This is a great bang for your buck blend. I think I paid £28 for it. I can drink it straight or with water and enjoy both experiences.

Unusual to see a high ABV blend. Delivered as a sample from karloff. I enjoyed this, and with the shop link prices I will say you get good value... both in bang and taste.

Whiskey sinks into the soul from the first glance at the bottle, as well as from the first sip and the first inhalation of its aromas. Apparently, I will regularly take it for myself and my friends. The richest complex taste consisting of floral, caramel, oak, grape, apple, vanilla and many other notes. A long soft and very pleasant aftertaste that fills the entire mouth. It is easy and soft to drink. The spirits do not hit the nose, do not bite the tongue. I took it for a company and almost everyone appreciated it, except for one person. And even those who had not drunk, did not like and did not understand whiskey before, highly appreciated this release and noted its pleasant taste and aroma. I would especially like to note that the bottle is pleasant to touch, a bottle with a sea stylized compass . That moment when even a bottle is a work of art. Combined with the brand history and specifically the series dedicated to Prohibition, as well as the price, this is a definite top recommended for purchase and consumption.

79+ Already in my 4th bottle since this came out, still the biggest bargain I've ever seen (+2 points). Despite not being fit for an hour long exploration, this is a bottle you can always pull out of the drawer and feel comfortable with. [Edit]: might raise the score after figuring out the best water ratio for this one --- already pretty confident about adding water until the low 30s with 12 hours of breathing time in a closed container. Already the biggest bargain on its own, but if this dilution procedure keeps on rewarding, this will be the undisputed value-for-money goat: 19 euros for 1 liter of daily sip bliss.

I brought a sample from the Whiskey Festival 2014, after a good experience with the basic performance of Cutty Sark. And this was even better. The blend is excellent, but the price is even higher, topcoat about 700, -Kč. Which is a little bit more than I wish, but it is also a good tip for my purchase.

A strong blended whisky. At the end a bit short. Warm and pepper stays.

Nice entry-level whiskey. Very nice floral, fruity nose. PLV is excellent.

Non-chill filtered. Coloured. Matured in American oak casks. Mid-size slowly forming primary legs. Mid-size slow secondary legs. Trailing droplets. Good blended whisky: very good value for the price.

Bottle is now empty. Confirm my 85 pts. Especially with a few drops of water, it becomes nice and round and easy to drink. Sure, you can't always discover something new here, but what he should do: D Black pepper on toffee? Yes indeed.

No, it's more like mixing cocktails. I'll try to describe it as "flowery": The whiskey tastes like fresh new make that has been bubbled through a fresh ex-bourbon barrel once it was pressurized. Dominant youth, weirdly overlying vanilla and sweetness. The only plus point is that the 50% vol are barely noticeable. But that was it. "Not for me, thank you".

Cutty Sark Prohibition Edition Category: Blended Scotch Whiskey Producer and bottler: Glen Turner LTD Strength: 50% Volume: 700 ml Bottling date: 07/09/2022 Aging: at least 3 years Barrels: American oak Filtration: no Dye: present Nose. Sour-salty, with powerful ethanol immediately after filling the glass, slightly muted and requiring a long time to open, but interesting, reminiscent of Bunnahabhain 12 YO in a truncated form (it seems like alcohols from this distillery are present in its composition). Salted caramel, sea water, iodine without burning peat, sea buckthorn oil, citrus zest, walnuts, peanut butter, brown raisins, baked fruit (fruit tobacco), dark bitter chocolate, ground black pepper, cloves, vanilla. The taste starts with sour citrus fruits with salty sea water and caramel. Then comes the burn of the spicy ground pepper. Further, the whiskey becomes rather sweet and spicy with a decent amount of fruit, dried fruit, nuts, wood, and vanilla. At the end of the sip, the pepper returns again and the cloves are added. Pleasant, rich taste with medium density. Quite easy to drink, despite the increased strength. The finish for a blended whiskey is good, rich, and slightly below average in length. Vanilla, nuts, citrus zest, dark chocolate, sea salt. Summary. This Cutty Sark is worth every dollar invested in its purchase, excellent price-quality ratio. It is clearly felt that it contains a high content of malt alcohols, plus increased strength, lack of cold filtration and an interesting profile (which, by the way, is not suitable for everyone - clearly not for lovers of light fruity-floral whiskeys in the Speyside style). Yes, it is not as bright as other malt whiskeys, but for 2000 rubles it’s just a gift. Of course, there is no point in specifically hunting for it, but if you get the chance, be sure to buy it and be surprised. Score: 81 out of 100.

