Отдельно встречаются краткие «wine like, hardly peated» [r97] и «nothing for the fainthearted… real stinker» [r106].

The bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks are completely integrated. They contribute sweetness, dark fruit and richness while still allowing Ardbeg’s familiar and distinctive smoky distillate character to shine through. The casks support and deepen the spirit rather than dominating it. A powerful yet beautifully balanced combination of peat, rich fruit, sweetness and barbecue smoke. Ardbeg Uigeadail remains an outstanding whisky and comfortably retains its 91-point on my permanent-shelf score.

Lovely bonfire smoke leads into rich stewed fruit, coal tar, honey, earthy peat and barbecue smoke. Powerful and expressive, with the sweetness and darker aromas beautifully integrated into the smoke. Rich, dark and fruity, with sweet malt, bonfire smoke, glazed ham and smoky barbecue flavours. The fruit and sweetness provide excellent balance, preventing the peat from becoming too aggressive. |

Long and satisfying, leaving dark fruit, peat ash, coastal salinity and warming baking spices. The smoke remains persistent without overwhelming the sweeter fruits. |
Opened a bottle from circa 6 years to compare it to the new Smokiverse. Well, the Uge was never a favorite of mine, I always found it rather alcolic and aggressive, but with a good spot of water and prolonged time it opens up nicly. Peraps I was just a bit unfair to the Uge. I see the 10er, the An Oa, and especially the new Smokiverse as a bit better stuff, in my opinion. But it has a very clean and VERY WELL balanced Sherry touch, really well in place.
September 28, 2022 90.5 / 100 Color: Dark amber, natural. Not chill-filtered. AROMA - 23 / 25 Full-bodied and complex. Sweet and winey, like mulled wine with spices. We find old wood and a damp cellar, dried fruit (mainly apples), cider with cinnamon and chocolate with dried fruit, as well as old wood and leather. The alcohol is present but well-integrated. TASTE - 23 / 25 First, a dry, varnishy finish with a generous amount of wood, followed by sweet caramel and plums. There's a hint of ripe fruit, baked apples, and smoked plums. There's also a hint of rainforest and fireplace smoke. A truly delicious and full-bodied whisky. FINISH - 22 / 25 It's an evolution of fruity smoke, lingering, interwoven with a sea breeze. True to the flavor, it's lingering. BALANCE - 22.5 / 25 This is probably my favorite mainstream Ardbeg. It perfectly captures what I'm looking for in a whisky. It's simply smooth smoke and sweetness in perfect proportions for a Daily Dram.

Wow amazing, love this Ardbeg. I offered to build a display case for miniatures at a liquor store in town and agreed for some cash and a bottle of scotch. This was my choice, and glad it was. This version is spectacular, not for the novice though

N: Clean, vibrant with descriptors on soot, onions and scrub. Very open and minerally. T: Strong yet gentle [at the same time] and peppery, with a continuous/giving of vibrancy. Stays faithful to itself from the nose to finish. Smoke, vegetal and coastal peat present throughout and impeccably behaved. Add a little water and you have the thicker, slicker and more cohesive malt than I remember from a few years back. Becomes more creamy with streaky bacon smokiness and 'dark' woody and vegetal notes surge forth. F: More onion fresh with sweetish malt, lots of mineral notes and subtle action at the death. With water, gritty, coal tar and more creaminess, now coming from the initial development. C: A very good, clean dram neat, reminiscent of the most recent Ardbeg NAS offerings (i.e. Perpetuum) - but with water it becomes more huge, cohesive, complex and stupidly drinkable. The best its been in the last three years. Scores an A-

Very aromatic, multi-layered malt with harmoniously integrated aromas.
Very good malt, really great!
Have tried different versions and find that the quality has waned in recent years, unfortunately. Pity!
I found this one was at its best with a teaspoon of water to ~30ml and left for about 12-20 minutes. After that, the nose and palate just seem to become more harmonious and engaging experiences. They also become a touch less vegetal and a bit sweeter. The 10 y.o. is good, but this one adds just a bit more to the experience. I'm not a big peat fan, but this one, in my humble opinion, is good.
I just tried four different Uigeadails (2008, 2011, 2012, and 2016) together and from the comparison it was obvious that this product is on a roughly linear downward trajectory. 2008 was the sherriest, meatiest, and heaviest. 2011 still had many similar things going on, but 2012 was already a deviation with much reduced sherry sweetness and heavy herbal salts note on top of everything. Compared to the three older ones, the 2016 was a pitiable bottle of almost-new make with yeastiness that couldn't be found from the other ones. I scored the 2008 88 pts., the 2011 87, the 2012 86, and the 2016 84.

