A combination of Shirley and Kilkerran. Quite unique. Not sweet at all.

Very different whisky from the old buttling , taste much more of new make, smell much more of new make, not as much sherry as old one, it is worth 48 pounds but not more :( Compared to the old one it is much much younger whisky
After the recent comments I was afraid to try let's see... I tried it alone first / No head to head with the infamous 2019. Nose: Yes there is a sulfur note but it's not a sulphur bomb... a lot of smoke with time and water the sulphur settles and it turns into a great Campbeltown rabbit hole note (funky, Landluft) ;) besides that old school sherry flavour roasted nuts, spices a sweetness some fruits orange, maybe red fruits to discover...with water soapy notes.. M: Nice mouthfeel(some water added today)...turns more 'coastal' still peat , sweetness ( caramel), more oranges, red fruits (cherries..Johannisbeeren) saltiness (....), nuts, almonds, some burnt matches..after eight choclate with sweet mint... F: Sweet, interesting oak taste (they say it's Sandelholz I have to check my eau de toilette), some pepper, Landluft... cold ash..dust(medium to long)...sweet mint Not as accessable as it's predecessor but much more Campbeltown/ Springbank CS batch 15 I think pops up in memory.. it's very demanding not an 'every day dram'. If you liked the work in progress sherry s that's what you can compare it to. Sure this will develop in the bottle. So rates may go up. I hope this batch helps of keeping the sherry bomb folks a bit away from kk ( the 2019 was just took pleasant)so prices will get back to normal..maybe another bourbon cask next year ;) / up to 70 EUR a no brainer. Definitely overpriced in Germany today.m Bought a bundle so it was ok. I go up after another tasting..this is Campbeltown. Up 1pt to 90 I 2024// takes bottle air superb it added after eight choclate:))

I am pleasantly surprised! At first I thought this bottling probably couldn't compete with the last Sherry Kilkerran 8Y bombshell. But it's doing very well and a bargain at the issue price. The fragrant, rubbery, dirty sulphurous nose turns into a play of aromas of cinnamon, maple syrup, nutty funky sherry with a little tobacco smoke after a few minutes. Very nicely integrated. On the palate, the whole thing unfolds from the front, as in the nose. From a little dirt to spices and the alcohol shows up with an impulse and ends with a little tingling. The finish looks a bit short at the beginning, but then the pleasant sherry sweetness sets in with a subtle dryness and ends for a long time. If you liked the first 8Y Sherry Kilkerran and you can enjoy a little dirt and sulfur, you will also enjoy this bottling!
Uhh already quite exhausting without water, definitely dirtier and rougher this year's CS bottling is not the caliber of the last. Water helps here and makes the malt rounder, but still not a high-flyer.

Totally different from its predecessor. This one is much more on the buttery and gamey side, which is not really good news to me. I like to have my butter on warm toast, not so much in whisky. But this aroma is often the result of Mitchell stuff and sherry. Other than that I´m getting smoke, ashes, embrocations and linseed oil. Sour, rotting stone fruit, rotting leaves and damp earth. |

I really want to find this a winner, I am a fan of Springbank and Longrow. Since this one is made by the same team I was hoping for a similar profile. But unfortunately. I find it a bit harsh, I miss fruit and the smoke is a bit too dominant for me. That doesn't make it a bad whisky, I just expected (and hoped) more from it
Very dirty. Didn't like at all. Kilkerran usually doing better then this.
Smells: Slightly irritating, sweet sherry cask smell, creamy red preserved fruit, gentle sweetness without too much burrs and sulfur smell, some ebony wood texture is not obvious, except for the irritation, everything else is gentle 26.5/30 Taste: The entrance is dark chocolate, dark preserved fruit, sherry barrel flavor. It is obviously dry and slightly sweet with some sulfur smell. It is not obvious and does not interfere too much. Sugar-free cough syrup, herbal boiled Chinese medicine and the smell are more obvious. There is some contrast in the middle. Relatively restrained sweetness 26.2/30 Aftertaste: After the bitterness of herbal dark chocolate, mint spices dissipates, the sweetness of dark preserved fruits and licorice lasts for a long time 26.3/30

Just opened the 2nd bottle. 1st on the nose is the familiar Springbank profile followed with ripe red fruits , BBQ and caramel, also some faint smokiness coming through. On the palate, again Springbank profile with a spicy punch with a whiff zesty red berries followed with dark red fruity notes. Finish is long zesty Sprinbank style ,burnt matches with maritime feel to it. I love this.