The golden color. Fine oiliness.

This blend really surprised me in a positive way. At first, it smelled slightly alcoholic. But that went away after a while in the open glass. In terms of aromas, I have vanilla, caramel and almonds. You can also detect a sherry influence. Sweet and malty. A little pepper is added towards the end. Glenrothes is also said to be involved here, which is something you can certainly guess. This influence is hard to deny. Great whisky, especially for the price. Great daily drinker.

I think this is a whisky you can stock op un when it is discounted. I dare say that this can be enjoyed by seasoned whisky drinkers. This is something that I would gladly accept as a gift too. I will buy a few more bottles when it will be on sale again. I rate this whisky a very very very solid 82 / 100. Great blend, great price for value. I gladly recommend it to anyone who likes whisky. A 50% blend ... is truly not a standard. But this gives him some reserves and he has impressively proved that he can also be seen with water.

1432) Cutty Sark, Prohibition Edition Day 41 of Lockdown - 27th April - Happy Birthday, my girl. N- Been wanting to try this, not a lot of blended are bottled at this strength. Obvious musky wood with sour tinge, then toffee kissing the earth, buttery and mineral-y, rather stiff initially with puffy leather filling up the sphere gradually, like in the 'genuine leather' shops. Sugar crisps and cooked barley developed well. (86/20) P- Pours of sourish dates juice, coffee extract, herb-y and orange peels. Darkly sweet and masculine spiciness that may be a wee hard to please. Quite a lot of sherry comes thru. (84/18) F- Medium long, spicy green tobacco, prickly mouthfeel and spiky. Heavy dollops of oak smokes leaving traces of woody herbaceous, tad oily. (85/19) B/B- 86/20 Credit to the body and balanced. But Wood+Oily+Herbaceous just not my thing. Weighted Rate- 77pt — at The Whisky Bar, Kuala Lumpur.

best bang for your buck

1198-CUTTY SARK PROHOBITION BLENDED SCOTCH WHISKEY 50% ...it started out relatively well, but then it went downhill... And it could have been so beautiful. I'm reluctant to taste it, but as a base for drinks, absolutely. Reduced to 50% ABV gives this distilled product a bit more character, but was it enough? That's a question everyone has to answer for themselves.

on the nose, it's very good. Feels like an old spirit, I doubt if there are some very old spirit was used in this blend. the palate is quite young. finish isn't long. But I like the scent. For this price, the scent is sublime.

find the blend thin, flat, a bit strange Compared to the Cutty Storm, the Prohibition does worse, and even the 50% don't bring anything

In addition to being my favorite daily dram of recent years I think it's one of the best whiskies (not only among blended malts but also among single malts) in terms of value for money (at € 20-25 these days I think it's very difficult to find a better whisky than this...). Excellent both in the nose and in the mouth (lots of vanilla) it also has an excellent texture. Dangerously drinkable despite the high alcohol content. The ending is not long but I forgive it without problems. I've stocked up some.

Golden brown in color, a light oil movement in the glass, thick tears stick well to the glass. beautiful black bottle.

After 10 minutes in the glass, vodka and varnish notes are clearly audible in the aroma and there are more of them. It tastes better, but there is no desire to understand it; you will quickly get drunk before you understand anything. You can drink this whiskey just to get stupidly drunk...

Delicious, strong, tasty, sympathetic, the 50% do it well, bring neat strength and do not burn. I like it a lot, for 25 € a clear buy recommendation.

Appearance: Pale to medium gold. A bit darker than the regular. Nose: Fresh citrus, light smoke, honey, vanilla, caramel, peaches and cream, dried apricots. Touch of strawberry jam. Sea air. Palate: Salty, lightly smoky, lemon and orange, peaches and apricots in cream. Lots of honey and vanilla. Finish: Ginger spice, honey, vanilla, white pepper. With Water: More smoke, more spices, more interesting overall. Overall: I killed this bottle in no time. A lovely dram, so approachable, so delicious. No, not the most complex thing in the world, but a wonderful, fresh fruitiness abounds. Love it. The alcohol punch and the body really take it miles above the regular one.