Whisky with depth and complexity, in which the added aged sherry casks play the main role, making its profile completely different from that of the standard Ardbeg. Undoubtedly the best malt coming from this distillery that you could find at a reasonable price. Unfortunately, its quality varies greatly and I hear from many places that the trend is not positive.
Compared to the 10s warmer and fruity, the sherry barrels have turned the green of the basic character into yellow. Due to the increased alcohol content, it is also a bit rougher on the finish. With a little water it opens up a bit, becomes creamier and even more fruity. Great addition to the 10, but it still makes a somewhat unripened impression to me, probably the older barrels are slowly becoming scarce (2018 bottling). Note 1-
The spicy sherried Ardbeg. A classic. 87. I prefer its woody counterpart with a more unique and complex profile, to which I would then give 88 (the corry), but it is a matter of taste after all. Really a nice whisky of its kind for the price. A very classic for spicy peat enthusiasts.

A fine drop of Ardbeg bottled at cask strength. A marriage of Ardbeg from bourbon barrel and sherry butt which gives a sweet and smokey finish to this malt. Uigeadail is the loch from which all Ardbeg water flows. An absolutely stunning whisky, and following the demise of the Airigh nam Beist this probably represents the best value in the core range.
More interesting than the Ardbeg Ten due to the sherry share.

Far far superior to the last standard 10yo i had. There’s an awkward umami here with the modest sweetness losing out to the more dominant bitter sour which in turn is superseded by robust savoury=sweet malt. Its all held together by the oily, bitter, charred peat. Really good stuff. Scores a B+

I have put a sample of the Corryvreckan next to it and have to say that I think the Corry is a bit better. The Corry is much more spicy and fuller in the nose and lets the Ardbeg profile speak more. If I have to choose then I choose the Corryvreckan but this is in the Islay peat profile together with the CS version of Lagavulin and a few IB from Bowmore and Caol Ila a topper. Of all these whiskys I think this Ugadail does jump out of it, I think the Lagavulin 12CS is not worth the extra price for example. Although it does indicate a year, so that is a plus. Maybe an Ardbeg 12 CS sherry and bourbon wood release;)

Very good whisky. Excellent equilibrium between three different influences : the bourbon casks, the sherry casks and the peated malt. Even though it can be drunk without water, I would definitely recommend adding some to enhance the drinking experience.

Water: Bigger sherry, big orange and lime juiciness, marzipan, cinnamon, jelly babies, some sour lime too, ash, charcoal. More dark and earthy after a bit- Leather, coffee and dark chocolate. Also sticky toffee pudding, maple syrup and caramel. Fresh and juicy while still dense and earthy. Taste: Big intensely sweet arrival on brown sugar, dirty orange and lime citrus, quite juicy smoke coming up, campfire, peat smoke, creamy oil, oily malt, then the citrus and smoke intermingle more with some sweet BBQ and a juicy burst into the finish. Water: Sweeter and juicier- Orange and lime powerful and pure, then ashy and more earthy complexity with some dirty sherry. Some spicy white pepper. Finish: Long length. Sweet and earthy with malt, kiln, sherry and a little spice. Water: Drier with sour lime and coffee, some salt coming through.

A very maritime Ardbeg, full bodied, full power - Great!
I am rating a 2007 Uigeadail. It is just superb. The finish lingers and lingers with rich peat, sweet notes of herbs, espresso, toffee, and lemon. Very drinkable at cask strength but opens up with a bit of water. Oh so good. As for the newer releases of Uigeadail, I'm not so impressed. This 2007 is extremely dark--up past burnished copper. Today, the color is quite light--between white wine and pale straw. It's not nearly as complex as it once was, probably owing to considerably younger whisky in the NAS release. Uigies are still a good deal for the money, even the new release. I found this rare 2007 release in a very rough part of town up on the top shelf, covered in dust. There was a "bum war" outside between two homeless cart pushers. I had to edge around the sidewalk and parked cars to enter the store without risking collateral damage to my person. The journey was well worth it. My gamble paid off in spades.

Great dram, especially in the mouth
Let's compare two Uigeadails: a 75cl US bottle with bottling code starting L8 from 2008, and a 70cl version bottled in 2016 with code L66. For all intents and purposes, L8 and L66 are not the same whisky, and I would not buy a bottle of L66. Having liked the Corryvreckan back when it was released, and having been unimpressed of late when trying a glass of it at a bar, I get this feeling that as the years have gone by, the Ardbeg NAS range has converged in taste, and now it's all this oddly thin, saline, planky stuff regardless of the product line. L8 gets a solid 88 pts. while L66 only nets 84.

After standing in a glass for about 15 minutes, the aroma started to disperse around the room, it was something smoked, I think that's it, it's time) I was a little nervous, because until that moment I had not tried island whisky, but from what I read about it, I thought that there was a smoky, burning you drink . It’s excellent on the nose, bacon immediately appeared, then something sweet, not malt sweet, but some kind of fruit cake, even probably with red berries, then smoke, prunes and some charcoal. It tastes like seaweed, then a little seafood, iodine, and at the end the taste of coals slipped from the pot, which is baked in a fire. Very tasty. For 54 degrees, the taste is soft, enveloping, it seemed even silky to me. Later, Water added, I didn’t find any changes in the aroma, but I didn’t like the taste, it became sharp and prickly, I concluded for myself that I would not add water to this Ardbeg. Non-diluted drink is very easy and delicious.

