The aftertaste cannot keep up with the smell and taste, and the stimulation is too strong. Personally, I think its defects are relatively obvious.

Strong and light aroma, stimulated by obvious alcohol vapor; At the beginning, campfire peat, hospital disinfectant, phenol and other chemical organic solvents, powerful peat bombs; Smell, smoked ham and bacon, salty seaweed, a small amount of sweet vanilla honey, citrus lime; With a little water, the smoky smell of peat will be more powerful, and at the same time, a small amount of tropical fruits such as pineapple will be brought out. |

Warm and pleasant, long-lasting, balanced flavor, less oily; Compared with the smell, the richness has dropped significantly, leaving only the typical ocean peat smell. |
Well, for sure it isn't a complex whisky. But the point here is on the side of fullness and intensity. The basic Laphroaig 10yo notes, but squared. I love it.

60.1%, but now they are exaggerating. At least that was the first thought. But once the dram was in the glass, crumbled and tasted, the only thing actually was: 60.1%, yes, damn it, just right. Rarely had a 60% whisky in the glass, which was so accessible in the nose and on the tongue. One can only bow and say: Laphroaig, thank you, everything done correctly. And also, after several years, again the sales through the retail trade and not exclusively through your own (not always clean) website - you really have nothing to complain about.

A well-defined Laphroaig nose: phenolic smoke, seaweed, warm tar, a little pepper, marjoram, allspice, sea salt. In addition fresh fruits, vanilla and honey, very mild herbs. Removes licorice. Hansaplast. It doesn't get any more classic. And you still think: 60.1%, but there will probably be nothing in the nose for the time being - puff cake, there is - immediately - a lot. |

Hard to believe, but nothing burns on the tongue here, rather it glides comfortably warm and leaves a clear peaty fragrance brand. Freshly paved road, still steaming. Sun-warmed seaweed, light breeze from the sea with some surf. Just before sunset, a lively pounding peat fire on the beach. Vanilla, honey, toffee, milk chocolate, coffee powder, licorice snails and there, the hospital corridor with Hansaplast and gauze bandages, Dr. C. at station 2, please. |

Medium length and slightly dry. Smoke-driven, of course. But with nice notes of dried apricots, sea salt and seaweed. A little more machine oil and tar, espresso beans and liquorice. |
I am still amazed how a malt with ~ 60% can be so fine and oily on the tongue. The Laphroaig-typical smoke note is clearly present, but not so dominant that the other notes of malt, vanilla, honey and some fruit are lost. At the same time, it tolerates a lot of water, depending on the taste and mood of the connoisseur. Well done, Laphroaig!

IMHO Starting from batch #6 these expressions are getting less complex and focus more on smokiness and bourbon sweetness. Ultimately, this is just a good, strong, sweet and smokey whisky. But older and/or independent bottlings teach us this could be so much more.

Nose: As with b.16, it softens considerably in the presence of a blazing fireplace. Salted and roasted almonds, burnt brown sugar, plenty of sweetness, icing, grilled meat in a sweet marinade, pleasant salty sea smoke, and wet tobacco emerge. Nose - The nose is full, initially with sea shells, plasters and pastries. There’s not a lot of alcohol burn considering the ABV. There’s burnt banana and charred pineapple. Palate - The texture is oily and thick. Upfront is a fruity sweetness leading to a slightly more bitter and coastal smoke towards the back. Full bodied and packed with flavour. Aniseed develops with time. The finish is long and, again, coastal. Reminiscent of the 2018 Talisker 8. This is a fantastic whisky and one of the best 10 Cask Strengths to come out for a few years.
The alcohol is very well integrated, no stinging or burning. The aromas are almost entirely limited to the facets in the smoke, because there is hardly anything behind it. No improvement over time. Here the taste is actually more interesting than the nose. Overall, however, one-dimensional.
Seldom drunk such a great combination of heavy smoke and massive vanilla, great!