Rough, slightly smoked, entry-level blend. You can drink, but without much pleasure. Of the interesting - unusual for blended whiskey fortress 50%.

Interesting blend, you get more than expected

Nose: honey and sugary pastry on nose, vanila, and you feel power in a good way, inviting Palate: bit citrus sour, honey, vanila, caramel sugary pastry, malt, hay, for price this is wow

The aroma is dense, herbally fragrant, malty, bitter chocolate, ground coffee, wet cardboard, black pepper, soft vanilla. C Taste: distinctly spicy, malty, spicy, chocolate and ground coffee. The proportion of grain component is significant but not disturbing, bitter, woody tannins, soft vanilla

I found this to be quite tasty, with something that reminds me of meaty Sherry cask dominating the nose along with sweet toffee and some industrial notes.  Very flavorful for the price asked, and the grain whisky component seems to hide in the background.  Kind of reminds me of the time I mixed original Cutty Sark with a bit of A'Bunadh, only with meatier distillates (I want to believe this has some Macallan and Highland Park in it...).  I love the price (about $30), the presentation (50% abv, not chill-filtered), and the fact that the label describes the whisky as "challenging"...  It gives me the impression that they believe in this product.  Good value for money.  *The back of the bottle mentions only the use of American oak, so this fooled me...

Speak Easy The Prohibition – the so-called Noble Experiment – was repealed in 1933. This Cutty Sark was released exactly 80 years after that repeal, in 2013. Cutty Sark was one of the few whisky’s that you could actually enjoy – illicitly of course – in the so-called speak easy clubs. This Cutty Sark is bottled at a higher alcohol strength hand matured completely on American oak. On the nose I get bittersweet oranges, butterscotch and a truckload of heather honey. I cannot escape the feeling that I can still smell the mash. Barely any spices. After a few moments, but butterscotch turns to farmer’s butter and even mashed potatoes. I must say, I am not impressed. The body is fine, the mouth feel is round and almost creamy. It starts of sweet, but immediately a rough and peppery note and a lot of liquorice prop up. The oranges turn very bitter and it has a sour edge that I cannot appreciate. In my opinion, it goes downhill pretty fast. In the finish, which remains mildly spicy, another shot of citrus fruit and caramel manifests itself. Pity, but this Prohibition is really not for me. Too rough. Around 30 EUR.

It reminds me from a distance of Aultmore, and A LOT of Bunnahabhain, especially An Cladach (they're the same 50% ABV, also unfiltered...). Most of the contents of the bottle are young Bunna. I'm not a huge fan of the distillery; I just like their smoked bottles and their 12-year-old. But I quite like this Cutty Sark Bunnahabhain Edition, certainly more than An Cladach. I can barely taste the grain whisky; it literally seems like just another 50% ABV NAS release from the Bunna distillery, one of the good ones. The presentation is spectacular, no doubt, and the price is unbeatable. If you like Bunna whiskies, you have to try this. In any case, it may easily be the best value whisky on the planet. --> After spending two days with this whisky, I recant: it's not Bunna, although it's pretty close. And I confirm it: the best value whisky in the universe. When I finish this bottle, I'll buy another one. - Dominant notes: sherry notes, maritime notes of seawater, sweet and toasted caramel, very ripe fruit, black pepper. The aroma is impressive. Oily, dense. Warm. Old. - Secondary notes: Nuts, dulce de leche, dark chocolate, red berries, malt, apple, oak, tobacco, salt, beach (seaweed?), exotic fruits (papaya?), some leather, alcohol clearly present. It's slightly sweet and salty at the same time. - Pros: The best value whisky in the universe. It looks like a blended malt, not a blended grain. Dare I say it: better than most single malts I've tried. Tons of personality, so you have to like its organoleptic profile. Oily, 50% ABV, unfiltered. Absolutely ridiculously priced. Delicious. One of those whiskeys where the alcohol note is well-integrated. - Cons: If you don't like the unique combination of sherry with maritime notes and toffee, it's not worth it. The strength is medium-low. Relatively simple. It's so cheap that it's a little embarrassing to say you like it a lot. I wish they released it under another brand, not Cutty. It doesn't improve in the glass, it doesn't evolve, most of the malt is young (what?!). It's so good, so cheap, and so strong that a hangover is inevitable. You have to be careful with it. It's not a "serious" whisky; the aftertaste is just okay. Due to its price and its infamous brand, many people will be unable to appreciate this whisky's true value. The bottle, made of completely opaque glass, makes it impossible to see the remaining whisky. For its price this is a banger. Especially if you like sherry casks in your dram. Otherwise with younger whisky/whiskey I prefer Irish over Scotch. But if you want scotch in this price category, this one is really good for its price. And... You can always add a bit of water, if it is too rough for you. With its 50 % ABV the dram can take it.