Complex ardbeg, my first, after it has stood for a while it opens, this ardbeg also feels a bit young, I taste a metallic note, the high alcohol pushes it away a bit.
Uigeadail does what it does - still very competently. When it was released, older casks from before the distillery shut-down and re-opening were involved. Of course it did offer an overall better, more complex and superior experience. But since it was a special, non-repeatable, time, for me this comparson falls short and is unfair. Nowadays some batches of Oogie are darker, more sherried, some brighter or bolder in taste, but the overall distillate quality of Ardbeg - regardless of changes in style - is still very high and deserves a compliment. And prices for the Oogie have rather come down in recent years than gone up. That's quite remarkable imho! So, Bravo, Ardbeg! Now go and make your special releases as good as your regulars..! XD
One of my favourite everyday dram. Easy to find, good value for money.

The Ardbeg Uigeadail is full, peaty, sherry dram that changes massively from bottling to bottling. The first bottlings contained old barrels, newer ones probably no longer. I was able to taste all vintages from 03 to 12. All have their justification and quality. Sometimes sherry, sometimes smokier. Personally I prefer the L4, it's full and meaningful. Each Uigeadail is its own dram. An adventure.

The rich smokey flavor and rich body feel pleasantly in the mouth. It is slightly salty and the pitiness passes, and it feels like rolling rare bacon in the mouth. It has a sweet honey or caramel feel, but personally, I prefer whisky with a lighter body. equivalence A smokey smell from the second parafilm to the vial lol Sherry is not felt much in the nose. In terms of taste, raisins smoked with tobacco leaves, salty taste, and smokey are sweet and easy to pass, but like raisins wrapped in chocolate, likes and dislikes seem to be divided. The sherry feet such as Kilhoman and Lagavulin were delicious, but Ugadal did not feel harmonious. The finish is long like a pit, and the dark red fruit character is attractive.
(Bottle date 15/11/2021) First batches were great, had one a few years ago that wasn't (bland with too much oak influence). Though not on par with the old ones, this one's pretty nice again.

First impression / color / viscosity: Yes, a classic - only the packaging and marketing Blah blah on it enchant me. Of course, the first impression is due to the smoke. Color: saffron / viscosity: very oily run-off Aroma / Nose feeling: Pleasant feeling at the first Verriechen, only light alcoholic stinging (passes). Pleasant smoke that reminds me of a burnt camp fire. Such a campfire on which you sat all night and the next morning even smells like the ashes. Slightly grassy and already very sweet when I smelt, I would also describe the malt. Over time, caramelized lemon peels that blend in harmoniously. Taste / mouthfeel: This sweetness, this freshness, this citrus note - I just love it. At the beginning, the scotch tingles on the tip of the tongue and the oak turns the pepper mill on the inside of the cheeks. As a result, I notice the stunningly chocolaty, creamy mouthfeel with the ubiquitous smoke and superbly incorporated alcohol. With water, the single malt is a perfect treat. Round and sweet, slightly spicy with green wood, vanilla and nut cream. In addition, unripe peach and green grapes and their seeds. Except for the Octomore OBA I could not find this purity, balance and perfection in any other smoker (heavily peated, without majority ex-Sherry Fassreifung). Sure, there are plenty of other good smokers but as here, in the way no one else came into the glass. Finish / aftertaste / Length: A long, sweet finish, which is characterized by the pleasant smoke. The finish also reflects floral and especially refreshing aromas. The Nachschmecken is minimal bitter and a bit sour. I feel like spending a long evening in a smoky bar. Overall impression / comment: I have to admit that I'm not objective here - I just love this malt and all the trappings around it. I even like the progressive marketing of Ardbeg, as it obviously is marketing and I do not have to feel kidding as a customer (in contrast, I hate "back-end marketing"). Well at least regarding flavors / taste: For me (!) This is the best single malt Scotch, which is constantly available and still priced in the (subjectively) affordable framework holds. At least from those I've tasted so far ... Points: 95/100; By the way, the original from 2003 (bottled) got one more point with me ...

This whisky is hard to score as there is a high degree of batch variation. I've had some I'd rate as high as 95 points, but some bottlings are closer to 85 points. It's never a bad whisky, but it isn't always a great whisky. In my experience, the sherry presence is the wild variable; some batches taste like smoked Christmas cake whereas others taste like they forgot to "add" any sherry casked whiskies in the vatting.

Of the standard OA Ardbegs, surely one of the front scratching the 90 points.
Single dram note from an Uigeadail vertical tasting: L3 283 00:43 4ML neat: 86/87. w water: 87 Transferring previous Note (2011.12.20) content into a Tasting Note
Pours medium gold, significantly darker than same-year 10 y/o. Nose is sharp, full of ocean coast, diesel, alcohol heat. Sharp and refined. Some baked apple beneath. Mouth is similarly sharp and refined, with more smoke, peat, coastal notes, and something that I'm calling diesel fuel. Definitely a fruit element as well, seems most like baked apples with some apple pie spices perhaps. Not fruit forward though. Strong and pretty aggressive palate, finish is long and hot, pure and refined. Much chewier than the recent 10 y/o. Quite good actually!

