Good nose, decent on the palate and finish though a bit simple, light, and woody. Sweet sherry, smoke, little maritime, vanilla, wood, citrus.

Нос 87 Quite good. Maritime smoke, pepper, lime and grapefruit juices. Quite smoky, maritime. Smoked kipper, honey, little wood, little sherry. Good fruitiness and citrus. Slightly nutty.
Вкус 83 Vanilla, honey, smoke, BBQ smoke, only a little maritime with slight kipper. Sweet sherry, cooked oranges, prunes, a bit candied. New wood, some grapefruit but not much. Really becomes a bit modernised here, and too woody, but still nice. A bit light.
Финиш 84 Vanilla, honey, quite simple. Some sweet sherry, smoke, slightly maritime, new wood, a little citrus, pepper. Better composed than the palate I think.

Sampled in a horizontal Bowmore tasting with 12 to 18 (Old and new Sherry Oak series), 25 and a SC. Few more abv would be nice - my favourite across the old range from 12, 15, to 18

Нос 83 More old-style Sherry in the vatting compared to the Sherry Oak Series. Sour cherry and plums. Granola. Better intensity than 12 in the smoke. Touch of citrusy, sticky toffee, dark chocolate. Subtly coastal. Wet malt on malting floor.
Вкус 84 Dark plums, raisins, dried dates, and prunes. Then there's bitter oak restoring the balance. Mouthfeel is slightly thin but decent enough as a daily drink. Iodine and smoke at the background. Hint of lavendar. On the verge of watery but the extra 3% does helped.
Финиш 83 Short-mid. Drying. The dried grapes lingers. Slightly thin.

Нос 86 Saltiness that turns into smoke, sherry and chocolate. Incredible nose.
Вкус 80 Disappointing follow up from the wonderful nose. Sherry is prominent, as is the dried fruits though smoke is absent if not weak.
Финиш 76 Sherry, dry, leather but all around thin mouthfeel.

Aroma: open, immediately a mixture of dried fruit and ash. After standing for a while, even more ash, wood, minerals, drying plaster, sweet and sour dried fruit decoction (apples, pears, dried apricots), exotic juice, smoked prunes, berry-nut sorbet. Very nice old wood, similar to old lacquered furniture. Taste: delicate, oak-tannin, smoked fruits, light smokiness, minerality, salt, chalk, walnuts, berry jam, menthol. Finish: medium length, spicy oak, berries, activated carbon, chalk, some spices and walnuts. Score: 87 Bottom line: A woody, dried fruit, medium phenolic malt from Islay. Comprehensive enough for your 15 years old

april 2021 unfortunately i did not manage to get my hands on some older independet bowmores and had only tasted the standard range, to which this dram also belongs. for me these standard bowmores always taste like cardboard. they are not that bad, but do not excite me either. for the money you spend on this bottle you can get much better stuff i guess. still, very drinkable. i would not say that i am disappointed, but maybe a bit bored by it? i guess if the plan of the evening is to get drunk while having an ok dram this is fine for me.

Вкус 80 nutty sherrines, more cardbox. big lack of deepness can be discovered here.

Primarily earthy root vegetable notes on the nose, as well as dark, dried fruits, dates, woody and spicy, slightly damp tobacco and light smoke. Great fruity-spicy play of aromas, I like it a lot, but it could be smokier. Soft, oily and round in the mouth with slightly sour notes, but mainly fruity and spicy with notes of tobacco. In the finish there is a good splash of dark chocolate, which covers the remaining aromas. Behind it is a faint plume of smoke. Length: 6/10 Great, intense, sherry-heavy malt that is relatively tame for Islay. Overall I like it very much, the coloring and the somewhat low alcohol content only slightly spoil the impression. Rating: B+

Last sample of the Whisky Collection box by 'Drinks By The Dram'. I believe this is my first ever Sherry BA Peated whisky. As I usually like sherry BA, but dislike peat, this should be interesting! This final whisky of the very pleasant box, pours quite a bit darker than most of these. Dark, 'old gold' copper. Scent is surprisingly light on the peated side. More like a whiff of smoke, than a blast of peat. Fairly strong wood presence, notes of vanilla, dry touch (nutty) by the oloroso are mildly present. In the mouth, immediately the density takes a lot of attention. The first aroma's are very strong, rough wood (positive!) . Drying from the sherry. very full flavored. Peat isn't nearly as strong as I thought it'd be. Tad sweet. Awesome. Never expected this to be in the better half of the box, let alone to be amongst my favorites of the set !

S 7 Enjoyable but lack the strength to carry the profile all the way to finish. A nice smoky Islay whisky with a good amount of sherry influence. [78-82] Good buy when I've extra money to spend, most whisky stays within this band. N 26 Sweet peat. Citric tropical fruit (Mango). Think dark chocolate seasoned with sea salt flakes and dried wild berries. Mildly spiced fruitcake. A whiff of medicinal peat from a distance. P 25 Fruity (Peach) & spicy. Moderate, ashy peat. Sherry more prominent on palate. Smoky malt. Tobacco & wood. F 23 Mid, smoky finish. Fruit, warm spices lingering. A touch of bitter peat to end.