IMO, sulfur is like peat. When you nail it down, it will convey a new layer to the already complex distillate, and in particular, it will add an explosive mouthfeel that i absolutely adore. I think this bottle need some time to settle itself with the sulfur as well. Give it a week or two, it will mellow itself.

Even as a freshly poured Dram it delivers a nice musty, musty note, which initially disguises itself as a damp cellar with musty wooden shelves and fermented wake-up fruit, but then quickly comes out of cover and presses on the sulfur tube. At first you think: Shit! It's probably only for the bin if you could have used the bills to light the fireplace. But no, time works wonders, as does oxygen: after standing still for some time, it has let off steam in terms of sulfur and the initial disappointment turns out to be a storm in the whisky glass. So now: raisins, dried figs and dates, fermented grapes, chocolate with a rum-grape-nut flavor. Espresso beans, nice flavoring of rosemary and lovage. |

Creamy start, pleasant and not biting despite proper ABV. Dry, directly with raisins and grapes (no longer fermented here). As if the standing time had also had an effect on the taste, it hardly shows any sulfur on the tongue. If I hadn't already had it in my nose, I would certainly not have noticed it here on the palate. Caramel candy, sugar beet syrup, malt. A little marzipan and peppered chocolate. A touch of rose petals. |

нос 87 · вкус 88 · финиш 87
One of the now massively hyped and therefore rarely available at a reasonable price cask strengths from Kilkerran from the sherry cask. The whisky has a rich, dark amber hue due to the 1st fill cask. However, it is not as dark as the modern sherry bombs made from casks with dried sherry concentrate. Appropriate color for age, that's the way it's meant to be. Of course, the whisky is uncolored and not chill-filtered. www.glen-efze.de
Bad tastes that are worse than Batch 4 and unique to strong burned 1st fill sherry are overdone
So yeah, there's smoke. I'll just say that now. Otherwise, I would conclude that it is a wet finish, since the sherry notes are clear and present, but others are too. Overall, it has an incredibly good balance and is easy to drink. Still varied and a bit dirty, I like it quite a lot. Notes from a blind tasting. Extremely interesting, I've never had this rotten fruit / baby bump notes in a Kilkerran. Wet finish was nothing, it was more the power of the new make that could stand up to the sherry. Interestingly, unlike others, I couldn't find any sulfur and the smoke was well hidden.

Very intense right after pouring, sherry fruit, caramel, light notes of fermentation, some cardboard and dark honey. That's quite a crowd. After a few moments, a strong butterscotch note comes to the fore, accompanied by strong mineral touches. Mealy apples can also be found. After a while, cake batter, fresh yellow fruit and yellow fruit compote are added. Heat first teases out the fermentation notes again, sour, falling fruit, then becomes mineral again, the alcohol begins to tickle and suddenly it becomes flat. When he regains consciousness, there are yellow fruits, disinfectant and traces of a cable fire at the higher temperature level, smoke?!? And if so, then not even that little, where had he been hiding until now? After the first sip has run over the palate, I am pretty sure that smoke is also involved in the nose. |
| Вкус |
89 |
It starts off cautiously in the mouth before it suddenly erupts, dark, malty caramel, peat sweetness (?), it also has a few fruit aromas. I'm pretty sure with enough time and quantity in the glass there are many more flavors to be found here. The alcohol starts discreetly, stays clean, but has a lot of power. In the second sip it starts out rather fruity with a lot of fruit acid, there are also slightly tart tones before the sweetness comes forward, but much more reserved than before. The second sip still has a lot of vapor. |
| Финиш |
87 |
The finish of the aromas is rather short, again I'm not 100% sure about the smoke, but I think it's ash that's left at the end. Overall it is therefore medium to long, mainly a simple fading, which is not meant to be derogatory. In the second sip then more intense and longer. In any case, it warms up nicely. |

Batch 5 of the 8-year-old cask strength and we have another winner on our hands. Very intense, heavy coastal spirit with a wonderfully integrated Oloroso influence. Compared to the re-charred Oloroso batch 4, I find this has slightly less wood influence and a touch more coastal character to it. Value (£48) : 8/10
Much more briny, more Campbelltown than 2019 edition (which is a good point, to me). Last edition was an ultimate full-bodied sherry bomb. This edition remains a sherry bomb but alcohol seems to be a bit less integrated and viscosity is lower (here is the difference between re-charred cask and first fill cask ?). Oxidation helps this whisky... but it's often the case, especially with Campbelltown distilleries. A very good whisky with a dirty profile. Especially at 70 euros. 2019 edition was better. No doubt about it. But 2019 edition would have been ultra top-tier with 2021 edition's briny notes.
Despite its relatively young age, a pretty nice whisky. The influence of the sherry cask fits nicely with the slightly smoky character of the Kilkerran.