Nose: Cherry pie, smoke and ash, raisins, warm apple and banana. Oak. Even with water very alcoholic but more exotic fruits. Body: Medium/heavy weight. Taste: Peaty apple pie, very warming. Sour and salt with a hint of pepper. Finish: Long. Peat and smoke, ending with tobacco. Verdict: Giving this dram enough time is extremely rewarding. I prefer the Corryvreckan though.

TASTING NOTE LMDW: This version of Ardbeg strong degree (54.2%) was voted "best single malt in the world of the year 2009" by Jim Murray, author of The Whisky Bible. Uigeadail is the name of the source that gives the Ardbeg distillery its precious water. Uigeadail is also a subtle blend of 10 and 13 year old barrels as well as some 1970s barrels. Color: gold. Nose: The undiluted nose is deep and rounded - the flavor of chocolate caramel and barley sugar goes well with dates and grapes, accentuated by the soft notes of sherry. Then comes the roundness of leather and linseed oil. With a touch of water, the sweetness gives way to the malted honeycomb, the flavor of currants emerging through the smoky smoothness of a pudding with fruit well cooked in the fire. Palate: Soft, mellow and oily, with a silky taste on the palate. The sweet flavor of the beginning, which reveals accents of fruit cake and molasses, gives way to the smoky flavor of a barbecue or roast honey with a slight touch of olive. Finale: A long finish again, combining softness and dryness, with notes evoking honey, molasses and a silky touch.
One of my favorite whisky, full of taste and peat. Strong and totally awesome.

This beast is extremely influenced by both smoke and sherry, so much so that if you rush into it, for the first time, it might seem off putting. I can very well understand that its too concentrated for some people, but I find it astonishingly complex and multilayered. With surprisingly ubiquitous old sherry notes (leather, pipe tobacco, prune, etc.). Delivering all this in the elegant Ardbeg style. Also a bang for your buck at this price point (50~60 eur). 2015.06.

I haven't tasted this for a while but it used to be a real bang for your buck. The vigorous peatsmoke of contemporary Ardbeg with a really great sherry-finishing. Not really a fan of finishings but in the even somewhat peated ones it works really well to me if the body is strong enough: thinking about Talisker DE etc. Well anyhow my favourite expression of the Ardbeg core-range.
Eye: Deep straw, sawtooth. Nose: Thick, sweet peat smoke. Creosote, and a distinct garlic note! Treacle, peach, minty majoram. Applepie. And, yes, a delightful whiff of cow manure. Like a good morning stroll through the meadows in fall. Mouth: Fresh entry, that turns heavy with heathery honey notes, chili, more treacle, salted caramel, and licorice (or sweetened korean ginseng). Rose water. There are some similarities with Laphroaigh Quarter Cask, but this one seems more layers and a tad sweeter.
Powerful, full-bodied cask strength-cracker with character, tolerates some water, but this is less fun. Of too young barrels nothing to notice, of sherry casks but not really (if any should be there), rightly one of the pillars of Ardbeg, with 55-60 € not cheap, but praising bearable.

[March, 2017] When Uigeadail was released back in 2003 I found this a great dram and scored it 91 points. It was simply delicious: very complex in its flavours and aromas and nicely balanced. So I bought several bottles... Almost 15 years later I tried a recent edition of Uigeadail and I am totally disappointed. This is not the Uigeadail I adored. This is simply weakish, unbalanced and hot stuff with a drying/bitter finish (I guess they use virgin oak in the actual recipe - back in 2003 they would have thrown you out of the distillery if you had proposed such a change, for sure). So, unfortunately I have to degrade my scoring from 91 points (2003) to not more than 82 points today.

It's really heavy, intense, spicy, nicely smoky, just delicious. A perfect autumn / winter whisky with a lot of power. The big brother of Ardbeg Ten, looks mature, although he has no age.
Rough Ardbeg, combined with the sweetness of sherry. This whisky is just good and interesting. Corywreckan is definitely a bit more delicate, 10yo is rougher. A long, churning reverberation, as is customary with Ardbeg.

Still a consistent gem in the Ardbeg lineup. Always on my shelf. Typically I prefer my peated bottles to be ex bourbon aged, but the Uggie is the one exception to the rule. Perhaps it’s because Ardbeg’s strong distillate character refuses to be drowned out by sherry casks here.