Side by side (15 darkest vs 18): 15 is less sweet and darker than 18. 18 has more oak and sweeter bright fruit. But both of them are mild and smooth, boring

Вкус 83 Light body and mild taste, but no heat and smooth. Ya, some salt, little bit of smoke with mild sweetness from sherry influence.

Вкус 82 Smoky, bacony, ashy, citrus, resinous, a bit sticky dark jam but also pepper and a bit spicy or uneven...menthol comes through in the long run...also a bit old school leather
Финиш 82 A little weaker here comes wood, coffee, cocoa and some spices

Great combination of sherry fruit and peat smoke. Would go out in a blind tasting probably of over 43%. One of the bottlings that made me so enthusiastic about whisky.

This is an wonderful whisky from Bowmore. The sherry and peatmore is perfectly infused together and work with each other so well. Rich and velvety texture, maritime flavour, milk chocolate with Sea salt, raisins, sherry, complex, peat smoke, aromatic oakiness.

A subtle smoky note hovers over everything, sometimes stronger sometimes weaker. A very complex whisky that I could smell for hours.

Nose Blood oranges, a little grapefruit, Lipton ice tea peach aroma, gravy, some lovage, bay leaf, subtle lavender, the notorious Bowmore Fizzers, cake batter, the wood shows through hazelnut and cocoa notes. The smoke is typically quartz, slightly ashy, mineral and maritime, (sandy beach) Very nice nose. Unfortunately, the aromas are less present on the tongue than on the nose (a bit flat), although you have to hold the malt too well to find the aromas throughout. In the finish then also significantly more one-dimensional than the nose promises. Oaky with hazelnuts, pine needles and a little tart almond. Conclusion: Solid whisky for less than 50 euros. But Bowmore could certainly get more out of it if it weren't colored, chill-filtered and bottled at 46%.

Нос 85 Very sweet, slightly smoky, red dried fruit soaked in sugar syrup, especially plums, baked fruit in batter, cherries, apples. Light scent of beeswax.
Вкус 85 A lot of sweetness and smoke, the taste follows the aroma, grilled and baked plums, honeydew honey, sweet caramel, toffee and dark chocolate, some almonds and sweetness. Smoke pleasant wet, sweet, fat and thick.
Финиш 83 Medium long, pleasantly warming, at the same time sweet but delicate, tarry, dripping down the esophagus.

I like this whisky. It is a well balanced whisky with a sense of smoke. It is a noticable amount but not much.

After sniffing, you can smell an intense old cupboard, dark honey, warranty jam, a house left by your grandparents, it's not pleasant at all. The taste of the whisky is fruity, floral, typical Bowmore lavender, sweet spices. Overall I like this whisky

Нос 82 An old person's garage - think old boxes, detritus etc.
Вкус 82 Thin in terms of the mouthfeel - the taste has lots of dried fruits, a hint of brine and a slightly bitter burn from the alcohol.
Финиш 81 Medium, although the dried fruits veers towards bitterness after a while.

For the current price of around € 55, you get a very good sherry malt with smoke support. From the nose to the finish, it doesn't fall off. The 43% are pleasant and are completely sufficient for a nice drinking pleasure. In the nose I would have found a similarity to the Benromach 15y. However, in terms of taste, I find the Bowmore stronger on the smoke side and therefore more complex.

Well balanced, good smokiness for beginners given that the peat isn't overwhelming. Unique in that it has spent a longer time than most whiskies in a sherry cask. Shame about the E150 coloring, would love to know what this whisky looks like without this additive. Decent whisky for the price and I recommend it.

Нос 83 What stands out is raisins and woodiness. It is smoky, and slightly bitter yet sweet.

Финиш 80 Chocolaty and bitter on the palate. Not my favorite finish but it certainly isn't bad

The worst bottle I had in years without the shadow of a doubt. It is tasteless. Probably a really bad batch (a lot of people are saying that the quality of bowmore core range is going down hill). It is a shame since I paid about 100 Cad for it. I wont finish it, but I keep it around to show people what a really bad scotch is.

August 28, 2022 78 / 100 Color: Dark amber, tinted with caramel. AROMA - 20.5 / 25 Cherry-vanilla and a touch of leather. It's delicately citrusy, floral, and soapy. The smokiness is more reminiscent of charred barrels than peated malt. A hint of chocolate-dipped cherries at the finish. Overall, bland and lacking in character. TASTE - 20 / 25 Soapy and fruity, varnishy, and delicate. Further, barrel wood and campfire smoke, a bit of toffee, plums, and caramel. Quite oily. FINISH - 18 / 25 Cherry and delicate campfire smoke. Warming and pleasant. BALANCE - 19.5 / 25 From the original Bowmore sample set. It's OK and that's all because it offers very little. I will definitely never buy it because it is not worth the price.

