My first try at the 10yr, and I regret not trying them sooner. This is so fruity and balanced, the peat never rears up, it’s very much worth trying for the few $ more than the regular series.

Classic Octomore, changes its profile literally every 3-5 minutes, revealing and closing new shades, rubber, sun-smoked plum, barnyard, leather, red berries rowan and viburnum, rye bread, the taste is expressive and restrained at the same time, ash, rough and sweet peat, railroad ties, Vishnevsky ointment, iodine, seaweed, the finish is incredibly long and sweet, very expressive, the tens are always more rounded, nothing extra sticks out, everything is very balanced, an excellent malt!

Notes from a blind tasting. Post Announcement: It proves once again that the Octomores are almost intangible to me. Smoke and pleasant sweetness from the wine casks make for a good whisky, but far from a top rating. Water helps and makes bottling accessible.

CHARACTER – A dram of depth and worth taking some time to get to know. Greater than the sum of its parts and the parts that combine to make it have an individual story of their own. AROMA – There is a richness, chocolate, tobacco, bonfire smoke, leather. Vanilla custard, blueberry dry straw and pear drops. TASTE – Warming, spicy – mulled wine. Leather and tobacco, malt sugar, icing sugar. All wrapped in earthy peaty smoke. Dry on the palate. FINISH – Oak driven, coconut, tobacco, vanilla, then smoke. In balance the time in the cask has calmed the smoke, both through the phenols lowering naturally over time and the influence of the oak becoming greater. COLOUR – Tawny. Wow, her nose is already very complex: sweet, creamy, vanilla, slightly mineral, slightly fruity of blueberries and blackberries, slightly maritime and there should still be smoke somewhere xD In the mouth it is intense and sparkling without becoming alcoholic and transports light fruit notes and mineral spiciness. The finish swings back and forth between sweet fruit notes and coffee spice and is slightly reminiscent of a cognac. Finally, some mineral-dry smoke fades away. Length: 7/10 Grandiose, complex Islay representative that surprises with its softness and balance in the paper form. Note 1

This Octomore is fun! He is complex and comes with a good portion of various sweet flavors around the corner. The 10 years put the whole thing on the crown. Very clear recommendation from my side. A similarity to the OBA Concept exists. Colour: Dark Earl Gray with a sting that goes reddish. Nose: Very sweet, stuffy, concentrated Octomore smoke, behind it are directly blueberry pancakes, which then transform into waffles with hot cherries. Some salt and shoe polish. The alcohol is, as always with Bruichladdich, beautifully integrated. After 15 minutes, the oak comes to light. The nose is already a lot of fun, there is definitely more to discover here. Taste: Powerful, a flavor explosion in the mouth. Nevertheless, to drink very well undiluted. On the tongue finally show the 10 years of maturation. First, one wonders about the lack of sweetness, but after a few seconds, at the latest when swallowing, the wood gives way to the sweet cargo. Finish: Dark berries, salt, licorice. Then it gets drier and slower. Far later you get something like menthol and tobacco. The finish is of course long and gives you a long time pleasure.

I love a dram that takes you places, and this Octomore certainly did. The aroma was rich and occasionally quite pungent, with burning wood and tobacco generally laying beneath top notes of sweet fruits and chocolate. The palate was much the same, though the flavors appeared locked in combat until a few drops of water separated them. While I enjoyed the richness at cask strength, I thought with water the flavor profile became more coherent and structured. yep! there it is. full of peat, smoked bacon, salty, oily, shortly after the sweet citruslike vanilla kicks in, well balanced, I would say the 10 years are no harm to this octomore, just as powerful as it should be. finish is just pure fun. Wonderful dram

A whisky that has polarized, but has established itself on the market and has definitely found its lovers. For me personally, they are extreme, exciting and charged with flavors. Unfortunately so much so that a DIfferierung often difficult. Which generally speaks against a rating of over 90 points.

Tasted at the Utrecht Whisky Tasting Festival, so this review is based on a single glass. This was quite a special dram for me, I like it a lot because of its full body and great texture. A big beast, but once won over it will stay loyal to you for a lifetime!