Its been a while since I've had Laphroaig and this bottling has everything I've ever enjoyed from the distillery and more. The nose delivers the familiar peat and sea notes, but it is sweeter with fruit and the medcinal edge, softer and more accessible than I remember. The middle is somewhat simpler than what precede and follows, but it is completely delicious. It is still peat driven, but the thick, dark sweetness playing off the medicinal Witch Hazel that comes with it, is a perfect sidekick. I can't believe its 60.1%! I could drink this with a straw. Not single use, of course. The last third brings all the complexity back to the forefront of the experience. It is bewitching, beguiling and extremely moreish. If I could mark this down for anything, it is that I could stand more spice and a little more chew. So -1.
Nose: Earthy, coastal, smoky, malt and copper. Palate: Earthy, coastal, smoky, malty and metallic with some caramel and dried fruit. Finish: Long -> Sweet and smoky coastal.
Another very nice Laphroaig 10 CS version. This batch has a few more sherry expressions, very mouth watering with some smoked fruits way in the back. Concerning price/performance ratio: 9/10

Savage young Laphroaig that hides its oily, phenolic character under an un-characterfully sweet nose. AKA it's the right kind of young Laphroaig.
A wonderful Islay concentrate! Of course, when swallowed quickly, only the smoke dominates, but when it stays in the mouth for a long time, the most diverse aromas are passed through the successive dilution of the whisky by the onset of saliva production, making this malt enormously creamy and at the same time impressively full in the mouth. The only downer in its complexity is the finish, which is a bit of a downer, but otherwise this is a ''Laphroaig'' in top form and makes me pure drinking pleasure.
Lappy CS... rarely disappoints.

Nose: Jumps out of the glass, strong peat and oils. Like sitting in a Scottish bog next to a campfire - there are slightly vegetal notes, damp moss and wood, quite smoky, even a bit of sweet barbecue. It's a bit salty, too, slightly medicinal (the classic 'Band-Aid' note), mildly sweet notes from lemon, and a little bit of straw or grass. As this opens up later, there is a hint of rotting wood, and the barbecue note grows stronger. Palate: So much peat, it can be overwhelming; hot oil, a thick mouthfeel, iodine and lots of medicinal herbs. A very intense experience overall, but once you get past the tingling around the cheeks and tongue, a few more flavor notes creep out: a bit of acidity, some seaweed, more wood astringency than the nose, but still somewhat mild there. The citrus has changed to orange now, and along with spice like pepper and salt, there is ashy smoke and coal, also a bit of barbecue later. Finish: The finish is long, a little bit hot but actually not too bad considering the strength. Some of that wood astringency grows stronger and lingers, peat is there all the time before finally waning, leaving room for yellow and orange citrus, oils and acidity, and more of those coastal notes: salt or sea water and seaweed. This is all finished off with black pepper and maybe the tiniest bit of red fruit. Final Note: Another great entry - if you're a peathead, it's hard to deny the greatness of the experience that comes with a heavily peated cask strength malt, and this bottle is checking all of the boxes. This specific batch came with some heavier seaside and green boggy notes, as opposed to the classic ex-bourbon of Batch 11; both are very good, and a preference between the two may come down to personal tastes. That said, all of these differences are still somewhat subtle - the basic character of the spirit is still coming through as the dominant influence at all times.
Nose: strong and intense peat, sea, salty, seaweed, crustaceans, lots of sugar sweetness, sugar syrup, icing, smoked meat, citrus, leather, vanilla, apricot, spices, wet grass, humidor with cigars. Taste: Thick and oily, a powerful hit of peat, pleasantly burning on the tongue, incredibly marine, seaweed, salt and more salt, vanilla, again a lot of white sugar as in the aroma, cocoa, citrus fruits, limes, grapefruit peel, herbs, menthol, a bit Sherry-like sweetness. Finish: long and lingering, dry, tobacco, salty, salty sea water, seaweed, citrus, burnt caramel, spices, ginger and chili, a bit of cinnamon.