N- A wow, solid sphere of aggressive smoky heats for good starts. Molasses and subtle brine above the glass, with lush of thick heather smokes that with wee honey and zesty cream fruits. Evolved to solvent dried fruits, mineral, rum-ish and muddy peat at the tail. Rebel and aggressive that could be handful, but I like this style. (89/22) P- Creamy, sour fruits with rounded rich oak and nutty smokes. Well body but missing some filler here, an opposite to what derived on nosing. (86/20) F- Medium, subdue. Modern with echoing fruits and liquorice, dry and winery. (85/19) Body/Balance- As saying, win by (just) a nose... 86/20 Weighted Rate:- 81pt — at The Whisky Bar, Kuala Lumpur.

Crushed blackberries, damp wood, forest peat. Caramel, old, heavily waxed leather, black earth rich in humus. A wisp of ash. At first, sherry dominated, then smoke emerged after a while. Very good balance. Woody palate, sap, pear, plum and raisins, a touch of warming spice. Lots of dark chocolate in the finish, and even coffee, quite long actually. Mocha. A bitter note on the retro-nasal. A somewhat fragile and nuanced expression, a welcome change from the usual overpowering wines. ["Another brick in the wall" tasting session - n°18] It's interesting, but maybe not my prefered style. There's something weird in this because there's peat and sherry in the ingredients, yet the end result smells neither like peat, neither totally like consensual sherry either. So, interesting. But I'd take any Laimrig over this anyday.

Нос 86 Actually very cereal-y and not quite that peated. Black bread, knackebröd, and maybe indeed some burning tyre in the background. Fenugreek, maybe a touch of ketchup.

Tasted blind: peated: machine / mechanical, caramel brown (colored?), cloves, sweet and rich aroma, seaweed (sushi-ish), probably Islay, OK but not great. Post reveal: I could've guessed this was Bowmore, the whisky nerds' least favorite Islay distillery (: it's also lowest on my list and this blind tasting of the 15 confirms that.

Beautiful nose with a well-balanced mix of smoke and fruitiness. These aspects continue wonderfully on the palate, with a whole load of berries on the finish. A really good standard. Candidate for repurchase.

Нос 84 Soft smoke rises from the glass into my nose, to a slightly alcoholic note, despite the "only" 43% Vol. In addition to ripe fruits towards oranges and wild berries, but also beautiful earthy notes. The whole thing is rounded off by a piece of pocket coffee.
Вкус 85 On the tongue, the Bowmore shows a nice mix of smoke and honey sweetness. For 43% Vol. Amazingly strong and at the same time well integrated alcohol. The fruit gradually comes through more and goes in the direction of currant jelly. Overall nice and round and just delicious.
Финиш 84 Medium with dark chocolate, soft smoke and lasting honey sweetness.

Very nice nose, very round taste and the sherry can be tasted clearly, medium-long finish. PLV - sometimes under 40 € still available, great.

Has (had) its ups and downs in batch variation and even one bottle can oddly differs profoundly from day to day/month to month as I have not noticed with other malts. Would improve bottled ncf, no color @46% abv.

Apparently i don't like whisky from Bowmore, this one was borderline undrinkable for me. Luckily i was able to give this 80% full bottle to a friend.

The Bowmore 15 Years Sherry Cask Finish kind of took me by surprise. It's flavoursome and outperforms what you would expect on the basis of the 43% alcohol strength.

Price Quality is just fine with this one. Quit an easy drinker for a peat/smoked whisky. The average ABV level and 15 years in the casks, brought up a balanced and enjoyable dram. Some peat and a bit more smoke, smells of bacon, dried fruits and a little old bookshelf. Soft on the palate, sherry sweets on the forground, smoke and spices coming more through. Oily mouthfeel, a little sticky. Medium finish with a little pepper, sherry and some wood in the end. I guess it would have a bit more to offer if the ABV was a little higher, like 46% To me this is a peat/smokey one you can use as a starter for people who'd like to discover peat whisky's

The whole philosophizing about whether the name "Darkest" makes sense, although Bowmore is known to color ... so what ... The whole argument over whether the 15y without the name addition Darkest is now the same or not .... so what ... Here you get in any case - especially at the PLV! - a really great whisky. For me but not quite as good as the 18y.

Ok Bowmore, without the big highlights. Appears as something tame and boring. Probably due to a combination of low ABV and medium quality of the barrels. Have tasted some fantastic sherry whiskys from Bowmore, which this one can not match.

I rather like it, as I usually do these early post-2000s Bowmores, and I find it much better than the 15-y.o. "Darkest". However, the price difference to the 18-year-old is not that high, so I would spring for the latter instead. If they would bottle this with 46 to 48 percent, it might give the comparatively priced Lagavulin 16 a run for its money.

Вкус 87 A bit thin, sure, but very expressive, in equal parts sherry, smoke, and tropical fruit.
Финиш 86 The weak point due to the ridiculously low ABV. The flavors are still nice – now with lots of additional dark chocolate – and the smoke lingers for a good long while, but texture-wise, the finish seems a bit hollow and watery.
