В то же время [r4] считает виски «a little flat» с «thin mouthfeel», а [r5] называет его «challenging» и требующим воды.

Fantastic whisky to be honest. The label says it is a double cask. Scottish barley malted with Highland peat. First cask is a chinkapin cask and the second an ex-Oloroso sherry cask. Both are first fills. 59.3% ABV. Colour: Dark Amber Nose: Very perfumery smoke. Wonderful. Golden syrup, Apricots, Honey almonds, sultanas & plums. Agarwood. More fragrant. A bit of sootiness circles around. Palate: Full and mouth coating. Raisins, sultanas, Plums & Figs. Very rich. A bit of sweetness almost like date syrup. Royale. The peat is more elegant, dominant but not edgy. The sherry is not too sweet. Must say this is very good. No point in deducting points because it is young, new, bla bla. Roasted almonds, honeyed oats, mulberry syrup, and a rich maltiness encapsulates. Finish: Dry. Medium with black cardamoms, wood spice and sweet smoke. The whisky is quite viscous, oily & very mouth coating. Well, go with an open mind & this whisky will win your heart. That’s what makes whisky tasting an enjoyable affair. This one is more like an intense HP but more smoky. I could give an 85 as 90 is a benchmark but a new distillery, heart out, and a scintillating marriage of 2 casks, peat, all working harmoniously without any edginess means, it deserves more. Brilliant bottling for Kirsch import.
The strong influence of the cask is noticeable, adding a certain sweetness to the slightly smoky distillate. This sweetness, however, is finely balanced, allowing the spirit to shine through and preventing it from becoming overpowering on the palate. The youthful character of the whisky still shines through, with a touch of tart oak lingering in the mouth and finish. Nevertheless, I find the overall impression of the cask aromas and the smoky character of the young malt pleasing, as nothing feels forced. Beautiful, surprisingly beautiful.
Impressive. This whisky proves that age doesn't matter. From the youth, apart from the strength and the rough edges, there is not much to be felt. The alcohol and smoke are quite present, but both are well integrated. The whisky looks absolutely harmonious, but still anything but boring, fine sweetness, fine, dark fruit notes and a great smoke. Really something to enjoy. Great casks and great cask management. Raasay does a good job. I am positively surprised and even enthusiastic. Really impressive.

the malt is challenging very interesting he needs water If I'm in the mood for "interesting" then he's OK with me, otherwise not
Raasay got off to a good start. The very young single malt is exactly that, even if it can conceal a little with the peat and the sherry cask. But that's totally fine. You can still drink more than well. However, whether a three-year-old malt should cost €85+ is another topic. Comparison of 60% versions - Neat, 55%, 50%, 45%). Rating given to the best of the versions, the one diluted to 50%. Best Raasay whisky I've had so far. PS: Bottle number 0001 ;)

It definitely needs water and oxygen to express itself at its best. The acridity of the peat dominates the red fruit of the Oloroso until some time passes, when the liquid in the glass oxygenates a little and the hints of fruit manage to make their way through the evaporating peat. Deep, dark... darker than its color. Pleasant and curious. Young and experimental. Inviting. |

Less pungent than the smooth version, it rounds out without losing the excellent spiciness typical of Chinkapin. The peat is savoury, the veins are leather and a good vegetal part. It veers towards bitter chocolate. Complex, more than expected given the young age. The Chinkapin-Oloroso marriage is a success. |

Medium-long. The red fruit persists initially, very dark. Then a pleasant peat smoke comes out and remains. Not bad. |
It doesn't hurt that I'm compared to Talisker, as I'm very fond of Talisker. The whisky is really delicious. I don't care how old he is. Is it worth 85 euros? Hard to say. That depends on my income. Currently no. In relation to what is offered, is it worth 85 euros? Yes. Absolutely. If you are willing to invest not only money but also water and time. If you're looking for something quick and easily accessible, you won't find it here. 89/100 points.
It's great what the Raasay Distillery gets out of supposedly young malts in terms of aroma with proper barrel management. As expected, the focus here is of course on the barrels and wood used, but the malt does not seem overwhelmed by sherry and oak. The whole thing combines with the peat smoke and distillery character to form a harmonious whole. Definitely experiment with water! https://www.aboutwhisky.de/tastingnotes/raasay-double-cask-peated/