Smoked meat in the raw wind, creamy caramel, vanilla and ash. At the same time, bitterness is constantly present in the taste. I compared it head-to-head with batches 9 and 14, there was no trace of bitterness there.
нос 90 · вкус 82 · финиш 86
Unfortunately, a bit boring release. Lots of vanilla and something sweet. Everything seems to be in place, balanced and high-quality. And the tank worked. And the peat is not very dominant, they give an opportunity to feel other aromas. And with such strength, it is drunk like syrup. But (I'll be nauseous about green grass earlier now) -- it's not fun. Kind of standard. There is nothing strange that was appreciated in the old releases 3, 6 and those with a seal. Where it was clearly dominated by its own, characteristic shade of taste and aroma.
wow this is so stunningly good
I agree with Whisky Genießer's assessment in many respects. However, I find the alcohol to be too dominant, it makes the dram too hot and exhausting. Adding water improves the alcoholic impression, but unfortunately the intensity of the taste is also lost too much. So I'm torn about this batch. [84~87] nice, there is something to discover, purchase incentive only if the price-enjoyment ratio is good :-)

[June, 2020] I did not really like batch 10 of the Laphroaig Cask Strength editions (87 points) but I enjoyed batch 11 very much (91 points) while batch 9 was in-between (89 points). So where will the most recent batch 12 fit in? To check this I do a head-to-head versus batch 10 and batch 11... ...and it is completely different to both batch 10 and 11 but in a great way. They added a significantly higher share of sherry casks to this batch which made both nose and taste more impressive and powerful. It is not as complex and balanced as batch 11 but it is at eye-level in terms of quaffability and enjoyment (again, forget the simple wood-driven batch 10). I suggest to own both batch 11 and 12 and drink them side-by-side (when in the mood for such a setting) - this is a lot of fun and it provides the best what pre-Beam Laphroaig has to offer. Slainte!

The colour of chestnutoloroso sherry is significantly darker than both batch 11 and batch 10 (which are almost the same at burnished, maybe 11 is a notch darker than 10). So obviously there is a higher share of sherry casks in this batch which is promising. The nose is more powerful too with stronger wine-driven aromas beside the peat and wood which strengthen the other flavours too, it seems. Compared to this batch 10 smells rather simple with too much wooden notes while batch 11 is nicely balanced and leaves more space for the malt-driven aromas to enfold. I like both batch 11 and 12 with 11 being more delicate and 12 more powerful. |

The taste is clearly driven by the peat and the sherry on a firm but never dominating wooden backbone. The malt is a junior partner in this setting only but it is detectable, still. To be honest, I like this setting even if it is not perfectly balanced. Instead it is powerful and very impressive - it reminds me of the very first (and best) PX batch but with more power due its higher abv. No, it is not layered but the mix of flavours is delicious as it is. Batch 10 is completely unimpressive compared to that with just bitter peaty and wooden flavours in an unbalanced setting. Batch 11 is more complex and layered with a close-to-perfection harmony of malt, peat, sherry and wood. I like it a little better than batch 12 but both are very different on the palate and in terms of quaffability they are on par (for different reasons). |

This dram arrives powerful on the palate with a creamy and warming texture that covers all of the mouth instantly. There are some hot moments (no wonder at 60.1% abv) but they are not distracting at all. The finish is long and adds more chocolatey notes and impressions of cold bonfire ashes at the sea shore. No bitter or drying moments, all stays tasty and enjoyable. The finish of batch 10 is shorter and adds no new impressions, unfortunately. Batch 11 keeps its nice taste throughout the finish with some additional chocolatey notes (which are not as bold as with batch 12) and spices. I go for another draw of batch 11 and 12 (batch 10 is much weaker, again). Some water turns this dram punchier what happens often with such powerful whiskies while a further reduction smoothes it but it takes away the untamed power too. I like batch 12 best when neat, despite its 60.1% abv. |
The profile with the phenolic smoke and the maritime influences is a classic Laphroaig, which is still drinkable with a trained palate even with the 60% present here.

Very maritime and medicinal, with good sherry influence and sweet citric fruits to create a more balanced profile. Modern in style, but very good. February 2026 I still like it, but I find the sweetness on the palate and finish a bit too simple and caramelised - modern in a sense. Down a point.