This is arguably the best bang for your buck in the blend category. Sure it is inexpensive and a bit rough around the edges, but I'd rather have a bottle of this on my shelf than some other blends targeting status rather than flavour. The core aromas are toffe (or caramel if you prefer), lemon, malt, honey and a touch of salinity. It's not complex but it is well crafted in its simplicity.

For €25 this is incredible value. Immediate dark fruity notes, stewed apples, bitter chocolate, raisins, toffee, spices maybe black peppers, cloves. Salty caramel, malted barley sugar. Highly enjoyable, budget malt.

Reasonable price for a good whiskey. Suitable for drinking glass after glass. The alcohol makes it an experience. Pale color - even with dyeing. The bottle is lovely. I understand it's classic for "Prohibition" time - - -

Solid blend for the price. 50% and NCF are nice boozy features, but you won’t forget that it is a young, sharp blend when you drink it. But I’d still take it over some basic 40% single malts that cost almost double.

Cutty Sark Prohibition Ed BSW 50%. 30ml sample on a rainy Monday in Apr 2023. Mid orange gold. Aroma is light, even when given a long time in the glass. Woody vanilla. Old damp wood. Damp twigs. Hint of apple. Body is lightly to moderately oily. Taste is salty up front, an initial impression of Caol Ila is (possibly) reaffirmed on the finish when I realise there’s peated whisky in the flavour profile. It's salty followed by salty followed by salty all the way from the impact, through the mid palate and on to the finish and linger. I enjoy these vibes although it’s quite a simple dram. It’s a little spiky and hot but wears it enjoyably. There’s a suggestion of sulphur and flat, tired oak but neither aspect gets too annoying for me. The grain whisky is nicely integrated. It’s a decent enough blend. Rough around the edges with some flaws and is not going to set the world alight but I like drinking it and at £25 a bottle you could do a lot worse. 3.475/83

The divine aroma of caramel, vanilla and a pinch of citrus. The color is golden. The taste of caramel, toffee candies. But a strong degree immediately burns out the sweetness. The drink is too strong for me. I drank it mostly with Cola.

This *REALLY* surprised me. Heavy, substantial, warming, but most of all, despite the strength, eminently drinkable, not at all boozy or "alcoholic", and well-matured. Caramel, vanilla, sweet almond paste, charred casks, some sherry influence (?). A nice kick mid-palate with cracked black pepper that extends into the finish, before getting drowned out by the sweetness again. I wager this has a pretty high malt whisky content; the Glenrothes components for one are hard to miss. Even in the finish, there's no distinct grainy or bitter note. Amazing value for money!

What a fantastic surprise. This dram has nothing to do with the ordinary Cutty Sark. Pale in color, full of great flavors and a soft peppery finish. 50 ABV is the perfect choice here.

I bought this whisky bottle at 34 dollars, and its probably my favorite blended scotch whisky, its punches 3 levels above its weight. Its 50% abv and there's so few blends in that abv, i wonder why not, if its a good blend don't water it down so much...