A colleague from the base writes cleverly: "Sulfur is not the end of the world" He's right there, only the whole thing shouldn't be too violent. I actually like playing around with the ignition platelets and robber pistols, just not in almost all areas of the assessment. So I have to deduct a lot from the A grade, because this is borderline on a missing grade. I suspect these barrels were added on purpose to overrule the youth. Depending on the circumstances, I will describe this dram neutrally. Conclusion in advance: "It's not mine" The PLV is also underground "Sorry folks.
Having a very intense "off" note on this one. Did not pay a retarded price on this and got a sample plus bottle at a local dealer... so a high price is neither turning me off (nor shifting my rating up, as it should be good if it was expensive). So... the... tasting condeses together to... burnt, sweaty, rubber boots... and that really struck me unprepared. Nose: okay, neat, but that sweaty rubber Mouth: OH GOD NOW THEY ARE ON FIRE Finish: Oloroso notes remain after the rubber is gone (so thats neat). Brings quite alot to the table, but the strange notes really puts me off (I am quite tolerant to sulfur, so funny to have THAT)
Poorly understood, had a cold, but seemed easier than early, 2019 seems to test)

The batch I have tasted is flawed by a dominant sulphuric nose and taste.
Kilkerran 8 year old, cask strength and is fully matured in oloroso. Bottled at 56.9% ABV this whisky is a BIG HITTER. A predecessor to the 2019 cask strength oloroso and somewhat of a decisive whisky between reviewers and drinkers alike. Oh it's a biggie! The RRP was around about £45 to £50 and some shops were ridiculously charging £60. It is non chill filtered and has no added colouring. Nose: So when I first opened this my first dram had way too much sulphur very eggy very sulphuric very off-putting and once I got maybe two to three drams in, it opened up a lot more and that sulphuric-ness went away however straight away on the nose I'm definitely getting sulphur it's not overly eggy it's not horrible it's just a little sulphury. There's definitely spent matches, that chemical reaction that you get when you strike a match, that smell. I'm stealing this scent off my my girlfriend so I asked her to smell it when I was getting the egg and her nose must not be very accustomed to sulphur or maybe just able to see past it but she got toffee fudge doughnut and there is, there's a sweetness there, a caramel, a toffee and it is a toffee fudge doughnut so that's what I'm going to do I'm going to steal her tasting notes. The charred element is there in the sense of charcoal. You're also getting soot. There's a jam element to it though as well and a little tarty. I can smell the mince pies yo get at Christmas. It's very complex there's a lot going on. Yeah it's a little damp, damp kind of grime and just funk in general Springbank, Kilkerran, Campbelltown funk. A dunnage warehouse dirtiness, real earthy and that peat that funky funky peat. It is a funky nose. Once you get past the initial sulphur which is it's changed as it went down the bottle but once you get past the initial sulphur it's just it it's just a brilliant nose. So much going on so much depth. Palate: Raspberry jam! Burnt something, burnt meat. Let's say burnt steak, yes it's got that iron element that kind of blood element like a rare steak but with a nice charring outside. It's brilliant in the palate, very meaty and dense. There are fruits and dried fruits with sherry. Oh rubber, burnt rubber or maybe not burnt rubber but if you've got, I think it's an American term, an eraser if you've got a rubber and you're rubbing out pencil or whatever there's that and don't ask me how I know how that tastes, I was a weird child. It sounds absolutely atrocious, why would you want to drink that but it's amazing: the levels of this whisky are just fantastic. Once again the charring, the soot coming through in the palate. It is sweet you've got those burnt elements but there is a real sweetness to this quite sticky sweet. Demerara sugar, brown sugar for sure. Finish: The finish is long. Once again spent matches on the finish. There's more caramelised, toffee a burnt toffee or toffee sauce something like that very sweet in the finish. It's drying on the finish as well, like a sherry dryness. A little bit of nut maybe nutmeg. A wood element is there too and some more soot. Conclusion: Before I get into scoring, comparing this to last year or 2019 version, 2019 version from what I can remember was better it was a lot juicier it wasn't as sulphuric it wasn't as dirty for me, a little bit fresher a little bit juicier. I like the dirtiness to this, this to me feels more raw it doesn't feel as refined as 2019's version, it just feels a little bit more funkier a little bit dirtier but I never had a bottle of 2019 so I couldn't say for sure which one I would choose but 2019 version maybe just edges it. I don't think I would buy a bottle again, although as much as I loved it, these whiskies come out each year and the bourbons are superior for me. Plus, there is no way I would get this anywhere for a reasonable price. I 100% believe that £45 is worth every penny for this whisky and I would even pay as much as £60 for it, anything more is asking too much. Finally, I would recommend trying this whisky as it truly is a tasty dram and one to experience. If you did manage to get £45 what a steal. You've only got to celebrate Springbank, J&A Mitchell's pricing of their whisky. I know this sounds like a fanboy moment but the way they work, how hard they work, majority of the the process they do pretty much everything start to finish and they do it manually the majority of the process is manual obviously there's machines used for certain parts but it's a more traditional way of making spirit and for people not to open their whiskies or people sell them and flip them. It's a little bit of a kick in the goonads but there you go that's life: c'est la vie. This is fantastic whisky if you've got a bottle get it open, get it cracked and enjoy it and share it with your friends. Don't leave it sitting on the shelf and definitely please do not flip it and do not sell it anyhow that's my rant over. YouTube Review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G17JzQqWmgU&ab_channel=WhiskyWhims My Scoring Process: My process is simple. I rate it on three factors: Is it worth it, would I buy it again and would I recommend it? I will the determine if the whisky is a whisky win or a whisky bin. A whisky can have 2/3 of these factors and still be a whisky win. Usually, anything lower than 2/3 is a whisky bin.