C: Amber. N: The intense and thick smoke is mixted with the smell of wet ground, peat and cut leather; the mezacl note surprised us and leaves the next step to alimentary notes, olive oil, smoked cheese, chestnuts and Hungarian salami. In the last time the touch of the ex sherry barrels is clear. P: Suddenly transported into an armonic vortex of flavors, olive oil, wild fennel, smoked cheese, chestnuts, and juniper comes out, joined with the mezcal. Then a groundy peat that smees to be like an huge container for all of these flavors above. The substance is viscous. F: Long enough, memories of sherry, brine, smoked cheese and chestnuts. It smokes in the nose, but not too strong, rather mild. Slight sweetness rises, sherry notes, raisins, grape chocolate. Everything still quite harmless. A first little sip betrays then the tiger in sheep's clothing. Violent onset, the 54% have it noticeable, the smoke unfolds, changes in taste in the throat, becomes dry, very nice feeling. Notes of marzipan are added, very phenolic, sweet aftertaste. A drop of water tames the tiger a bit, but not very much. Smoke lingers for a long time, slight burning in the throat. Conclusion: huge malt that you either hate or love!
Aroma: smoked ham, some ashes, then sweet, fruity sherry, caramel, later coffee and tobacco Taste: intense, malt, dark chocolate, ash, oak Finish: long, cold campfire, ashes, coffee

The nose is a perfect balance of peat, sherry, smoke, and iodine. You can smell the soot from a wood fire in the countryside; you can almost hear the logs crackling. There's something honeyed too, salty, slightly tart—perhaps a hint of candied lemon? The dried fruit notes of the sherry bring everything together in an absolutely bewitching way. On the palate, the sherry mingles with licorice, bark, and salted caramel, and it's as if the peat rises, exploding in a very long, oily, peppery finish. The salted caramel lingers on the tongue for a long time. Then it evolves, leaving a more peaty, smoky shadow on the palate, with hints of cola. It's a masterpiece, at an extremely charitable price. A perfect marriage of a fierce peat and a very expressive sherry. https://ilikesky2020.blogspot.com/2020/06/ardbeg-uigeadail.html

Most of today's NAS whiskies I wouldn't touch with a barge pole, but this old classic belongs to the few notable exceptions. The nose of Ardbeg Uigeadail takes you straight to the windswept shores of Islay, featuring seashells, brine and iodine. Peat smoke, tobacco and sweet bacon emerge, followed by band-aid, black olives and aniseed. Warming and spicy at first, the taste is intensely phenolic and earthy with notes of walnuts, honey and bitter oak. Ashy peatiness, burned toast and salty licorice mark the long finish. I love this reference. But the lack of consistency is disappointing. I currently have two bottles leaving the factory 1 month apart (05/21 and 06/21). That of June is much darker and the influence of sherry much more pronounced. It's still an excellent whisky but it's a shame that the quality varies so much
S 9 A salty Ardbeg. Much like a dram you'd dream to have when grilling steak on the seashore at a full moon night. It's however quite young & spicy which distracted the experience a bit. N 26 Moderately peated. Earthy. Old furniture. Heavy coastal influence (Kelp, sea salt). Meaty. Faintly fruity behind. P 27 Very salty (salted caramel, seaweed, etc). Peat doesn't hesitate for even a second to unveil its power. Oak then comes through with chargrill meat to continue. Chili & peppery spices underlying yet not aggressive. Ended with a touch of grassy. F 25 Mid-Long, dry finish. Smoky, ashy, and spicy (perhaps first-fill/re-charred oak?). Mild sweetness to wrap up.

For me, simply too amped up and engineered. All dials are cranked to 11 and the sense of balance and dignity is lost. It's like over seasoned food that wows on the first bite and then becomes tiresome. In the category of readily available Islays I would happily take Port Charlotte 10, Lagavulin 16, or Ardbeg 10 over this please. (Review is for bottle circa ~2018)
The sherry influence is only noticeable when you let it stand for a moment.

To be honest, setting aside the hype surrounding this whisky, I found it disappointing. I don't know if it was a bad batch I got, but comparing the color of the liquid in my bottle to that of other older batches, mine is much lighter, indicating a very slight influence of wine barrels compared to previous batches. Besides the fact that it's extremely aggressive on the palate, even reminding me of a Lamas Nimbum Robustos, despite all that, it's not a bad whisky; I just had different expectations considering the reviews I'd read about it online.