86 rating by me is moderately good. This version in my opinion is overly peated, which detracts from the distillate. Therefore, I'm having a difficult time parsing out the taste of the distillate. The peat which is very Laphraoig-like lasts through the finish or aftertaste, which is moderately long, a good thing. This peat aspect seems to be present for the past few years, but more recently, Laphroaig has backed off from the peat.

with water: mmmh, I have a hard time adding water, Laphroaig also lives from its brutality, and the liquor is perfectly integrated in the nose and definitely doesn't need any water. But we'll try anyway ... The vanilla umami sweetness gets stronger in the nose, I don't like that very much here, but the alcohol tip on the tongue is gone. It's hard to say whether he likes it better with or without water. In the end I would rather enjoy it without water Conclusion: Again a real board that Laphroaig delivers here. The price has risen again, so the PLV is still okay, but it's slowly getting borderline. It's great that this time sales went through the trade and that the local dealers were also able to earn something. That's why I'm happy to go along with the price increase this year.

Maybe my expectations were too high, but this whisky disappointed me a bit. Of course, this does not mean that it is a bad whisky, it's just that it is not harmonious to my taste. This is not yet a review; The bottle hasn't been opened yet because I want to try it with my cousin. But first, a few thoughts about the new advertising slogan on the box and label, which I noticed for the first time: "One of the most richly flavored of all Scotch whiskies". Is it time now? Is this withdrawal in marketing preventive, voluntary, or was Beam Suntory/Laphroaig sued by evil competitors? Hopefully this isn't a dead giveaway when it comes to future quality! However, it sounds pretty random; You can actually save yourself such a weak saying. Whatever - I for one would prefer to have "The most richly flavored of all Scotch whiskys" in my glass in the future. Update June 2022 after enjoying a whole bottle over several months: I have nothing to add to the reviews (in alphabetical order) from Archer, Chesterfield, didi1893, hs305 and Edge Mechanic. I gradually ordered a few more bottles from the Distillery Shop because I still want to have this strong enjoyment in 10 years. Also, as I now know, this batch is the last one without caramel!

Color: Light Amber Nose: Laphroaig! If you're buying this, there's a decent chance you're doing so in order to get a quintessential Laphroaig experience, and the first nosing augurs wells. Because immediately, one cannot help but think "medicinal." That's the salient quality I'm looking for with this dram, and I'm getting it in spades immediately: iodine and really strong, unflavored liquid doses of medicine. Right there with it, though, is salt. Specifically, it's salty sea air. If you're feeling metaphoric, let's say there's some grilled oysters with a touch of lemon seasoning, as well. So it's got a little bit of the coastal character, but always integrated with that stronger, darker side that differentiates this from, say, Caol Ila. Finally, there's a trace of vanilla coming through, well integrated into the whole. That last bit was hinted at by the color, because a 10-yo, bourbon-matured Laphroaig with this color clearly has some decently active casks at work. Water mutes a bit of the harshness, which in this case is sort of the point, but it does bring out a nice powdered sugar note. Taste: Good times continue on the arrival. As others have mentioned, this really doesn't come in hot, especially for a 60% ABV whisky. Really impressive to be able to pleasantly sip this neat, and it adds to the appeal of getting a rocket-fuel, young, mostly-unwooded Laphroaig. Like the nose, you're getting big peat on the palate, too: this time ash is playing more of a part than it did on the nose, but the medicinal element remains strong. Brutal but also clearly well-matured. By the way, I don't get a ton of development by adding water here--worth checking it out on the nose, but I prefer it neat on the palate. Finish: The tastiest ashtray you've ever licked followed by a lemon squeeze. Comments: It's hard for me not to think of whiskies in archetypes, and perhaps the first one to spring to mind is the unadulterated peat monster. Now, of course, there are better peated whiskies out there than this, and many have more to say, especially on the palate. However, this bad boy scores huge marks for me as a exercise in style, because it nails that uncompromising, search-and-destroy profile that I sometimes seek. Even among its South Shore brethren, I think this example of Laphroaig is exceptional qua "Peat Monster." I consider this a worthy addition to just about any collection, because there's not really anything else I can think of that's widely and consistently available that delivers these results.
Doesn't exactly come across as a Laphroaig right away, but it's really good.

