the whisky becomes even more like cherry, plum, etc., which is almost trivial here. |

93.5 Also on the palate there is again a lot of ester rubber note, then dark, dry leather, a bit of residual sweetness from very dry raisins, astringent tobacco note and then again rubbery ester, perhaps with a bit of cassis ester fruit aroma. With water more dark fruit sweetness, still in the 92 point range, but still not necessary. |

94.5 The mouthfeel continues to expand, warming, drying, then becoming sweeter and sweeter, like a 99 point Parker Sherry. Exactly that sweetness. The finish is super long, I think the last finish that was this long (and even longer) was the Glen Grant Mr. George Legacy from 1953 at 67 years old and just under 60 percent. Here, every drop of water only destroys the already existing perfection. |

Color: perfect, fairly medium dark color. Thick streaks on the edge of the glass. Nose: Rum raisin, sweetness, flawless, depth, alcohol well integrated, grapey, very little stickiness. Palate: Sweetness, some earthiness, honey, diluted to about 46%, raisins, vanilla, mouthcoating, oily, a little pleasant oak spice. Finish: long, sweet, a certain dryness, pleasant bitterness, harmonious. A great family cask.

It has class, but is too woody-bitter for me to get a top rating. 86-90 – Wow, really good one, need a bottle

My God this is top class stuff! Absolutely an astonishing whisky. Rarely well balanced and sophisticated. It has that typical old style smell. What I would describe as a musty/dusty blanket laying on top of it. And I like that a lot! A truly fantastic dram.

If you like dark aromas that almost go over in soy sauce and have all sorts of little bitterness notes, here's the perfect malt. Not quite my style.
A very deep and intense Glenfarclas, that preforms as designed. A flawless, modern sherry cask. I appreciate a good sherry bomb every now and again, but it’s not my favourite style. Anyone buying whisky this colour knows what they are in for, it delivers on that and then some.

High powered Demerara rum, very deep and rich. Molasses. Dense. Luxardo cherries, orange zest. Brown sugar, stewed raisin. Pecans, and wet mint. A wool sweater. It is a little estery. Some nutmeg, cinnamon, cocoa and fresh paint. Very nice barrel and accomplishes exactly what’s intended. |

I was allowed to try some good drops from the Glenfarclas Family Cask series. Some were quite sulphurous, or alcoholic, others good, but not brilliant. However, this bottling of Cask 13005 represents the best of this series for me. Still, the bottle is reasonably affordable and you should access if you want a chubby-warm sweet balanced and harmoniously sherry-flavored whisky with a relaxed depth.