Gunpowder, burnt matches, rich dark fruits, chocolate sponge cake, burnt toast, old leather, damp cloth, musty wood, baking spices, cocoa, dried leaves. Water reveals old books and soft smoke. Yeah, this is challenging but great, as long as you don't mind the burnt match/gunpowder type of sulphur. I clearly don't mind it, in fact I rather enjoy it. It's the rotten egg/vegetal sulphur that gets me.

Overall, I also like this new 8-year-old bottling very much. I wouldn't pay more than 80 euros for this.

Excellent dirty tasting Campbeltown sherried malt. This is only the second day of opening and yet it has improved a lot already. Typical Kilkerran nose and taste. Honey and smoke, umami. Can take a bit of water, which tames it and gives more subtlety and depth... Long long finish that has a burnt caramel / Balsamico mix, wow this is growing on me. And later still some watercress!! Yesterday definitely inferior compared to the recent sherried longrow 14, let's see ... ( That really tasted average for a while, now it is glorious...) A few weeks later And I have to say it's growing on me so much that I have upped my rating to 90. Thought I preferred the recent Longrow 14 sherry cask bottling, but this clearly beats it for me now!
The sulphur is not the end of the world, but it also remains baffling to me how these casks make their way into a bottle.
Slightly less than the previous one but still very good.
Nose - Caramel all over, very thick syrup sweet honey like, nice sherry aroma, earthy like peat Taste - There's a complexity of sweetness apart from dark fruit, it's a very nice bloom fighting for a place to land in the mouth unlocking the flavors layer by layer Finish - Medium finish, nice lingering scented floral like , warmness on the throat

If you don't like sulfur as an aroma, you should stay away from it or let the dram stand for half an hour (and maybe even add water). On the palate it is significantly less sulphurous than the nose. Overall a pretty straight forward whisky. I like it better than the fortified whiskys from wet casks.

.5 At the beginning, the sulfur is clearly in the foreground. After 30 minutes (yes, that's a lot of patience with an 8 year old whisky) there is also a very balanced and not overloaded note of spicy sherry. It stays "dirty" all the time and there will be some people who won't enjoy this whisky. I like the good balance, intensity and not overdone sweetness. Water doesn't change much on the nose, hardly any new aromas are added, but none disappear either. |

.5 Slightly finer in the mouth than the nose. I really like the alcohol and the mixture of dry and spicy, only slightly sweet sherry aromas. I still wouldn't call it fruity, but it still offers aromas other than the nose. The mouthfeel is also very solid and has a slightly tannic touch and a pleasant oak note. Water makes it wholesome, mild and much sweeter. The sulfur is then hardly noticeable. I like both and the contrast is exciting. |

Acts like the adolescent version of the Springbank 18yo. Good sherry influence with mineral water-like sulfur and warehouse notes. Poorly integrated alcohol spoils the enjoyment a little, unfortunately.