For me exactly between 88 and 89 points - like almost all Laphroaig 10 CS and yet each time with its own aroma. Always a bank, whether for 50, 70 or 90 euros. 60 percent and 10-year-old whiskys - exactly my case, ; no actually not. An exception are the Laphroaig 10 CS (and the 12 CS from Springbank). They always offer great quality at a great price and differ from batch to batch despite the constant quality. This batch is much woodier compared to the 11 batch (my favorite batch from the 10 CS series) and maybe one or two more PX-matured barrels were poured into this batch compared to the filigree 11 batch. Tolerates a lot of water and you should definitely play with water to fully appreciate the whisky. The 60 percent offer more than enough scope for this. You can also dilute it down to 40 percent and experiment a bit. At less than 100 euros, it is still affordable and exciting enough.

The nose is dominated by woody oak, lots of iodine and the Laphroaig-typical phenol smoke. The smoky note is present everywhere, but doesn't cover everything. An Ardbeg is often just sweet and smoky, but here I find not only the iodine and the oak but also a light sherry sweetness, the vanilla from the charred bourbon casks, dry tobacco, mushy background and dried banana. The 60 percent are extremely well integrated and not spritsy at all. That's the advantage of such intense whiskys. Significantly more fruity with water and the oak is no longer as present. |

88.5 On the palate, too, the 60 percent pushes less harshly than feared, but of course it's not a mild treat either. Again lots of dry, tart wood aromas, white pepper, iodized salt and medicinal peat. The sweetness is rather subtle and in the background. There isn't that much of the bourbon casks left because the aromas mentioned are very dominant. With three drops of water to 2cl, it becomes much smoother and rounder. The sweetness of the bourbon casks is now much more effective. I like it pure on the nose and on the palate with a little water. |

In the nose, the smoke is by far not as smoky-peaty (iodine, hospital, garbage) present as with other Laphroaig bottlings I know (QC, 10er Standard, Lore, Brodir ...). Sea air, spray, salty, I can see myself standing on cliffs and breathing deeply. Sweet vanilla, caramel, I recognize my cherry. Despite the 60.1% no alcoholic marks, great. Powerful, smoky after a campfire, the cherry is there again for a short time, salty-spicy-sweet (salted honey peanuts). Laaang finish! Sometimes I wonder why spend more on a whisky. 2 FL Laphroaig 10Y CS + Lagavulin DE per year and is good. A really tasty part of whisky. I didn't think it was possible for myself to enjoy a Laphroaig with over 60% pure without water, but this works without any problems. When complaining, then a little bit more fruity notes and it would be really perfect for me.
This is what I was hoping for when I bought a bottle of batch #009 based on its reviews here, which promised a loud and proud bourbon Laphroaig that would satisfy everyone. Batch #009 sadly didn't do it for me, but this batch #012 certainly does. It's unashamed and bold, large and loud, simple, yet rich. Some of the complexity and stranger notes of early 2000s CS bottlings have been lost somewhere along the way, but that is more of an observation than a complaint. Bang, bang, bang for your buck, certainly. [edit 23.06.22] Drinking my last sample I can't say I'm going crazy about this. A nice punchy dram but it's not worth a penny above its original retail price..

Wonderfully typical Laphi with everything that goes with it, plus a particularly intense sweetness and more oak aromas than you are used to from the Cask Strengh range. My recommendation is to reduce 2cl of this whisky with a teaspoon of water to about 52% alcohol by volume. Significantly more aromas come to the fore, such as even more sweetness with beautiful caramel notes, as well as fruity citrus notes, perhaps even hints of orange peel, come to the fore behind the medicinal laphira smell. In any case, a very complex nose that changes constantly over time and invites you to play with water. |

Super, super, super awesome, I can only say! Absolute explosion of flavors in the mouth as I have seldom experienced it! The so-called "Chillicatch" of a Talisker 10 years old is a "kindergarten" in comparison! A wonderful tingling sensation on the tongue, nice heavy sweetness, very oily mouthfeel, a really extremely charged Laphi! I think of the Laphi 27 years old, which I was allowed to try at the first whisky fair in Constance. But guys, let's be honest ..... 500Euro ??? Since I get myself quite clearly, much much better 5 times such a Laphi 10 years Cask Strengt! I have a lot more of it! I would buy 3 times the 2020 and 2 times the 2019, I heard it should also be awesome. |

