Surprised to see some really low rating but of course its all a matter of taste. The whisky is not great but for sure its not bad at all, 1L for around €55 is great deal, I find it tastier than the 12.

Overall I like it very much. It's a multi-layered whisky, but not complicated. Very easy to enjoy.

Looking at the capacity of the bottle, I wonder why it is not standard (0.7 L) in only 1 liter. I conclude that the weaker the whisky, the more it is sold in higher capacity. It may not be bad, but I expected a different quality, a different shelf. Maybe if I did the test blindly, not knowing the vintage rest in the barrel, the note and impressions would be higher. She's missing something. Maybe a longer maturation period, maybe the barrels were not as they should be. I do not know. In my opinion, 12 YO was the better release.

Golden color. The whisky is quite oily in the glass.

Not very complex, but fruity light and easy drinkable

For a 14-year-old malt it is not expressive, there was not enough strength, there was not enough pressure, Loyalty of the Wolf (this is the name of this release) was not felt.

Nose 21, taste 21, finish 20, balance 20

Not coming back for this one…. mediocre

A solid bottling with a pleasingly pleasant and harmonious nose that clearly delivers the high point. Unfortunately, the palate and finish can no longer quite keep up. All in all an uncomplicated dram, which is also a good fit for a social evening between a few beers.

Nice smokey dram - inlike most other recent HPs. Oily in the mouth but dry after swallowing. Should be more ABV but at least no obvious sherry influence.. Not too far away from the Fascadale batch...

06/03/24 - 30 ml - with due thanks to confrere Lucas Ilaci. After the label was revealed, it was disappointing for me, as I expected more from an HP, but it was really interesting to get to know it.

somewhat uninspired

Another bottling from Highland Park from Travel Retail. The whisky matured for 14 years in sherry seasoned barrels made of American oak and ex-bourbon casks. The age is good, the maturation is normal, it is probably not colored, with the strange strength of 42.3% vol. but certainly chill filtered. Why aren't such bottlings, which are not uninteresting in themselves, made with 46% vol. filled into the bottle? Of course there are statements on the box about the relationship between the Vikings and the wolf. Ok, wolves are wild, Vikings are wild – whiskys with 42.3% ABV. are tame. And by the way: Were there wolves in Orkney? Probably not, but they lived in the myths of the settlers who came from Northern Europe to settle in the archipelago. So we leave Highland Park with the story about the wolf, which looks really good on the packaging. On the Scotland ferry you can get a liter in a combo pack for just under €45. The Highland Park 14 is a well-balanced single malt. The aromas complement each other nicely. It's well-rounded and pleasant to drink, with the typical Highland Park character. However, this Highland Park bottling, like many others, unfortunately falls short of its advertised low alcohol content. The 42% ABV simply doesn't allow the beautiful aromas to fully develop. It's a decent single malt, though, and enjoyable to sip.

For comparison I started with a "regular" 12YO, a recent Viking Honour bottling. This is in my opinion quite a bit better. It's not a sophisticated dram to ponder too much upon, but a very nice, enjoyable and care free evening sipper. Thanks to ronnholt for this sample.

N: orange, medium smoke P: orange, salt, medium smoke hint of chocolate F: peat

Alcohol: 42.3% Aroma: Peat, smokyness, rotting wood, oranges, forest honey, roasted tea, wax cakes, pepperiness. The scent is pleasant, relaxed and even relaxing. (86 b) Taste: Quite sparse on the tongue, without a body, somehow empty. The aftertaste is short and uninteresting. This is saved by a mild oiliness. I won't even be a blend, but with a fourteen-year-old single maltka, it's a matter of course. (82 b) Points: 84/100 Summary: Sample imported from WF2021 in Malá Morávka. This bottle will please you with its appearance, it will set you up with its scent, and even those 14 years of maturation have already raised certain expectations, and then a blended taste and aftertaste will come that are not even worth talking about. 42.3% too little, because it tastes like 40%. This is just a big disappointment.