Toffee and caramel background, it's the carambar party! With water, it's very fast. On the palate, intense on caramel and chocolate but hyper aqueous structure! A little more spicy pep with water. There are flaws but also a nice intensity and it's the best (less bad?) Cutty Sark I tasted then, I like to see the glass half full! Enthusiasm 3/5

Sweet, intense, spicy blend, with a surprising salty note and noticeable smoke, without being a smoker. I like it surprisingly well.

Blends are back Babyyyyy Ralfy said so, so it must be true. Seriously though, I am definitely one of the malt-heads guilty of sleeping on the many blended bottles out there. To be fair, I had a pretty good reason to. Up until I was about 20 in the late 90s, the only whisky available to me was Bells, Grouse, Teachers and Jack Daniels. They were all terrible and responsible for me thinking I didn’t like whisky. [Note - skip down to the Tl;dr to avoid the waffle] Like many of us, my interest didn't come alive until I was introduced to single malts. My journey back to blends was most likely thanks to “Japanese” whisky and in particular Nikka Whisky From The Barrel, which for years maintained its position as my favourite blend out. From there, I started getting interested in making my own using my collection of malts, with predictably mixed results until I figured out some ground rules. I remember Cutty Sark as one of the first whiskies I ever tried: That yellow label inexorably linked with the memory of a burning tongue and a debilitating coughing fit. I hated it and I’ve never revisited the brand. But now it’s 2022 and I’ve had more than a few stand out blends from the likes of Douglas Laing, Compass Box, TBWC, Single Cask Nation plus a raft of others and my once staunchly held prejudice is a remnant of an embarrassing past. And I’m not the only one who has come around. This iteration of Cutty Sark is seemingly angled towards the more experienced enthusiast, with 50% ABV and a proud declaration of Non Chill Filtration. There's a huge amount of what Ralfy would call “flanel” surrounding the Cutty Sark brand and famed smuggler of booze, Captain William McCoy, but for me the most interesting thing about this whisky (apart from how much I like it) is it’s more recent history since prohibition was abolished. Since the 1930s Robertson & Baxter - an early iteration of Edrington - have been supplying the whisky for Cutty Sark, even though the brand was owned by Berry Bros. & Rudd up until 2010, at which point Edrignton finally (but temporarily) snaffled it off them. Edrington then refreshed the lineup, introducing Cutty Sark Storm in 2012 and this bottle, the Cutty Sark Prohibition in 2013, before selling the brand on to Glen Moray owners La Martiniquaise-Bardinet in 2018 There was an agreement that Edrington would still be the ones blending and bottling during the transition period, but no idea how long that period actually is/was. No solid info on what's in this or the standard bottling, but otherpeople’s blog posts have said that the malt and grain blends are different in each. While still owned by Edrington, I found a post that confidently states the Prohibition is a mix of Glenrothes, Highland Park, The Macallan, Tamdhu, Bunnahabhain and Glengoyne, but I’m treating the claim with a healthy dose of scepticism as even if they were right, it could well have changed by now with the new ownership. Having said that, I recently had an outstanding Edrington Blend and this is not a million miles away… The last bit of trivia is that some of the component liquid is rumoured to be aged in American Sherry Barrels which apparently means Ex-Bourbon Casks that have been “seasoned” with Sherry. I’m not exactly sure what this means, but I’m guessing that sherry was pressure-forced into the first couple layers of the wood Paxarette-style, before the new make was housed in it. With that all now out of the way - How was the whisky? IMO, pretty damn good. Factoring in the price I paid: £23.83, it's god-damn amazing. The nose is all dark brown molasses with salty, caramelly nuts, dried fruit, spiked dairy and sweet, malted grains that (as pointed out in nearly every review- and I agree) leans more towards the malt than the grain. A good, strong opening for sure and one that accurately reflects what’s to come, at that. The palate continued on the dark and malty path, with toasted sugars and fresh brown bread tasking the first shift before exuberant cracked black pepper stepped up and ushered in more dark, but now bitter tones of rich, plain chocolate. At this point, the peppery tickles of the ethanol started to pick up a camphor coolness and the wood-driven nutmeg and cinnamon paved the way for the tail to bring back the maltiness and dried figs, just as more rich, bitter-sweet coffee took over the finish and left humming chilies as remnants of the journey. Tl;dr Not too young, too grainy, or too hot. I’m kind of waiting for the catch…