better than the 2007er, because much more balanced
Ardbeg 'Uigeadail' (54.2%, OB, +/-2013) No I haven't got any laser codes or whatnot, but this one is recent for sure. The latest version I've tried was bottled circa 2010 and I loved it (WF 92). Colour: gold. Nose: it's not complicated, and I guess there's less super-old Ardbeg than in earlier batches anyway, but balance was found, with some straight smoke (exhaust) and then a combo of vanilla fudge, custard and lemon curd. A little wet paint as well, some leather and just a little tobacco. Maybe it's narrower than the first Uigeadails but so far, so good. And I enjoy these black olives that come out after ten minutes. With water: swims perfectly. Putty, almonds, seashells... Mouth (neat): it's perfect. Simple, but perfect. Impressive mouth feel. Lemon zests, bitter herbs, tar, brine and liquorice. It's certainly less rich and opulent than the first Uigeadails from ten years ago, but I'm not sure it's lost anything. I enjoy this more chiselled style. With water: smoother, with some orange blossom honey, but the tarry and liquoricy side remains big. Also kumquats and bergamots. Finish: long, with even more tar and smoke. Comments: by far my favourite current/recent official Ardbeg. I think the styles change a bit, but quality remains evenly high, if I may say so. SGP:458 - 92 points. And now, let's unleash the old beasts! whiskyfun.com
A delightfully balanced peaty whisky. A far more creamy and refined offering over the standard 10 year old.
This one is a really good whisky and always a good buy. It's very special, that this heavily peated whisky is often liked by persons who don't like peated whiskies in general. The typical Ardbeg-combination of smoke and sweetness seems to be magic. On the other hand this young whisky stays superficial on the palate and keeping all the enthusiastic tasting notes of other maltheads in mind, I have to admit that this one first was a disappointment for me. So I had to put all the influence from other notes away. My final result then is that this one is a really good whisky, very well composed, it brings on a very good value for the money but in my eyes it is also heavily overrated thanks to the Ardbeg hysteria. I give it well earned 85 points.

Smell of iodine and oak. Tastes sweet for such a strongly peppered Scotch. Dry in the aftertaste. What is this amazing whisky. Sage and mint fight for priority, bravely fighting the smoke, ash and peat that are the superficial aromas - but the draft is sublime. Star anise and seaweed, storm and foam heads, oysters and marram grass - I still get poetic if I don't look out. Apple and cherry are in the sweet spectrum. Mint, as said. The aftertaste is a rock coil at low tide; full of small surprises, clear and fresh, despite the salt. Incredible whisky.

The name UIGEADAIL refers to the nearby lake of the same name from which the distillery draws its water ("Uigeadail" - Gaelic for "Dark and mysterious place"). In 1974, Ardbeg began sourcing peated malt from a nearby malthouse located in the iconic village of Port Ellen. Made from distillates from a combination of bourbon and sherry casks. Aging the liquor by the sea for at least 3 years ensures salty and iodine notes. Whisky of the Year in Jim Murray's famous Whisky bible (2009). Also, the Ardbeg Committee decided by 120,000 votes that Ardbeg Uigedail is their favorite whisky among all distillers

Those who are not completely averse to the smoke and do not yet know this malt, lack an essential experience in the world of whisky. Here is the price / enjoyment absolutely. A great malt that I always have at home and always open. No matter how many much more expensive and supposedly high-quality malts I try, I always come back on relaxed evenings on this back and I'm glad that the good is not always exorbitantly expensive and rare. To relativize something: My very positive rating is directly related to the very attractive price. You get for MUCH more money MUCH better Ardbeg whiskys - but in this price range, the Uigeadail, for me, is virtually unrivaled.
On the nose I get peat, sweaty socks and something cheesy, I got the same with the 24 year 1977, its not the peat that is the issue. With time it does improve in the glass and gets a little sweeter. With water, I just get peat and nothing else really. I find it one dimensional and boring profile wise. I just do not see what drives people to be gushing about this distillery, another over rated Ardbeg.

with water: makes the peat more cardboard-y (in a good way), ups the sweetness but downs the oiliness, gives out preserved plum/prunes at the back note: take a good, elegant whisky (like Talisker/Glenfarclas) as a base, add loads of peat, conjure up some magical spell to make them marry superbly… and you get this. wonderful base flavors that still stand out and not drowned in peat/smoke, (elegant floral) mix that with elegant and flavorful peat (i never thought there was such a thing before this since peat was, after all, great enough as it is… i had no clue it could be better). I could go on and on about how GREAT this whisky is… but a taste is worth a thousand words… Sláinte…

Strong & Sturdy Ah, the Ardbeg with the almost unpronouncable name (‘oogedaal’), which means as much as ‘dark, mysterious place’. I tried versions from 2003 and 2009 and my whisky pal Pat just offered me a sample of 2015, which I gladly accept as it is one of my favorites from the Ardbeg core range (only the Corryvreckan does better in my book). Grand nose on sweet elements from the sherry casks. Think banana and raisins, followed closely by furniture polish, herring on the barbecue and chunks of sea salt. Nuts! Mildly burnt chestnuts. The crust of old Gouda cheese. Sweet peat. Stockfish. Roast beef. Complex and better than I remembered. Perfect mouthfeel, sweet and sour on smoked bacon with loads of ashes and citrusy elements. Liquorice, smoked fish, chili pepper, ginger, tar. Orange marmalade in the background. Grand. Strong. Sturdy. The finish is very long, sweet and salty at the same time. A little bit schizophrenic towards the end, but what a feast. If you ever taste a lesser Ardbeg (plenty of choices with the recent NAS-bottlings in recent years), pour yourself a dram of this Uigedail and your confidence will be restored. Around 60 EUR. Extremely interesting; Immediately I smoke smoke and a strong, maritime iodine note. Directly behind, however, is a decent sherry note, which is carried by sweet vanilla. From time to time, sparkling wine fruits sparkle through, but the tenor is rather sweet for my senses. It resonates a nice, leathery barrel note and in the Blenders glass I also have a sweet malt note. After a certain time in the glass, I mean behind the tobacco to recognize a nice shade of herbs |