A superb balance between the American oak casks, which impart light white fruits—mirabelle plums, greengages, and not-at-all-sweet vanilla—and the port casks, with their red fruits, vinous character, pomegranate, blackcurrant, tannins, heather, undergrowth, humus, lemon zest, smoke, exotic fruits, lychees, iodine, sea foam, sea salt, and damp sand. I spent a good half hour smelling the glass. A very complex palate, torn between peat and an intense fruity and foresty character. A deep and seemingly endless finish of black earth, charcoal, and Muscat grapes. The best 10y Octomore so far IMO, the cognac part gives very good sweetness, I think it is a fantastic bottling. Price is high a usual, but that's a known fact for octomore buyers.

Bright gold. Thin slowish legs. Heap of smoldering coal And licorice. Big sam bucca hit. Lemon zest. Sea salt and vinegar. Dash of pepper. After a while the BBQ meats come out. Soft entry then you get the slap of peaty tar and spice on the tongue. Lemon and salt quite abit of the virgin oak coming through. Quite abit of oak. Cured meats. Not hot at all. Dosnt need water. Good finish. Dry ash and lemons. Heaps of leather and tobacco. Quite interesting and balanced. This was only a neck pour I believe. Might need to grab one.

Нос 90 The nose is great! Great sweet Octomore notes as you know them. You could smell for hours on the glass.
Вкус 88 The initial is great and after the dram has spread on the tongue, it immediately dries and redistributes to the palate. Unfortunately, the Virgin Oaks are getting a bit dominant and the sweetness is being replaced by them.

Нос 91 Complex. I smell sweetness with the smoke. Quite fruity
Вкус 93 And there it is.... Nostalgia hits me. What a gorgeous dram. Unmistakably Octomore. Very rich, smoky, spicy, yet has a side that offers berried fruit. Quite surprisingly gentle taste of peat (was expecting an explosion), I really appreciate this balance.
Финиш 92 Dry, oaky, quite salty, long, extremely satisfying. I then sank into my couch :)

An intense and balance Octomore. Earthy peat, spiced oak, vanilla, tobacco, chocolate. Long and dry finish with charred wood.

Tasted in a series of 5 Octomores: 09.1 (82 pts.), 09.2 (83), 09.3 (82), 10yo 3rd Limited Release (84), and Futures (82). Quoting that recipe above: "-> Full-Term Maturation in 1st-Fill Port Pipes 37%, -> 1st-Fill Cognac barrels 31%, -> 2nd-Fill Ex-American Whisky Barrels 20%, -> 3 years in 1st-fill Ex-American barrels + 2 years in Virgin-Oak + 6 years in Ex-American whisky barrels 12%" Should this be classified as a cocktail rather than a single malt whisky?

Absolutely gorgeous. Classic Octomore, with those big savoury and medicinal smoke notes, balanced by the rich fruit sweetness. It’s maybe the more complex of the two as well. The port and cognac casks give it this incredibly rich sweetness. There’s a fruit syrup note on the palate that’s just incredible. Stellar stuff. Nose: Savoury and sweet. Salted-egg-flavour seaweed rice crackers, maple-glazed salmon, bandages, and iodine. Sweet barley, buttered sourdough toast, toffee, coffee chocolate truffles, candied citrus peel, and roasted red peppers. The red fruit comes out after a little bit, with some blood orange, raspberry yogurt, and strawberry ice cream. Some creamy tropical fruit joins after some more nosing. Smoked salt, rock quarry, and road tar. Palate: Medium body. Baked apples, tart orange, fragrant cedar, browned butter, and woody smoke on the arrival. Something like a hard wine-soaked cheese. A blast of sweet tangerine, peach, and dark chocolate on the development, with fruit cocktail, plums, honey, demerara sugar, and nutmeg. Soot, dunnage warehouse, and pepper steak. Fruit chutney and salami to go with the cheese. Finish: Sweet and syrupy. More salmon, tidal flats, and black pepper. Grilled citrus, peach nectar, lychee, dark chocolate, orange pekoe, craft cola, sugar cookies, and charred marshmallows.