Highland Park's Travel Retail Series was inspired by the various wild animals that were of great importance to the Vikings. Wolves were respected above all for their great will to protect their family and territory. The 14-year-old single malt has received a particularly complex and sweet character through the double cask aging.

Light bodied, nice earthy peat though, easy drinking whisky. Not a bad whisky at all, just light and quite uninteresting in fact. You get a light but nice nose, fruity, light peat, some meaty leathery notes. Final is short. Bought it on duty free… a mistake.

Reminds something of the 12 year old. Smells tasty, tastes disappointing. So I would rather take the 12 year old.

Very nice and quite smooth usual highland park whisky. Would recommend for other as a every day booze

You can drink it without worrying, but that's all. It's a whisky that wasn't fully produced. Everything is very subtle...nothing half-hearted and nothing whole.

I like this Whisky. It is an elegant Dram and in my opinion it is better than the 12y. Nice grassy, ​​malty and fruity aroma with Heather. Well the Distillery character shoes this Highland Park very good. We also have lighty peat and smoke, as I like it. It is a very good all day dram!

Not at all bad. The heather peat and honey continues from the nose to the taste. The extra 2-3 abv gives a fuller experience than the 40% warrier series.

The Pale Wolf 14 Year Old is a sweet and complex single malt whisky. It presents a delicate balance of strikingly contrasting flavors. With a brilliant, light gold color, it has been matured in a combination of American oak sherry butts and bourbon barrels, and is bottled at 42.3% ABV.

Elegant and tasty whisky. Maybe it's little bit simple but aromatic and delicious.

This is really sweet and complex, maybe too sweet for my taste. Summer fruits, a hint of dark chocolade. I especially like long finish and miss some coarse. Could be much better if not filtered and diluted. Lots of potential on this.

In Czechia you get this for the same price of 12y (considering the 0,7l equivalent, of course, coz this one is 1l). Well I totally get what HP wanted me to experience, it's more complex than 12, not that clean notes due to the 2y difference or maybe some wild casks were mixed in as well... Well, Why Not! (T.Shelby)... The sherry note hinting me with just the right amount (guessing Oloroso, and I am not Sherry person at all, I hate PX) It has more of the edgier woody note and underneath the classy HP malt I love. It took me few days to get through but as my friend once said "love is a jurey, not a midnight escort"... anyways I'm at 0.8l now and I prefer this to anything else I have in my shelf. It's complex if I focus on the notes or it can be simple if I just want to chill out after work. Of course people are comparing this to 12y bla and bla, but u should not. It's not a replacement of 12y nor it's better, it's something different and new to the range and it satisfies all the 14y expectations. But just forget what I just said, I am fan of HP so this review is too biased anyway...

sweet, apple, smoke, pepper, smoke, light cherry

coming from the 12 YO i was a little disappointed, expected something different.

- for me personally a somewhat disappointing half board for €60 - I was a bit surprised by the amount of smoke, it was for HP surprisingly smoky - I didn't feel much of sherry, almost exclusively Bourbon flavors present - was ok but he didn't really convince me

Simply knitted, but drinkable ''Highland Park'', which reminds me of the 12 year old from the late 2000s. Doesn't uproot any trees, but is easy to drink and has an interesting component up its sleeve due to its subtly dirty, meaty side.

It's not a "highlight park", just a highland park. Drinkable, but nothing special.

A bit of a variety of tasting notes, could be a bit more intense, but nicely balanced. My own SGP: 643, whereby my P values come from the wort, less from the smoke.

I miss a higher ABV, so pleasant but weak flavors. 83/84.

Deliciously drinkable heather substance, but far too low in alcohol.

Fine whisky for easy drinking. Nothing too complex, taste and smell rather simpler. The taste is certainly more interesting than the smell. Softly woody whisky. What I vaguely remember the old HP 12, so it was certainly more pronounced and something from everything, but certainly more in the smoke and some expressiveness and roughness. This one is more sweet and soft, such an immature HP.

I would call it the better typical Highland Park. A lot more interesting than the 12y.