Smoke; Campfire; spicy; spicy (pepper); Sherry (now shows a nice cinnamon seasoning); The leathery barrel-note of the Nosing I have the same taste. Honey sweet; again some herbs; a touch of citrus too and a maritime-salty iodine note in the smoke. All in all well matched |

Smoke; Sherry, this time getting a little drier (it adds a light, sourish fruit note); The smoke becomes extinguished fire, which still smokes and glows. In between, again the change of fruit, sweet, sour and wood. |
Fresh floral notes with moderate peat on the nose and palate. Peat is not aggressive but well-balanced with the elegant floral notes in the back. Finish is warm and has lots of smoke.
A great combination of sherry and peat in a young wild whisky. I like its strenght (54.2 %). It should be slightly cheaper though. For an evening with a group of friends, I would rather grab Lagavulin 16. That one is easier to drink and you dont have to think about it to enjoy it. Uigeadail is great, if you add some water to it and enjoy it slowly. You cant expect that on a barbecue trip with some friends.
I would have liked this whisky higher as I am a real ardbeg fan. But unfortunately...

Perhaps it is good that this is a blend, and not pure sherry casks. The fortress I liked: 48% ABV 23 22 21 21
This is good whisky. Very weighty, intense, and balanced. The peat is Omni present but not overpowering, and the sherry influence is really beautifully integrated. It’s not as in-your-face as other, newer, peat/sherry combos and this is a great thing. It does seem young, and it’s not exactly the type that you’ll reach back for another dram too quickly. It makes me wonder if the first batches really are demonstrably better?

Everybody else likes it or loves it. I like some peated whiskies and I like some peat + sherry whiskies. I was expecting to like this. Tried 5 times. Early in the life of the bottle and off and on over the next 9ish months. The peat here has to much of a funky iodine note that doesn't work for me. I'd sooner have any other peated whisky that I've tried.

This one lost something over the years. The peat is dominating, but it lost so much of the sherry influence! Just hints of aome sweetness, of aome citrus, a lot of oak, the finish is rather bitter and nothing much left after a while. Still good whisky though but ...

He has his reputation right! I'm missing the baseline scores to put it into relation to older batches (this is a 2017), but what I've got here in the jar is nothing short of a massive, fruity Sherry-Islay smoker with addictive potential, you've got to try that to have!
I started to get into whisky just a few months ago. Have tasted about 20 different bottles, so not a true scholar yet, but I really thoroughly the Uigeadail and its the best whisky I've tasted so far by quite some distance. 95 for me.

This is surprisingly good for the price, probably the best value Islay malt I have tried so far! Very strong Oloroso sherry influence here. It's married perfectly with the baseline Ardbeg character, which I don't find to be exciting enough on its own. This has everything it says on the bottle (treacle, bacon, bonfires) and more, although the finish is quite short. The 54 ABV is not cask strength and is therefore perfectly sippable neat. A bit of water doesn't hurt either. The malt holds and develops well in the glass and bottle after opening. This is a must buy for fans of sherried peat. Also totally blows away the Laphroaig PX cask!

A lot of smoke, beautiful sherry sweetness, the impression of fresh barrels, great mixture of bourbon and sherry cask storage, seems to be young, but is very pleasant and gives the malt "strength", clear oak, very nice burners, the nose is great, Flammlachs !, heavy onset, campfire, ashes, vinous sweetness, vanilla, oak, caramel, some licorice and Zimz, mineral, tingle, sea air, bitterness of walnut or Brazil nut, despite the strong flavors is very balanced! Outstanding!