Nice long finish for a whisky that is only 10 years old. You can also enjoy this Laphi wonderfully pure, provided you have calibrated your tongue accordingly. My recommendation for a smoky whisky evening, that's exactly how I tried it recently: The evening starts with a Lagavulin 16, then with a wonderful Port Charlotte 10 years (fresh and fruity), then finally comes the Laphi 10 year Cask Strengh, initially diluted to 52 vol.% as described above and for the finale as a final firework, so to speak, again the Laphi with full force in Cask Strengh Power undiluted with 60.1 vol.%! I think that you have come very close to the heaven of absolute whisky indulgence. |

An excellent offering from Laphroaig, with all those classic flavours in a well-integrated profile at a very fair price range. There are many flavours to discover, so allow plenty of time in the glass, as more flavours emerge the longer you leave it. There are plenty of bottles still hanging around, get them while you still can...

When nosed neat, the classic peaty aromas dominate. The peat has the quality of the dying embers of a wood fire, some engine oil, and medicinal sticking plasters. Some brown sugar lingers in the background. With some water and some time, sweeter flavours emerge; royal icing, Christmas cake, freshly baked brown bread. |

When tried neat, the strong peaty flavours dominate, with an ashy flavour that is sweeter than on the nose. Other sweet flavours are evident, such as liquorice, treacle and hard candies, alongside some more savoury, herby flavours: mint, parsley etc. Adding water perhaps enhances some more of the herbaceous profile, as well as opening up a slight maritime note. |

A medium-long finish which is smooth without a hint of imbalance or bitterness. There is some heat of course, but not as much as the ABV would have you think. Lingering flavours of smoked bacon, cigar smoke, vanilla fudge and caramel persist. The dram works well neat or with a splash of water. |

Blind tasted on 02-26-2022. 88-90 peat monster!
Wonderfully full nose, smoke and fruitiness, charred log. Applesauce burnt in the mouth, hmmm delicious! The finish slightly earthy, also here burnt fruit. Fiery, racy, great!

Rather closed at the beginning. Rubber, bandage, burnt tire caramel and vegetal peat (soap, of course!). Baked almond and marzipan, as well as burnt wood. There was also a strong signature of the bubbling tar for which was annoying to me. There was, unfortunately, only a fragile trace of peach here. |

Almost too smoky for my taste - but also resin, soot, smoking green branches, fatty cream, bourbon barrel. Batch 16 wins for me

Had an H2H lineup of various Laphroaig cask strength releases from old to modern. This batch is a lot more “industrial” than the previous batches, taken a very different direction albeit keeping Laphroaig in the core of it. I enjoy the previous batches more, but this flavour profile is very welcome too.

First thing comes to mind, oh they’ve boosted up the strength and perhaps younger average age in the vat. The nose is mildly prickling, as compared to the clean and comfortable nose in previous releases. New leather. Tar. New rubber. Cold copper. Vanilla custard. The yellow fruits come through in an oily tone. Salted olives. Burnt autumn leaves. Cold coastal smoke. With drops of water, the vanilla becomes a bit artificial and the main tone is now medicinal smoked citrus. |

Very oily and spicy landing. There’s some sweet fruits and citrus at the back. But dominated by the peppery and chilli oak, alongside the fierce bonfire. Luckily, it mellows down quickly just like the old batches. Oak char. Toasted kelp. More vanilla and grilled ham. Honey. A bit more flowers and smoke at the back. Very satisfying. Few drops of water is enough to make this extremely comfortable on the tongue. Milk chocolate. Smoked liquorice. And juicy yellow fruits. |

1990’s Laphroaig was what first got me into whisky. These days the standard 40% 10 yr old has diminished hugely in quality and is a total disappointment. This 10 yr old cask strength restores my faith though: beautiful complexity, some wonderful green herbal notes and great mouthfeel…. Loved it!