B: 56.9%, ucf, nc, thick, towny colour. 25 N: charred wood, vanilla ice cream, nuts, white pepper, liquorice, after addition of water berry notes and smoke. 21 P: berries, vanilla, spice, wood, chocolate. 21 F: raisins, vanilla, spice, smoke. 22 Batch #5. Mixed feelings about this one. On the one hand tasty sweet palate and long sweet and smoky finish, on the other hand strong tannin notes on the nose that cover with itself any other smell. Still decent cask strength that needs more time and attention. Reviewed 1.8.2022

Indeed very different from the previous oloroso batch. N : "dirty" is used a lot in other reviews and I think I'd say it too. But on the same side it's lighter than the 57.1% version : less wood, less caramel, less burning log and more vanilla, meaty and cheesy notes. Also lighter on spices, that alcohol is greatly integrated. It has a touch of something else, perhaps swimming pool chlorine. M : ok that's also something else. Meat meets cola ? Coal too. Peppered carambar. Gets spicier with time, oilier too. F : I definitely get a very light cabbage note which I don't dislike. Burnt meat sauce. I hoped for a longer trip there. That's dense and generous, not complex but very consistent. For 60€ what's not to like ? 8/10

Springbank funk and heavily sherried. Some green notes, but masked well with the cask influence. Would buy again.
Expensive whisky. But he is something special. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. You can experiment with water, but this is not necessary. It has a lot of Campbelltown character.
Funky, dirty, balanced dram. The wood doesn't tame distillery character, it's an obvious honorable member of the great Springbank family. Adding water truly reveals the full spectrum of aromas and it's quite a peaty one, very close to a Longrow in my opinion. i really appreciate this one and didn't find this off-sulfury note which is often suggested. I must be very tolerant about sulfur anyway as I only was disturbed by sulfur once from Campeltown area (remember a Cadenhead 15 yo sherry Longrow back in 2014/2015 was really off putting: sulfuric/acidic to the point i couldn't finish a single dram)
A young, one-dimensional whisky with a distinct sulfur note. Match and gunpowder dominate. Behind this, a modern sherry maturation reveals red fruits and peppery spiciness, but lacks depth or balance. A slight bitterness from the oak finish. The Campbeltown funk is only noticeable with a great deal of imagination.
First pour and the nose is very rubbery/sulphured. Needs time but still very evident in the nose and continues on the palate. If you're sulphur sensitive might be one to sample rather than buy a bottle. Quite fruity with leather and tobacco notes. Some smoke and peat. On the palate the initially sweet and fruity then some more rubber, oak, smoke and peat. A sensation close to popping candy with tingles and sensations all over the mouth, palate and tongue. Gains volume in the mouth if quite a bit thinner than the 57.1 release. Finish feels quite short initially but then the palate and sensations linger and leave you wanting more. Only part of the official tasting notes I recognise is sandalwood - certainly an exotic wood on the palate and finish. A pretty dirty profile that some will love??
Sulfur bomb ... my facial features derail!

https://whiskylovingpianist.wordpress.com/2024/08/14/campbeltown-malts-fest-2024-springbank/ C: More ‘heavy heavy’, yet the KK spirit seems to handle those phenols with aplomb. When you’re in the mood, KK can be the missing piece you didn’t know you needed. Will we regret not stocking up on Kilkerran when we all had the chance? There’s far less of it made than there is of Springbank.

A lot has been said about this whisky, and a lot of it negative, which really baffles me. It reminds you just how confusingly subjective certain flavours can be. For me this is a gem with so much individual personality, and like most subjective opinions, it's hard to understand how anyone could think otherwise. But I guess that's the beauty of it all. Getting down to the whisky itself, it's pure Campbeltown funk, it's dirty and lactose, with an oily grease coating a rich forest fruits and chocolate mousse. A healthy dose of mocha on the finish, with an earthy smoke just starting to creep up. Reminds me of some Springbank 12's (from the 2016-2018 70% sherry batches) and a Ben Nevis 10 on steroids.