Ardbeg, who is fierce in nature, has a stronger smoky atmosphere than TEN, and the dark red temperament of Wuyi rock tea and brown sugar, just like his name "Dark and Mysterious Land".
Color: dark gold Aroma: wine, fruit, light smoke, sleepers, paint, varnish Taste: fresh fruit mixed with fermented, pepper, smoked fish Finish: repeats the taste, warming ... long lasting ... pepper appears Conclusion: good + malt, a little wine tones, a little fruit, smoked meats, plus a light smoke in the background, and all this, like the frame is supported by the barrel fortress.
The hype about this release is fully deserves. It adds to the typical peat and smoky feeling of Ardbeg a pronounced wood taste, yet rounded by cherry. Very powerful but also very balanced no alcohol edges. Enjoyable long finish. Personal note: it has become my football celebration dram :D
Ardbeg Uigeadail Category: Single Malt Manufacturer and bottler: Ardbeg Distillery (LVMH) Region: Islay Fortress: 54.2% Volume: 700 ml Bottling date: 06.12.2020 Barrel type: Bourbon / Sherry Casks Min. age: no indication Filtering: no Dye: none Nose. An amazing, intriguing combination of sweet aromas (raisins, figs, dried apricots, blueberry-currant jam, baked banana and chestnuts, chocolate, melted toffee, vanilla) hidden behind a “veil” of smoke, soot, soot, machine oil, rubber and shoe polish, strong tones brewed coffee and smoked meat. The theme of the surrounding nature is also reflected in the aromatics of the drink. It pleases us with motifs of sea water, pine needles and oil, pine nuts, rowan berries. The taste is mostly sweet with a powerful burnt bitterness and appropriate sourness, full-bodied and "friendly" enough for an experienced whisky drinker, if drunk in small sips, despite a solid strength. The taste begins with chocolate-toffee, vanilla sweetness, then turns into rowan sourness. Then comes the "heavy artillery" of coals, pepper, coffee grounds, tobacco nuances. Against its background, the theme of dried fruits, berry jam develops. The viscosity of nuts and the taste of smoked ham completes everything. Aftertaste. Long. Soot, iodine, pine cones, raisins. Summary. Aging in sherry casks perfectly suits Ardbeg spirits, ennobling and embellishing the powerful, but rather clumsy, emphatically peaty, “bonfire” distillery style. A good balance on all fronts, not amazing, but memorable and recognized by many (including me) as the most successful regular Ardbeg release. Rating: 87 out of 100.

Just for reference, for mine as much as anyone else, the Corryvreckan is the better of the two, in terms of quality, presentation and taste. For me the Corryvreckan is cleaner, purer, has a more interesting and satisfying flavour profile, with concentrated peat and sweetness. This Uigeadail is a crowd-pleaser with peat and sherry which people seem to love but for me it comes over as muddy and unfocussed and perhaps, not quite hitting the high standards of age and quality as before. For me the whole comes over only slightly better than a sherried Bowmore and I am haunted by the words 'smoky apple juice' which describes the sickly and cloying flavour profile of the Bowmore 15 and 18, but this is more like 'smoky coca-cola' and again, somewhat cloying, muddy and lacking 'purity' of flavour. When compared to the purity of the Coryvreckan, which is infinite raw peat and delicious sweetness and seems to have a decent age to it, this seems to come off as the loser. Not as smooth and easy drinking as the Corry, like I said, this is muddy, come over at times as both flat, cloying, and too spirity at the same time. It is good of course, but I am just finding its weaknesses....and the Corry is better for the money, but then that's about all you can get better at this price. I wouldn't buy it again.... I even preferred the Smoky quarter cask Benriach to be honest, all three of which I have had within a two week time frame. It had a creamy profile and again, a certain purity and peaty cleanness, which this just lacks. The modern Uigi is candied, coca-cola....which I just don't want in my drink. Seems very young. Significantly younger and hotter than the Corryvreckan which is frankly of much higher quality on all fronts. Even with two ice cubes it is still hot, and the sherry seems imposed on the whisky rather than harmonious. It is little better than a bog standard Bowmore 15 or 18 these days. I do not feel the quality of distillate is very high either.

Strong whisky with mellow aromas, well-balanced and simply wonderful for the price. I expected more sherry to be honest, but the sweet vanilla notes make up for it. Despite being a cask-strength whisky, this is no Corryvreckan, make no mistake. If you’re looking for a peat monster, you’ll be better off going for the latter one. There is nothing to say, it is plump and full. It is said that the flavor of Shirley before 2010 will be richer. I feel that it is more oily than the new one, and it has the feeling of old wine.
I just buy a bottle. The quality has been almost the same over the years. I have tasted whiskies over 20 years. I can't imagine better whisky than this. It´s like a tar caramel in my mouth melting to fruity long aftertaste.
https://whiskylovingpianist.wordpress.com/2022/10/17/feis-ile-2022-ardbeg/ The early Uigeadail’s were made up using a variety of stock that included “classic” bourbon cask reserves from the 1970s and standard 10yo juice. Let’s not forget too that Ardbeg 10yo was only launched in 2000. N: Shut the back door, this is really good. It seems I may have simply neglected/forgotten about the Uige. Sweet leather, sweet vegetal, white [Vienetta] ice cream [without the chocolate], and so very salty as if to cancel itself out [if that makes sense]. T: It’s not as millimetric or layered in comparison to the 10yo, but what fun it delivers, a fabulous soup of bourbon & oloroso casks with Ardbeg’s particular peatiness & sweetness that we shall see in the new make – yes, Ardbeg’s new make is coming up! F: Finishing on soft-sweetly vegetal ash, this is all you could want from single malt on a sunny Saturday afternoon on Islay. C: What era of Uegeladil is it, I ask. “Current”, says Bill, who tells me he will reject batches but this one he regards as “great”. I must buy a bottle asap. Not sure why I stopped buying and drinking it? it was always a favourite, a staple.