Another solid laphi with a lot of power. You can feel a pleasant sweetness on the nose, paired with campfire smoke. The start in the mouth is strong and sweet as usual and over time a variety of spices are added. The finish is only a little over medium-long, but the current 10-year barrel strength remains in the mouth for a long time. Simply great, even if the price has almost doubled in the past four years. What the hell ... Slainte

sweet approach with pleasant power and typical lapin notes and pleasant warmth on the palate, with the addition of spices over time - cadermom, subtle ginger, white pepper and others; despite the strong volume percentages very pleasant to drink - a light caramel-cream note develops in the end, quite a well-rounded affair |

Close to perfection to me that's what you want from Laphi.. Nose: Smoke medical and also some bonfire smoke imo, iodine/ hospital smell, Limoncello, sweetness (Honey,Vanilla) some herbs mixed together ( Thyme, rosemary) camomile tea. Taste: Great Oiliness :) Smoke first then Limoncello again, Kiwi, salty/sea, iodine, less sweetness than expected from nose still some honey, vanilla..very herbal later in the mouth Thymian, Mint, slight milk coffee notes, a bit citral...oak ,smoke, hospital taste last quite long in the end..In your face hate it or love it - I love it :) /

It is of medium viscosity and its bouquet is of relatively strong intensity. I have aromas of peat, cowshed, honey sweetness, vanilla, salt, malty sweetness and pipe tobacco. Moderately complex. A good balance between sweetness and dryness in terms of taste. The alcohol is relatively well integrated and it has a heavy body.

Did a head to head of this and last years Laphroaig 10 CS. This year is less sweet, less warm, less mantlepiece and soft recliner. Its more seaswell and stony shore, more rocky hilltop, but the sun is still out and the vegetation is lush. Punch to the face rather than a warm hug. Swims well and gets rounder with water, but really does well without as the alcohol is very well integrated.

June 2020. I haven't actually had many drams of Laphroaig 10 YO CS of various batches. The 012 is my truly first one. So what do we have here... Very well hidden alcohol for a 60% alc. volume! It's a big hit for me and I love it deeply.

Quite a prominent note of alcohol right off the bat. However after 10 minutes in the glass malt is mellowing. What have we got here... Tar, road tar and coal tar. Strong smoke. Deep down in the background some sweetness - mainly cough syrup and vanilla mix. Surprisingly quite a big mark of casks - these are rather first fill than second fill ex-bourbon casks and they are a good quality casks. I cannot detect even a trace of sherry. |

Finish is super long. Lingering smokiness through and through. Quite a lot of umami is what is left in my mouth - so called savory taste. Also quite salty. A bit like salted peanuts. Also this sweet vanilla/cough syrup mixture stays put. Lovely stuff! |
Powerfully aromatic and very pleasant nose, but a little one-dimensional. Peat is very potent on wood fire and charcoal. The dilution brings a hint of pepper. The attack is clearly liquorice, a note that lingers until the end. Vegetable bitters (roots) explode at the end of the mouth, really marked (and even more after dilution). Very long finish in which we find the smoke of a wood fire just extinguished. A little sweet touch runs through the whole experience. Typical and very well done but not very complex, very good integration of alcohol, a good batch.

To me, the Laphroaig 10 cask strenght bottling offers each year the best price quality ratio on the market with a combination of strenght and balance unmatched at this price. The epitome of heavily peated malt! Now for this one, while retaining all the classic Laphroaig sweetness and smoke, this edition is leaning more towards dry and salty maratime notes than previous batches but again perfectly executed at +60%...

Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength Batch 12. Bought a bottle of this immediately upon release without even a moment's hesitation, on the back of the outstanding Batch 11. Aroma has lots of toffee, peanut brittle, clove, slightly medicinal, some raspberry, oaky, vanilla, mousy oak. Taste is punchy... oily... toffee vanilla, medicinal smoky - nice punchy smoke - rounded vanilla, toffee, oaky. Great balance of flavours. Rich and intense. Very good - not as good as Batch 11 but then that might have been the best whisky I've ever had, so it's not exactly a fair comparison! This is also outstanding, but less so. 3.9/93
Wow... smoke and smoke. It's hearty and very enjoyable. I had salmon for dinner today and the Laphroaigh CS was a great digestif. It was too strong for me without water, but it tolerates water and I definitely like it.
